  1. Fritz may be on to something with them. As a unit that works best in larger point games. Where the use of the disrupting mist and bringing a gang where you need it on the table quickly would be more beneficial. At the 25-35 stone scrap level I think other options out weight what they do. They aren't a never include, its just such a specific set of circumstances that improves their power that I can find more reasons to take other figures then to include them. Larger games with masters without access to the fog or other obscuring abilities in large games might be a winner.
  2. At this point crooligans are a nice looking model that exist so molly could be used as a standalone henchman. For theb cost and role useless. The mist is tO expensive to cast and it not being a zero and requiring 3 to make things work is ridicoulous. As far as special forces go the horros need to be more fleshed out to make molly work.
  3. Card counting in malifaux if your able to do it and glean an advantage by all means count away. I think the effort required compared to the results are negligable. What it can help with is determing relative odds of success at a given moment. Has no real barring but if you been able to see that your opponent has used a majority of there high cards and you a majority of your low. It is highly probably that your attacks will hit home and cause significant damage. However if that were the case its likely your opponent just hit you hard. By the time in a turn you'd have a fair idea of how each deck is shaping up your likely down to the last 2 activatoons of that turn. Again I see it as a skill but its actual prctical application in malifaux is suspect
  4. Nico is awesome! However to really make nico work you'll need several blisters. You could get started easily enough with his box set a blister of mindless anf a flesh construct. But to really make nico work you need belles , more big flesh constructs, dead rider and lots of additional stuff to get the most out of him. But as a minimal starting point it be a box set a flesh golemn and mindless zombies. Not a huge investment a little over 50 bucks but gives you a very solid start. If your looking for cheap 1box fun I'd go sonnia.
  5. Congratulations on choosign the resser path. yes decent list can be made from both of those box sets for both masters. Some first purchases would be a convict gunslinger. Long range firepower is very nice to add. Then I would suggest grabbing a flesh construct and a blister of mindless zombies. He really ups the power of nico basic box. Some base ideas. 2 punk zombies and a Belle are a good starting point for both masters list regardless of strategy. The base nico box lacks movement and board control but excels at damage dealing, and the base seamus box lacks damage dealing but excels at movement and board control. You really couldn't at least in my eyes have picked better boxes to start the game with.
  6. Undead hookers! Its what got me into malifaux. What has kept me me here is really 3 fold. 1.) Alternating activations- you go I go is huge it makes for a more interactive and ever changing game. Adding activation order to the game is just such a simple thing that elevates the level of complexity. 2.)every model is important and has more options than it has activation points. This is huge for me, everything in malifaux has a purpose and it has a variety of options to use its precious APs on. And using those AP will ultimately win or lose you the game. 3.)Schemes and Strategies-The entire system is awesome I love the strategies and then the flexiblity of picking the schemes makes for no two games being the same. 4.)Affordablity of the system. Malifaux is one of the most affordable games I have ever played. I have nearly 10,000pts of Space Marines and 4000pts of Tyranids as well as a Protectorate army fo warmhahordes. I have 3 masters currently for malifaux and looking to expand. the fact that for a box set of marines I could start a brand new master to provide additional variety is a huge selling point. 5.The complexity of simplicity. At its core malifaux is a simple game that has amazing depth and complexity through the options it presents to the players on each move for each piece.
  7. Nice catch and point for discussion. Wouldn't mind a another teddy to add to one of the models that drew me into this game.
