  1. I'll write something along the lines of what I wrote on another Lynch thread. I hope it helps you out. the things that matter here are: Which faction are you running Lynch with? Are you taking the Hungering Darkness? to answer 1, you have 2 choices. I like taking Lynch as a NB master in brawls, and 10T in scraps, for the sake of having a bunch of options. 10T actually seems to give Lynch's particular playstyle a bit more of a boost than NB, since the whole Brilliance thing is new to NB entirely. In Brawls, you have the option of taking a second master, so you can make use of what they've got while keeping Lynch's standard options with you. to answer 2, one must think about the other hand of query 1: scheme options. the NB scheme are much more easily attained than the 10T schemes, in my humble opinion. But what ABOUT question 2? Well, this is not about model v model or scheme v scheme, but model v scheme. HD is AMAZING. you will want to take him most of the time. However, Lynch's second scheme, Read 'Em And (Weep), which cannot be taken if you start with the Darkness out, is easy enough to pull off due to Lynch's card control. And after all, you need VP to win. That said, you could go 10T, take HD, and use the general schemes to whatever avail you want, so it really does depend on your playstyle there. I suggest, if you want to branch out for Scraps, to buy Misaki's box set and use a Torakage or 2. They are quite nice. I also suggest getting Mei Feng's box for Kang in lieu of Graves; although Kang costs 1 more, it is quite possibly more worth it IMO. Happy Gambling! haha ~Lil Kalki
  2. I love using Lynch. I run Neverborn most of the time but as of late I've been playing Ten Thunders, so Lynch is right there in the middle of all of the action from my end of the board, quite often. Personally, I like more to use Lynch as a Neverborn master in Brawls, and as a Ten Thunder master in Scraps, due to the amount of choices given to the card shark. I generally enjoy pitting him alongside Pandora in the case of a Brawl, because his models (namely the Beckoners, HD, Mr. Tannen, and occasionally the Illumnated) will cause more than a few Wp duels. I might consider dropping Mr. Graves from time to time in lieu of ranged hitters like Tuco, or possibly a merc of some sort (being someone who doesn't use mercs outside of Jack Daw and Oiran, I'm not sure on which one being the *right* call), if I were you. Graves' lack of Melee Expert makes him a fairly worrisome mark for Kill Protege in a case where that applies. In Scraps, I find that the mobility factor of the Thunders is exactly what Lynch needs. an overall Wk/Cg of 5/8 is *okay* most of the time, but to optimize it, I love adding some Torakage to the mix. Tannen will greatly benefit from this, being dual-faction. Don't forget that you have a whole faction to choose from, including dual-faction models. I like Kang in place of Graves, because Kang is resilient to no end, and also is a beast in Melee (plus he has a ranged attack... If you want it at the time). Honestly, beyond Kang or the Tora-swap enabling the Tannenbomb, there isn't much of a discrepancy between the two factions when you call them. That said, going Neverborn allows you Kidnap and Reclaim Malifaux, both of which are pretty simple schemes, while going 10t means you have Infiltrate Malifaux (difficult as you don't often have many dual-faction models in the Lynch mob) or Save Face (which is very much situational). I often prefer the Neverborn schemes to the 10T schemes though I prefer the 10T models to the Neverborn selections for Lynch. It's all up to your preference. By that token, there *is* one more choice to make. That is, whether you start with HD or not. HD has so many uses but the scheme you may take when you have him to start is not nearly as easy to take as the one you may take without him. Spread the Light is difficult especially against swarms of models (hello, Hamelin!), and while it is optimal if you know how to control a crowd well enough, I'd it's more rooted around Slaughter than crowd control. Read 'Em And (Weep), on the other hand, is great if you want to be proficient in hand-sculpting. It's a great scheme if you're playing with Stitched Togethers or want to make extensive use of Dead Man's Hand, and you still have the scheme even if you bring HD in later on (which, with Depleted, is a good bet). However, again, the thing that matters here is if you value starting HD over having Read 'Em And (Weep). There is a lovely tactica on the board pertaining to Mr. Lynch; I suggest you read it (and weep? XD). It's quite thorough. Hope this helps a bit! ~Lil Kalki
  3. So in such a case, if I choose to take the Bridle (cost 1) and the Badge (cost 2), my maximum starting cache (excluding hiring models) is going to be no greater than 3. If this were in a 35ss game, could i hire only 30ss of models and have a full cache of 8 (3 starting + 5 unused), or would it be maxed at 5 (6 starting - permanent 3 for relics + 5 unused)? I think this might be the last question I have, but I'll figure out if I have more. Thanks! ~Lil Kalki EDIT: I am not sure if i answered my own question or not. i should rephrase it. it's a 30 stone game. i hire 25 of models and the two aforementioned relics costing 3ss from cache. is mccabe's pool maxed at 5 or 8 prior to the very start of the encounter?
