  1. Aye, although I was against The Dreamer yesterday and given my newbie-ness to Malifaux, swiftly discovered why killing him with half the Neverborn side buried was a silly thing to do. It seems I have to learn the tricks to healing my models as effectively as possible since they're quite fragile. Which will come in handy with doing the "Ikiryo Slingshot" etc. Although yesterday was my first game with Lost Love in the crew and I was probably a little reckless with Kirai, thinking "Ah, if she dies Lost Love will just suck it up" but in the future I'll try to utilise Seishin more.
  2. Ahh nice, I played it safe yesterday and just brought them on from the start but it's good to know they don't count towards the crew cost.
  3. In my crew, Kirai and Datsue-ba have the ability to summon in extra crew members during a game. Ikiryo has a cost value of S because she needs to be summoned to join a game and so you don't effectively hire her. Yesterday, I wanted to hold back an Onryo and a Gaki in the aim of summoning them into the game, but despite scouring the rules there seemed to be no clarification on if I had to pay hire costs for these models or they're effectively "free" because they're being summoned in as opposed to starting outright. Can anyone clarify?
  4. Ah cheers for the fast response. I know my LGS is taking part in the Dead Heat campaign over the summer although I have no idea if that constitutes an "official prize supported Wyrd tournament" since I think the prize aspect is something the LGS itself is doing. In either case it looks like the thing to do is buy whatever models I can and limit my summoning . I found the Seishin the trickiest to do, at least before I had access to a pinning drill. My faith in superglue alone has been shattered since I started playing Malifaux
  5. Currently, my only crew is my Kirai one (until I finally decide on which crew to go for next ) but one thing I've learnt in the few games I've had is that models like Datsue-ba seemingly earn their cost by summoning a fair chunk of murderous back-up to the field, quickly making the crew a much larger threat. However this is hindered by the sheer fact one must purchase a lot of models to accommodate this. Currently I'm between jobs so can't truly purchase reserve models until my bank account is slightly more secure, but is there any stipulation on proxy models? Ultimately I probably picked one of the less real-world cost effective crews to choose first it seems, but their aesthetic vibe/flavour drew me in.
  6. I tried running the kanji for ikiryō (生霊, "wraith" in English) through Google Translate to see if the computerised speech thing would help me in working out how it's said, but it sounded like a completely different word, which may just be a fault with Google Translate as it's not perfect. Nevertheless, Ikiryo seems like it has a few potential ways of being pronounced. I'm currently between: "ICK-IR YO" and "ICKI-RE-YO". Slightly odd thread I know, but I like to pronounce model names correctly and Kirai and her comrades have awesome names.
  7. Aloha, I'm gredgie (or Paul), had a Malifaux demo game on Wednesday night, found myself buying the rulebook, a fate deck and a Cult of December boxset Thursday morning. Whilst I was the only other non-henchman person at the demo (aside from a few random onlookers, the others who were meant to be at the demo were tied up with work/mucho ill), there does seem to be a nice amount of interest in the game around the area which will hopefully mean I can get in on some regular games. Aesthetically, Malifaux is awesome. I like how much effort has gone into it all, to make it a very flavourful world full of characters you want to learn more about. Gameplay-wise the mechanics seem rather fitting. No doubt I require one or two more games to really get a grasp on the rules but learning the game has been a fun experience so far. My demo game saw me leading the Ortegas (30SS worth as I recall) against the Showgirls and the henchman guiding me through the game was more than happy to answer all my questions. We ran out of time to finish the game, but I still saw a lot of mechanics in action as well as various abilities of both crews. So with that, I look forward to getting into it all!
