  1. Today my friend, playing Gremlin factory, dropped a Skeeter right into my huddled family, stopping them all from shooting. Perdy promptly shooed it away with obey (insects have low willpower!), allowing us all to do what we wanted! Invaluable!
  2. Thanks Vodkanought, just what I was after!
  3. Hi, returning player from 1st edition here, looking forward to re-learning how to use my Lilith crew! Quick question, is there a summary sheet on this forum, or downloadable from Wyrd? I used to have a good one from 1st that listed when you could and couldn't cheat, use soulstones etc? I had a quick look in stickied threads in Rules, but to no avail. Thanks!
  4. Noob question, or at least V2 noob! I have my old Lilith core crew, with a few extras (2 Young, Lelu, lilitu), and I have just received the V2 mini rule book. How do I use my old minis? Can I buy new cards for them? Can I download them? (Legally!?) ...or do I need to buy the new box, then chop up the minis and sell the body parts to resurrectionist laboratories...? Or do I just use my existing cards, and try to figure out what applies and what doesn't? I love my old minis, and want to use them. Thanks for any advice!
  5. You have got a great attitude to the game; in keeping with it, I'm going to suggest the opposite to the above posters! I have a shelf full of games that I wanted to get into, bought the books and a strter army, and have never played, as I have no opponents. The beauty of the starter sets in Malifaux is that they are all viable 25SS crews, not neeing anything else to play (compared to a GW battleforce, which still requires purchases). Once you have snared a few buddies, THEN you can start developing your crews; until then, if you want to buy models, getting a different boxset is just as satisfying, and widens the appeal to newcomers. I have a good Lilith army(12 models), and I'm finding them a bit limited: against other Book 1 masters, they hold their own, but I can't match most Book 2+ masters. If you stick to Book 1 boxsets, you'll have a wide array of team options for 25SS games for your friends, and when they get hooked, you could even sell them your set! I am a grumpy old git who is fed up of his armies getting trounced by power creep, new over-powered models, all GW's new flyers that have wrecked my Tyranid lists etc, and I long for the simplicity of a gaming system that you can spend years playing, rather than permanently trying to catch up on the latest must-have purchases. After all, Chess hasn't felt the need for updates! Go for it, build a collection of Boxsets, have fun with them all! There will be plenty of time for upgrading when you have a circle of opponents!
  6. Nice work. Do the halves lock together? I am currently looking at flight case catches to connect my panels (3 2'x4' panels for 40k, 2 of them for Mali) What texture are your card areas? I used felt. It's so much nicer to have a soft surface to play cards on. The card pile boxes are a good idea; I'm stealing that!
  7. Sorry, to clarify: I realise Ramos himself isn't fast, but I got the impression that a table full of spiders was quite fast, especially as we use dense Terraclips set-ups; is this not the case? I foresaw having Ramos and spiders holding the backfield, and Kaeris and the gunslingers as the aggressors, the emphasis on each half of the team depending on the Strats and Schemes. Please forgive my noob questions; all I have so far is from reading PullMyFinger!
  8. I am proud of my Lilith crew, but getting tired of my big hitters running around out of breath trying to catch things to hit; everyone seems to have guns and disappearing tricks these days! My success with them isn't bad, but they are a bit one-dimensional, and as there are other Neverborn players in our group with some of the other Masters, I thought I'd jump faction. I like the look of Ramos and Kaeris; I'd like to be able to play a fast and shooty gamestyle, rather than melee-heavy; is this a good direction to head? I'm thinking of springing £60+, to get enough models to give me flexibility for different strategies; we play 35SS games; I plan to magnetise my Arachnids. How does this shopping list look, and any glaring incompatibilities or absences? Ramos boxset Kaeris boxset Mobile toolkit Rusty Alyce Does my plan work? Do these models fit the playstyle I have in mind? Thanks for any help!
  9. I've drawn my hand, it's round 3. I have a high card in my suit (masks), another in a different suit, the red joker, and a couple of middling cards. I have a tot ready to grow, Lilith is in range of the enemy master, but also some minions; the Mature is also near some other minions, and the Totem has LoS and range to plenty. ie, I have several options open to me, all valid, and enough good cards to do some, but not all of them. How do I decide what cards to use, and when? I'm not so much asking for Lilith Tactica, or even target priority advice, but more for how to make the most of my hand. Is cheating damage worth saving cards for, or is cheating the hit better? Does it vary depending on the Cb? (For example, do I not worry about cheating Lil's high Cb, but definitely use it on the Tot's grow spell) When do you tend to play a Red Joker from your hand? Always for damage? Save it for preventing a lethal injury? Are there any good habits to get into(cheat your early hard hits, or save good hands for later in the round), or any personal rules-of-thumb you stick to? Has anyone done a Tactica essay on the hand, rather than models and factions? Thanks in advance :-D
  10. Well, that was a very entertaining 1/2 hour's reading! Lovely work, sorry I'm such a latecomer! Have the Wyrdlings seen this thread? Any opinions on licensing, T-shirts etc? I am a big fan of TSOALR, and believe that GW should have syndicated it. I want a Tuesday's Lilith T-shirt! Keep up the good work, another avid follower here!