  4. so, to be sure, if i am playing a 30 ss game and i hire 25 ss of models with mccabe (initial cache 6), can i spend 11ss on all relics or is it only from his pool? ~Lil Kalki
  5. Okay, so, I have a few questions concerning McCabe and his relics (I don't have his cards or Book 4 on hand): 1. Can McCabe add relics by spending stones used for hiring models? 2. Is there a limit to how many relics McCabe can carry? If so, what is it? Thank you. ~Lil Kalki
  6. I am very pleased with this idea. Any thoughts on implementing a leveling system? I'd think something akin to slaughter-points as exp, and at a certain amount of points, the character gains a level and gets either +2, +3-1, or even +3 to stats. This would help to compensate against masters or avatars if the GM wanted such enemies in the Encounters. I'd love to play this, especially if there were a level-up system like that in there, and possibly classes? All in all, I find this very intriguing and definitely worth looking into further. ~Lil Kalki
  7. I'd say that speed issue is debatable. If you're running 'Dora, you may as well make as much use of Fading MEmories as possible to ensure she does keep up with Collodi (at least marginally well). It's not a terribly difficult operation if at all, methinks, with that ability in mind. ~Lil Kalki
  8. That sounds like it was a fantastic event. Congratulations on the title! ~Lil Kalki
  9. For natural terrain, I second Patchwork's suggestion for sure. As for buildings, I'm not sure what to say. unpainted terrain can be painted, even in a rudimentary fashion, and work just fine. If you want to put in very little effort in buildings besides paying, you may have to go big on the purchase, or otherwise go unpainted... Some companies might be rather steep with painted terrain (although to be honest, this isn't quite my area of expertise). Best of luck! ~Lil Kalki
  10. This deck looks to be shaping up as nicely as (if not nicer than) the previous decks, from what I've seen! Kudos to the artist and to Walpurgis! ~Lil Kalki
  11. I'm also thinking Gary Busey as McMourning. Big smile, clinically insane? Sounds familiar! ~Lil Kalki
  12. Can we just say that the Hungering Darkness is a wonderful "pound-for-pound" *Master*? He's terribly resilient (he keeps coming back!) and terribly offensive (his attacks are quite scary, i mean); he comes with 2 soulstones (although that's for all Masters, so...) and even comes with another Master attached to it! All silliness aside, because technically HD isn't a master and comes for 0 stones, I suggest that HD wins, hands down, even considering the hiring restrictions (that is, only one Master can hire it). ~Lil Kalki
  13. So, I did a bit of math in my head with stat cards on the table, so please correct me if my math is off, but here are my totals thus far: Masters: 6 (voiding LCB as a separate Master makes 5 - he is counted for model purposes) (3 on the way, making 9 total models) 0ss, counting new models - 0 sans [*] [*]Henchmen: 1 8ss [*] [*]Totems: 6 (including HD) (4 on the way, making 10 total models) 20ss, counting new models - 11 sans [*] [*]Avatars: 3 (1 for showcasing and not affiliated with any of my Masters, and another is aCandy, which is worth 0ss) (1 on the way, making 4 total models) 6ss, counting the new model and voiding