SoylentRobot Posted September 20, 2016 Report Posted September 20, 2016 Because it's a Mercenary, the Malifaux Child can copy a whole lot of Casting actions with its Just Like You action. It can be potentially hired by any Master or Henchman crew leader, so I thought it would be useful to make a list of all the possible Casting actions the Child could copy. If an action comes from an upgrade, that's shown by the upgrade's name in parenthesis. This list isn't complete yet because I don't have book 4 just yet. Please let me know if I've made a mistake! Passerine Posted September 23, 2016 Report Posted September 23, 2016 The child with Leveticus would be good if didn't mean you had to replace his waifs. But since since Leveticus got Cuddled he's not so dependent on burning his health, so it might be viable, maybe. Quote
hydranixx Posted September 23, 2016 Report Posted September 23, 2016 A single copy of his Unmaking attack? Even if it hits (you're Ca 4, so it's unlikely) he's probably on a double or triple negative flip for damage and can't use Levi's upgrades. I don't see why that would be worth stones paying for, even if it didn't prevent him taking his two free Waifs. Quote
SoylentRobot Posted September 23, 2016 Author Report Posted September 23, 2016 Yup, Leveticus is probably the worst choice for the Child, but I included him for completeness sake Quote
Eclipse Posted September 23, 2016 Report Posted September 23, 2016 Not only Levi, but also Lynch and Vic of Ashes are where the child would be a very queer choice as well Quote
Freman Posted September 23, 2016 Report Posted September 23, 2016 Ashes' bespoke totem is the Student of Conflict (who is also a Merc and can be taken by everyone). Blood is her Hench(wo)man, so there's nothing peculiar about taking the Child with her. Huggy of course is a totem and Henchman, so taking the Child instead of him would be strange. Quote

It doesn't replace Viktoria of Blood as she is a Henchman not a Totem. Casting Sisters in Fury from a position of safety (and not using up a master AP) is really useful. However, in the late game I usually end up casting it with Viktoria of Ashes anyway as I need my Whirlwind-ing done straight away. I must admit that I've never even tried the Malifaux Child with Leveticus, but as pointed out by Hydranixx it would be a tough choice to replace 2 free Hollow Waifs with something that is more expensive and seemingly less useful. Edit: thanks to SoylentRobot for putting in the hard work for this list. Quote

My mistake there then, I forgot that she is a Henchman, but not a Totem. Similarly to you, an interesting thought I had was replacing Shenlong's Peasants with the Child, if only for the novelty achievement. Never did it for the same reasons. Maybe some day thought... hydranixx Posted September 28, 2016 Report Posted September 28, 2016 I wonder if the once-per-turn stipulation on Whispered Secret would apply to both Molly's version and the Malifaux Child's version of the spell if he copies it from her i.e could they both cast it, or would one not be allowed to cast it if the other already has attempted to cast it this turn? From the Rules Manual, page 37: Quote Once Per Turn Actions Some Actions note that they can only be taken “once per Turn.” This only refers to the individual model. Although the model may only take the Action once per Turn, other models may still take the Action. Note the FAQ, though: Quote 15) Some Actions say they can only be taken once per Turn. If a model takes an Action which states it can only be taken once per Turn and fails, can it take the Action again? What if another model uses an Action such as Obey on the model, can it take the Action again? If a Trigger allows the model to take the Action, can it be used to take the Action a second time? No. A model which has an Action with the “once per Turn” restriction may only take that Action once per Turn. Same answer for Actions which are “once per Activation.” So if Malifaux Child copies the action or takes it itself, then both Malifaux Child and Molly can each take the same "once per turn" action (each model performs the action once). But Molly can't take the "once per turn" action once during her activation and then be caused to take the action a second time later. Quote
hydranixx Posted September 28, 2016 Report Posted September 28, 2016 Even so, the threat of two potential casts of Whispered Secret is intriguing. Quote

SoylentRobot Posted October 7, 2016 Author Report Posted October 7, 2016 thats true, cheers, ive removed Issue Command from the list Quote
Paddywhack Posted October 7, 2016 Report Posted October 7, 2016 Am I crazy? I thought the Child could only copy a friendly Master's abilities? You've got a lot of henchman on that list (Sybelle, Sensie Yu, Sebastian). I don't have the card handy - have I been misreading it this whole time? Never mind. I see you mention if Henchman are leading a crew. I never play that size game. Quote

Yeah, the card says the Child can copy its Leader's cast actions, not Master's, so if youve got a Henchman in charge it'll still work Quote
