  1. It didnt hold up at release, and just comes across as a goofy grinning tadpole. I fear our only hope is a nightmare version or a sweet avatar sculpt, as I doint see them blowing the necessary money to re-do a plastic sprue at this time.
  2. In general, plastic. Hopefully Wyrd has gotten away from the sadistic model construction of some of their initial plastics, like the stupid 10 thunder archers, or insane designs like making Burt Jebson's *head* 3 pieces. I don't have any of the new ones aside from Tara (who wasn't bad at all). Wyrd has also run into quality control issues with their plastics, partly from using digital renders over real sculpts. The new sisters box is out of scale because no one paid attention, but its never going to be fixed because the molds are too expensive. The depleted are too small and soft in detail compared to the metal sculpts. Wyrd, IMO, still hasn't proven themselves entirely in the plastics department, but in general seem to be getting better. Plastic pricing leaves much to be desired if they aren't going to be selling many (and high prices drive even more buyers away). Overpriced pieces like Fuhatsu or limited editions would be better served in resin or metal, than always sticking with plastics and gouging the consumer. Its not always the best or most practical choice, because sometimes the molds are too expensive to justify the medium.
  3. There's still time to change it. Its not like the new card is printed.
  4. Hey, if we're reprinting cards, can we drop Silurids to 6 points so they're actually worthwhile? I thought Justin said they were getting a boost or change at some point.
  5. This felt like a kneejerk reaction to me. Hitting the healing and limiting where it applies? You're better off just saving yourself an extra stone for damage prevention or whatever. It was rare to see defensive utility actually be worthwhile over just packing more offense.
  6. You don't buy multiples of most figures/boxes, so the argument is mostly BS in a unique character driven game. How many Misaki boxed sets are someone going to buy? And those will surely have more parts and models than Fuhatsu... And even on non rare units people arent buying a ton of each set. Do you think a lot of Lynch players are buying 4 beckoners? Its just a bloated price tag. If this is what they're going to start charging for models, maybe they should look to resin/metal for figures they don't plan on selling a lot of, since plastic molds are really expensive and you need to move a lot of units to have them pay off.
  7. This is the real head scratcher. I don't get why existing masters are being updated before we can even play some. I still think Fuhatsu is overpriced, no matter how fancy the three dudes are, they aren't equal crew of 6 also fancy figs. If this is what its going to cost from now on, swap to resin for some pieces you don't expect to sell a lot of.
  8. Fuhatsu aside, I think the prices are quite fair/reasonable. I think those of us who balk at his price tag would balk at release as well. I cant wait to snag some new Nephilim, and I already own 3 matures.
  9. It might be. It still doesn't make the argument that they need to charge as much for him as an entire other master crew less suspect when the other crew has more parts, models and is also effectively rare 1. Misaki's box set is $35 for 6 models for comparison.
  10. Perdita is riding a DRAGON. Fuhatsu is one slightly larger guy. I can buy a Dark Debts boxed set for 40, and that's 5 guys with extra parts. Heck, the mini darkness on the illuminated and the skeleton w Jacob are basically extra figures themselves. And its also effectively rare 1, unless we're getting the ability to double down on masters... When your pricing is more than a resin botique mini company, somethings wrong. I can get this guy cheaper...
  11. That looks pretty cool. Nice improvement IMO
  12. Wyrd's initial plastics were designed by people who hate their customers. Its the only reasonable explanation for the archers and why Burt Jebson's head is 3 pieces... Are the new ones as annoying to put together?
  13. YES. I only hope they redo Lynch and the others at some point in a larger scale. I'm not a fan of truescale, it just looks like tiny junk on anything other than a monitor.
  14. Not really. Happens with every exclusive (Gen Con, SDCC, etc). Its also a valuable service for those not offered online.

    Lynch 2.0

Only if you believe Fetid that an entire crew somehow couldnt kill a 6 wound, 3 defense model. Its a familiar song and dance...
  16. I do not think that word means what you think it means. Everyone has feet, and there's nary a gigantic shoulderpad to be found. I can count the number of pouches on any individual character. I generally prefer the new art. It looks serious, rather than cartoonish. Lillith still sucks, but that's because the art concept of Lillith sucks at its core. A vengeful nature spirit and mother figure who looks and dresses like a Jessica Rabbit hooker, and doubtless sounds like Mae West. I dont get why they removed gremlins noses though. Just to maek sure you had to rebuy your units for cohesion?
