  1. I'm reading "Ryle" between the lines.. I'm the afforementioned sparring partner, and that is exactly what I ran. I thought I was being clever.. but Panner was even more clever than me. And I do also like to point out I think I had the terrain against me a bit, but that's a poor excuse.
  2. I would interpret that as the poison condition only deals damage once, and Sebastian makes it deal 2 more damage that it did before, it still only triggers once, dealing 3 damage. The fact that it says "...from the poison condition" is what makes it for me. If it just had said, "...suffer an additional 2 damage" then I would be more inclined to thinking it was two different damages and would get around HtK.
  3. Here comes another plug, the app is now updated to version 1.8, with support for the Gaining Grounds 2016 strategies and schemes. I just uploaded it, so as of posting this it might still take another hour or so until it's published on the Play Store.
  4. Technically the accuracy modifier isn't added to the duel, it's the result of the duel, and it's applied to any damage flips caused by the action.
  5. I do agree that the language of the book indicates the way that Gabbi interprates it, but I've also come to this quoted sollution as to still keep my math-mind sane and still follow the FAQed ruling.
  6. Yes, that is completely correct. The ability is quite specific in stating that it has to be damage from an attack action, and burning is damage from a condition, and not an attack action. Edit: so I didn't know Kaeris abilities, and I agree with Solkan that it's not actually resolving the condition, it just uses the value of the condition. My bad for answering too quickly without reading up on her. I can't recall an attack of the top of my head that actually resolves a condition in that way. McMourning's expunge is the same that it only uses the value.
  7. I actually think Francisco adds the most together with Sonnia, because he really shifts her from being a slow and vulnerable master that has a hard time leveraging her damage without being locked in melee into a decently paced fiery kill machine that's not so easy to kill. Hermanos to drag her along is about as auto-include as anything I've found in this game. Other upgrades on him vary with my daily mood and available soulstones. That he then also buffs her Df+Wp makes her that much more able to survive a turn, and then the fantastic bodyguard (not the scheme..) that he is, is almost what makes him the best. Opponents will usually think twice before engaging Sonnia when Francisco is still alive and nearby. When I play Sonnia without Fransisco, she's usually tied in combat by end of turn2 or early turn3, and she's rarely killed much since she has to spend so much AP moving. So I really think he enables her to work as she should. McCabe is really fast enough without Frans and can buff other models to perform as good or better. Justice I'm not that into, but I imagine she'll like the push first turn and then run away from him. Hoffman just likes hits bots, Lucius his minions and Perdita is just fast enough with her own pushes and her Df7 going to 9 doesn't matter as much as you think. That said, he's still a solid model for his points and I don't think he's ever bad, but I don't think he's always the best take.
  8. Hannah has Arcane Reservoir, actually increasing your handsize. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure how that works together though, if Hannah+2 RoM enables you to draw 9 and keep 7, or still draw 8 but keep 7.. I would guess the first one, but I don't have any rules quote to back it with.
  9. Tuttleboy, add On Wings of Darkness then and spend a stone each turn to draw. That's drawing 11cards per turn, over 20% of the deck (even more if you discarded cards from the last turn). So even if they're all crap, you can safely say you removed a bunch of crap from the deck so you won't have to flip them
  10. A new version that includes support for generating Story Encounters is on the way to the Play Store. Feedback regarding the look-and-feel of generating those would be appreciated.
  11. I plan on using these, called "Desert Thing", from Reaper Miniatures. Won't be gluing the tentacles, so then they will be easy to transport and to place models on top of.
  12. Welcome back, CrouchingMoose! Just a small FYI, I recently got flagged by Google who suspended my app, which I'm pretty sure was because of the icon (not easy to know for sure with the cryptic mails they send though). So you might want to look into changing that as well.
  13. Hey everyone. I just wanted to take a moment to shamelesly plug my Android app as it's just been reincarnated. Google jumped in and flagged my previous app 'Malifaux Strategy Generator" for using the official icon (Wyrd never said anything so I believe this is purely Googles bots) and so shut it down. So I've just rebranded it ever so slightly, and uploaded it anew. I also made the second feature, the objective listing view, a bit more accessible by adding tabbed views, so it's now easier than before to both generate a new setup for your game, or to lookup any deployment, strategy or scheme on the fly. Please take a look if you're interested and feedback is appreciated. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mlindh.fauxstrats
  14. This. I always thought it was pretty clear that the intent was only to give the model a sort of pseudo reactivate+companion, but it's still the models own activation and all that*. But since this thread is even alive makes it apparent that it's not as clear as I thought.. *(although I don't like the wording of "this model controls the target..", it should be "this models controller controls..". Same issue as with the On Wings of Darkness-upgrade, models don't control models or draw cards, players controls models and draw cards.)
  15. I would say C. The ability doesn't specifically state that you have to end up in b2b with the marker for the effect to apply, but it's also not optional. So you cannot chose to push only part of the way, but if you are interrupted by another rule, it doesn't interfere with the effect. That would be my interpretation.
