  1. I am not convinced. No...effects may originate within 3" of this model except during this models activation. I suppose it come down to your interpretation of 'within'. I assume within does not include the model itself...so dampening affects those 3" but not Hoff himself. Otherwise if you look at Maintain Machines that effects constructs 'within' 6 inches and Hoff being a construct, he would therefore be able to affect himself...therefore ignoring dampening anyway...? So, for me...'within' is the distance from the base edge to the range listed, not including the model itself. This means that Hoff cannot maintain machines himself and does not give himself +1 casting with empowered for being a construct 'within' 4 inches of himself. See...'within' needs to be applied consistently, so if we say that Hoff is 'within' his own dampening field then he gets those other bonuses too. Cool by me...but I think it is wrong. Hoff does not affect Hoff, Hoff affects those 'within' range of him.
  2. Programers FTW! Lawyers are creepy... The MARKERS just sit there. Crispy critters "I love the smell of burning *insert name of model* in the morning! Usually Gremlins at the moment
  3. Doesn't it say something about except during his activation...so if he is the origin of the effect cast during his activation wouldn't it remain in play until the resolve effects phase? I am also pretty sure that auras and pulses do not effect the model making them. edit Just Checked...yes, the card says Dampening -blah,blah- 'except during this models activation'. So Hoffamn 'borrows' the ability and uses it then it remains around until the resolve effects phase. If the said mechanical friend tried to use it while parked next to the Hoff then it would be dampened. As for someone with an active aura moving into range (3 inches), then yes, I assume it would stop working (no time issue...just distance as you said). In saying that if the source remained outside the 3 inches the aura may still extend to withing the Hoff's bubble (overlap). Hope that helped.
  4. just wait until someone jams an LED in one to make their models glow...how cool would that be? "Oh yeh, if the Stiched Togethers base is glowing then creepy fog is ON"
  5. Yeh, now to buy about 150 of them and post them back through time. Sigh. I like the look of these and am regretting not ordering some with the dark debts set.
  6. See? I am liking this. The Huggy is just so freaky other-worldly and you have done a nice job. I think, for me, I will do the mouth all glistening and fleshy like a Lampray Eel. Thanks for showing that this crew can look good, I was getting scared from all the bagging. Between this and JMgrahams page I am feeling much better. I really do like that freaky blue/green you have going on there.8-)
  7. Thanks guys (look at me being busy at work). I am having a ton of fun with this project. And a game is definatly on the cards, OSOI...you'll just have to pick a table...I have about 4 going (that are then interchangable to make BAZILLIONS...gawn I need Borderlands 2...) Need to make an Armand model now...that quote is priceless... The Bird Cage was also a combination theater, saloon, gambling parlor and brothel that operated from 1881 to 1889 in Tombstone, Arizona during the height of the silver boom. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bird_Cage_Theatre But with reference to the film it just became so much more...well...Malifaux (now a synonym of 'not quite right')
  8. Hoorah! Someone is reading this It was like a therapy writing session, the debrief at the end of the night. Anyway, another slow night, I am very tired and unmotivated at the moment, so it was short bursts between this and replaying bits of Borderlands. Need to get this down town table finished before number 2 arrives Tonight was detailing the outside and fitting the doors, which are removable. The inside emergency exit... And over all progress, along with some of my daughters artwork in the background Really just the back wall to black and detail then the furniture (casino tables and a wet bar). Thanks again for all those looking!
  9. So, the curtains are in...just a little tidying up to do once the glue dries and the pins are removed. So the gaps ended up being just over 50mm...so everyone can navigate their way through the stage area. You may also be able to make out the two black door frames on either side of the stage. These are going to be the fire exits. They are just over 30mm, so will allow little things to escape the theatre in case of large model invasion. Then there is the front..with magnetic sign. This makes it easy to transport and also means if it takes a knock it will not snap off or get damaged. So, there we have it so far...The Bird Cage, kind of the 'low rent' version of The Star. Still much to do, but coming along.
