  1. I play Malifaux for fun. Winning against a good opponent is fun. Good narrative is fun. Helping a new player craft an awesome story with you is fun. Grounding a new player into the dirt is not fun, watching them leave the store with their head down is not fun. Seeing the moment a person decides they are just done playing this game is not fun. That doesn't mean you can't bring a competitive list to play a competitive player. It does mean that bringing your same beats-everything list every single time you play, no matter who you are playing, is a jerk move. If a guy has played 8 games of Malifaux and lost the last 7 games, then bringing your uber-competitive list to smash him into the dirt is a jerk move. If winning is all that matters to you, then play someone else, if not then try something that you've never tried before. You could even tell them that you are trying out a new thing and not sure how it will work, let them be in on the testing of it so when it does amazing, they can feel some joy too, they were in on the plan. I had an opponent, in a fun game, tell me about a new thing he was going to do, and I changed the way I played so I could help make sure it worked so we could both see it in action. I lost, but it was still fun because I got to see a cool interaction between models and then figure out ways to counter it in future games.
  2. While I think the discussion is good, I wish someone could change the title of the thread. I don't think this has anything to do with miniwargaming, just an unfortunate OP post without a link. I really like Malifaux as a game and really like most of the models as well. I have the Viks, Raspy, Tara, and Ramos crews. I'm building a McMourning crew but didn't start with the crew box. My wife is painting the Lillith crew box and I bought her Lady Justice as well, just in case she likes it. Some models I really like, for example the new Raspy (I have an old sculpt and the new one). I like the old Viks better than the new ones, but I also painted pointy Vik with a little more clothing covering her legs. That is one of the cool things about the hobby, a great sculptor makes the base model and then I get to put my own interpretation on the model, colors, pose, etc. My new Raspy is painted with Khador colors (Warmachine) because I wanted to do that and will probably use her to lead my Khador army every once in a while. Screaming sexism because of a piece of plastic is a little pre-mature. Sexism is an attitude and way of looking at the world, but that is impossible to tell just by looking at one thing. If a guy showed up to play and every one of his models was a naked woman and he called the women in the store demeaning names on the way in, I would suspect he was a scumbag. Of course, if he showed up with fully-clothed models that were not demeaning in any way, yet called the women demeaning names on the way in, I would still suspect he was a scumbag. Perhaps the models he brings has nothing to do with it, perhaps its' the way he treats women that is the indicator.
  3. That is the link, however I listened to the part about Malifaux and it was an explanation about supply chain issues. They don't want a large number of "out of stock" items on their site. At that point (and it would seem to still be the case), the suppliers were not keeping large quantities of Malifaux on stock (ordered something from my FLGS and it's been a month and still nothing, the store ordered it from the supplier who has ordered it and it is just not here yet). So miniwargaming was going to either have to buy many thousands of dollars in Malifaux items to have some sit on the shelf, just so they could avoid the "out of stock" problem. None of that has anything to do with religious beliefs or how the models look. In fact, right off the bat they say that they would like to carry Malifaux because they think it would sell, but then they go into the supply chain discussion. They no longer carry any miniatures (well other than one that they were very involved with), so supply chain issues plus shipping from Canada sound like they took a toll.
  4. Where did this come from? Is there a link? I do find a link to a video on "Why we don't carry Malifaux" on MiniWarGaming's site. That video talks about Malifaux but he says they would like to. Since their site doesn't carry other companies miniatures anymore either, I'm confused. Please post a link, so we can see what they actually said.
  5. Will the scenarios from the old box still work well in M2E? (with the new cards downloaded, of course)
  6. Weird that it did that. It certainly got attention though, which is what you want, right? I'm in Northwest Arkansas, so take a little while to get there from here, but worth it to meet up with some Malifaux players I haven't met yet.
  7. Last year, during Gen Con, I found someone who wanted the new Ice Gamin and Ice Golem models but didn't want Rasputina. I really wanted Raspy because I wanted to paint her in Khador red and use her in Malifaux and Warmachine, but I have the old Gamin / Golem models painted up and I'm satisfied with them for playing. I think he gave me $30 for the gamin and golem models, so Raspy only cost me $15 plus some shipping. i'd bet there is someone on here who wants the new Ramos, but isn't interested in Joss (or already has a Joss they are happy with) and would jump at the opportunity to get some help buying a box.
  8. Can't believe that nobody from Arkansas has requested to be added. Well, I'll be the first. Player: Tye (Real Name Joe) Country: USA State: Arkansas City: Rogers Store: Gamer Utopia
  9. Where are the Viks getting all this healing from? I have not played using my Viktoria crew since M2E came out, but they were my favorite crew in 1.5. When I saw that healing on any of the Sister models heals them all, I was excited until I saw that there is no spend a stone to get a healing flip, like we had in 1.5. Other than Vanessa (coming out 2nd wave), who has healing for the Viks?