  16. I feel a lot of people dismiss Sonnias interest in burning a bit too fast.. Sure, it's not strictly required, as it is with Kaeris, but if you know or anticipate that you will be firing into cover a lot with Sonnia, then putting out burning can of course be really helpful, it's just quite as easy to do with Guild in my opinion. I prefer doing it with either the Freikorps Specialist or the Purifying Flame. Freikorps Specialist has the advantage of also ignoring cover, and having the trigger both built in and affecting all models damaged, not just the target. Downside is that he's quite expensive, and not overly resilient, although not as bad as Samael. Purifying Flame has the advantage of being like a cheaper Witchling Stalker on a suger rush. It's incorporeal and has a slightly better walk than the stalker, and it's charge is really high. It's not as good at dealing damage as the stalker, but comparable in dealing out burning. I don't rate Samael personally, but I know others do and he has been discussed already so I'm not going there. Stalkers are great for so many reasons, you can never go wrong with a couple. I tend to not take too many, but a few is awesome. And using reincarnation or not is a playstyle thing, I don't think it's bad but it's also not required. I use it sometimes and it's great fun. I also want to give a tip to a tactic I don't feel has been given enough light in this thread, and that is the tactic of bouncing fire. There are two parts to this, and number 1 is to make a habit of really knowing your opposing models Df value and defensive abilities (most importantly Hard to Wound, the other abilities aren't as important in this case). A model with low Df and no defensive ability, standing close (ie within 2"+2blasts, roughly 6") to a model that is harder to hit, for example a master or a Rider-model, are just begging to be the bounce target of a fireball. if it has a Df of 4, all you need is a card with value 1 higher than your opponent to be able to cheat with Ca9. The 2nd part of this is to consider the value of shooting your own guys. Try to see possible lanes of blasting that your opponent might not expect. A Guild Hound running up and standing 3" away from the opponent's master, big support model or sniper is going to be a pretty clear blast target and will likely be dealt with (might still be a good idea, if you can divert their attention), but your bigger model that happens to stand next to three or four models might not be so obvious. It could still be worth sacrificing a 10ss model to blast three 5 pointers. Or even better if it's a model that has some kind of damage mitigation, like a Peacekeeper with armor+2, or a Pale Rider with his defensive trigger, then it will still do the full damage on the blasts but your model will still be around to be a threat. This can be resource intensive, since you might need to cheat both attack, defense and damage (especially if you use a Peacekeeper, then you need 11+ diff between attack and Df to cheat), but it's one of those things that is worth remembering. Other models with blast damage can make use of this too, but noone else can reach 6" of blast-threat with only cheating down a 6 for damage, and noone else can reach Ca9 to do it with.
  17. Sorry to say, but you can't heal the Hooded Rider with the shaman. The shamans spell specifically states that it targets a model with the Black Blood ability , which the hooded rider doesn't have. The shaman can give him the black blood condition but because the spell is worded so specifically to target the ability, you're out of luck there.
  18. Whenever I start looking at a model and think of ways to use it, most of the time it's new models being released, but it can be a new perspective to an existing one as well, I start by looking at synergies and how it combines with other models. That often gives me wild ideas of things the models could do, and gets me all excited for a new build. But then my next step is another criteria I have come to put on my models: it has to be able to perform and do "something" on its own. And thirdly it has to have a cost I'm willing to pay for all that. That's why some models fall for me, its because they are like 70-90% synergy models that perform together with others. But if that other model gets removed it underperforms severly. That's why I tend to not take too many Sorrows or Madnesses, because they don't do enough on their own. I take a few, because they can scheme run and such pretty well, but not too many. That's also why I personally don't like Candy. Because her auras and her denial is freaking incredible, but remove Pandora from the equation, and you have a 9ss model with Ca5 that does bugger all on her own, unless your opponent for some reason runs his models up to her for the fun of it... (again, my own experiences, I know others like her) And that's why I'm the evangelist of Illuminated and Beckoners. They are just such solid models that happen to synergise well with Pandora the way I play her.
  19. So far, I've played it as you can discard several upgrades for stacking bonus, like +6 to a flip if you discard three. Secondly, the one time I've used it so far we decided that since you make a new flip the bonus isn't added if you spend a stone, but re-reading the initiative rules now, it actually states that it is a re-flip, not a new flip, so I think the bonus would apply if you spend a soulstone as well.
  20. There are exceptions to this rule, but even a model that can take a charge action while engaged doesn't suffer a disengaging strike because it's not a Walk action. That is why the distinction is important.
  21. You know that Germinate-markers doesn't actually have the Dense-characteristics? So they don't block Line of Sight, they only provide cover..
  22. Also, look to Illuminated. They are so good it almost feels like cheating when adding them to crews.. They're incredibly durable with armor and healing, they are offensive with a great melee attack and a decent ranged one, and they're pretty fast. I like them alot with Pandora, because she kills anything weak to Wp, they kill what she can't. Also Beckoners are really good with Pandora for several reasons. Lure is always good, sure, their Ca isn't as high as some, but 6 is still respectable, and it's suited. And they have a ranged attack against Wp that doesn't randomize, and if you're also running Illuminated it's gives them +2dmg against the target. Don't put too much thought into the "no cheating"-auras, because those models won't live long after your opponents see what they can do. In my opinion, they are too good and too fragile. Tannen can possibly soak up some good cards while he gets killed, so that might be worth it on it's own..
  23. As a non-master specific tip I think I would either second what others said before and swamp him in either tots or depleted. The tots are fast and for their cost reasonably hard to take out, and the depleted are probably even harder to take out, but aren't as fast on their own. For them, my second tip is adding even more.. the second tip is Beckoners. Using Lure to disrupt his formation could really mess up his plans, if they are too far away from eachother to benefit from the extra rams and stuff. And even better if you can lure them towards you, then quickly engage them in the middle of the board so they can't move back and can't shoot at your other stuff. And including master specific tips, personally I think I would go with Pandora to engage the group as fast as I could. With her terrifying 13 and sort-of-Df7, she should be able to keep them engaged without dying until your crew catches up. Especially if you also take Aether Connection on her. Now, all of this is ofcourse without knowing the rest of your opponents crew, so he could possibly have counters to some of this, that's hard to know..
  24. You mean like in 1.5 when Stiched were rare3 and sold in packs of 2