  11. Although I'm asking in relation to Lilith's spell, the questions all relate to forest and other terrain types. I will use "Ann" and "Bob, 2 fictional minions that have no tricks allowing them to ignore LoS, bend bullets etc. The forest is a 3" circle, to make the rules questions pertinent to the 3" limit on shooting through cover. 1 Ranged shooting How do Ann's attacks get affected by forest in the following examples? Does she have LoS(ie can she fire)? If so, is it obscured(:-fateto hit)? 1.1 Ann is 6" from forest, Bob is fully inside. 1.2 Ann is 6" from forest, Bob is MOSTLY inside, but Ann has an unobstructed view of a little bit of Bob's base 1.3 Ann is 6" from forest, Bob is mostly on the FAR side, with his toe in the forest; Ann can't see him directly. (I'm guessing that all of these are allowed, but obscured, due to <3" through terrain) 1.4 Ann is touching forest, can she shoot through it? At her full range? Is her shot obscured? 1.5 Can Ann be IN the forest, and avoid the obscuring penalty by moving to the close edge, or does she have to step out of the woods? Wholly, 1/2 or just a toe out? 2 Does forest affect Melee strikes? 3 Moving through forest: Ann tries to move straight across the middle of the forest; Does it cost her 6" of movement, or as she will be moving 3" plus her base width of 1.2", does it cost her 8.4"? Thanks in advance for your help!
  12. Great painting, better than mine! I too have the red Nephilim, using a red wash over Dwarf Flesh. If you have a friend who plays Perdita and the Ortegas, offer to paint their Enslaved Nephilim model, I am for my friend! In return, he is painting my Tuco (Nephilim-enslaved Ortega) Lelu and Lilitu are worth adding now, whilst you can still remember your paint choices, as they match the demonic family style well. BTW, a good English word for your earlier comment would have been "effeminate"; 'Having unsuitably feminine qualities'. It's a non-sexist or homophobic word, describing a style without necessarily implying judgemental attitudes!
  13. I don't have Book 1; in another thread, I discovered that a good choice for my Lilith crew would be Primordial Magic, but with my local stockists not having it, I can't get rules for it! It didn't get a revision in the V2 PDFs, so there is no way for me to research it either! I went to Salute 2012, a large convention in London, to try and buy a 2nd hand copy of book 1, but none of the trade stalls could help, and Ebay has failed me. Is there any legal way to read the content of book 1, or is there any chance of a re-issue? I'm expecting the latter to be a 'no' because of the revised rules, but I would love to read the background, and enjoy the art. Failing that, is there any way I can see Primordial Magic's stats, plus any other models that do not feature in the V2 PDFs?
  14. Although there are a few exceptions(of course there are, it's Malifaux!) Lilith has 'Master Of Malifaux', and can Melee attack without LoS, ie she can stab her sword through the wall.
  15. Thanks to both of you for the prompt answers! I'll be buying a Primordial Magic in that case! I have searched in vain for a copy of book 1, both on the Internet, and on the trading stalls at conventions; have I been unlucky, or is it now a rare collector's item? I have the V2 rulebook, but I want the pretty pictures and stories! Where in the rules does it say that I can choose to draw? I can see this being a useful tactic, and would like to be able to defend it in an argument. Have I missed it on P53-54, or was it FAQ'ed? Thanks again :-)
  16. Hi, I am a new Lilith player, and the following came up in a game yesterday, against a fellow newcomer. All help gratefully received, thanks! 1) How does cover apply when Perdita(Ht 2) is on the floor, more than 3" from a building(Ht 3) with no parapet, and Tuco(Ht 2) is on the flat roof, 1" from the edge? i) Tuco can see all of Perd, therefore Tuco shoots Perd with full LoS, no cover, correct? ii) Perd can't see Tuco's feet, therefore Perd shoots Tuco with partial LoS, building confers hard cover? The diagrams on page 17 don't cover shooting UP at the roof, is there a benefit to sniper-style standing near the edge to shoot downwards? __________________________ 2) Perdita starts the turn engaged with Lilith, Lelu and Lilitu. She attempts to disengage; how does this play? i) Lilith has a 2" range, plus wicked, so does damage ii) Lelu has a 2" range, but no Wicked iii) Lilitu's whip has a 4" range with Wicked. What order do the disengaging strikes happen? Does Perdita move to the 2" limit, then have Lilith&Lelu attack, then (assuming she survives) move to the 4" limit, suffer Lilitu's attack, then continue with any further movement? If Lelu and Lilith are simultaneous, who chooses their order? Lelu wants to drink the blood, Lilith wants the blood token. ________________________________ 3) My search-fu is weak, can you briefly explain how to deliberately fail a resist? I want to Transposition a Tot with a Mature, if my Totem casts successfully but low, and the Tot of Mature flip high, will it only work if I cheat with a low card from my hand, or can I just choose to fail anyway? _________________________________ 4) Can a Tot sprint twice in a turn? ie, can a (1) action spell be repeated as the second action? This gives the Tot a potential 20" range, if 2 successes both with Masks, yes? _________________________________ 5) Where is the Primordial Magic?! I have the V2 PDFs, Rising Powers and Twisting Fates, and I can't find him! Thanks for your attention, and thanks for any help you may be able to offer!
