Viruk
They have a dark, forlorn look to them, some really excellent bryshwork there. Also, since I'm not able to reply to your PW - thanks but for now I don't want to get more minis than I can manage so KD will have to wait a bit longer
zFiend
I like the dark vibe in your whole Lynch crew! The Depleted especially look great.
SpiralngCadavr
Thanks! Viruk, sure, just thought I'd offer.
Peterdita
Creepy stuff. The tots are great!
SpiralngCadavr
Thanks-yeah, they were the crew's dark horse for me, really wasn't expecting to like them as much or for them to come out as well
SpiralngCadavr
Just a quick update, final "prawny" as he came to be known in my circles.
SpiralngCadavr
So... probably the most ambitious painting project I've done recently, and I feel it deserves a few highlights: the Nothing Beast's torso is actually around 1/2" longer than normal to exaggerate his form, the paint job was entirely guesswork (I tested the photos after completing everything). Also, I'd like opinions on whether the NB should get a sand base like the Wretches or is fine with nothing extra on his base, as-is. I was holding off on these guys for Wyrd Chronicles' gallery... a bit disappointed they didn't get in, but it gave me time to finish the rest of the core crew, so there'll be less of a delay between this half and the other, so, silver linings and all that. A link to more notes, as always.
Lysis
I love the Negative image your "nothingness" brings with it here. The inversion of colors on your void wretches is a fun twist! But most of all, I think pictures of them on the tabletop/terrain you play on would help the most in showing your detail. The black and white backgrounds are kind of hard to look at lol Personally I'd leave the base off of the NB, I think, as it might take away from his imposing mass (or make him take up even more space). It all depends on how they look on the tabletop itself.
SpiralngCadavr
Thanks! Re: other backgrounds, I'm actually working on a matching (desert, not specifically Void) table, hoping to have photos soonish and will be sure to take action photos w/ Tara & co. Re: basing, good point. I can keep the NB unattached until I make the final call...
Viruk
Love the look you've achieved, makes them look very ghostly and ethereal, totally out of this world - a perfect look for this crew imho.
zFiend
They look really eerie! Good job on those!
SpiralngCadavr
A little late, but thanks- glad the effect worked! Changed the base style a little on my Wretches (still haven't decided on the Nothing Beast), and close to finishing up the rest of the core crew. Sybarite
That's really cool! Love the inverted look. Well done!
SpiralngCadavr
The second half of the core crew (with notes as usual): and revised Void Wretches to match the new bases:
David Blank
OMG the nothing beast is truly an amazing piece. Just black and white in such dynamic paintjob, this could be straight out of a black and white nightmare. I am amazed that you bother to look at anything I paint with these type of skills. It raises every nice thing you say to me to a new level. You Rock!
Vorschlag
Nice, normally I hate blood on models but Graves looks really good. The paint job on the illuminated actually makes the models more tolerable, I wish our local Lynch player would take some queues from this ....I hate looking at illuminated models normallly. I really like the glowing eyes, i've tried the same thing with my ressurectionists in green, I think you've done a better job of it.
SpiralngCadavr
Malidave, thanks! Yeah, the Nothing Beast is my favorite of the crew- took forever to get it feeling right... wish it were slightly better/less glass-cannon-ish in-game, but I'm learning to use it pretty well, I think. Re: looking at your stuff, I really do like both sharing info and seeing people improve their skills- I've been enjoying watching your log get going Vorschlag, thanks- yeah, I very rarely do much with blood effects as I usually feel like they end up over the top, was happy with his bloody fists. Re: illuminated, yeah, other than the kneeling yelling guy I'm not a huge fan of those models. With my first set of them, I actually mostly put them in shadow, so I could downplay the parts I didn't like (page 5). For glowing eyes, I'd suggest painting them in white, then applying either a bright ink, or a thinned high pigment paint (I find "GAME color" is a good brand for that) to the eye/socket, then going back in on the eye with the color mixed with white if the eye doesn't pop enough. You can do more blending than that, but that principle works well for me.
Wings
The Void Wretches look so cool in that colour scheme.
SpiralngCadavr
Thanks! Love those little sand fleas, looking forward to getting another trio when tara's crew is released as a regular set.
parich
The Nothing Beast and Void Wretches are amazing! It really captures the feeling of pulling these creatures from a void. Without a doubt the best looking ones I've seen yet. Totally unique idea and executed perfectly.
SpiralngCadavr
Thanks! Yeah, probably the hardest color scheme for me to figure out that I've ever worked on, though I'm really happy with the results. In contrast... my third try with Sonnia's crew, taking more revisions than I'm used to. (Notes, as usual)
Viruk
I like the choice of darker colors on Sonnia, makes the OSL look much better now. I'm currently working on the avatar model myself and it's really tricky to paint so I can really appreciate how nicely you've done yours. SpiralngCadavr
Thanks, yeah, the light cloth really wasn't showing enough contrast. Also, yeah, that model is one of the hardest I've ever painted (painted trickier paint schemes, but by choice)- looking forward to seeing your version! SpiralngCadavr
Just a quick update today, with my first merc, Johan.
Viruk
Very nice use of cold and warm shades on this one, feels almost like a painting done on a canvas at a first glance!
