  1. @Caedrus - I think the buyback is a nice idea at 50SS if it can be accomplished over more than one month. So say if your target was 15 SS but you only managed 10 the last month you could count that and put in 20 SS the following 2 months to win your place back. Also, might want to adjust the points value of terrain as a reasonably sized stand of trees can easily be 50 SS. Or, on the other hand you could leave it so terrain can be the default atonement pledge. Making terrain is basically a public service after all.
  2. Alright, better sign myself up again. Think I'd best go for just the minion pledge as it's still uncertain whether i completed this year's challenge! Thanks @Caedrus for carrying on with the challenge for another year. I've been painting minis on-and off for going on ten years, or 20 if you count those first few metal dark elves which were about the most 90's thing ever in retrospect. I've gotten a bit more serious in the last year or so and made some decent improvement thanks to a lot of helpful online resources (this group included obv). I'm not actually playing Malifaux at the moment so I'll probably just tip away at a model a month from my massive backlog of second hand metal models I thought were irresistible back in the mists of time. Looking forward to another year in the competition. It was a great source of inspiration and motivation this year and always good to see people sharing ideas and feedback on their work.
  3. Probably shouldn't up my pledge with my building only half complete, but since it's December I just couldn't help from starting on this.
  4. Quick update. Was having a nightmare of a time trying to get even coats on this thing as the MDF has a seemingly unquenchable thirst for paint. The airbrush worked, but with it already assembled there was no way to avoid overspray without a whole load of masking. So I did the only sensible thing a terrain builder can do in this situation and gunged the living bejaysus out of it. Really enjoying this now as a project to work on weathering.
  5. It'll definitely work for wood grain. I got this finish just by washing the recesses and dragging a few colours along with the rough side of a sponge. The sludge in the corners will be matte coated later. That's a flat MDF piece with no detail at all other than the lines between the boards.
  6. @Purple Mist cheers. I tried to use sponge stippling to add a kind of sandstone texture, but I'm not sure it really came out. The rightmost piece is actually a resin scenic I got randomly off wish. Scale and looks-wise it's spot on for malifaux, but the quality is pretty poor.
  7. My pledge for the month is this semi-painted house. Had it hanging around for ages and figured its time to get serious.
  8. A few terrain bits from me this month. They're about a 50mm base size each but I'll claim it as 10SS as it's all very quick and dirty.
  9. I did this dude for 11 SS. If anyone who voted for it reads this, thanks a million!
  10. This, truly is what it's all about. Also, wouldn't say the yellow is done badly. Might be a bit of an odd fashion choice from Samael, but he can do what he likes. Lighting and texture-wise it's perfectly in line with the rest of the cloth. They certainly do when you paint them my friend!
  11. I'd be more than happy with them. They look fricking class. Also love the 'Phenomenal Cosmic Power' feel to the big dude. 😀
  12. I really love the colour scheme, and the paintjob as a whole. Think what throws the eye off initially is the amount of turquoise on the base. Kind of draws your attention down from the rider rather than up towards him. Took me a while to notice from the photos but that face is phenomenal. Also really like the touches of turquoise on the horse's legs and the bottom of the tail .
  13. I do wet blending with my metallics. Also add in nonmetallic paints for more colours change colours and do the standard layering type thing. Weathering/chipping can also be a great approach and blood-spatter is eternally popular around these parts. 😀
  14. Oh, now I get it. So when I posted I had literally just spray primed my war cry terrain. As in, I was at my computer waiting for the paint to dry and thought it was funny coincidence to see you working on the same pieces. I wasn't making any kind of comment about your approach to the models or how close to finished they were. And for the record, here are mine; looking an absolute shambles with no further progress these past two weeks. 😀
  15. Love how you amped up the glow on along the edge highlight of the wood where the lighter colour would show it more. Really makes the effect in my opinion.
  16. So, I will be doing a Malifaux' model for Rotten Harvest and the challenge this month. Can't give away much because of the competition but I do have a new appreciation for the horror and beauty that is the dremel applied to hobbying. 😀
  17. I'll be doing... a thing for rotten harvest. No idea what, will root through some boxes on Sunday and then not tell anyone about it. Unless of course it ends up being something non-Wyrd as then I'll have to pledge something else too.
  18. Jaysus, nearly forgot me bleeding entry. Here in glorious tricolour fashion is Mr. Som'er teeth Jones. Ended up quite the rush-job I have my first IRL painting contest this weekend but I tried out a lot of new stuff (some of it vaguely successfully) and think I got a lot from the process. So @Caedrus that's 15ss for me I believe. Too much awesome in this thread to comment on as I haven't been keeping up and people really seem to be pulling ay the stops as the year rolls on. Do want to give quick shout out to @Boomstick for that Chompy (and crew). You seized a great painting opportunity from a model that inspired nothing in me previously. From now on I will always look at that pose and think "The arms are splayed out specifically to capture an internal glow", but that's all you! Really creative painting.
  19. @Wintergloom Green looks better but is probably too eye-catching without adding some to the model.
  20. I've no problem with a contest, but it sounds annoying to organise and kind of highjacks the challenge at the 11th (well, I suppose 10th) hour. If you wanted something similar you could start 3 threads with fun plays on the official contest names for people to drop submission in to duke it out for the most lavish praise.
