  1. Collodi is a special forces leader (dolls) so once he is in your crew he unlocks the option to play with as many special forces-doll models as you like. ---------- Post added at 02:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:15 PM ---------- Just keep in mind that not all doll models are Special Forces-doll models... Like the Stitched togeathers are dolls but not special forces so she can take 3 (rare 3 limit) in any game even if you don't have Collodi in the crew.
  2. Gotta love the undead pimp in the grandpa chair!
  3. But then you remember how bad malifaux child is and just how good Sweet child of mine is... no comparison. Now I have that song stuck in my head...
  4. On the plus side, you never feel bad pitching high cards to keep jack daw alive, it's not like you were going to carry them over to next turn anyways...
  5. Now that LCB can't jump you top of turn 1 while you're still in your deployment zone I feel this match up (while not great) has gotten a lot better. It's to the point where it's at least worth playing through. I feel like Jackdaw with his no cheat aura sitting just over 6" in front of Levi and a cache of 4-5 stones to cheat the defense that you might be able to lure LCB out and survive the barrage of attacks.
  6. Finish painting that crew yet? Counting down in hours now instead of days till the big day...
  7. Saw your posts on twitter, the board and crew are looking good. Hope to see you there!
  8. Flush cut sidecutters are the ticket. I picked up mine from the local harbor freight for $1.99. Takes those tabs off and leaves almost no trace behind.
  9. The blue gems are really well done. Been a while since i've seen anyone paint them in the classic style like that.
  10. Old Yeller has seen better days, that's for sure...
  11. The problem with this plan is that Ikiryo is Unique and multiples of the same name are not allowed. My understanding is the newly summoned one could not be placed on the table.
  12. I love the librarian, between the turquoise coloring and the subtle verdigris on the brass it is very reminiscent of an olde timey deep sea diver. And the ronin is very bubblegum-pop, I swear I had that girl work in my office before, and she was dumb as a brick...
  13. The white would be the only area I would suggest improvements on. Start with more of a flat white and give a thinned wash of light black paint for the recesses and then highlight back up to white. You put a lot of effort into painting the rest of the mini, it's a shame to cut corners drybrushing one part. Also, what primer are you using? A lot of your paint texture issues can be helped with a better thinner primer. I've done a lot of painting in my days (don't let my speed painting crew fool you ) and by far my favourite primer is walmart brand colorplace grey primer. It's thin, goes on smooth and i've never gotten the "dust" that you can get with other primers. Now it only comes in grey and they recently raised the price on it to $1.57 / can at my local shop...
  14. I could easily see that gallows hag as a nice swap for Jack Daw as well as a unique looking hanged.
  15. Couple suggestions that wouldn't even need converting. Convict Gun Slinger - you'd want to ebay the miss demeanor one of course. But another girl model and adds some solid ranged support. Ronin - Taken from his fluff that he loves to hire ladies and then keep the pretty ones for himself.. No reason this couldn't include other "women for hire" like the ronin...
  16. GW washes and foundation paints are a definite staple for my painting styles. Also I've never found a replacement that I find acceptable for hawk turquoise. Which I would die without.
  17. The world needs more Molly love. She's just such a great sculpt and I'm certain she will turn into the next Marcus once enough people are playing her and collaborating on tactics.
  18. Took last night to paint Kirai's avatar form. I'm yet to actually play with or against an avatar though... Should probably get on that before getting to Adepticon...
  19. So with the painting nearing completion on the Kirai and friends crew I'm looking to take them to Adepticon instead of my Neverborn as I had originally planned. The guys at Adepticon were very helpful in allowing me to switch factions this late in the game. So the question at this point is what else should I paint up to bring with Kirai? If nothing else I'm thinking perhaps a 2nd Resurrectionist master to deal with the Shared Distract mission. I've got some random thoughts below on various models. If at all possible I'd like to keep new model purchases to under $50-60 unless there is a really good reason to go past this. The Drowned - For Line in the sand or possibly Deliver a Msg, their ability to push with their 0 action and that they can't be pushed in return allowing them to camp objective points. Kirai being able to swirl them around the board helping to make up for their otherwise slow speeds. McMourning - As an alternate master to play in the Shared Distract mission, I think having a master that can potentially kill the opposing master in HTH might be needed to help secure those extra points. He looks like he can still play well with the models I have for my crew already and he doesn't "need" to play the summoning route. With his large initial cache he might pair well with VonSchill? So a pair of fast beaters running around the board? Dead Rider - The obvious play of having the lost love make him a spirit and then Kirai shenanigans to move him around the board. Grave Spirit - Alternate totem for play with mcmourning and/or to combo with Dead Rider. VonSchill - Everyone's favorite merc. Another high damage output model with great speed tricks. Goes well with all 3 missions to be played. 1-2 Insidious Madness - Just sort of on principle to combo with kirai and her crews anti-WP combat options. Also the raw speed of these models lets kirai worry about swirling other important models and let these guys walk off on their own.
  20. So I received my ebay shipment from last week and picked up a couple more items from our FLGS... and decided I would put together more of a time-lapse of the speed painting method i've used. Not including the time spent gluing models together or time for the primer to dry, etc. this batch of models were painted while watching 4 episodes of Top Gear while on the couch tonight, so about 3.5 hours. Let me know thoughts and comments! If anyone has any tips for playing kirai or has any additional models they think i should paint up for the crew let me know as well. I'll try to put a group shot together at some point as well. Lastly, I'm trying to trade away a MissPack if anyone is interested! Please drop me a PM if you want it! At this point I have simply washed all of the models with GW inks after primering them white. After allowing the washes to dry under the lamp for a few mins all of them have been given a thorough drybrushing with white. The blue skin (hawk turquoise), hair, and bases have been given their basic colors. The skin, hair, and bases have all been washed in either devlan mud (for earth tones) or badab black (for skin / hair) and allowed to dry a bit. First quick layers of highlights on skin and hair. After a couple more highlights. Really sharp contrast is used and then faded down using inks / washes to give the appearance of skill Some pics of the finished additions. ---------- Post added 03-19-2012 at 12:05 AM ---------- Previous post was 03-18-2012 at 11:23 PM ---------- So as promised here is the crew this far. At this point I have painted: Kirai Ikyro Datsu Ba Lost Love Jack Daw 2x shikome 4x Gaki 4x night terror 5x seishin 4x onryo
  21. Don't hate the player, hate the game. Wait, no, Hate the player, play the game.
  22. So I recently joined a painting escalation league at the FLGS and decided to start up a new crew to go along with it. Enter Kirai. Here's where the crew started after 1 evening of painting. To get to this level the whole crew was primered white and then each type of spirit was given a different color ink wash and then drybrushed white. Skin was given a quick blue color coat. The bases were given a quick brown and tan base coat and then inked devlan mud. Very basic. Approx 3 hours total painting. Here's the crew after 2 nights worth of painting. Some secondary accent colors added to all of the models, faces touched up with straight white (instead of drybrush) and re-blacked the bases. Approx 5 hours total painting time. Group shot of the completed crew this far. Jack Daw! Amazingly thematic model. Tons of interactive rules. The epitome of what it means to be Malifaux... Seishin, my little sacrificial buddies. Onryo and Poor dead Francis... Bad image quality hides the details of the Onryo face unfortunately. Another couple evenings of painting and I'll be happy with the crew. Got more Seishin / Gaki / Onryo on the way to come. Comments and criticism are welcome! Plz?!
