  1. Arcanists! The true heroes of Malifaux! We fight for the people! LOL Seriously though, we CONSTANTLY have a lot of fun at the LGS teasing each other around these lines. The mainly Neverborn players chime in with their "We were here first" and "We're the real heroes, fighting for our homeland". And then the Guild players will chime in with their "No, we're the heroes, trying to establish order and prevent more bloodshed!" It all is rather quite convoluted in the fluff no matter how you look at it. Makes for a good deal of fun poking at one another though. I am definitely interested to see where the fluff takes us in the future, but if I had to guess, I would think that Wyrd will continue to try and make it so that NO faction is actually painted as bad guys. Even the Neverborn, which, IMO, seem to be the most 'evil' throughout much of the fluff, came into their own in book 3, I think. Their fights against the Tyrants are a magnificent motivation for the majority of their activity in the first two books, and relegates their actions from being outright hatred or wanton destruction just for the sake of it against the invading humans, to actually some part of an overall plan to keep the Tyrants in check, and keep them from destroying both Malifaux AND Earth. So, overall, I think it's pretty cool how you can really make a compelling argument for ANY of the factions to be 'the good guys'. And I hope it continues like that. That way, I can always claim I'm playing the 'good guys' in my games, and my opponent is the 'evil guys'.
  2. I'm going to be busy during all the Malifaux events except for Saturday's, so I may be looking for an odd game here or there in the evenings after the other events are done. I'm sure there will be people around to play. There were last year.
  3. Yeah, I would say that finding a table to play on in the general gaming area has always been relatively easy. Still, $6 isn't bad, so if things are busy, you could always go grab a ticket for that area later in the weekend. I'll be helping out at the booth or judging events, but I'm mostly looking forward to meeting a lot of you in person!
  4. Thank, Nilus. About the only thing I didn't really look for was anything that needed to be updated based on the new FAQ/Errata. As I don't really play Guild outside of Hoffman (and him not very often), I'm not as familiar with what things may need to be fixed in that regard.
  5. You can do this right now by attacking your own Master. I've done it in games before myself, and had it done against me too. In fact, I actually had someone kill their own Marcus in a game against me to deny me the chance to Deliver the message. Was pretty funny actually at the time. So I don't think Drain Souls does anything to help/hurt that. It's probably one of the reasons why you won't see Deliver a Message on most Tournament lists for Strategies, IMO.
  6. In some ways, a lot of Masters can spend all their AP in a turn and kill an opposing Master (Viks, Lillith, LadyJ, etc.) so from that perspective, it doesn't seem too bad. The fact that the opposing Master only gets to truly defend on one flip (either Feral or the Combat) is the real sticking point. Once Stare Down is active, you're pretty much hosed. So at least with the combat orientated, multiple AP models, you have at least 2-3 chances to cheat and burn SS to win a duel and survive, as opposed to only 1 chance with Marcus. That said.....maybe this is the boost Marcus has needed all along to be playable again.
  7. Heh, I guess it's probably just because I see crews like Dreamer, Pandora, Colette, Kirai, etc. in the top many times, and they all have some devastating Wp based stuff. It's certainly dependent on individual meta and particular matchups, but I just don't see it as being that big of a problem, personally. Now, I think the whole Alpha-Drain Souls stuff is kinda crappy, IMO. It's bad enough to control the opponent's Master for a turn, denying them the chance to activate the piece. But to outright sacrifice it all together pretty much hangs the balance of the game on a single Soulstone card flip, which I don't think is a good thing.
  8. To be honest, I'm not so sure the -1 Wp is worth it with Levi to do it more than once or twice. I suppose if you're facing an opponent that has absolutely no Wp-based effects, but that rarely happens in my experience. I think it's a nice ace up the sleeve, so to speak, but certainly not something I would rely on, nor would I use it very often on the first turn in lieu of something like Alyce shooting him instead.
  9. That's probably the only reason why I will go ahead and pick up these ones. Honestly, I don't really think I would play Hanged in any of the crews I typically run. But since I don't have them, and I would definitely like to have the tree for the terrain piece, I'm down for it. Oh, and +1 on just listing stuff you can remember from what Eric talked about.