  10. Completely off-topic, but I love the way you did the alternate sculpt Viks, this is probably the best I've seen them painted. I had not been a fan of the sculpt, so never bought it, but the detail that you pulled out makes them look nice. Might buy them, so I have all 3 versions of the Viks.
  11. Wyrd Chronicles entries for the masters could help with the fluff, then perhaps a fluff book for next GenCon that advances the story.
  12. The way Paizo handles it is the PDF has your identifying information in the PDF, so you buy the PDF, you upload the PDF, and now everyone who downloads it knows it's from you. Not to say someone couldn't figure out how to get around that by digitally manipulating the file, but it does "keep honest people honest".
  13. Maybe Wyrd could go with a whole PDF line, with a rules-only book and cards available for purchase. I'd like it to be more like Pazio (Pathfinder) where the $50 book allows an add-on PDF for $10 then GW where the digital version is the same price (or more sometimes) than the physical version. I like having the physical book to thumb through and have with me when I play, so I'm going to own the physical copy, but I like having a digital version for reference when I'm sitting at my computer, searching, etc.
  14. The decision to use a SS must be done at the very beginning, by the time you get to cheat fate it is to late to use the SS.
  15. I guess it is possible that someone missed the GenCon online store timeframe to get Tara and has now read how awesome Tara is and/or saw the painted crews people have posted and now they must have Tara, however; I think that supply is exceeding demand currently. Wait 6 months or so and she should be worth $100+ (hopefully much more).
  16. I said this in the prior thread, but I'll say it again here (hopefully more eloquently or something. I completely understand not wanting to shell out $16 (or $32) to get the few cards you need to play your dual-faction master. When it's put that way, I'd hate it too. If all you want is the cards to play your models, then the new deck system is not ideal. I have a friend that I play 40k with, he has a copy of every current codex. That's probably $500 worth of books, just so that he knows the stats of his opponent. Buying less than $100 worth of cards to have all the stats is much better. No matter which way Wyrd did it, it won't be ideal for everyone. In regards to needing singles, there are 2 possibilities. 1) There is a big need/demand for individual cards. If this is the case, then I can see asking Wyrd to do this. Makes their customers happy and makes money for Wyrd. However, this also means that people can pay $8 for an arsenal box and make money hand-over-fist selling the individual cards on ebay. If you believe this is the case, then buy a few decks and start selling cards. Wyrd has said they are not interested in doing this anymore, so no problems. Very little startup costs and huge profit. If only 10 cards in a deck are worth $1 each plus shipping (which is not really high demand and need) than you make 25% profit for every deck you buy. If demand is really high, than there would be a few (5 at least) in each deck that are worth $2 and a bunch more worth $1, so at least $20 profit in each deck. If that is true, I'll pull all my money out of the bank and start selling cards! 200% interest is hard to get in a bank. or 2) There is not a big demand/need for individual cards. If this is the case, then Wyrd is making the right choice and those of us that want extra cards should be able to get them from friends pretty easily. Wyrd did the individual cards thing for a while, so they may know the market better than I do. I suspect 2 is the case, so I'm not buying packs to break up and sell. I bought the Outcast and Arcanist arsenal packs. So far, I only use Raspy, Ramos, and the Viks. I will soon be using Tara, so I'll buy the Resurectionists arsenal pack as well. Here's my offer. If you need cards out of any of those 3 packs and live within an hour or so drive of me, I'll drive to your local game store and give you the cards in exchange for a friendly fun game (using your new cards that I just gave you, no less!). I'm sure there are others that feel just like I do. Hey, if you are a decent person who is fun to play, I'll even buy one of the other faction decks just so I can give you some cards in exchange for a game! This game is fun and I can afford the cost of an $8 deck to help a few people out, hopefully make a new friend or two, and have some fun playing a game I like.
  17. If you have ever dated or been involved with a redhead, you would know the answer. As a redhead, she will be unpredictable and unmanageable but, in the beginning, you will continue playing with her, not realizing how miserable you are and how happy you could be if you had only chosen differently. In games where she absolutely refuses to even be considerate to your goals and ambitions, your friends will say "Why don't you leave her (out of the game)?" and you will defend her and run back to her. In a few games, she will frustrate both you and your opponent to the point that you will agree that she is bad news. But that won't last, you'll invite her back to your table. In the end, you will realize that .... if you had it to do over, you would have chosen differently.... but she does that thing with her hammer, and when she does.... it is so worth it!