aCandy - 4 sans [*] [*]Guild Minions: 3 (2 on the way, making 5 total models) 26ss, counting new models - 12 sans [*] [*]Ressurectionist Minions: 0 (5 on the way, making 5 total models) 27ss, counting new models - 0 sans [*] [*]Arcanist Minions: 2 15 ss [*] [*]Neverborn Minions: 25 (4 on the way, making 29 total models) 141ss, counting new models -121 sans [*] [*]Outcast Minions: 1 9ss [*] [*]Ten Thunders Minions: 7 (1 on the way, making 8 total models) 38ss, counting new models - 32 sans [*] [*]Dual-faction Minions (X/10T): 9 (11 on the way, making 20 total models) 98ss, counting new models - 58 sans [*] [*]Total models: 64 (29 on the way, making 92 total models overall) Total SS with new models: 388ss Total SS sans new models: 270ss This seems a bit low-curve, to be sure, but at the least, I've been specializing in Neverborn and Ten Thunders (as can be discerned) so it's all good. ~Lil Kalki
  14. Thank you for your very constructive response, ThePandaDirector! Actually, I had to space out my paragraphs when moving this from my Word file, so the "more than one way through the Breach" bit being attached to the earlier paragraph was a typographical error. Thank you for catching that. ~Lil Kalki
  15. I am simply in awe of this work. Many thanks for the tutorial and kudos to you for taking the time and effort to do what you've done here. ~Lil Kalki
  16. This. I, personally, have such difficult luck trying to best Perdita with Pandora, due to things like See the Unseen and her shooting overall, which greatly hinders a Neverborn crew of most any type. It's nothing too big, but one of these days I would relish beating a Perdita player with a Pandora crew haha OT: I do hope that the new Pandy players learn about the movement shenanigans, or at least one does and the Pandy players pool their knowledge together and help each other out; that's the key to success in terms of gaining new players: commonality, familiarity, and fledgling friendships. ~Lil Kalki
  17. I have just seen a video dating to 1940's Russia, which details the reanimation of a dog's body (in whole and in literal parts). For those who wish to see this video, be warned as it is rather disturbing, and details what can be considered cruelty to animals. I do not endorse such things, take note; I just want to gauge people's thoughts on the matter. The video link extension for YouTube is here: /watch?v=HkBiflN1dF4 Allegedly this was a real, and successful experiment. Others were able to replicate results and modify the experiments to end up with two-headed dogs, an ape with the body of another ape, and that's about where the experiments ended, because there were not enough willing humans for the experiments. The ape story is here, if anyone wishes to read it: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/1263758.stm Now, credibility aside, my main query is this: I am wondering if the creator(s) of Dr. Douglas McMourning as a character looked into this video at all when conceptualizing him. Does McMourning go beyond the fantasy of Dr. Frankenstein? I would like to know, and I'd hope that this thread makes others wonder as well. ~Lil Kalki P.S. - If this is the wrong board for this, my apologies, and could someone please move this thread to a more appropriate board if so? Thank you kindly in advance.
