  1. Here's some bits I started working on finally - hopefully will actually make some progress now. This is for my swamp board. I have 6 pieces of 2x2 board to make it semi-modular (so far I can figure at least one other configuration besides the base). I did some cleaning up, and did some blending of edges, a few more cuts in sides. The right lower quadrant is going to have small hillocks - they'll be nests eventually. I have a small hill on the mid right (not started yet really). Three "islands" of land that I'm debating whether to put permanently down, or keep as a kind of free floating areas of earth. I built the upper left area up some, for some variation. The left hand is going to be mostly some forest. In case it's not obvious the mid area is going to all be the swamp. Added rocks and sand! Also finished the basecoating (obviously). Next step is really waiting on the watered down PVA to dry and then I can start some washes and adding drybrushing as well as plants etc.
  2. http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/learn to paint/latest/08906 This is a very nice set, with a few minatures to learn to paint on (made of bones material which is different from the malifaux materials). But it includes a couple of paint brushes - of medium quality - several paints as well as the carrying case itself. It also has a very handy how to booklet on painting miniatures. You can choose from many different paint brands now as mentioned above. GW paints are still pretty thick and require more thinning to use (just use water), Vallejo makes very good paints as well, and of course Reaper too, as mentioned above. They have a whole paint line that is available in triads, a very useful format for beginning to paint. Triads mean you have three paints meant to work together as base, medium ton and highlight - so basically you don't have to start out figuring out your recipes. As regards to colours etc or what to pick, I would do something like this as a minimum: Black Off White Brown (Dark and Medium) Metal (Leadbelcher etc) Silver (Runefang steel, or other highlight metal colour) Then pick a couple colours you intend to paint your miniatures - for instance, for Gremlins, I use green skin tones so I tend towards swamp greens (a dark, medium and highlight). Then if you have clothing, you can do a primary or secondary colour. So for instance maybe you pick a red shirt, with brown leather pants. then you'd buy a red and a red highlight colour (Mephiston red, Wazdaka red, fire dragon etc) Once you've the clothing and skin tones sorted, you've really got all you need overall. I usually prime black if I'm going for dark colours, but some people use grey or white as well. Do your metals by painting black (unless you primed black), then use your base metal colour. Optional: something like Nuln Oil as a wash. Highlight with Runefang steel, or another close to silver tone. Do your leathers/other browns with the dark brown. Optional: Agrax earthshade wash (or other brown ink wash). Highlight with the medium brown. You can do extreme highlights with the off white as well. Clothes will obivously depend on what colour you pick, but if you pick at least two, a main colour, and a spot colour, to help it stand out a bit, that'll get you started pretty well. Also, check out various painting tutorials on Youtube! I like EpicDuckStudios, Miniwargamer Jay (excellent step by step beginning tutorials and technique tutorials), GirlPainting and Doctor Faust's Paint clinic, myself.
  3. Now that's a Slophauler =D I just got a couple metal malifaux gremlins off ebay cuz I love metals. One is Francois and I think the other is Rami (although I do very much like Rami's plastic model). And I got a couple more bayou gremlins - aside from the fact that ones staring at the wrong end of his rifle which is hilarious, if you start running a summoning crew it's very nice to have a couple of different ones, in addition to the four plastics.
  4. My Lenny - totally agree with the idea of mismatched cast off clothing as well. I gave him a UGA shirt cuz go Dawgs! and cuz I'm in GA lol My Sammy - really hard to get a pic of her face due to the hat Burt Jebson! with a superman T-shirt you can see more pics of my crew etc on my thread http://themostexcellentandawesomeforumever-wyrd.com/topic/110976-guildys-malifaux-crew-wip-and-yknow-stuffs/?page=1 I haven't really gotten one of them all together yet =/ sadly. I have some Bayou Gremlins I'm repairing (again, I've lost count) and the pigapult and piglets still to paint. And a completely unopened Creative Taxidermy box lol
  5. <cries> so.... much... shiny.....
  6. I dunno, I mean it seems like you would have trouble doing it regularly at all, at least enough to get complained about? Wish I'd thought to use a skeeter to help with summoning before, I'd been using Somer only for the do it like dis. I need to learn how to tarpit better I guess as well - last two games I've gotten my skeeters blown up rather quickly by turn 2. Kind of good in one sense, they kept models busy at least. But I was hoping to get more use out of them.
