  1. After all of my troubles with the spindly bits that pass for arachnid legs on so many of Dr. Loveless..err, Ramos' crew, I'm seriously considering upgrading adhesive substances, like what you're pseudo-scientifically testing for us. I'd recommend a brand or type of glue, but every time I do, that brand stops working for the models I have, in some cases causing models that have been together for years to shed a limb.
  2. lol Not what I meant, but he's good with a camera, he just might do.
  3. That's not my wall, that's an Army ACU patterned note pad I was using as a backdrop to not have my pile of unpainted Reaper minis showing in the background.
  4. It's just a good thing that avatar talents and spells cannot be copied by other non-avatar models. Otherwise Lazarus would be out of control gaining avatar Ramos powers.
  5. Thanks and welcome. Here's a before and after comparison of what the GhettoJug™ has done for my photos: Without a GhettoJug™ With a GhettoJug™ And here's a pic of the GhettoJug™ Looks like I need a larger GhettoJug™ to take a picture of this GhettoJug™ properly.
  6. Thank you for the awesome milkjug ghetto porn studio™ lighting idea. I'd just emptied a jug of milk and rushed right to cleaning it out and converting it over. Between that and the macro advice, even with just my phone's camera, my pictures turned out so much better. And thank you to your plogging buddy over at Twilight Emporium who had mentioned your plog during his Malifaux city building endeavor. Oh, and P.s. I'd struggled over my lighting choices as well. My $5 desk lamp with a soothing bulb wasn't quite enough, so I'd upgraded to a combination of your magnifier with the swing armature of your second light. I find I rarely use the magnifying lens, just using its circular fluorescent soothing bulb instead.
  7. And I did see on another thread that it does, indeed, work on the hit, not the damage or wounds, as Iggy can get hit, the hitting model suffers a wound and receives a burning token, then Iggy shunts the damage over to another Woe via Martyr.
  8. Kaeris (from card) Flaming Armor: Armor +1. Models hitting this model with melee Strikes or melee Spells suffer 1 Wd and receive one Burning Token. Iggy (from Twisting Fates, p. 217) Burning Aura: Bulletproof 1. When this model is hit by a melee Strike or melee Spell, the attacker suffers 1 Wd and gains a Burning Token. Disengaging (RM, p. 48) Models cannot simply move past enemy models without risking an attack. To represent this, the moment a moving enemy model would leave a model's longest melee range, that model may interrupt the enemy's move and attempt to block it by making one melee Strike, called a disengaging Strike, targeting that enemy model. No Triggers may be declared by the blocking or moving model during this Strike. The Strike does not inflict Dg or Wd on the moving model if it hits. Instead, if the Strike is a hit, the Action of the disengaging model ends immediately. Models being Pushed, Placed, or Switched cannot be blocked when they leave an enemy model's melee range. So my question is (despite the slight wording differences in Flaming Armor and Burning Aura which may change once Iggy makes it onto store shelves) would either Kaeris or Iggy, while attempting to disengage, inflict 1 Wd to the model making the successful disengaging strike against them and give that model a burning token? Keep in mind that neither Flaming Armor, nor Burning Aura state anything about Dg being dealt or Wds inflicted, merely that they have been hit by a melee Strike (or melee Spell). Also note, that it's not likely to result in any tactical advantage, merely the side effects of taking a Wd and having a burning token.
  9. Thanks. Yeah, it's late and I was going back and forth between cards in between assembling an army of arachnids... I made the change to my entry. An added note, that to damage flips comes in handy against models like Cassandra. That is uncalled for.
  10. I'm still quite the amateur at assembling arachnids, but what I've found works for me is styrofoam. I stab the legs into it, adjusting them to how I want to pose them, then just glue the chassis to the legs. I'd gotten quite frustrated with my Steamborg Executioner the first time around trying to freehand it. After using my styrofoam method on both of my Large Steampunk Arachnids and all six of my regular ones, along with my Brass Arachnid, I felt ready to tackle the Steamborg again. Hope that helps.
