  1. I am using a very thin magnetic sheet (same used for fridge magnets) that you can buy in hobby shops here in Hungary. It's less than a $1 for 10x10 cm, fits about 10 30mm bases if you are good, 9 if less precise. You glue it on with intact glue, then carve off the excess if there is any around the base and done! I keep my figures in old cookie tins, they hold stable enough that if you shake the box, they stay put (don't football the box around the block though). The sheet is less than 1mm thick, so it doesn't even raise the base much. There was also a suggestion in a video to use a bit of green stuff and push the tiny magnet in and let it dry, just make sure you level it first so it doesn't hang out. There are extremely tiny, strong magnets on the market as well if you don't mind the cost, they usually are a bit more expensive, but they can be attached with just glue and they'd hold onto a speeding rocket.
  2. Hallöchen again! We are melting in Hungary due to a 40°C heatwave and a drought, so just the usual summer weather. Perfect reason to stay inside a dark room and paint! I'll try to get some more done in July as I'll continue with the Qi and Gong brigade for my partner. I will also touch up Chiyo a little, although won't count her into the challenge but her lack of contrast really annoys me now. Just so we have a pic, here's my the "bin" where I can choose the crew from for this month: Regarding the masterclass, although I just got to "proper" miniature photography (which is nowhere proper yet): 1. I have an IKEA lamp with a 6000K lightbulb (possibly visible from space) and a small magnifying LED lamp that I use. It gives awesome bright, white light, whereas the little lamp makes features softer. Sometimes I use a phone flashlight as well if I need warmer light, but usually these two are enough. I usually do a soft light balance retouch in Lightroom on my phone. 2. I think I prefer high profile backgrounds for now, as the whiteness pops the figures more. I have yet to get proper nice backdrops in the future, right now I use a plain A4 sheet of paper, bent and glued to my painting stand (a cough balm bottle) and the lamp. 3. I take photos with a Xiaomi phone, so whatever it can offer. I usually use the macro setting and play around with the light balance until it's right. I plan to get a proper camera in the future sometime, but currently it's not a prio. 4. I look for clarity on the figure, preferably on the face if it has one or a focal centerpoint of it - similar to portrait photography, ex. from back, I focus on the shoulder of the character or whatever popping feature. This makes the picture believable. Good, WHITE light is important, as yellow light taints the paintjob and does not give back true colors. Other than that, it all depends on the model itself. I also enjoy WIP photos, so people can get a glimpse into other people's slice of creative life, but it really depends on what you want to do with your minis. If you wanna showcase, I prefer backdrops and sharpness. If you want personality and the over-the-shoulder-look, I'm all for WIPs and table-mess.
  3. Again, for mobile ate my text... So, really last-minute pledge, but I have managed to finish up Youko from the Qi and Gong crew, which is going to be my continous pledge for July as well. With Youko done, I have officially finished 20 SS for June. I absolutely loved to paint kimonos for a change of pace with Chiyo and Youko after so much leather and weather for the Wastrels and Seamus. I have tried to capture her soft features from the box (as requested by owner of crew), so I really had to crank my painting game to a new gear. Would you guess this is her 7th iteration of makeup after complete wipe and redo? I am trying to follow traditional Japanese patterns and overall atmosphere for teahouses/bathhouses based on old paintings and guides. I have learned a lot thanks to this model. Her base is made of Fimo Air Light, which is still a useless material for any detailed miniature work.
  4. I do not wish to cheat anyone, it's just that I have 320 pieces of 3d printed condition markers (snuggles to a 30mm base) with a stand-out surface that has the condition name and the condition marker (like a broken bone for injured, flames for burning, etc.). I will probably count the entire thing for 10ss, because I'll probably work as much on the whole batch that I work on a single model (which is currently usually 6-8 hours). But if it is cheaty, I'll just leave it as cannon fodder and not count.
  5. The markers are 3D and "fancy" with the logo of the faction, so I'll count them when I'm painting them as I plan to add a nice gradient to it, not just spraying the thing. I was asking because of the sheer amount of the (also 3D) condition tokens, but I'd be happy to bargain a 10 piece = 5 ss for a month, if that works. Hell, I'd go with 10 piece = 2ss, too.
  6. I might have misunderstood, but I have went out from the case that people don't purposefully stall time. Does this issue happen often? I have played against a nasty Zoraida crew once where the guy took 20 sweet minutes on an activation, because of all the obeys AND he also stalled for time (not letting me play is also a win, I guess). I think some crew schemes and themes couldn't be played out wholly with a deathclock.
  7. I'm a complete newb to this, but reading up on Lord Cooper my immediate idea was Zoraida or any Neverborn who can use the Waldgeists. The guy ignores Cover but not Concealment, you just plant a whole forest wherever you need to hide... Small help, but anything counts on the battlefield. Or really, anyone who can create concealment or blocking terrain for your advantage could help, and as I've seen, Cooper does not even have the Blow 'em to hell ability to easily remove anything like that. @Maniacal_cackle McMourning is delightfully annoying with his whole poison mech, but you'd have to get them close enough to make it work on Cooper and the crew is made of wet paper against him. Unless you own the entire available set for McMourning to find the sweet combo, I think he'd be sniped down before he could do anything. I'd try a Fuhatsu+Samurai enhanced Lucas1 against him (both have 14" range machine guns), just to see how a "nimble" but ranged crew would do against Cooper. Lucas could handle two severe wounds on horse and then one more on foot. It all really depends on the terrain and the schemes, though, Lucas1 is terrible for anything scheme-marker related. Drop a teleporting Huckster in the mix that can jump shadows in a 12" radius and you can tie the dogs/eagles down for a round if you are lucky. Hucksters are also good to steal stones for yourself and they put down 2 scheme markers with the False witness ability, so also good if you need a quick scheming while hiding in the shadows (the only saving grace for McCabe in this regard). I'd just accept defeat against Cooper and then play for tidying up the loss.
