  1. These are beautiful, such a nice clean paint style. Look forward to seeing more.
  2. Hey all, So this update is very long overdue (as always). I never really got around to tying this project up properly so I figured now is the time to do it. For people following this thread I did finish my crew and the new display board in time for the UK Nationals last year. The display board took me pretty much 5 weeks on the run up and though I was happy with the end product it wasn't worth the stress. I walked away with 2nd place for painting (players vote) missing out on 1st by 1 vote. I was beaten by a rather nice 10T crew in the end for the painting and a fantastic Dark Carnival piece for the display board category. Then once all that was over it was Christmas and then real life stuff got in the way and I never got around to updating this thread. Then being the mastermind I am I tidied up my photobucket the other month and broke all my links (go me!). So today I re-linked all my work and grabbed some finished pictures of the individual crew members. I had to pinch them from my Instagram so they're not the best quality but it's all I have I'm afraid. Perdita Enslaved Nephelim Santiago Francisco Nino Papa Loco Abuela & Senor Hodor Executioner A WIP of their display board And the finished article with all the family And that is the Ortega family all done and dusted for now. Sadly I never did finish the Peacekeeper though I will get around to that at some point. I really enjoyed this project and I learnt a load of stuff in the process. Massive thanks to those that have followed this project and provided your suggestions and comments. And now currently I am on to my new project, Marcus! I have started not only a new crew but a website/blog as well. So if you'd like to follow my progress you can find my website at www.haychdee.com And if you're on Instagram or Twitter you can also find me at @haychdee So that's it for now. I will hopefully be back with some updates in the future. hd
  3. Not sure about a limit, I normally upload to my Photobucket account and then just link the pictures in. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your work
  4. Thanks! I did white first then added the black and then the other colours on top. I did Perdita last and I think it turned out the best. I airbrushed the white on for good coverage first, then took my super super fine bristle brush and carefully added everything else on.
  5. I've fallen way behind with updates for this blog and due to a photobucket re-shuffle the links are broken. I will fix the links soon. @iamfanboy all my pics are also on my instagram here https://www.instagram.com/haychdee/
  6. I'm red and number 18 on reserves Haydn Smith
  7. I've double posted like a melon so I may as well edit to ask: Will CGG be open on the Friday evening like last year for pre games or an enforcer brawl?
  8. Can we put forward Team Beefeater as well please, should be the 6 of us booked on now.
  9. Can I pop my name down on the reserve please Mike. Thanks Haydn
  10. Hoping to get down to this with a few of my team mates as well. Had a quick read of the pack and one sentence mentions that it's enforcer for best painted but in the prize section is says it's fro 3 minions. Both sound good but was just wondering which one it'll be? Thanks Haydn
  11. Sorry for the delay but payment sent through now Cheers Haydn
  12. Lovely work all round! Especially like the Exorcists cloak, McMourning and the NMM on Miss Step is top notch! Look forward to seeing more!
  13. Hey all, @WalkingInBlack Thanks for your continuing support and to answer your question I do actually do commissions. I mainly do sculpting commissions but if it's the right kind of project (i.e. something I'd enjoy) I am willing to pick up my brushes as well. @Alessandro Thank you very much @Joooohan I agree on both points. Work is already underway on fleshing out the family (check below) and I will be adding a few less thematic options in order to learn some better tactics. Display board wise I totally agree, the wall definitely needs a little something, originally I was going to add posters and notices. However the board was made in a rush as I needed it for the tournament so it didn't get the attention it deserved. I am starting work on a new one ready for UK Nationals though which will be getting a bit more effort poured into it. @sigmar3 Thank you. I've really enjoyed putting these together but the only problem now is thinking up what to do for the next project. @ringsnake Thanks for the kind feedback. You've just got to keep trying with conversions for Malifaux and then eventually you'll get the hang of it. I'd done quite a few other bits before I attempted this crew and I've been sculpting for 10 years or so. Regarding Abuela, I actually played around with a skull type design for Senor Hodor but I couldn't get it to look right. I may revisit him later and try adding a few more details. And to answer your question, the sheet in my spray booth was actually a timetable to make sure I got everything completed in time for the Scottish GT. @Averlorn Thank you, there's a little update with this post but there should be a few bits popping up between now and November. @sockwithaticket Thank you very much indeed and cheers for following this project through. So another small update of what I'm working on at the moment... I've fallen a bit behind (as usual) with this project but I'm starting to get things back on track. I have until November 19th to: - Convert and paint the peacekeeper - Convert and paint the Executioner - Touch up the current crew (mainly the NMM and freehand) - Design, make and paint up a new display board So time once again is against me but hopefully I can battle through and get everything ready on time. Just as long as I'm not planning on moving house anytime soon....ah yes I also move house next month. But on with a little update... First off we have the WIP of the Peacekeeper. The concept behind this guy is that he is a walking DdlM alter. I did a bit of research into the alters they offer in the actual festival and I loosely transferred it onto the model. I didn't include everything that would traditionally be on there, I focused more on the figure, candles, flowers and a bowl of incense (missing from pic). And next up we have the WIP of the Executioner. So this guy has had a bit of a re-pose to have his claws more down by his sides. And then I also decided to put him in a big duster coat with will look pretty similar to Santiago's. And that's all for now. I'll post up some more once I've made some decent progress. C&C welcomed as always hd