  11. My area has been running at 35ss, but a lot of the lessons learned still apply at 25ss. The Vikies are great with the right support. Yeah, a lot of times that can be completely situational, depending on yours and your opponent's strategies and schemes. I've never had my Ronin fail me. They're well rounded models, with ranged attacks out to 10", Daisho that slice right through Armor and receives a to Damage flips with an extra attack from melee expert there to allow you to double walk for 8 to get into the 2" melee range for that strike. They can be sacked for 2ss in a pinch, without dropping the rest of your crew's WP through Drain Souls, which only provides 1ss per model anyways. And sacking them to bring back a Vikie is icing on the cake. Yes, you'll likely have to hold a high card of one of the right suits to get Another One to go off successfully, but it's well worth it. [Don't be discouraged if you get down to just Ronin. I was in a matchup versus Colette in which we were just slugging it out, no strats or schemes, open terrain. It came down to just two of my Ronin versus Colette, a mannequin, and a dove. My Ronin survived; Colette & Co. did not. That Colette player, a buddy of mine, still doesn't see the point of my Ronin, though.] Desperate Mercs can do a lot of interesting things for a lot of crews. I think the best thing I've seen done with them (in a non-grow list) was making use of (0) For My Family with a Pistol strike to soften up a model, then using Killjoy's (1) Blood Sacrifice to bring that bad mamma-jamma into play, well within his charge range, with the opponent having no models left to activate. My advice when using Ronin or Desperate Mercs is to make sure you have room to run two of each. If your opponent knows you need the Ronin to bring back Vikie or that you use your D. Mercs as your main way of bringing Killjoy onto the field, they'll just eliminate them early, forcing you into a tighter predicament. The Hodgepodge Effigy may end up being our best bet when it comes to giving the Vikies or VonSchill anything resembling a totem. The Student of Conflict is good first turn for getting either leader to get some extra actions off, but then it does, seriously lag behind. Having it tag along with other slower models, like the Specialist are great tactics. Keeping it back with a second model like Taelor to have either one of them explode into action against the opposition can be worthwhile, as well. Although I have a great time running my Viktorias, they tend to be the crew I loan out for demos. They're easy enough to run without having to explain every detail of the model to a new player. All that's usually needed is a suggestion or two, like, "Did you want to use For My Family before your attack since you said you were going to sack him for Killjoy anyways?"
  12. I'd thought the same about including a circus crew, most likely as Outcasts, while at Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus. Maybe allow them to hire showgirls, but preventing Colette from hiring (most of the) circus members as they're not her style.
  13. Yes, and no. If a trigger asks for another duel to happen, that duel can, in turn, activate another trigger. Some specific ones state that they can keep going until something, like the conditions mentioned above, cause them to finally stop.
  14. Arcanists Crew - 35 - Brawl Rasputina -- 9 Pool Essence of Power [2ss] Kaeris [8ss] Essence of Power [2ss] Fire Gamin [4ss] Fire Gamin [4ss] Gunsmith [6ss] Gunsmith [6ss] Ice Gamin [4ss] Ice Gamin [4ss] It'd be nice if Kaeris had fire mirror to go along with 'Tina's ice mirror. I have a feeling that anything that I'd want to do with having Kaeris teamed up with 'Tina would work far better with just 'Tina and her forces.
  15. If Ramos only summons Electrical Creations, we've only used his +1 Casting Expert, leaving him 2AP and a 0 to do anything else, most of which would be situational. So moving twice, or getting started on his Electrical Fire requirement wouldn't be out of the question. If we go with any of those other suggested strategies of killing off his Large Steampunk Arachnid, then he wouldn't need to Salvage Under Fire to gain the scrap counter to summon an Arachnid instead. ------------------ The other day I got two turns in with my Ramos crew against another friend playing the Vikies. I chose Brass Arachnid and managed to have a 7:tomes and 11:tomes in my opening hand, so I used Stoke on Ramos. Ramos, on his first activation, summoned an Electrical Creation and walked twice. My next model to activate was the EC, which used its 1AP to Burst. Later in the turn I activated Ramos the second time and summoned EC again. It managed to move towards the enemy (next turn dealing 4 total damage to a Ronin, 1 from base contact, 3 from Burst). Turn two, I didn't get the :tomes I needed, so the Brass failed at Stoke twice. I'm gonna give it a try a few more times before deciding whether to bring Alyce back in for Burn Out or to bring in the Arcane Effigy.
  16. Thank you, everybody. :happypuppet1 Glad you like it. Your suits were the perfect touch for the (Stitched Together) carving I found.
  17. This is my first attempt at carving a pumpkin with a Dremel. Decided to start small. I found a pumpkin carving of Oogie Boogie that had dice and card suits. http://captain-sparrow.deviantart.com/art/Oogie-Boogie-Dice-Carving-97432045 I decided to go with Xander's version of the suits instead. See thread:http://wyrd-games.net/forum/showthread.php?t=23478 They didn't turn out great, and I did have to modify the nose of the :rams On the back I went with just the standard Malifaux logo. Here are some pics. I'll post better ones later. Thanks again Xander and Deviant Art's Captain Sparrow.
