    Nicodem - Post Nerf

Izamu with Decaying Aura is a regular in my King Nico list. His built in to damage and Necrotic King means the only way to get him to negative flips for damage is to tie vs hard/impossible to wound. It's glorious. He'll pretty much shred anything (Masters/henchmen/whatever) that doesn't have armor 2+ or some variation on armor.

Well that's vile. It's so exciting to know he has another upgrade (along with Their Last Breath) that can be so ruthlessly exploited by the enemy crew. At least post nerf Sandeep will be relatively easier to murder in retaliation? (assuming you have things in play that can do such a thing) Speaking of... I've found that running "Necrotic King Nico" and a passel of undead is really effective. It won't run the board like drowning the enemy in summons will, but it's plenty functional.

    Zipp unbury without a bayou?

If that were the wording, I agree none of this would be here. Just because it's possible to come up with a different (admittedly better) wording, doesn't mean the existing wording is necessarily "wrong". We're not even really arguing the wording. We're arguing how broad "do not physically fit in the specified location" is.

In your scenario, are new players rifling through a gaining grounds or some other document as they play? That feels just as clunky as a deck honestly, but I guess millage may vary or you're dealing with a brand new meta. Easy fix though. Just index the table as "red 1: Break Through black 1: Power ritual". Now you're good for up to 27 schemes if you put both jokers on the same scheme.

    Zipp unbury without a bayou?

"for any reason" is not part of the rules though. That "unbury back in the deployment zone" part of the unbury rules is only for when the model does not "physically fit in the specified location". That's not your problem here. Zipp is stuck buried till the end of the game, and then counted as dead. (I guess unless you cobble up a bayou gremlin from a crier or something)

    Zipp unbury without a bayou?

"If the model does not physically fit in the specified location, do x" You need a specified location for that statement to possibly be true. Because there is no bayou gremlin in play, you don't have a specified location. You don't even get to the "not fit into" part. It would be like being asked to park a car next to your dog's sense of humor. Your problem is *not* that the car is too big...

You kinda have to either fully commit to summoning, or basically give up on his summons surviving. There's a case to be made for "Love Thy Master" and using a summoned model as a very elaborate short-ranged nuke, but it really limits his list of viable summons (to basically punks, kentauroi, and appropriate students).

    Third Edition is Coming!!

I was confused, and then I went and checked, no numbers. To be fair, we can't see the bottom part of the card either, maybe someone who was at GenCon handling the cards could weigh in as to if there were numbers or not and the photos just don't have them?
  9. The language here totally tripped me up. Adran has it right, but I wanted to clarify because this might come up in your near future. Terrifying goes off when you end a walk action in the models engagement range. So using Hungering Darkness's Heed my Voice and just walking the enemy model into your engagement range absolutely causes a terror check. Having a Beckoner use her Lure ability will instead "Move target model it's Wk". That is not a walk action, so there's be no terrifying check.

The challenge to an update like this is that a lot of things you're used to don't mean quite the same thing they used to mean. My play group had a rather substantial adjustment period where we had to double check a LOT of rules we thought we knew because we were remembering the 1st edition rules rather then the correct m2e ones. Don't assume that just because the demo was "murder mode" means everything is different now. You will still have a crew of models, they will still alternate activation with your opponent, you will still be attempting to score points via completing objectives that may or may not include murder. Wait till you get this thing on the table before you start deciding "it's a major overhaul".

    Zoraida, Gremlins or Neverborn

Zoraida and the Lucky Emissary play very well together also. Not only is Zoraida's conflux upgrade fantastic, but the Emissary's ability tp paralyze an already slow model works *perfectly* with the voodoo doll. I would agree with Tickle Monster though, you really want to make sure to bring a real beater or two to take care of or at least delay the enemy master. For Gremlins I would look at most of the standard beaters (Burt, Franc, etc.), but I'd also throw Mancha Roja into consideration. He appreciates the help getting set up for charges, and can take advantage of the paralyze the rest of the crew is giving out. Mama Z is also surprisingly good at keeping him safe.

1st edition was 8 points. So there's precedent. Besides, the new strategies are pretty easy to get 1-2 points out of. 3 and 4 look to be much harder.

They might take the PP route. All the cards are available online for free in pdf form, but cards in the app still costs money.

    Third Edition is Coming!!

