Therril_83 Posted January 17, 2013 Report Share Posted January 17, 2013 Convict Gunslinger: Mid range shooting.....A LOT of shooting. average damage (2/3/4), but potential to fire of massive ammounts of shots. His trigger happy trigger comes up more often that you would think Gives you a good use for those masks that you might otherwise not get anything special out of. I have to +1 this suggestion. I don't own him myself but several of my regular opponents do, and I take very special care not to allow him the opportunity to activate within 10" of any of my models. Quite a few models will drop dead in a rapid fire from a gunslinger. Also remember that his trigger happy actually works in melee, as it only states "pistol strike" and he is using those pistols with gunfighter in melee. He's brutal for 5ss in an outcast crew. Another model I'm a big fan of in the outcast lineup is Ronin. Cb5 with a decent damage profile with a builtin on damage flips and ignoring armor. Also mobile, so ignores severe terrain when walking and charging. Also able to push their charge and get a strike in as a (2) Action. Also able to automatically trigger a 4" push after hitting a model. Also able to get Df8. Also Hard to Kill, so won't die too easily. Also able to regain harmless. And lastly, they can sacrifice themselves for 2ss, which although occational, it may deny your opponent VPs or help keep your master/henchman alive. Very nearly killed Cassandra in one go, even with Southern Charm up. If it wasn't because she could spend soulstones and he can't she would have died. While the model is not out, I am of the Ama No Zako is the best Merc out of the Book 4 for Von Schill led crews. Personally i would never take more than 2. But that is my opinion. I have seen players on here take all four with a plan to use them for body parts or to summon killjoy, but outside of some kind of plan like that, there's really no point. I use Laz with Levi and A&D to get Fast or other abilities... Laz with Von Schill won't have anything. Plus, I think staying with the SAS and the box set is the way to go with Von Schill, they just have really nice synergy that you usually don't see in Outcasts. Definitely dont agree with this. All the Outcast crews (with the arguable exception of the Viks) have a lot of "really nice synergy" (they have to as their hiring pools are so restricted). I have just recently expanded to Levi and have Hamelin sitting in a box somewhere! (and, like some others, feel that Gremlins are their own faction) I agree that Levi has decent synergy amongst his "minions" and then can find some well-fitting Minions elsewhere. Hamelin, of course, looks mostly like a self-contained Master that may borrow here or there depending on each player's preferences. But, I guess what I meant is that Von Schill, while not a great Leader by himself, really gels with his other Freikorps models. And while I do advocate taking some mercenaries with Von Schill, I think the majority of points should be Freikorps. My theory is that if you are selecing various Mercenaries, you're probably better served with the Viks as your Leader and Von Schill and a Henchmen.... I love how playing him with the Freikorps I never feel like I'm "out" of a game or that I have a "bad" matchup (though Kirai can cause some extreme displeasure depending on your strategy). This isn't to say I never lose with him, I certainly do at times, but I never look at the table on turn one and go "Well, I'm probably going to lose!" I really, really like running Freikorpmann spam lists with him, when the strategy allows for it (and most do). Something like this: Outcasts Crew - 35 - Scrap Von Schill -- 4 Pool Freikorpmann [4ss] Freikorpmann [4ss] Freikorpmann [4ss] Freikorpmann [4ss] Freikorpmann [4ss] Freikorpmann [4ss] Freikorpmann [4ss] Freikorps Librarian [7ss] I'm not saying this is the best list, just one of my favorites. Having that many resilient models on the table is awesome. I'll also swap in Wong or an oiran depending on the map, strategy, and opponent's faction. Edit: This is not to say that I don't make use of the Strongarm, Trappers, or Specialist. Trappers happen to be one of my favorite models and I switch the lists up as the strategy dictates but in a purely casual and for-fun game I have an affinity for Freikorpmann spam.