  18. Actually, I've been brooding on it for about 2 days (since I'd conceptualized Josiah's stats) and I'm thinking perhaps a blend of different Minions to allow for versatility: significant Minions with high Wk but low combat skill (probably average resilience though), and insignificant Minions with card-filtering tricks and a higher combat output than the aforementioned Minions, but low Wk (not necessarily Cg though) and average resilience, like the other Minions. Actually now that this is in mind, I had another idea regarding some Minions. How can someone template a model normally friendly to you counting as an enemy model (but is still controlled by you)? Because I like the idea of a mental coercion, forcing "truces" (actually enslavement?) between Josiah and enemies. Beyond that, I'm also thinking, since Josiah is dual-factioned, perhaps giving him 2 Totems for use at once might be cool. Names presently include Headless Daniel (for the Rezzer-based Totem - it would have Affinity [Josiah Kalk]), Lizbeth (as a friendly, "big -impact" dual-faction model) The Unwilling (for combat-oriented Minions), and The Unwelcome (for the speedy Minions). I still need, as the case presently stands, ideas for: the Neverborn-based Totem additional ideas in general I'm still trying to wrap my head around wording the ability which will allow the Unwilling and the Unwelcome to be enemy models at times. I don't know how Mindless Zombies are worded, but I don't want it to be much or exactly like that. I am thinking: Coerced: This model is treated as an enemy model when hired by Josiah Kalk, but is still controlled by Josiah Kalk's controller. When this model is killed or sacrificed, it is treated as a model friendly to Josiah Kalk for VP purposes. In this way, it keeps Slaughter shenanigans from being prevalent, and (I think) still allows it to do what I want for the sake of fluff and mechanics. What say you, brdparker?
  19. I love this. I am really pleased that someone has finally written up a Lynch Tactica. Something that I thought to add to mention (before reading the entire thing - I almost wrote too soon) was that The Illuminated are great for Feast or Famine, as well as Consume Brilliance, due to their Regen 1. Since you put that down under the Illuminated's description, I am pleased. However, if I may make a small suggestion, perhaps making slight addendum to that end under the Hungering Darkness's description might help reinforce that statement, for use in a bind. Beyond that (obviously optional) suggestion, overall a fantastic read. Kudos! ~Lil Kalki
  20. I think back to all the games I've had with a certain friend of mine, and I think the very most fun I've had when playing against a crew of his was a crew he called "Team Boom!". I believe it was usable in either Scrap or Brawl level, and consisted of Sonnia, Perdita, a ton of Witchling Stalkers, Papa Loco, and Fire Gamin (although I don't recall how he was permitted Gamin... must have been some affinity with Sonnia?). It was fun to play against, even considering I was using a Neverborn crew against it haha As for my favorite model to use... I cannot think of a time where I wouldn't want to use Torakage in a 10T crew of my own design. They are such good utility, and fun to think of in-game, fluffwise. ~Lil Kalki
  21. Hey all, It was suggested, after the concept of stat cards for the characters conceptualized in the "If you were in Malifaux" thread was thought up, that another thread be made for the means of sharing stat ideas, critiquing the cards, and finalizing tweaks (and who knows, maybe even making proxies for casual games with friends? That might merit a thread in Miniature Matters haha). So, here I am starting said thread, beginning with the stat card for Josiah Kalk, my character. Sorry if the stat cards are a bit... huge. XD Feel free to expand on this! If you were in Malifaux, what would your story be, and how would it reflect in your stats? ~Lil Kalki EDIT: text based stats are cool too. I should have originally posted mine in a textual format too, so here it is: Josiah Kalk (Resurrectionist/Neverborn Dual Faction, Master, Cache 3, 30mm base) Wk/Cg – 4/- C/M Ht – 2 Wp – 6 Ca – 6M Df – 5 Wd – 9 Trauma (Weapon 1) Rg – Ranged 3” Cb – 6C Dg – 2/4/6 Persuasion (Weapon 2) Rg – Ranged 12” Cb – 5 Dg – 1/2B/4B Abilities: Arcane Reservoir: Increase this model’s Crew’s maximum hand size by 1 while this model is in play. Gunfighter “Strutting My Stuff”: This model Flips a card whenever it performs a Walk action. This model cannot become Paralyzed. Two-Step: When this model uses its Wk it can add either suit to its Flip, but not both. Triggers: Ca (MR) Megrim (Mind Wipe): After a model fails to resist this spell, that model suffers 1 wound. Cb (CR) Migraine (Trauma): After hitting target model with this weapon, kill target model unless target discards 2 Control Cards or 2 Soulstones. Only models with the Use Soulstones ability may discard Soulstones. If target does, continue the Strike as normal. Df © A Little Help, Here?: After attacker makes a Strike against this model, another target enemy model engaged with this model makes a Strike controlled by you using one of its basic melee weapons. Cb/Wk (CM) Follow the Leader (Persuasion): P4. After this model completes its action, Push all enemy models not engaged with this model half their Wk in a single direction. Wp (M) Smart-Ass: After this model successfully resists a spell, this model makes a Persuasion Strike against the caster, ignoring LoS. Actions: (+2) Agile: This model may declare 2 additional Walk actions during its Activation. (+1) Ranged Expert (-1) Slow (0) Know-It-All: This model’s Controller looks at the top card of his or her Fate Deck, then puts it back on top of his or her Fate Deck. (1) Contemplation: This model makes three Healing Flips, but heals only half the total wounds that would be healed. If the Red Joker is flipped, ignore all other flips and heal this model fully. If the Black Joker is flipped, this model suffers that many wounds instead. This action may not be taken if this model is engaged with one or more enemy models. Spells: Mind Wipe (CC: 9M / Rst: Wp / Rg: P4) Before making a model can make a Resist Flip, push this model up to 8” away, ignoring terrain and other models. Models losing their Resist Flip get [-][-] when targeting this model.