This happens in M2E now. Some players will define hard or soft cover depending on how much shooting they and their opponent was bringing to the table. This is one of the reasons why it's key to pin down terrain definitions with your opponent *BEFORE* you hire crews. Maybe write the terrain terms on them with sharpie? (on the bottom of course).

    next purchases

I went with Mech Infantry over steel legion for 2 reasons: 1) Price. Steel Legion is nice, but literally the most expensive unit we have, by a comfortable margin. 2) Range. The Mech Infantry Walker sports the longest range gun in the faction (one of the longest in the game I think actually).

    Third Edition is Coming!!

Remember, right now we're looking at a very incomplete view of the new edition. We have no idea how useful, or not, they will be. We can be certain they will change, much like everything we've seen so far has changed, even if only a little. Maybe they'll get some whole new thing, maybe they'll get to cheat face down. Anything is possible except we can be certain it won't stay the same.

    Third Edition is Coming!!

Adding new activations during the turn (aka summoning) will still get you activation control, just only on the turn you summoned. Depending on how fast the summons are created, this can still let you get back to playing the activation control game without wandering off into "I hire 6 stuffed piglets, they dance and sing in my deployment zone turns 1 and 2" and the equally gross "Look at all these void wretches!". It actually creates an interesting tension when you're out-activated against a summoning crew. Kill the weak and fragile summons now? Or let them live through the end of the turn for pass tokens, and try to kill them more efficiently next turn. Models like Kentauri that kill themselves over the turn actually end up sort of being the best of both worlds.

    Third Edition is Coming!!

... Hoffman literally could machine puppet enemy constructs (with no resist flip mind you) 1st edition. He also had an Alpha style 2 action called Override Edict that takes their activation for them.

    Nicodem - Post Nerf

Thing is, going all in Summoning with Nico (you spent 30ss on support henchmen in your above list) was always going to be OK post nerf. What this nerf really hurts are crews that bring maybe one of the "big 3 support henchmen" and build a more generalist crew otherwise. Those people *need* to put Love Thy Master on Nico or make the most of the rest of his card. I think your assessment of Love They Master and Undertaker is dead on though. The trigger on Undertaker especially is pretty laughable now.

    Third Edition is Coming!!

In fairness, all we know at this point is destructible terrain exists. It will depend a great deal on how they are implemented for board terrain (my suspicion is we mostly won't be knocking over houses and ripping up forests). 1st edition had a lot of interesting ideas for terrain, most of which were abandoned because they were either too random (Events) or really punishing for a certain faction/model type (indoor locations got weird). A lot of those ideas got recycled into story encounters. As to the whole "double masters" thing, like 80% of the fluff is multiple masters working together towards some common goal. I'm excited that I can consider doing that on the table, assuming it can be balanced of course. (1st edition let you do multiple masters in very large games, it was very silly and in no way balanced)
  21. You could balance it through the totem. So each Master+totem combo is about equal, but individual costs can vary.

None publicly. We only have these photos because they're being used for demos at GenCon. I assume the rest of the masters are out there, but under NDA. So even if someone had those rules/art/whatever, they shouldn't be sharing them.

    Nicodemus M3E?

That they become steadily less competitive is entirely dependent on how they are built. Let's use Nico because this is the resser forum. Even in 2E, Nico with his initial release stuff was highly competitive and remained so through 4 books. It was really book 5 that got him into full problematic mode. If he's built for the long haul (let's say he continues to buff lots of "undead" models) I could see him remaining relevant and competitive for maybe the life of 3rd edition. Or at least until some petty TO decides to ban the dead mans hand because "you should get over it, he's gone". Really, the creation of the Dead Man's Hand is an interesting step toward phasing out a master. Now when you can't play it at an event, you have someone right there in front of you to yell at, instead of just shaking your fist at Wyrd. Or totally kirk out I guess.

    Third Edition is Coming!!

Is it though? Without the placement, a crew would ball up as hard as it can and march to wherever the markers will be dropping. With the spread, it's a hard road for that style of crew. This will encourage you to run forward and present a reasonable presence across the whole center line. Then rush to an idol and punt it into the enemy half of the table, as deep as you dare. It's got an interesting tension between lots of small models so you can better cover the area and a few big models who can afford the big 3 damage hits. I think the "convert damage to vp" is an interesting angle to explore.
