  1. i-------------- Edit: Didn't realize my initial edit didn't go thru I like where this has been going. I think I will try this out whenever I have a wee bit of free time... randomly flip pre-game stuff and try to come up with something that works. I never really got out of the WMH mindset where "one list to rule them all" was the ideal. I'll try to post one per week and see how this goes.
  2. I think the problem is that the meta, both globally and locally, has been hammered to death and then hammered some more. It's not that any given model may be useless, but there are so many options that are objectively, and subjectively, better. The Legion player in me loves the teraph in MkII. Most other Legion players will point to a slew of other models that are easier to use for one reason or another. I use two to great effect in my Rhyas lists, and people swear she's one of the worst casters in the game. Meh.
  3. From the crew box itself, there are no native Horror duels, although one is available with upgrades, and somehow Teddy makes a lot of sense since Baby Kade has a nasty abiliity which gives the big lug placement shenanigans. He's kinda scary, and will eat you up to boot. Bad Juju makes sense in a Panda crew as well, and just to round things out, a mature nephilim can add some punch to her crews, just different flovors available. All three are Terrifying, so there you have it.
  4. I first encountered Lynch and Co. not long after being turned on to Spawn of Possession. Check out the album cover here... this is what I sort of picture Lynch and Huggy looking like. Still, no need to be hateful about it. Yeah, Huggy does have a cute side, but that's in touch with his NB/10T roots... expect the unexpected.
  5. My friend and I took too long with our WMH game yesterday, so I didn't get to run a Malifaux demo for him. I got bored and started theorycrafting lists for given strats and schemes. I had a few decent ones, but I felt like I hit my groove with the fifth draw: Flank Deployment Strategy: Squatter's Rights Scheme Pool: LiTS, Bodyguard, Cursed Object, Distract, Deliver a Message Looking at it, I decided one good solution would be to put together a crew that could deny the ability to claim squatter markers, and Distract and Cursde Object looked to be a fun (if annoying) way to do it. Who best to do it? Lilith and Co. Lilith +Beckon Malifaux +Wicked Mistress +Rapid Growth Candy +Depression Mature Nephilim +Obsidian Talons Terror Tots (x3) Sorrow Silurid A brief breakdown of my thinking here: Lilith: our foxy beatstick... doI really need any other reasons? No, but I'll list some anyway.Wicked Vines is a nice way to pin a model down, keeping it from reaching a squat mark.Comine this with Transfixing Gaze, and you can bring some annoyance and 3 damage. Addin the Illusiry Forest and you could really mess someones day up, as I don't see anything that supercedes both damages taking place. Evil. I'm not really sold on the Rapid Growth upgrade, other than to maybe grow some of the brood into something more dangerous. Candy: Sweets and Sours could be fun in a Strat where minis might have to move. Plus healing is never a bad option to have. Best Behavior looks fun, but Melancholy sounds like more fun in this scenario, especially as I've brought her for possible activation manipulation. Mature: Do I even have to explain his inclusion? Big zone for engaging models, brutal as hell, and Wing Buffet may be just the thing to clear enemies out of the way so he can claim a squat mark himself. Obsidian Talons because there are a few nephilim in the list. Tots: Speed, speed, and more speed. Given what I gave Lil, I might be able to set up some pounce attacks. That would be gravy. Mostly there to hand out distract and cursed object, maybe claim a squat mark or two. Sorrow: "You really do have a skull full of maggots! Sorrows suck!" Keep saying that. For this list, I can't think of a better emergency engagement tool (Misery loves Company). Also, the crew does bring a decent number of Wp duels, so why not add death-by-a-thousand cuts to a list with Lil and a Mature? Silurid: Speed plus. Thinking I could jump him up early to grab a squat mark, then pull him back to harass. Thoughts?
  6. I'm inclined to do this right. THat requires me picking up Kin box, assembling and painting said model, then photographing it from a more appropriate angle. Really like the LaCroix's, so it's not that big of an issue.
  7. If you were good at counting cards, then an on-the-fly analysis isn't too bad. If you drew a lot of high cards early on, the positive twist might not mean as much, except for the fact that you can still cheat (probably) if you have cards in your hand. If you drew a lot of low cards, then it means a bit more, because you have good cards lurking in there waiting to be drawn. The exact value is that it makes it that much more likely to be able to cheat if you have to. a + and focus 1 (+) cancels out cover and defensive stance, so you'll at least be at neutral twist and thus able to cheat.
  8. I like the color selection. First, not what you'd expect for NB, but pretty good execution as well.
  9. I liked that article. Some of the stuff you guys are mentioning goes beyond the scope of that article, which specifically states that Deception!=Liscence for Cheating. If there is an issue with a model's abilities as written on the card, sometimes "gotcha!" moments happen. Through study and experience, one can minimize their succeptibility to this; it's one of the things that frustrates me about game companies releasing wave after wave of new stuff, because then I basically have to re-learn how everything new interacts with everything else... and honestly, I'd rather get some games in. What I took away from the article is more along the lines of something out of Sun Tzu's The Art of War, which I believe was mentioned once or twice. Not pulling a gotcha! based on your opponents misunderstanding of how a model or ability works, but by disguising your intentions. If anyone has a problem with THAT, this is probably not the ideal hobby for them. Maybe everyone should re-read that article to get proper context, because it covered, in depth, what deception should, and should NOT be, for gaming.