  10. Any chance you have a camera with a macro lens? Could we get some shots to compare with what we have and maybe provide feedback as to weather what you have is 'normal' (and therefore reinforce you view) or if you have defiantly received a bad batch (so then you can perhaps arrange a replacement and restore faith). I am very interested as I ordered the whole dark debts and never born models set and would like to know what I am looking (or even sniffing) for. I love my metal miniatures, but am keeping an open mind about the plastics.
  11. You know what, I may do just that. Will rustle up some others too... Any ideas on factions that are under-represented yet? Guessing there is a ton of Guild and Neverborn?
  12. Slow night tonight... I have prepared the stage curtains, these will be cut out and sprayed black on the back. Even the side curtains are large enough to hide behind. The idea being that from the casino / audience floor you won't see back stage head on. The side curtains and the main curtain will be at least 40mm apart, just enough to block bigger models but still let most medium to small models through. The front is roughly done, still a main sign to add and blacking out the interior frames of the windows...but mostly done. This has been built to slide onto the front and can be removed for showy/display purposes. When attached it looks something like this... With interior lighting.. And a quick over head to show the over all plan. I still need to finish the outer walls, which will have more of the stone on the lower parts and old style show posters all around. Then, after all that is done I need to add the gantry over the curtain for 30mm fights above the stage, a fire exit and a ton of furniture and a wet bar. Then the rest of down town, including the park, general store and guild office. Don't know what else I need...? A clinic? Thanks again for looking in!
  13. Need a hand? Happy to help out Maybe get to know more of the community up north/east.
  14. OUTSTANDING! You have just covered not only step one in my quest but step two and three! Now to contact local henchmen and see if we can get this ON! Thank you
  15. Nekima. 15 foot tall, devil woman in a short skirt. I started with ressers but bought her model just to paint.
  16. Huge fan. Great work! Wish I had a workshop and crew of handymen! Superb!
  17. Part 2 Downtown Malifaux PROGRESS! Ok, so the experimental down town buildings I made (see earlier in the post) are good, but need some work. I have been completely sidetracked, however, by the next building in the set...the Theater / Casino cabaret place thingy (very specific). It is such a huge building that I decided to combine a few together So, first...the STAGE. This is going to be broken into two parts with a front stage, curtains and the back stage, along with back stage access (50mm+ so large set pieces...read models...can fit in here too). While only 40mm bases (and smaller) will be able to fit through/around the curtain to get back stage. The floor plan So, the bare space will be the bar and tables area, perhaps with an entrance foyer. The white area is foam used to elevate the stage supports. I will make the stage climbable terrain, but don't really want steps leading up to it. Honestly, we don't want to encourage the clients from getting up there with the girls. Out the back you can see where I have cut out the steps for the back stage entrance. Really it would be a ramp, but I don't like slopped surfaces in my terrain... Flooring Remember this stuff? I am using this as the flooring. Although thin if you give it enough support to avoid sagging (so small span) it works wonders. However I am cheap and don't want to varnish it and still need a better texture. I want old floor boards...so out came INSTANT COFFEE! I lightly wet the wood with a sponge before sprinkling some instant coffee over it. Using a spoon I then shifted and crushed it a little further before blotting (dabbing) the whole lot with damp paper towel (or tissues). I then left this to dry overnight. The next morning I gave it a wipe with a plastic scourer to remove the excess and started on the next part...the boards. Black pen, ruler and a little time. Use a ball point because the dried coffee will kill a felt tip. The ball point pen did need constant wiping on a scrap piece of paper to remove coffee build up. I like large sheets as it is much easier to work with rather than fiddly individual slats. Just cut to size and glue (with pins in place to hold it all down as the wood does curve and bow when wet). This is where I am up to. While this is drying I am prepping the walls. These will be balsa wood too with colour printed wall paper patterns glued on. Updates to follow. Thanks! End of day update Not glued in yet...but ready to go once I work out the floor...I'm thinking bright and nasty.