  17. If you are asking about the actual shuffling technique, I'll tell you what my Dad told me: 1) Side-by-side shuffling re-orders the pack in lumps, so now you don't know how high in the pack a certain card will appear. 2) Ripple shuffling separates adjacent cards, so you no longer know that 2 specific cards will be together. As such, you should combine the 2, i.e. do a side-to-side, then a ripple, then a S-S, ripple, etc. 3 cycles of that should do the job. Example: If you finished your turn with an awesome combo, say Red Joker Plus Mask 13, they are adjacent at the top of your discard pile. Then you shuffle. If you only ripple, they will both now be at the bottom of your draw pile. If you only S-S, they may well still be adjacent, so if one appears, there's a very good chance the other will be your next flip.
  18. My non-gaming wife who is really trying to engage with my hobby, despite hating gaming, has asked what Lilith and co will be asking for when they sit on Santa's knee! The Tots have asked for a pony, along with a big bottle of Cajun marinade sauce. Lilith, as usual, has just asked for everything, plus a pair of gardening gloves. The Mature is resigned to getting socks, but he doesn't mind, as he gets through them at such a rate. He'd like them paired, please. The Cherub wants nappy rash cream. Lilitu isn't allowed on Santa's lap, or even in the grotto, after the state the Elves were in last year after she had finished with them. Lelu just wants whatever Lilitu is having, but he doesn't think he'll get anything, as he's been a VERY bad boy. Any Christmas lists from your crews?
  19. I have another solution, which I'm sure Wyrd will approve of: A team and B team! Compared to £400 for a 1,750 point Warhammer, buying a general play crew, and another for tournaments and display purposes, doesn't hurt too much :-) (Plus a spare set of cards!)
  20. BTW, if any Wyrd team are reading, were there a Malifaux Advent Calendar in the shops or sites next November, say £10, with counters, soulstone beads, or just generic chocolate, I would buy one for each of my gaming group, ~6 people.
  21. I have the opposite problem: wife has all the outfits, but can't stand gaming! Xmas would be SOO much easier if she plyed games!
  22. Great shop, lovely people; a proper family business. Stock is variable, being a small premises, but where else in the world can you game, and look out of the window to see an iconic national monument?! (London Eye) Don't count on buying during club hours, as they use a separate shop a few doors down, but they are all nice guys, and it is worth asking, esp if you ask them to put something aside and you'll pick up later. Dark Sphere is how all gaming shops should be, and I am lucky to have it so local :-)
  23. You have to close your eyes, and take away the face. You need a rich, caricature voice! I vote: Jenette Goldstein (Vasquez in Aliens) for Perdita; Richard Burton for LCB (ominous, not slavering) Siouxsie Sioux for Lilith (Think Trust In Me and Ornaments of Gold) Charlotte Green for Lady J(Radio 4 newsreader, not a simpering dollybird) Ramona Marquez for Candy(Karen from Outnumbered)
  24. I am considering buying an ebook, such as Kindle or Kobo; are there any plans to make the Malifaux books and stat cards available for digital readers? I would happily pay full price for the books and cards if I could carry them ALL in one pocket! I believe these devices can read PDFs, so the Rules Manual and Book 1 powers are downloadable, but not the pretty pictures etc, and none of Rising Powers onwards; also, these units work better as text displays rather than showing pictures of words, as the PDF files would be. Just imagine if Wizards, GW and Wyrd all did this: that's about 10' of shelf space I'd get back! Sorry if this isn't the right sub-forum, but I couldn't see a better one!