  8. We usually go with 2:15-2:30 hour rounds on torunaments in Budapest, Hungary. This leaves usually a longer, about 40 min lunchbreak and two shorter ones. We usually sit there from 11 AM until about 7-8 PM. The pros usually get a full match, I competed as a complete newb and usually got to turn 3 or mid-4.
  9. I have finally started to work on Youko, and I love the color I have managed to mix for her kimono (1 drop Vallejo Hexed Lichen + 2-3 drops of Vallejo French Blue; the highlights contain white and a brushtip worth of silver). These are just basecoats and placement highlights, still a lot to work on, but I wanted to bang my own drum about this royal blue. ❤️ IRL it has a little purple shimmer under the light.
  10. Yet again, corporately blocked sites... It is showing on mobile. They look incredible, love how fleshy the ...well, fleshtones look, it's especially realistically creepy on the long-tongued one. The really long tongued one.
  11. The pictures seem to be broken, at least on my end. o.o
  12. I don't have an airbrush (and will not for a while as we are renting our place), so all pieces will be primed and painted by hand. 😅 Real ant-picking. On a completely unrelated note, the smurf is finally done:
  13. First of all: thank you! Compared to Malifaux figures the space marines are simple like a freaking doorstop, yet I have never spent two freaking weeks on painting a figurine and still not be satisfied of what state it is in! I swear I'd jump into a portal to Tzeentch and offer my soul willingly at this point. The only 40k figure I am interested in are the Mechanicus (especially the potbelly little Manipulus, I think that's just plain adorable <3), and solely as decorative stationary. This was sort of a "commission" from a friend who got a free figure at one of them WH shops and wanted it painted, so he also can have a happy little smurf as paperweight. Good way to learn proper edge highlighting (or at least have a way to practice), but next time I'll only paint smurfs for money...
  14. Pardon for the duplication, but I actually got my hands on a bunch (320 pieces + 25 in fact...) of condition markers and scheme markers. They need to be painted as well. Do they amount to the challenge as well? I'll leave them as long as I am able as the sheer amount of them unnerves me at the moment.
  15. I have to admit, June is not treating me well. There is a lot going on currently on many fronts in my life, so painting became the last thing to care about. I am very slowly progressing with my buddy's smurf which I plan to finish by the weekend. I will pledge Youko only for the rest of the month, totaling a 20 soulstone for June (if I understand that the smurf counts for 5). Have some work in progress photos, he is still missing shading on his left arm and the gun. I also officially bow down to everyone mastering edge highlights, this was a nightmare. First layer of coats and edges, first layer of shading: Current state, with more shading, highlights, edges somewhat cleaned up, base completed. Missing: finishing the backpack, shading on both arms, left pauldron and gun:
  16. We ran into the same issue, Nightmare Kade and Candy were only available as black friday purchases. We bought the "normal" Pandora edition just for these two to get the crew playable. I recommend keeping Kade and finding a Teddy to go with it, they make some disgusting pairing (Teddy's ability to eat an enemy with one bite if you are lucky is just freaky).
  17. Same here, but the contestants didn't even get their sexy little badge either. I assume they will contact everyone once they are back from the Con.
  18. Now that the announcement happened, I can share my entry to Flowers and Showers - Chiyo! The entry (based): The close-ups: I admit the shading on her face/clothes are not as prominent as I wanted it to be, but I'm still pretty proud of how she came out. I enjoyed painting her kimono a lot, especially the sleeves. Now, the rest of the crew follows in June!
  19. Wow, huge thanks and congratulations to all the winners, this was an amazing competition! Can't wait for the next one ;D
  20. My gut feeling immediately tied this guy to the STORY keyword, although I'm unsure if that's a cross-fraction one. A walking ink golem would make a nice addition... Wyrd idea, I know.
  21. Is a chain-Obey actually possible? It does state that the action itself can only target a model once per activation. I think the whole "Zoraida casts Obey on A - A does stuff" is happening in Zoraida's activation (this is a "false activation" as I get, as If this model did not Activate this turn abilities still apply to the model even after an Obey, if they didn't activate, that is). I have only been "obeyed" so far and the Zoraida player didn't try to use a chain-obey.

That's actually the kanji for tanuki 狸. The stand is called 'Tanuki Tanuki', which is oddly fitting and cute for a bunch of tanukis. I'm trying to make out the kanji on the gourd but I assume it should read sake (the first 酒 is definitely sake, but what's the rest? I see a bit of of "strength" and maybe a bit of "earth", but can't put 1+1 together for this one). It's so cool to find a fellow Japanese speaker, albeit I only speak a very little of it as of now.

Thank you mate! ❤️ I have a bunch of close-ups on Chiyo that I plan to drop to my gallery after the announcement, but she does need some more shades. I'll work on her and re-shoot the photos (so she makes a nice tournament piece in the future). Thank you for your sincere and constructive feedback!

Don't be so hard on yourself. The painting on the diorama bits is a little bit textured, but I assume that is because of the material used (it actually fits the flag really well as they are usually made of heavy clothing). Did you make the tree as well? O_O
  25. May the Fate Deck be ever in your favor, huge congratulations!