  7. Oh God I've given up on the bits I've lost lol I mean, a bayou Gremlins foot (hid him behind a bush to cover it), Somer's face also comes in three parts, or is it four? I forget I've blocked it out tbh. Skeeters wings just don't want to stay attached no matter what I do, antenae broke before even getting it off the sprue. Some of the bits in Malifaux are soo small I'm afraid to throw away the sprues in case I've missed something lol But this is why I'm so getting that Masochist Malifaux Modeler's T-shirt soon! it's just so fitting. Absolutely beautiful sculpts, and going forward I know they're talking about making it better, but in the mean time just have to stick with it.
  8. Absolutely love this box already - look forward to complaining about putting it together and hiding the price tag from my husband lmao I should note, I don't even play Guild, though trying to get hubby into it. Nor outcasts, but I really like the whole steampunky bits in Malifaux as well, and these sculpts look kick ars... you know. Also can't help but see one of them as a doomwheel, ala my Skaven in WHFB lol
  9. Mine have lost both I think as well and one lost a wing, which actually was kind of convenient as I find it easier to tell them apart now lol I won't put them in foam though for carrying. I magnetised their bases and put them on a cookie tin lid so they wouldn't get any more damaged. Works very well.
  10. since you already have the slop haulers, a single extra box of Bayou Gremlins would really be about all you need for Somer as summoner. I guess unless you really want to do a horde upon horde of them or something.
  11. just noting, from the few games I've had, the opponents who knew what Bigger Hat Than You did , were careful to keep their masters out of Somer's LoS (boo :P) and it worked really awesome against the two who didn't know what it did, but made me feel kind of bad about it =/
  12. Current state of hubby's perdita crew - I think I'll do the highlights on the enslaved nephilhim and then probably wash him with purple/blue to match
  13. not hard at all - just make a marshy/swamp base Add some jugs of 'shine and some beer cans and you're good The wyrd ones are good I think, from the pictures too.
  14. He looks good! nice job on the pipe, there. I broke a skeeter antenna too, lost one of the gremlins feet (still no clue where it went) and one of my bayou gremlins has completely lost his rifle for the final time (I still have it, it just won't stay on after repeated attempts to reglue). But if you do go slowly, lay your stuff on something like a large white piece of the foam from one of the larger boxes, I've found it's not too bad (course I'm used to it now!) Err, re: masters - I've only actually played Somer. You can start him just fine with only an extra set of bayou gremlins and one of slop haulers, imo. That should give you enough to do either the gunline idea, or gremlin summoning Somer. Ophelia is more straightforward from what I understand, but like I said, haven't played her. Good luck with whatever you choose let us know how it goes =D
  15. ugh so many good models, so little time! I've been hearing a lot about Fingers, so this is very helpful
  16. Honestly, being as how he's a gremlin, that is always going to be the question I suspect lol
  17. I really wouldn't want a hat on him, honestly, it's liable to just get blown off when he launches. love the Skypirate idea, love the sculpt. Questioning the insignificant but I spose that's to do with something on his cardback or other combo Will be getting him of course, cuz Gremlin plus pirate!? awesome sauce.
  18. Got the austringers together - anyone happen to have advice on what I fear is going to be the inevitable pinning of teeny tiny limbs? I did get very small drills, but not sure where/what kind of wire to get to pin with.
  19. some of my WIP stuffs: Started hubby's Perdita crew last night ^^ omg such little parts, so glad my tiny tiny drills came in, already lost an arm off perdita just taking this shot! ^^ Not really looking forward to putting Nino together lol Still, it's not one of the annoying Bayou Gremlins with separate feet and Somer with a three piece head! *edit* oh and you know how to tell how much you love your SO or they love you? Yeah, I got him Austringers and I'm putting them together for him. Gotta be true love. Ebil Guild! lol
  20. what's one more game?? *cough cough* lol
  21. honestly if it's cost that is keeping you back, maybe try proxing some? I mean, pigs in kids toys aren't really that hard to get tbh. Just stick a few temporarily on a base. Then you can see if you even like the whole shebang and later upgrade to "real" piglet models.
  22. Makes sense - can't please everyone. Speaking of pleasing - please send me the stompy robot kthxbye. I don't care what game it's from, for, or faction. I must have it I must <eye twitches>
  23. well you know, western wear is typically very bright and colourful
  24. Just thought I'd update as hubby finally picked a master/faction Big surprise, he chose Perdita/Guild. At least to start. He was undecided all the way up to the store even hah Only issue is he doesn't want me to paint them like they're wearing leather I was looking forward to that. Ah well! thanks again for the help guys