  8. Your views intrigue me I'd like to subscribe to your news letter Just purchased marcus and would like to join your if I could b number 10100011011
  9. Yeah I've done it I finally did it. I purchased marcus as my first aracanist master and as my third master overall. I have Seamus and Nico already and the call of the wild finally was too much to bear. And so I embark on my quest to conquerer marcus. Highly inspired by both the team marcus thread and by ukrocky's definative marcus is a beast thread. To start I have 2xNight terrors 1xshikome 1xconvict gunslinger 1xrogue necromancy 3x silruids Marcus Jackalope 2xwaldergeidt 2x molemen 1x soulstone miner 1x Von schill I avoid marcus' box set as myranda seems more trouble than she's worth and I don't like the razerspine. Although at somepoint I may pick all of them up. My question is are the models I have a solid start point for marcus. I really don't want to run kaeris. With marcus yet as I am saving her for the inevitable expansion to ramos. As I like to have at least 2 masters before I buy henchmen. Personal rule and all. Malifaux has me so addicted right now its funny and marcus makes a nice contrast to my seamus and nico collection with some overlap of model choice. Marcus players of the world unite!
  10. Nice write up. Very well stated and helpful. Absolutely true switch armies benefits both players and strengthens the community. Not to mention it could lead to additional sales. Which is win for the community more players more incentive for wyrd to produce. And for wyrd as more money in the coffers hurts no one so long as its from organic growth and not a money grab read as gw.
  11. Avatars are one of the most interesting ideas the designers of malifaux have come up with. The idea of an in game evolution with different abilities are outstanding. However avatars are not needed to be competitive in other wors. A basic master vs a master with avatar is still a fair fight. Some avatars most notable ramos fixes a lot of precieved weakness. Seamus avatar fixes the proliferation of uneffected models for the majority of his abilites and it increases the value of specific minions such as molly. Who fills in the abilites he losses on manifest. I see value in a lot of the avatars but it is far from gamr breaking to not have them or to have them. From a tourney perspective you'll see a lot of azorida and a lot aseamus along with a ramos. But this could all change as special forces minions come into view. Avatars offer some interesting minion revaluations and opportunites for the design team to make avatar friendly minions. Thus increasing overall attractiveness of avatars.
  12. That's a solid idea fritz. I find guild autopsy come into there own when using mcmourning vs other resser crews. Shootin g minion withchance of becoming a counter to be used against them. Its still best as a summoned minion as opposed to included. But I really like the concept fritz.
  13. Malifaux blast mechanics are fine as is. If I want to shoot myself to hurt you I should be able to. I am a resser player my stuff can just come back. Its a simple system and that tactic is built into the competitive balance of the game. Disengaging strikes are also completely fine and are designed to allow tactical flexiblity. The malifaux rule set as a whole is exterely enjoyable to play and I have been running a campaign with it for several months. As to making blast 75mm, 50mm is just fine its currently the largest base in the game and an increase I don't see a need particularly with the blast rules as is. Your definately allowed your opinion but I for one disagree with it and am trying to more fully understand it. Malifaux is far from a perfect game but its base mechanics are very solid and I would hesitate to change them. Assimliate will be a point of discussion for a while however its base concept copying a models ability is hardly new. See book 1 doopleganger. Most things in malifaux walk the rzer edge between insanely op to unuseable if you tweak them down. It has become my gaame system of choice
  14. I'm taking the plundge and buying marcus. Book 3 fluff sealed it plus I am a fan of the old 80's cartoon Bravestar which marcus reminds me of. Plus he complements my minis I already own. For initial purchasing I would be fine doing Marcus blister Sulrrids blister Mole blister Were's waldy Soulstone miner Jackalope Trying to keep my initial marcus purchase under 80bucks us. I already have Shikomex1 Convict gunslinger Rogue necromancy 2xnight terrors Vonschill Jack daw
  15. I would love a counter set particularlly the set that comes in the terrain without having to buy the terrain. As counter sets often make great christmas gifts for gaming friends.
