  1. I'd rather deal direct than pay more just to fill Apple's pockets. I dig the magazine, keep up the great work.
  2. Nice stuff so far. For the pirate, cliché, but maybe try a planked balsa base to look like decking?
  3. Sweet, just downloaded. Is there going to be a subscription plan?
  4. Checked out your blog, nice stuff. I dig the swamp board. It is very unique.
  5. Wow, that's awesome. Was the model still in good shape when you received it? Those are pretty old at this point.
  6. good luck with the airbrush, it is certainly a tricky skill to get the hang of.
  7. Great article, i hope you keep doing them in the Journal. As for the diorama you have going, needless to say, I am anxious to see what you can do with this project. It certainly looks like it is going to be cool.
  8. That looks great. Good idea.
  9. This is a phenomenal project, keep the updates coming.
  10. I bought it and it was well worth the $1.50. I look forward to next issue.
  11. Nice green stuff work. I dig the poncho and can't wait to see it all painted up and dirty looking. Great work.
  12. Nice project. Have to agree with some of the others posting above about lightening up the gremlin skin tone a bit. It will make some of the more dark, black, or leathery outfits with a little contrast. Overall this is great stuff. Any idea how the basing will go yet?
  13. Thanks for the input. I'll see if i can give one of the home brew methods a go on a test piece.
  14. Just a quick question on the age it easy. Do you have to be extra careful that no glue seeps through to the front of the projects, or does it color that a bit as well? I've sometimes been sloppy in my haste to get late night projects finished.
  15. Hmm, the regular thread idea may be the way I go. Thanks for the idea. Can't wait to see the step by step for the dynamite in a box. These little projects have been a nice diversion to slow down my painting and force me to take my time.
  16. I don't think the switch to plastic ruins the game or anything like that. Wyrd seems to be getting a handle on the plastic model production as well. My Miss Terious seemed too smooth in places and seemed just a bit off in general. My riflemen and strongarm suit are both great plastic sculpts though. So, it seems that practice and experience are making all of the difference. I think the rush to get things out for Gen Con resulted in a bit of a slip in quality as they were getting to grips with the new format. As far as the weight concern goes, you can always add a small washer to the bottom of the bases to give the minis a little more heft. A bag of washers is pretty cheap at a DIY store. I've used them in the past for 40k figures that were off balance. Works just as well for Malifaux minis.
  17. Good little tutorial. I may try this one. Stuff like this is good for a little project while you are waiting for paint to dry on a batch of minis or other bases, etc that you sanded to dry. I tried the dynamite tutorial as well, but have not had a chance to grab fuse wire. They are in project limbo right now.
  18. They look great. Nice white clothing recipe as well, i may give that a try.
  19. You can get Master's Brush Cleaner at most art stores, Michaels, Hobby Lobby, in the US. Similar stores likely carry it overseas. Plus, it's pretty cheap and works great.
  20. My 2 cents. I tend to paint figures that are pinned to cork, so that i can get into all of the nook and crannies. However, i will only do that for small model count games, like Malifaux. Also, if you want to try something new with water effects, you may want to paint them separately. This was you can treat them like two separate projects and if you don't get the results you like with the base, you can keep trying until you find what you like. This way, your figure itself will not be impacted by extra handling and reattempts at the base.
  21. depending on how much time you want to invest, you can short job it by painting as normal, going with a dullcote or any matt varnish, then hand varnishing the silk portions with a gloss brush on sealant. If you want to go extra crazy, or if you are able, you can go to coolminiornot and go to the tutorials there. I recall a few decent ones for silk and sheer clothing. a bit beyond my abilities though. Strictly tabletop in my abilities.
  22. Looks great. I attempted to lure my frequent opponent into using the special terrain with rules, but i generally end up using them without the rules. Great stuff though, nice tutorial. The soulstone vein was a nice look. I didn't picture it like a crack in the ground, that's a good take. For some reason i pictured crystal popping up, like necron bits. can't wait to see more. Maybe a creepy structure?
  23. If you can't get in good spray priming conditions i have had good results from vallejo and the old GW brush on primer. It is a little easier IMO than moving heaven and earth to fake good outdoor priming conditions. Since Malifaux doesn't really need a high model count, you can hand prime a few minis and it is not nearly as awful as hand priming a large model count army. As for indoor spraying, it'll work, but overspray particles will likely get everywhere. Not a good way to impress a mother/roommate/significant other. Plus, it can be stinky, depending on the primer.
  24. Great idea on the bead lamps. your test lamps look pretty good as is, even if you are not able to find longer beads.
