Popular Post haychdee
Hey all, @WalkingInBlack Thanks for your continuing support and to answer your question I do actually do commissions. I mainly do sculpting commissions but if it's the right kind of project (i.e. something I'd enjoy) I am willing to pick up my brushes as well.@Alessandro Thank you very much @Joooohan I agree on both points. Work is already underway on fleshing out the family (check below) and I will be adding a few less thematic options in order to learn some better tactics. Display board wise I totally agree, the wall definitely needs a little something, originally I was going to add posters and notices. However the board was made in a rush as I needed it for the tournament so it didn't get the attention it deserved. I am starting work on a new one ready for UK Nationals though which will be getting a bit more effort poured into it. @sigmar3 Thank you. I've really enjoyed putting these together but the only problem now is thinking up what to do for the next project. @ringsnake Thanks for the kind feedback. You've just got to keep trying with conversions for Malifaux and then eventually you'll get the hang of it. I'd done quite a few other bits before I attempted this crew and I've been sculpting for 10 years or so. Regarding Abuela, I actually played around with a skull type design for Senor Hodor but I couldn't get it to look right. I may revisit him later and try adding a few more details. And to answer your question, the sheet in my spray booth was actually a timetable to make sure I got everything completed in time for the Scottish GT. @Averlorn Thank you, there's a little update with this post but there should be a few bits popping up between now and November. @sockwithaticket Thank you very much indeed and cheers for following this project through. So another small update of what I'm working on at the moment... I've fallen a bit behind (as usual) with this project but I'm starting to get things back on track. I have until November 19th to: - Convert and paint the peacekeeper - Convert and paint the Executioner - Touch up the current crew (mainly the NMM and freehand) - Design, make and paint up a new display board So time once again is against me but hopefully I can battle through and get everything ready on time. Just as long as I'm not planning on moving house anytime soon....ah yes I also move house next month. But on with a little update... First off we have the WIP of the Peacekeeper. The concept behind this guy is that he is a walking DdlM alter. I did a bit of research into the alters they offer in the actual festival and I loosely transferred it onto the model. I didn't include everything that would traditionally be on there, I focused more on the figure, candles, flowers and a bowl of incense (missing from pic). And next up we have the WIP of the Executioner. So this guy has had a bit of a re-pose to have his claws more down by his sides. And then I also decided to put him in a big duster coat with will look pretty similar to Santiago's. And that's all for now. I'll post up some more once I've made some decent progress. C&C welcomed as always hd
Grizelgrandt
GREAT STUFF!! I just recently started Malifaux and love to convert. At least that was what I did before Malifaux, I've started doing it with some sorrow models from pandoras crew, but after researching a bit, i found out that conversions aren't as appreciated in Malifaux as they are in other games. I read somewhere that 66% of the model needs to be the original sculpt. Otherwise tournament organizers may disqualify you. Is this something that you have encountered as well? Because some models have (in my opinion) bad poses or details that I dislike. And in the case of posing the difficulties are when you create a new pose you have less than 66% of the original sculpt. You might keep the head and weapons but the "core" would be exchanged. Your work is much appreciated, keep it up. You have inspired me! Candy.Trash
Do you have any Tips or Tricks for painting the Death Masks on their Faces ? I had the same Idea for my Ortega Crew, but fear to fail it when it comes to the Faces.

If you sculpt a mini 100% yourself and it's clear what it represents, it should be fine... As per GG you can't have more than 1/3 other companies' stuff...
Agent of the Breach
Your WIPs are my favorite thing on this forum. Good work!
Tiaburn Stedd
Looks like something wrong with photo service. I've been keeping this link in bookmarks, but now I can see only placeholders instead of pictures.
iamfanboy
What I find most unfortunate about this is that someone just paid me money to do their Ortegas up in Dia de los Meurtos facepaint (and Raiders colors), and this topic pops to the top... And the pictures don't work. D'oh!
haychdee
I've fallen way behind with updates for this blog and due to a photobucket re-shuffle the links are broken. I will fix the links soon. @iamfanboy all my pics are also on my instagram here https://www.instagram.com/haychdee/
iamfanboy
You put WAAAY more effort into yours, and I do love them - especially your Perdita. Which way did you decide to paint the faces, black first and then outline the white or white first and then color in with the black? I went black first and I was underwhelmed with the effect. I did white first then added the black and then the other colours on top. I did Perdita last and I think it turned out the best. I airbrushed the white on for good coverage first, then took my super super fine bristle brush and carefully added everything else on.
haychdee
Hey all, So this update is very long overdue (as always). I never really got around to tying this project up properly so I figured now is the time to do it. For people following this thread I did finish my crew and the new display board in time for the UK Nationals last year. The display board took me pretty much 5 weeks on the run up and though I was happy with the end product it wasn't worth the stress. I walked away with 2nd place for painting (players vote) missing out on 1st by 1 vote. I was beaten by a rather nice 10T crew in the end for the painting and a fantastic Dark Carnival piece for the display board category. Then once all that was over it was Christmas and then real life stuff got in the way and I never got around to updating this thread. Then being the mastermind I am I tidied up my photobucket the other month and broke all my links (go me!). So today I re-linked all my work and grabbed some finished pictures of the individual crew members. I had to pinch them from my Instagram so they're not the best quality but it's all I have I'm afraid. Perdita Enslaved Nephelim Santiago Francisco Nino Papa Loco Abuela & Senor Hodor Executioner A WIP of their display board And the finished article with all the family And that is the Ortega family all done and dusted for now. Sadly I never did finish the Peacekeeper though I will get around to that at some point. I really enjoyed this project and I learnt a load of stuff in the process. Massive thanks to those that have followed this project and provided your suggestions and comments. And now currently I am on to my new project, Marcus! I have started not only a new crew but a website/blog as well. So if you'd like to follow my progress you can find my website at www.haychdee.com And if you're on Instagram or Twitter you can also find me at @haychdee So that's it for now. I will hopefully be back with some updates in the future. hd
Treehouse
So very much worth the work - I admire the amount of thought and work that has gone into this. Excellent piece of work. I'd love to see that Peacekeeper.