  18. Interesting stuff. I will defiantly try some of these out. Cheers.
  19. Alrighty then, I sometimes have the case where I have 4 people playing at once and although it is a ton of fun having so many strategies and schemes flying around I have been knocking around the idea of Malifaux Doubles. Different to a brawl with two masters this would be two players with two crews working together to achieve a common goal while blocking a similar two player / crew team. I figure someone else out there is trying it or has tried it and we can pool ideas and results/problems 8-) So, thoughts? (this is a random collection of ideas and questions, please pull it apart) Terms: Team - the two players working together to achieve more VP than the other team. Crew - the models purchased by a player in the same manner as a regular game. Player - an individual participating in this crazy game. Schemes and strategies: How many of each? I was thinking of: 1 SHARED strategy for the whole game 1 Individual strategy for each team 1 Scheme per player Obviously the scheme chosen by a player must be achieved by that player and refers to them their crew and their deployment area. E.g. This means that is you are trying to achieve a kill total your team mate may soften up the target but a member of your crew must deliver the killing blow (suddenly cheating down an attack flip and letting a model die NOW is much more tactical). Crews: As always each player may take one Master/Henchman (or both) from a faction and buy models from that masters faction according to all rules and restrictions as usual. Do we allow two players on the same team to choose different factions? I mean, in the fluff you sometimes have different factions teaming up for a valid reason...or is this going to be broken...maybe it just needs testing. Either way unique names models are still one per team, regardless. Deployment: Each player flips a card and then chooses a corner with highest picking first and lowest picking last (or being forced into a corner due to it being the last one). This is opposed to the team flipping a card and choosing a side. I like the corners because sometimes you end up split up diagonally and gives the team who won the flip more tactical choices about how they want to manipulate the game. This obviously then uses corner deployment as in the Rules Manual. Initiative: would be flipped as a team. Team with the highest card chooses which of their players will go first. The opposing team would then get to activate one player/model before going back to the team that won the initiative and ending with the last player from the team who lost the initiative. So...initiative flip Team A Wins Team A activates player 1 Team B activates player 1 Team A activates player 2 Team B activates player 2 Whoever is player 1 and player 2 on each team can change from turn to turn. Activations: Obviously you would only be able to activate models from your crew NOT models from your TEAM (i.e. you cannot activate a model belonging to your team mates crew). Interactions: This is where is gets squishy...do we allow models on the same team but from different crews to be friendly to each other (for the purpose of effects)? I think this would be a YES if the players have crews from the same faction...but it could get...messy...if we allow cross faction combos. Ok, that's a start, by no means all done Ready? Aim. FIRE!:slap:
  20. Cool, there are a names in the game I have been wondering about. Phonetically Malifaux has been pronounced locally as M for moon a for apple l for lizard e as in bucket f for fish then the aux makes oe as is toe so m - a - l - eh - f - oe Coppelius? Is it cop-eh-l-ee-us? Silurid? Sil - er - id or sil - u - r - id? Lelu Lee - loo? L - e (as in egg) - loo? Lilitu? Arcanists? Is it are - can - ists? Kaeris K - ay - ris? K - e (as in egg again) - ris? Crooligan K - r - oo (like in pool) - ligan (like hooligan?) or is it C like in pencil? Sorry, probably sound like a yokel but these are just a few that we have wondered about.
  21. I'm loving this model more and more as I see it 'done up'. I like the colours and the over all effect. Any chance of a link to a GOOD LED tutorial?
  22. Hmmmm...good question. I suppose that would also stop models with the HUNTER ability that allows them to shoot 5 inches through obscuring...as they STILL can't shoot entirely through the base. Same deal...last night I think my Female Gunsmith wouldn't have copped two massive shots from Rami. Mind you he suffered Dumb luck trigger twice and killed himself...gunsmith survived thanks to Hard to Kill...LOL