  18. I received an email saying my order was processed, that had a link to check order status. Once I received the email saying the order was complete, I checked status using the same link (again, off the processed email) and it had a tracking number. Using that Fed Ex Ground tracking number, I was able to determine it was on it's way to my house and I received it Saturday morning!
  19. I see a lot of people talking about the arsenal decks (and hating them because they have to buy the whole deck to get the 1 or 2 cards they want). I like the idea of a deck for all the cards in a faction, but I understand the inefficiency of buying a deck to get 2 cards. dgraz - If you lived anywhere within an hours drive of me (or so), I would happily give you all my beast cards out of my Outcast and Arcanist packs in exchange for a quick game of Malifaux! However, you live in New York and I live in Arkansas. That's not even an hour or so plane flight, so hard to justify to my wife. Anyone close to the North-West corner of Arkansas that need a card or 2 from Outcasts / Arcanists in exchange for a game? As excited as I am about M2E, I'll even expand that to any deck, I'll happily spend the $8 on a deck to get you the couple cards you want, I'm having trouble finding people to play at my FLGS.
  20. Interesting, the initial argument was Wyrd should sell individual cards, like they used to, because there is this huge demand for individual cards and people shouldn't have to buy the deck for $8. If there is this huge demand for individual cards, then there would be profit to be made in buying decks and splitting them up. However, the argument now is there is no profit in splitting up the cards because there are only 3 or 4 that are worth anything in a deck. (Profit would only require 10 cards in a deck to be worth $1 plus shipping, that gets you a 25% return on investment) If there is no profit for an individual to split up the deck and sell individual cards, that means there is no demand for the cards. If there is no demand for the cards, than Wyrd is making the right choice in not selling cards.
  21. So, if I want hope that I will get it soon I just read the ones that say it arrived days after Gen Con ended, if I want despair I read the ones talking about months and FLGS getting it before they did. Bottom line, we'll get it when we get it or maybe a couple minutes after. I just hope they don't run out of Miss Step models before they service my order(s).
  22. I'd be willing to make the same trade for one of my Miss Steps. Anyone else want a Miss Step and have Miss Terious?
  23. Is this really confirmed or are you just trying to drive down prices of Miss Terious so you can buy her and run her with your Tara crew? :1_Happy_Puppet1: If it's the second, I fully support you. I think an undead Miss Terious would be so cool!
  24. I'm sure you can find someone to buy the models you don't want off of you. I'd like to get the new Raspy sculpt but really didn't want to buy the whole set to get her. PM me and we can negotiate..... .
  25. So I've played 2 games against my friend and his Gremlins. The Companion rule makes his crew really tough. As soon as one of my models is in a vulnerable spot, he activates a bunch of his models and they team up on that model and kill it (most of the time). So far I have lost one Scrap, with Raspy and won one, with the Viks, but that win was so close that activation order would have changed it. The only model I had left was gun-toting Vik and she was in melee range of the last 3 of his models. I won initiative so Vik went first and managed to whirlwind and kill all 3 with my 3 attacks that turn. If he had won initiative, he would have shot me to death (since his guys can shoot Ht 2 models in melee with Ht 1 models). Some of the mistakes I made: 1) I put models in dangerous places that allowed them to be ganged up on. Both times, this was due to special abilities. In Raspy's crew, I sent Ice Mirror models up to try to get Raspy some more range. In my Viks crew, I did the slingshot move and got sword Vik in melee with one of his Gremlins right away, then realized he could still shoot her to death with no fear because she was to tall. (I ran into this with my Ht 3 Ice Golem, but didn't really think about the fact that it affects Ht 2 models too). 2) Didn't use cover well enough. Once I started forcing negative flips for his attacks, my guys stayed alive a lot longer. 3) Didn't move my models in such a way as to force him to face 2 or more targets at a time. This was just crazy, but it had been a few months since I played his Gremlins so I forgot about Companion when I setup. My plan was to have each model go around a corner and get him to keep firing at the latest model that came in view, hopefully spreading the wounds across all my models until I could get them into melee. What ended up happening is he would activate 3 or 4 models when a target appeared and kill a model then wait for the next model to appear to mass-activate again. Instead of sling-shotting sword Vik into place, i should have moved sword vik up, popped gun-vik up and walked her once and shot. That way he had 2 very dangerous models attacking his models and might have split fire. So, what is the best way to handle crews with tons of Companion rule models in them? Is it just a matter of luck of the initiative draw? Even after he activated his entire crew, I could just move my models in a haphazard way, because he might win the next initiative draw and then just gang up on one of my models again (which happened against Raspy and pretty much won the game for him).