  17. Two. But they have to be pretty small to fit inside.
  18. Are you outside the US? Miniature Market offers free shipping on orders over $100. Their international shipping isnt terrible from what I understand, and they offer a 20% discount. I frankly dont understand the need to pay extra when ordering online.
  19. My camera isnt all that great, but I'll see what I can do when I get home. They didnt smell funny, or look goopy or anything, the detail just was really lacking. I dont think my trees are aberrant from what I can see... like the rocks are just smooth blobs with no cracks or texture, but this matches other pics I've now seen. I actually don't have anything against plastics, and recognize that the lighter weight allows some additional freedom when designing sculpts. I'm thinking the main issue might be the digital sculpting. For instance on the rocks, a green in hand would reveal that, yeah, you need to texture up that blank smooth space, but it might not come off as needed in the digital model. The sculpting process in itself leaves physical artifacts, which make it feel more organic. Which is why I compared it to early CGI, which often lacked good weight and physics.
  20. Thanks for the reply. By any chance did you get the tree/depleted? I'm wondering if its just those sets sculpts I got that are weak. Though I have to say the flesh/muscles on Willie looks bad CGI/cartoony/waxy from the render. :/
  21. I'd like to offer up a contrasting opinion to Mythic Fox and IAmWyrd's reviews on the new plastics and digital sculpting. while this is my first post, I have purchased Malifaux minis for about two years now, and have to say I'm thoroughly disappointed by the drop in quality. I purchased the Hanging Trees and Depleted boxes (and Miss Terious), hoping that the detail would be better than the renders. Unfortunately I think they turned out a bit worse. I opened up the Depleted box set first, and was immediately reminded of bad 90's CGI. The tentacles are extremely smooth, with little to no detail on them, lending the figures themselves to look almost waxy or cartoonish. There are wrinkles and details on the body, but they are so fine I cant imagine painting these with anything other than a few layers of glaze to avoid obliterating the details that do exist. all in all the figures look unreal (and not in a good, otherworldly sense). If it were just the tentacles, I could say it was stylistic, to make them of a seamless, wrinkle free protoplasm, but the cloth doesn't really seem to obey the laws of physics either. The tattered pants leg on the standing model is particularly egregious, as its hanging perfectly flat and still. I primed them with a thin layer of Vallejo surface primer, and ran some washes over them, hoping to draw out more detail. Nada. What you see is what you get. Or don't get in this case. The second box I opened was the nightmare tree. I was hoping the issues with the depleted were perhaps just with that model, or maybe even stylistic choices. No such luck. The overly smooth appearance and lack of texture or detail was just as noticeable, if not more, on the trees and rocks. The hanged Nathan and Eric were equally low in detail, such that the hair on them just appeared to be a flat helmet or skullcap. And for 80 bucks. Sure its a LE, but normally when you charge boutique mini prices, you at least try for boutique mini quality. These don't even compare favorably to the Games Workshop wood, which is available for about a third of the cost. I'd bought these to complement my existing Neverborn crew, but looking over the beautiful detail on Bad Juju (who would be reduced to smooth blobs and a few sticks in this technique), the fleshy wrinkles of the silurids, or the stitched together... these look like they were made by a different company. I didn't even bother opening Miss Terious. I figured I may as well try and sell it MIB on Ebay to recoup some of my money on this failed venture. While the plastic is a bit easier to assemble than some of the Wyrd minis I've worked with in the past, who cares if the end result is a sub par mini? The material is fair, but I would almost prefer it to be more rubbery in parts, particularly on those long, thin, snap-prone pieces. Those Torokage chains? Good luck having them last. In short, Wyrd promised the same quality, but didn't deliver. These aren't GW plastics, Failcast, or even Reaper Bones. I'd say they barely rate a step above the figures from the Last Night on Earth board game in terms of detail. I suppose we'll see if its the plastic, or the digital sculpting technique when the recasts of existing figures are released. Either way, these are a waste of money and time, and the last Wyrd plastic figures I buy until the quality dramatically improves.