  10. Skorne have access to the premier fury management unit in the game, PainGiver Beast Handlers (PGBH). Add to that, the Bronzeback has a special ability which causes all friendly titans in its command range (8) to automatically pass threshold checks. So his fury 5 is not really an issue. If you go over all the abilities of PGBH, as well as pMorg's spell card, you would chuckle at how much those titans can dish out for less fury than you'd think, and then the PGBH just start removing fury after the fact, and even if they don't, as long as BB is on the table, it's all good anyway. Ridiculous... in a good way.
  11. Color me inspired. I've been able to "inherit" my roomates old drawing table, which makes a nice playing surface on its own. I want to use it as the basis for some proper game tables using pegboard and cork as the base (cork so that we can pin down terrain pieces), then make some proper hills, forests, and buildings/structures. My first structure set will likely have a "farm" theme to it... fences, livestock pens, a barn or two, some fields and groves of trees. LGS is fun, but gaming at home has its perks.
  12. After playing a lot of Mak2, I find that she does too much spell-slinging early game to fuel an agonizer. Then again, I've pulled of top turn 2 caster kills on a regular basis, so I might be biased here. That said, skorne is solid, but requires a bit of finesse. When done right, it is BRUTAL. My friend borrowed my skorne for a game a few weeks back, he came up with this pMorg t4 gem. pMorg BB Cannoneer 2x Gladdies Brute 2x max Arcuarii max PgbH min PgbH PG MT AD arcuarii were too much beef for my Legion force to chew through, and by the time I thinned them out, he was borrowing my mantra of "Always be power-attacking with titans" - lessons he'd learned quite painfully at my hands- and messed my day up.
  13. I can Somer as still being a good pig master, but maybe not a great one, and that's what will push people towards Ulix. Still, could be fun to run piggies as an auxillary to the boyz.

    The Kin

Great skin tones all around, and the shading and highlighting is excellent. Might have to PM you if I make it out to Chicagoland this year.
  15. The young nephilim are simply awesome. Can't wait to see the rest of the brood.
  16. ^Could not find the Rampage trigger. Did find a Stampede trigger, which is kind of interesting, but can only be declared once per activation. With Lenny around, it can be an almost-auto-trigger event. Tasty. The little piggies have potential.
  17. I guess the big question on bayou gremlins is: If I'm planning on early-turn summoning, how many to start off with? Would 3 or 4 be the sweet spot? I'm in a similar situation, having assembled and started painting the starter set, and I see a bunch of intriguing options but need to find the sweet spot to free up points for models and upgrades, some of which seem to be very high on people's lists of things to get for certain models. In a 35 SS game, 9 stones on 3 BGs lets me make some elite purchases for Somer's crew, slightly less so at 12 stones for 4. Getting 5 for 15 kind of closes the window on some of the awesome-sauce that can be brought. I'm thinking for a Somerin' list, I'll be spending 4 SS on the QQuality Mash and Family Tree upgrades, so that effectively makes it a 31 SS list. Spend 9 on 3 BGs, and I'm down to 22 for models/upgrades. (Yeah, I get it that 50 SS is the new 35, but my collection is limited at the moment and I'm trying to wrap my head fully around gremlin shenanigans, so I'll likely end up starting small.)
  18. Is the question here something like this: Start piglet's activation. No friendly gremlins within 2". so it MUST spend 1 AP to do the pig-charge. During the charge attacks, it kills the target. It is now unengaged and not within 2" of friendly gremlin, so it MUST (once again) take the Pig-CHarge action for 1 AP. ??? Edit: removed erroneous reference to pigs
  19. I'm thinking they'll actually be the first team to pull off several engine switches... in a min game.
  20. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Play whaqt appeals to you rules and model-wise. When we started, NB really appealed to me, and as a bonus, no one else was playing them... due to other stuff that appealed to them.
  21. Not all of us can be satisfied with undead hookers...
  22. For Pandi, I would look at it like this: "Does the model have actions which force Wp duels? What else does it do besides that?" I've really fallen in love with stitched together for her. They have a Wp-based attack, and it has some card manipulation built in as a bonus. They also have two Df-based attacks, as well as Creepy Fog to obscure LoS. A lot of tactical possibilities with them outside of the Wp duel+ card manipulator. Then again, sometimes you just need a heavy hitter or a speedster to accomplish other things. Don't worry if Candy underperforms atm. It could be any number of factors making her less-than-stellar... bad luck, activating her too early or too late, trying it on less-than-ideal targets... play a few more games to figure out what works and what doesn't.
  23. No love for the Widow Weaver? A creepy spider lady in a Victorian-style dress kinda says a lot about what kind of game this is.
  24. If I had to do the "One master for One Year" thing, it would likely be Pandora... much to the chagrin of my limited pool of opponents. Her playstyle is unique enough that it could be done with a variety of crew members outside of the usual suspects (her box)... many NB models do Wp duels as part of their schtick, as do a number of Outcast mercs-for-hire. Then there's the opportunity to try her out without the Wp-schtick crew to try out the various interactions with hard-hitters in addition to that. Either that or Nicodem, for similar-yet-opposite reasons.
  25. That's just unfair-good. Although it does give me something to shoot for in my own painting. I can't decide what I like best, although the membranes on the wings are high on the list along with the highlighting on the scales.