  16. I do agree Q'iq'el that molly and friends work best with Nicodem if you aren't taking Seamus' Avatar form. The Crooligans are interesting and adding more options to potentially block los and operate outside the death ball is a good thing. The fact that the unit works best as a trio but most take a 9pt model to have that trio is a hard sell for me. I really really like necropunks with Nico because of the cost of the unit. While everyone playing should know how to counter necros at this point. Killing a single 4stone model to cripple the other one isn't hard to do. They are another choice to fullfill the interacting with objectives and provide some advanced deployment which ressers haven't had. And the ability to drop obscuring shouldn't be taken lightly. I do think part of it is they are new and play a bit differently than were used to yet and this is causing the old reliable syndrome to creep in. I'd say more testing overall is needed and open minds on them as well. But I would very much like to be able to take 3 without being forced to include molly.
  17. Thanks for the response Ukrocky. I'll be picking up marcus later this weekend if all goes right. He'll complement or at least can use a lot of what I have already in my box. And he seems like a blast to play and very different from my standard Seamus/Nico Resser crews.
  18. The post interaction is a push. And you will drop a counter as it isn't a walk action. Also crooligans are horrors so max of two unless molly is in the list. They have a lot of potential in line in the sand. I also like the mist providing some addiotional los blocking but u need an 8+ to get mist off. Have to use them more but so far unimpressed.
  19. General strategy question with marcus. Do you find any strategies particularly hard for marcus and crew to accomplish. General schemes to start match ups do you take. Are your scheme choices dicated by the strategy or the opponent. Thanks in advance
  20. Interesting ideas, it just seems to me book 2 as a collective was such a radical advancement of power level and design philiosphy across the board. Malifaux will feel its effects for editions. You could make cases depending on the local meta that all book 2 masters are in need of a dramatic cuddle. You could also argue each is perfectly fine. Masters like pandora and hamlin who so radically change the game are tough for nonexperienced players to deal with. Even if your experienced these masters can prove problematic. What the solution is I don't know. I see a pattern of wyrd fixing unintentional infinate loops. So perhaps the rats will be tweaked to prevent abuse while retaining hamlins flavor and unique play style. The game shoud be accesssible and fun for the players both rat lovers and non rat lovers.
  21. Nt are objective grabbers. A flock of 3 can move an unactivated one 12" and the entire flock can move 18" a turn. They are speedy objective grabbers with spirit. I run a pair currently but need second blister.
  22. One has to be careful when tweaking models and abilities. There is often a fine line between broken and unplayable. However something that should be taken into account is negative play experience. Its something that should be looked at as negative play experiences harm the game. When playing against pandora and hamlin you indeed cease to play malifaux you instead are playing the pandora or the hamlin game. For some that is not a enjoyable game. For others it is great fun on both sides. I'm going to say I like the challenges these masters represent to play against. However for many that challenge is not enjoyable. But certain abilities I.e. The rat buzz saw of repeated rat catcher abuse can sour people. But we have to remember the fine line between broken and useless.
  23. Definately see some possiblity with adding a raptor to make opponents beasts to increase mctavishes range support. I like the idea of crazy swamp lady and her beasts coming outa the swamp at you. Be a cool themed list for sure.
  24. Can't go wrong witht the mad hatter. His box needs a beat stick. I'm a big fan of punk zombies with him. Convict gunslinger is a model that everyone should get cause he's just so versital. He complements seamus well. Grave spirit for nonavatar games. Making one of your undead get armor two. For a point is too delicious not to take. Although if your planning on the molly box anyway necrotic machine can do some fun stuff. Best first seamus buy is either punk zombies hanged or von schill. You need a beat stick, bette is fun but if your opponents are non living bette kinda loses her edge.
  25. I prefer the duel large steampunk Arachnids compared to the executioner if you are looking for a core build, i'd only take one steampunk arachnid and add in a soulstone miner. For demo purposes the executioner is better beings it comes in the box. but personally i think the executioner is great as an assassination model but it will not survive return fire. The large steampunk is great its significant and most importantly drops 3 scrap counters when it dies. These are vital if you end up running avatar Ramos and you will want to get him to avatar, his avatar is just better. But I'd suggest just running 1 and changing the other to a soulstone miner.