  18. Xander, I'm borrowing your suits for use on a pumpkin carving. I'll post pics when I'm done. Posted them on my own thread to keep your thread less cluttered. Thank you again. http://wyrd-games.net/forum/showthread.php?p=330478#post330478
  19. So, instead of applying an upgrade to henchman rule on Nekima, we could just upgrade her to a master with a SS cache of 0. Sound fair and balanced? No special forces rules to worry about. No hiring her with Lilith except in a brawl. And everything else that goes with being a master.
  20. He certainly is a good master to have. Reactivate is nice. Colette also has that trick up her sleeve. [And there's a huge debate going on as to whether Hoffman can gain the same ability through a little combo of his abilities. What none of them have said is, why not just take Alyce. He is the third master whose crew she fits into.] I've got two LSPAs on order at my buddy's gameshop. We'll see how well they do.
  21. Like I said, I was throwing out a number and letting other people roll with the math. Giving her Mistress of Nephilim would probably work best, in my opinion. As for comparing her to other Henchmen, I'd say she's closest to VonSchill in terms of helping her teammates, in this case other Nephilim (or at least tots and YN now) and lacking spells all together. They both have (the ability to have) flight. They both have instinctual. His Nimble can save him the AP he needs to make another strike, melee or ranged, which is comparable to, if not better than, Nekimas Melee Expert. (His trigger of Reposition also helps save him movement AP.) While we're on attacks, a 12" gun with a 3/4/5 trumps a 3" greatsword with a 3/4/6, even if it gets a to damage flips. You can't damage what you can't reach, and getting into melee range leaves her exposed. Maybe not to the model she engaged with that most likely doesn't have her melee range, but to all of its friends on their activations. Even if we wait until last to activate her, putting her in such a situation, we still have to win initiative to get her back out of the situation, either through moving or just plain killing the models that pose a threat to her. VonSchill has 2 fewer wounds but has Armor +1, Magic Resistant 1, that may ignore damage from , , and effects. His defense is only 1 point higher, at a 5 to her 4. They both have 4 combat triggers that, thanks to her Neverborn Greatsword, are both just as easy to pull off, if one so chooses. I'd say VonSchill's triggers are more practical, but, as he has his split between his knife and gun, he has to be using the right one for the right effect. Nekima's triggers are very situational, as others have already discussed.
  22. But she would need to have soulstones left in order to actually warrant being a soulstone user. A master with a low or no cache is fine because the master can keep up to 8ss that haven't been spent during hiring. A henchman, on the other hand, can spend their pool during hiring, but may only have up to that much left at the start. Let's go down the list to see ss cost vs henchman pool: Guild: Lucius, Governor's Secretary - SS 10, Henchman 4 Resurrectionists: Molly Squidpiddge - SS 9, Henchman 5 Arcanists: Kaeris - SS 8, Henchman 5 Neverborn: Collodi - SS 8, Henchman 7 Outcasts: Von Schill, Freikorps Leader - SS 9, Henchman 4 (Gremlins): Ophelia LaCroix - SS 8, Henchman 6 Now, there are plenty of arguments for each of these values, but I'll allow someone else to get the ball rolling. I've had an epiphany! Instead of giving Nekima a henchman pool like the rest, what if we gave her an ability like Master of Nephilim that would, for all intents and purposes, work like the Dreamer's Master of Dreams, but for Nephilim she hires. Maybe adjust that number from the 5 the Dreamer has down a bit, but I'd recommend leaving it alone. Why, you ask? I'll tell you why. The Dreamer may have a cache of zero, but that's because he comes with LCB, who would be at least a 13ss model on his own if he weren't a master. Same goes for Viktoria having a cache of zero and getting her twin, that can be resummoned later. Despite what we may think of some of the rules and / or rulings of this game at times, certain things are the way they are for a reason. But, if not, we could still just Drain Souls three models turn 1 to gain 3ss, and Drain more later, if need be.
  23. Sure is. That's why I threw out a number, in this case, 5, to be her Henchman cache. That may have been earlier in this thread or on another thread entirely, though. Unless he intended, by giving her 0, to make her have to use Drain Souls on her crew to gain any soulstones at all.
