  1. New acronym anyone ? Do we all start calling it "The SRH" from now on?
  2. Raptors are tremendous enemy-VP-denial tools for Interference and Convict Labour.
  3. 12 singles is almost certainly probably too many. With a 4-5 turn game, you will struggle to ever have more than 9 on table, as you can only summon 2 or 3 per turn, and some of them will inevitably get killed given that being in base contact with enemy beatsticks is where they really want to be... You also actually want some to die to create more scrap to summon more spiders.
  4. If you've only got 6 spiders and no magnet shenanigans, make them as 6 single spiders. Ramos should comfortably conjure up 2 every turn, and finds it tricky to conjure up 3 - so if you have 3 singles and a swarm you are guaranteed to run out of singles in turn 2, which is even before yu have enough on table to make a swarm. Not really a good look. Making a swarm is highly situational, and staying as 3 singles is often better for most schemes and strats. I'd even be tempted to suggest getting up to 9 singles before you build a swarm.
  5. Any news as yet as to whether this will use GG 2016 ?
  6. Nice! Here's my Snowstorm construction thread in the painting forum - interesting that you also found the lady to be "floating". It seems a big gap between her and the floor to have left in the actual model.
  7. I've considered it, and I do usually do a wash over my crews, but in this case I bought the core Raspy box second hand on eBay, and the models in the crew didn't really have a wash - so when I added Snowstorm (and the Wendigo, which was unpainted) I thought it best to do a drybrush-type paint job on them to keep them consistent - like with this Ice Golem. The rest of the crew are here
  8. Aaaah - thanks. I think I understand. So the key thing is that discarding the card is not a trigger, it is part of the duel. Its discarding is therefore an effect of the duel, and so happens before the resolution of triggers If the effect on the card was a trigger, the paralysis would go through as the active players triggers happen first?
  9. This came up in a game last night, and is about the order of effects. The scenario is that a Silent One hits Seamus with Frozen Touch (and causes 1 damage). The attack also hits it's trigger, which (from the card wording) says "After damaging, the Target gains Paralyzed". Seamus' however then drops his Magic Haberdashery card, which reads "After this model suffers damage, this model may reduce the damage to 0." The question is whether or not Seamus is paralyzed... ? The 2 sections that seem to be relevant to this in the FAQ are: 12) Q: Can a model use a Soulstone to prevent damage which may not be reduced? A: Yes. Damage prevention is different than damage reduction. 18) Q: If a model suffers 0 (zero) damage, does it count as having suffered damage? A: No Has Seamus suffered no damage? Or has he suffered damage, been paralyzed, and then reduced the damage to zero ? The sequence of combat actions and outcomes in the small rules manual (I think page 52?) says that post-combat actions are resolved with the active player (ie the Silent One) first, which suggests to me that Seamus is paralyzed before the damage is reduced to zero. Thanks for your consideration.
  10. He's a big hairy Wendigo, trapped next to a Silent One.. and is sort of pivotal in many Rasputina crews, so me, like many others, have been waiting for this fella to come out in plastic for quite some time. Here's my building and painting walkthrough of the new plastic model
  11. Indeed. I think I'll stick with my proxy yeti..
  12. I find that summoning 2 spiders is almost better than summoning 3: - its easier (and so more reliable) and uses less SS - they come in with just 1 wound (after applying armour), so heal up t full strength immediately they activate - you still have good cards left for other stuff - if you set out and expect/plan to do this every turn, you don't end up getting annoyed about having the cards for summoning three ! I like the use of the Toolbox to "upgrade Howards attack before it dies" idea in here, but one of the other non-obvious-to-a-newbie "tricks" is that Brass Arachnid can add a tome to itself, and then re-wire itself in its first activation, and that means it can then reactivate 2 different models in its second (re) activation. But the dammed thing is very slow, and has a fairly short range, so is definitely not a no-brainer include.
  13. I guess it would be a 1 in 52 chance... ! Its still a good opportunity for someone to have a go if they are thinking about TO'ing - all the hard work is already done, its just list checking, scenario setting and terrain wrangling as I said above. I can probably conjure up at least 3 tables worth myself, so if there are any Manchester-based clubs or groups who maybe fancy taking it on as a team effort it might only need a few more tables cooking up...
  14. Slightly horse-before-cart posting I admit, however I'm organizing the Britcon event in Manchester over the weekend of 12-14 August (a 200-player multi-ruleset gaming event with a small trade show) and I find myself in the position of probably having some spare table space on Sunday 14th, as I have a 1-day event running (that uses 3x3 playing areas) on the Saturday. So, given that the venue is booked, gaming is happening everywhere else in the venue, there's a trade show running, there's a bar and food and we have a setup already that is in place to take bookings and collect entry fees (which would need to be set at around £13/head to cover the costs of venue, table hire and some prizes) .... I wondered if anyone fancied actually GM/TO'ing a one-day Malifaux event at the event, on the basis that they would only (ahem) need to do the the umpiring, scenario setting and terrain rustling-upping (sic) bits, as all the other work has already been done..? If this sounds like you, please pm me and we can discuss ! tim
  15. The original metal version was a one piece casting. That's a fair bit easier!
  16. Metal Gamin are quite good for giving protection to Cojo when he's stood in the middle of the table pushing folks around. Thats one of the places where their Metal Protection still works properly!
  17. OK - much delayed, not particularly extensive, and missing photos from one game... but here is my Rebels & Rioters report
  18. Actually, I do have some grass tufts that I can add - I have them on some other crews, but its been a while since I painted one so I think I'd forgotten!
  19. Now that the 7th, and final, Arcanist crew has been released in plastic, I've now painted it up. This involved a bit of innovative basing (for me), some cute use of mini magnets and a lot of flesh coloured paint as Colette and the Showgirls take to the stage for the first time! Full details of the (pretty average and unskilled compared to most folks here, but hopefully still useful to mere mortals ) painting and basing here on my blog
  20. Metal is now the Gamin for using against constructs to use it's magentism. PoM is a bonus, Armour +1 (edited +2) is actually quite a bit meh but better than nothing, and card-free defensive stance is a real force-multiplier on the armour as wellFire Gamin is for synergy with burning, and when you need some fairly erratic shooting at range. Ice Gamin is for, erm, synergy with Frozen Heart (?) and an immunity to some duels, which is sort of a situational benefit depending on your opponents crew whatever else it does that I can't remember. Wind is for people who have the new book, but I don't have it yet scheme running where you need to run schemesI guess that does make Metal nondescript - but it may be better to say its use is more situationally dependent (like Ice and Wind especially), but also that its key magnetic attack is one of the best attack stats in the game and is therefore more reliable
  21. That's what I thought, but it was hard to find in the rules last night. So what about a second walk (or 'flight') action?
  22. OK, so ... set them on fire, give them flight which "ignores all models" ... dos that mean anything that is flying can fly over enemy models engagement zones without taking disengaging strikes?
  23. 4 short-ish reports and photos from two of them from the recent CroFaux competition in glorious SE London now on my website... http://www.madaxeman.com/reports/CroFaux_2015_1.php
  24. So.... a bored eBay afternoon and suddenly I have a proxy for the Arcane Emissary. Metallic skin? . Bull-like? . Blue Electrical stuff going on maybe ? . Possibly a tad large, but it will fit on a 50mm base More photos here http://www.madaxeman.com/main/Malifaux_Ramos_and_Hoffman_Crews.php#arcane
