dgraz
gas lamps = awesome!!!
Viruk
Some good examples of how small details can have a positive effect on the whole, the pipes look great and the lamps will look fantastic once you put them in their proper places. Demonn Agram
thanks guys. now just to produce some 30 or so lamps...
Gujozec
The lamps look great! Though they would work better if you could get a hold of some more elongated beads like you said. The gremlin shack is fantastic!
Vin
Great idea on the bead lamps. your test lamps look pretty good as is, even if you are not able to find longer beads.
Demonn Agram
Thanks guys (and gals)! today I go shopping for elongated transparent beads... how hard could that be, right? EDIT: and here's a pic of my Hanging trees set that just arrived yesterday. I'm going to use it on my board as a terrain piece. Demonn Agram
T today I go shopping for elongated transparent beads... how hard could that be, right? I just knew it would bite me in the a$$! Been to three stores and they are all out of those transparent elongated beads. short transparent as many as you like. long in any colour that you like. just not transparent. *anger*
i_was_like_you
EDIT: and here's a pic of my Hanging trees set that just arrived yesterday. I'm going to use it on my board as a terrain piece. It certainly works nicely as terrain. I've been dragging ass when it comes to terrain building, but all three trees and three deck boxes to represent mausoleums made for a good start in a three player scrap a few weeks ago. Demonn Agram
This weekend I started working on a project which is the WAMP (forum - link here) challenge I have against the birthday boy Pete (happy B'day if you're reading this!). I managed to get pretty far with it. Started doing the basework (HD styrofoam): added some details made out of clay: started some accessories out of balsa wood: finished detailing the balsa wood accessory: added the texture: and finally undercoated it:
SteamHammer
Looks good. I really need to make more scenery. Where do you get the styrofoam? Is it something you can find in most DIY stores?
Demonn Agram
yes, I get it here in Bauhaus (it's a German or Austrian store with building material). High density styrofoam is an insulating material used for heat insulation of houses. People put it on the walls in between bricks and facade. It comes in 60x120cm size boards of various thickness (I use 2cm or 3cm thick ones). they aren't expensive.)
SteamHammer
Thanks. I'll have a look around some local shops next time I have a chance.
Viruk
Looks interesting even at this early stage. I'm not much for terrain making myself and will probably just end up painting the tree by itself but I'll be watching your progress with keen interest. MDL1113
WOW really cool
Demonn Agram
thanks guys. now I need your help with deciding something. Which sort of lamps look better? 1. short glass body; 2. elongated glass body; 3. elongated glass on top of short glass body.
Gujozec
I'd go with no.3. It looks a bit crooked in the picture, though.
osoi
Number 2 for me
Guardian
The third one looks the most steampunky, but it turned out (like Gujozec said) a bit crooked. How are you planing on painting the lighting effect, ie. The flame?
Demonn Agram
Simple! I don't intend to. I'll have almost 30 of the wee buggers in the brothel. to paint them all - no thanks. it'll be daytime oh, and I know it's crooked and it's not meant to be. on the real stuff it'l be straight. I was hurrying yesterday with making those prototypes to get their pics taken for this "poll" so I didn't take enough care. I promise the real ones will be straight. dgraz
3 for sure....naturally the one that requires the most work.
Kuro
#2 looks more convincing to me, but I don't think you can go wrong with #3 either.
Demonn Agram
thanks guys. keep 'em coming.. so far the score is: 1. - 0 2. - 2 3. - 3 Edited September 25, 2012 by Demonn Agram
Viruk
1 and 2 looks the best to me and I'd probably try mixing the two (don't know if this helps ).
Pagan Wolfe
3 is the most authentic looking. Loving this thread.