  22. Since Masters inherently cost 0 Soulstones, would you want to make "Traditional Models" say (for its first clause): "Sacrifice any number of Kami counters to summon a copy of another non-Master model within 6” with a soulstone cost equal to the number of Kami counters sacrificed." ? Something tells me that was your intended effect and as such, we wouldn't want abuse like that. That, or you could make Masters cost 10 kami counters to make? I'm not sure haha ~Lil Kalki NINJA-EDIT: I also have made Josiah Kalk's stat card, for whoever is interested. However, I do agree with Dgraz that another thread should be made for the supplemental stat cards to your personal Malifaux backstories, complete with critique and tweaking. As such, I will make that thread and post a link here in the next few minutes. Expect another edit from this post quite soon. EDITEDITEDITED....XD: the link is here: http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?38252-If-you-were-in-Malifaux-supplemental-stat-cards! I suggest still writing your backstories here, as that's what this thread was made for, but if you feel up to the challenge, try your hand at creating stats for your character!
  23. To a degree, I agree with Adran. However, as someone who started this game with a mile-long losing streak (which, playing pre-errata-Hamelin out of the box, was and is something I joke around with to my chums even now), take it from me when I tell you this: Some people enjoy playing entirely new games on hard mode, and those are the people who beat those playing normal mode to a pulp. And that isn't a bad thing, since it's a game and all in good fun, after all. Levi has been said to be among the hardest Masters to begin one's Malifaux days with, but even so, learning the ropes with a Master with a high learning curve can yield good results once you know how to play with said Master, and even once you learn to play in general. And, don't you know, you learn things more often from loss than victory, so if you're on a mile-long losing streak like me in my Hamelin days, don't fret! You'll get there. My advice to you? By all means, if you think Levi is cool, keep on using him. If you think you need to expand your horizons but want to keep it somewhat Levi-centric, as Adran said there are 2 routes to take (I won't reiterate too far - because Adran put it very well - but Constructs and Undead are your go-to model types). If you want to push yourself away from Leveticus completely, there are a good number of other paths you can take to learn the ropes. It really is all based on how you want to play your game. I hope this helped a bit. ~Lil Kalki
  24. I kinda want to see a Lady J bust, since that seems quite cool. That or a Ramos/Seamus bust, just because of pure badassery. ~Lil Kalki
  25. Hey, I have been told conflicting things re: Pandora's interaction with Construct models. One source tells me that Pandora allows Constructs to be affected by WP-duels and Terrifying. Another source says the opposite. What is true here, and why? Thank you. ~Lil Kalki EDIT: Just found part of my answer: Constructs are susceptible to Morale Duels, but not those caused by Terrifying. The only thing I need an answer for now is does Anathema get around that? In other words, does Anathema make Constructs have to take Morale Duels?