  10. Building pillars for GenCon!
  11. The Brass Arachnid looks awesome on the surface, but your crew becomes a VERY tome heavy build, because you need tomes cards for Stoke, Create Spider, AND Electrical Creation. So the likelihood of getting all 3 of those in any single turn is incredibly low. That said...I LIKE the Brass Arachnid, but it has to be in a build where you're already starting with a lot of stuff on the table for it to work with. Normally, if I'm hoping to use Stoke a lot, I'm usually planning to have Ramos do more with Electrical Fire, as opposed to summoning stuff. Then the Brass Arachnid can stoke stuff like the Steamborg or Spider Swarms. A Steamborg which charges in, then does Melee Expert, THEN Reactivates for another Melee Expert and Flurry...yeah, scary stuff. Tough to pull off, but VERY scary.
  12. I don't think you can do that because Hoffman or the MA will actually be holding the Scrap counters. Pretty sure you can only use counters to summon stuff if you are the one holding them, or if they are unclaimed on the table. May need to double-check on it though.
  13. I'm sorry you misconstrued any of my posts as attempts to gain an upper hand. I was simply explaining how the RULES USED TO WORK. Based on the number of posts you have, I could conclude that you're either a relatively new player, or maybe just don't post on the forums very much. In either case, I can only assume that maybe you either weren't around, or didn't see any of the old discussions about this. The FACT is...Levi USED to work exactly as I stated. You could cast Necrotic Unmaking regardless of how many Wounds you had left, simply because you might fail the spell, and therefore, the ability was not guaranteed to do damage. Personally, I don't think the current wording in the Rules Manual or the FAQ strictly disallows that either, but I will gladly play without that benefit. I point all these things out just to help people understand the history. I've been playing Levi for over a year and half, and Malifaux overall for 2 years. I'm not trying to have a $$$$$$$$ing match, but just saying....I do know what I'm talking about a little bit, and therefore it doesn't require a discourse like this. Obviously, the original poster was looking for some rules forum type help, that's why I pointed him that direction.
  14. Ductman, there's absolutely NO need for those kinds of responses. Levi is (and has been) widely regarded as a rather complex Master to learn, and tougher to Master. The question is quite valid as it DID use to work differently. Maybe YOU and your 8 year old genius daughter understood it fine, but that doesn't give you the right to make condescending remarks like that. Please take such attitudes elsewhere. "If you can't say something nice" and all that.
  15. If you want an official answer, you need to go post in the rules forum, not the generic Outcasts forum. That's for 'discussions'.
  16. Tokens are different from counters. Counters (like scrap and corpse) get dropped when a piece carrying them is killed. Tokens, on the other hand do not. So if you kill something with burning tokens on it, the tokens just disappear. Other than Fire Gamin, you can dish out burning tokens with Kaeris, Iggy, Sonnia's Avatar...and...I think that's it for. Hopefully will be more in future releases.
  17. No, the confusion has always stemmed from the fact that Levi's spells do not 'require' you to lose wounds. It is a possible outcome, since the spell could fail. That's where the original difference came from, and that discrepancy still exists today, IMO. I suggest posting the question in the rules forum to get a clear answer.
  18. While I'm not 100% clear about the new FAQ, it used to be that you could use any of Levi's spells to kill him, because you weren't performing an action that was guaranteed to kill him. There was always a chance that you might fail the Casting Cost, and the spell wouldn't go off. Therefore, the spells were allowed. I don't think that's changed with the new FAQ, but I could be missing something.
  19. Anytime a decoy is hit, the real Collette only takes half. With Soulstones and everything else going on, it's actually quite a bit tougher to kill aColette than you'd think. I know we haven't seen much about her on the forums yet so far, but I think once the model releases, we'll see a bit more chatter. Personally, I think she's one of the better Avatars, and can be quite powerful. Granted, regular Colette is strong too, IMO, so it may be up to an individual player whether they want to pay the 2SS for the Avatar. I know I usually will.
  20. Yeah, he has totally different card screwiness in his Avatar form.
  21. Great!! Glad you like them!
  22. Hey, when you've tweaked out your body with mechanical prosthetics, why not take advantage of it to win some sporting events against lesser mortals?
  23. Glad you have benefited from it! Feel free to chip in and help fill in any information for models that you see missing!
  24. Technically, Levi has the most versatility, as he can hire ANY Constructs (except the Coryphee). All 3 of them play very differently though. If you're more interested in Hoffman or Ramos, I'd say Ramos has the slightly wider selection of Constructs. Hoffman probably has more direct synergy because of stuff like his Ca being boosted by the Constructs, or getting to move with them, the Machine Puppet action, etc. But Ramos has the summoning Constructs aspect, and Ramos' Avatar is pure awesome.