  14. It's been far too long again without an update so here goes... Thankfully I did manage to get these guys all painted up for the Scottish GT and I'm pleased to say that the hard work paid off as I managed to walk away with the Best Painted award. Aside from that, the Scottish GT was probably the best tournament I've been to yet, very well run, great prize support and met a whole bunch of friendly people. Anyways, on with the update! So as mentioned the crew is finished for now. There are a lot of missing WIP shots that I should have but didn't take along the way. As the deadline fast approached I just got so focused on the painting that I forgot about pictures. But I have pictures now so herre is the crew in its painted state. (Apologies on the not so great photo, my new set up should be on its way soon) And I also got their display board sorted which looks like this (Again, not a great photo, sorry) So this was meant to be the crew done. I was gonna draw a line under these guys and move on to the next project ready for the UK nationals. But, being the usual sub par timekeeper I am I've not really left myself a whole lot of time to order a new crew, convert them up and get them painted. So now the plan is to reinforce Perdita and co with a few models and then go back over each member to add more detail and freehand etc. My latest order is on the way so over the next or so I'll be making a start on wave 2 for this crew and hopefully by the time Nationals rolls around I will have a better photography set up. Until then, all C&C welcome hd
  15. Anyone heading down from Nottingham area or passing J27 on the M1? Happy to chip in for fuel. Just prefer to car share over travelling solo
  16. Beautiful work as always! Really enjoyed seeing all your Iron Painter pieces Can I ask how did you make those spider webs?
  17. This thread is back from los muertos!!! As Stark mentioned I have been away working on the Iron Painter competition so I've had no spare time to dedicate to this little project. However, that is no longer the case! After taking a few weeks off to chill out I am back in full swing and cracking on with the Ortega's. I am heading up to Scotland on the 23rd for the GT and I WILL be taking a fully painted crew up with me. The deadline leaves things very tight and I am currently working to a strict schedule to get these guys done. Unfortunately, I won't have time to do some of the freehand I had planned but once the tourney is out of the way I will re-visit them and fine tune the whole gang. But I can't make a post and not bring you some pictures so I have a few to share for you Firstly, I have bought some new toys and I have now invested in an airbrush. Just a beginners one at the mo but in future projects hopefully I can use it to better my skills. Also note the schedule pinned up to ensure I'm hitting my goals. Next up we have a very WIP shot of Perdita. She's a bit of a Frankenstein's monster at the moment as she has the body of Lady Ligeia, the pistols of a convict gunslinger and a TTB head. I'm aware than at the moment those pistols might look a tad on the large side. IRL they fit quite well but once I've sculpted up some big hair I'm pretty confident it'll all balance out. Then we have Papa Loco. So the plan was to paint Loco as normal and just replace him on the display board with someone more in theme. The models replacing him and the Nephilim were due to be Westrels. But once I'd started to play around with the Westrels I had an idea for a conversion. So then this guy was created. He's made up from a Westrel body with his legs bent into a slightly crooked pose. He has the arms from bolt action Russian infantry and the gun and head from Loco himself. I'm really happy with this guy, I think I've kept him in theme with the others and hopefully still capture a little bit of his craziness. I will also be modelling a leg strapped up with TNT like his original. Oh and before I forget, I can also show you a little sneak peak of the display board I'm working on. It's made from a picture frame and foam card. The front is all hand painted and I'm currently sculpting out all the brick work on top which is taking an age! And that's pretty much in for now folks. Like I say I'm powering through now to get these guys all ready for next weekend. I will hopefully drop a few pictures of Perdita and Loco in their finished conversion state. Then once I'm back from the GT I'll take some nice pictures of everything all painted up. C&C, questions and queries all welcome hd
  18. As a fan of the Freikorps, Bioshock and conversions I absolutely love this crew. Fantastic work all round, they've turned out superb. Do you happen to have any photo's of them before they were painted? Would love to see your raw conversion work hd
  19. I have a fair amount of experience with sculpting and converting. You can check my current thread here Your main issue with what you're trying to do is that the difference in physique from the male to female means that you risk the end model looking a bit butch. The main area of focus people jump to will be the chest but you need to look at ways to thin the waist arms and legs. Meaning pretty much you're going to be altering the entire model to get the feminine look. If you post up some pictures I can try giving you some pointers. hd
  20. Nice work all round! Love seeing some conversions coming through in Malifaux. The trapper looks good but to me her right upper arm (pictures left) looks a tad too long. Might just be the perspective though. Keep up the good work hd
  21. Paid! Think you've still got the Ante Up description on the War zone site though. Haydn
  22. Definitely down for this one, format looks pretty cool
