  1. My wife played Chaos Space Marines for a bit, and her models were always in eye-gouging neon colors. She considered it psychological warfare.
  2. Seconded. The gameplay video they already did was very good, but I'd still like to see more, and with different factions if possible.
  3. Agreed on this. My FLGS is a rather small place, but they have a 4 x 8 table et up in the middle of the so we can get two 4x4 games on it. Mind you, if the app tuns out to be a useful enough tool, that will take up less space than the cards. And depending on how big the tokens are, a small Plano box might handle that nicely.
  4. Your profile pick should be sticking its tongue out.
  5. I think it'll work out too, I'm just venting a bit. I got in to Warmahordes just before War Room was initially released. In fact, it's half the reason I got a smartphone in the first place. I had such hopes for it, but I was greatly disappointed. It's gotten better, especially with the new version for the new editions of the game, but I really do think building it on the Unity engine was a poor choice.
  6. Since one of the upcoming stretch goals is an app for The Other Side (and I've heard there's one coming for Malifaux too), I'd like to make a plea to Wyrd Please, please, please, do not make the mistakes Privateer Press made with War Room. My fundamental problem with War Room is that it's built on Unity engine, which is a great game engine, but a poor choice for a utility app. It's very resource intensive, which leads to high battery usage. With the first-generation of War Room, I literally could not finish a game using it to track damage. Also, the higher requirements mean lower-end phones can't use it. War Room's user interface is very aesthetically pleasing, but can be a real pain in the neck, especially when using it to track damage. The damage tracking isn't an issue for TOS, but might be for Malifaux. For two examples of what I feel are a mobile list builder done right, check out Infinity Army Mobile and Guild Ball Manager. (Edit: Crew Faux is very good as well.) Apologies for the rant, but I work in software development, and poor UI is something of a pet peeve of mine.
  7. I sat down and did the math on what you get in terms of points for the Champion & Commander levels for each faction. Thought it might be of interest to people: King's Empire Commander: Charles Edmonton, +25 scrip Squad: Royal Rifle Corps, cost 9 scrip Squad: Royal Rifle Corps, cost 9 scrip Squad: Infiltrators, cost 5 scrip Total: 23 scrip (2 to spare) Commander addons: Commander: Margaret Belle, +25 scrip Titan: King's Hand, cost 8 scrip Squad: Field Intelligence Corps, cost 7 scrip Abyssinia Commander: Prince Unathi, +25 Scrip Squad: Crow Runners, cost 6 scrip Squad: Mehal Sefari, cost 9 scrip Squad: Mehal Sefari, cost 9 scrip Total: 24 scrip (1 to spare) Commander addons: Commander: The Lord of Steel, +25 scrip Titan: Dreadnought, cost 8 scrip Squad: Basotho Cavalry, cost 5 scrip Gibbering Hordes Commander: The Stormsiren, +25 scrip Squad: Striped Skulkers, cost 7 scrip Squad: Striped Skulkers, cost 7 scrip Squad: Karkinoi, cost 8 scrip Total: 22 scrip (3 to spare) Commander addons: Commander: The Frenzy, +25 scrip Titan: Alpha Crawler, cost 8 scrip Squad: Armored Whelks, cost 7 scrip Cult of the Burning Man Commander: Adeodatos, +25 scrip Squad: The Warped, cost 9 scrip Squad: The Warped, cost 9 scrip Squad: Stalking Portals, cost 3 scrip Total: 21 scrip (4 to spare) Commander addons: Commander: Fenton Brahms, +25 scrip Titan: Goryshche, cost 8 scrip Squad: Doomseekers, cost 7 scrip
  8. All of the factions look pretty sweet, don't they? About the only one I'm not seriously considering is Cult of the Burning Man, and that's because I'm not a huge fan of body horror. Plus they have the feel so far of being the "For teh evulz" faction, which I don't like. But we shall see.
  9. Of the four commander fireteams we've seen thus far, three of them have been 50mm fireteams. The exception is Prince Unathi, who's a 40mm fireteam. Is this going to be a constant, commanders being on a fireteam larger than 30mm? I know everything's still subject to change this far out, but I'm curious.
  10. I'm liking the Gibbering Hordes more and more with each reveal. I've always wanted to try playing a horde army, but have always been put off by the sheer number of models I'd have to paint. But with the GH's Endless Numbers ability, I don't need more models, I just reuse the dead ones.
  11. Granted, but sacrificing those assets will cost you, tactically. And titans aren't like colossals/gargantuans, where putting one of those on the table changes the face of the game completely. It's just one really tough fireteam, when all is said and done.
  12. The impression I got from the gameplay video was that titans were kind of a big risk. They can deal a lot of damage, and it's hard to hurt one, but it only takes one solid hit. Flip the red joker for penetration, and even a strength 1 attack can kill the king's hand. It's called a "golden BB" - one lucky shot in the right place can down them.
  13. I like the idea of pre-assembled models, especially given the level of detail Wyrd likes to put into their models. I've got two models in my Malifaux collection that are missing bits due to accidents during assembly, so skipping that step is a big plus. My hands aren't as steady as they once were, so gluing tiny bits together is really frustrating. Plus, it helps get people into the hobby a bit quicker. Being able to pull your faction off the shelf and play as soon as you open the box, skipping the sometimes laborious process of assembling all your models... Recently I saw a first-time 40k player open his new army box, look at all the sprues inside, and say "F*ck putting all that together."

  15. I'm hoping for a nice, solid campaign that establishes The Other Side as a miniatures game, without getting too big for Wyrd to handle. There is such a thing as excess success.
  16. My daughter has a tendency to pronounce Malifaux as Mali-fux instead of Mali-faux. Kids, eh?
  17. One of the joys of working at home is that I can take my official lunch break whenever I want. So if I should happen to take my lunch when the kickstarter launches...
  18. Ah, my bad. I didn't think of them being based off a real-world military unit.
  19. The 4x6 table size is a holdover from Battlemallet and 40k. Strangely enough, my local game store owner told me there is a reason for the 4x6 play area, at least according to his GW rep. Apparently that's the standard size for a dining room table in Europe.
  20. Indeed, but I quit Warmahordes because of the larger models. Well, that and my local Press Ganger. (What I have to say about him and his wife you shouldn't say in church.) I'm still keenly interested, just put off slightly.
  21. Since nobody's linked this, I'm going to: 45 models a side is a bit much for me to paint. (I'm a terribly, terribly slow painter). Still interested, though, so you haven't lost me yet!
  22. Looking at the pictures again, and noticing that the South Wales Borderers seem to be wearing some sort of powered exoskeleton. I know there are coal mines in Wales, could they be conscripted coal miners wearing their mining gear?
  23. Yes, please! Some insight into gameplay would be appreciated.
  24. I'd be willing to lay odds we'll see them as part of the kickstarter. (5 days, 21h, 32 minutes to go...) On a divergent path, I'm wondering how 'big' a game will be. How many models are going to be on the table for a side? I'm expecting more than Malifaux, but are we talking more of a Warmahordes number, Battlemallet, more?
