  1. Won't get any playtesting in myself. I'm stuck with the coven for now, and really debating whether to expand my neverborn first or branch out to other factions
  2. What's not to love about a Guild Lawyer Werewolf? Definitely see myself stealing this guy to use with Lucius
  3. Oh crud. I just realised something that may throw this entire list down the toilet (or at least back to the drawing board quite heavily): The Freikorps Trapper isn't available separately is he? Call me stingy or poor, but I'm really not relishing the thought of buying a $50 box set for a single model (although if I go with the librarian I guess it's for 2 models. Still pricey IMO)
  4. I wasn't planning on using Burn Out on Lazarus. At all. I mean sure, if a situation comes up where it'll probably win me the game I will, but it's not a go to thing. I'll probably happily burn out Abominations because fuck'em, unless it looks like I'll get to bunch up a whole lot of them, they're just there for annoyance anyway. Fire and forget! The basic plan for Lazarus (barring stuff happening that I need to adapt to) is double-walk forward on turn 1. On turn 2 either use oathkeeper to get into position and fire 3 shots, OR if already in position use oathkeeper to focus and then fire 3 shots. I have no plans on getting Ashes and Dust initially. It's a cool thing. I will be getting it. But for some reason I just don't feel like having it here in the initial lineup. I can't really argue or defend it beyond that. As for the From Ash/From Dust (no you fool, it's called "From The Aether"!) combo. The plan was to do than on turn 1 (Alyce drops a scrap as her 0, Levy turns it into an abomination). Then Levi starts teleporting all over the place like he's supposed to. However, with the Desolate Warping trigger on both of those, as well as on any Abominations I create, and Abominations being... well not the toughest things ever, there will be a lot of scrap laying around without Leveticus needing to hug Alyce. That's what From Ash/From The Aether are intended for: recycling. And of course, as with any Leveticus list: I'm not banking on getting a Desolation Engine, but it'll be a fantastic bonus if it does happen, and more importantly the threat that it MIGHT happen pretty much shuts down ANY idea that my opponent can ignore Abominations to focus on more important things. Although I do see your point. Dropping From Ashes/From Dust basically lets me add another model to my list instead. But what about if I just drop 1 of them. That lets me put the Effigy in the list as well. I feel like From The Aether (which I had misnamed as From Dust) is a lot less demanding, card wise, than From Ash (it needs a 10 instead of a 9, but doesn't need a suit), and Alyce doesn't have a (0) in the first place. However Leveticus is probably more likely to be popping out in places where he has scrap within 6" to transform. But I also (probably) need most of Leveticus' actions to kill and get of Desolate Warping instead. How about something like this? 6 - Pool: 73 - Leveticus (Desolate Soul, Tally Sheet)0 - Hollow Waif0 - Hollow Waif14 - Rusty Alice (From Dust, Desolate Soul)11 - Lazarus (Oathkeeper)6 - Freikorps Trapper6 - Johan 4 - Hodgepodge Effigy This leaves me with 2 open Upgrade slots, 1 on Leveticus, 1 on Johan. The big question here for me is: is it worth it to lower my Pool in order to get one or both of those upgrades? I'm really unsure about how much Soulstone is enough. Although I guess (if I can pull it off) the Effigy kinda takes the edge off there. Would Survivalist on Leveticus be overkill? To my mind it means a fair chance that instead of dying and coming back a waif short, he'll almost die, suicide-summon and still have all his lovely ladies. But is that even necessary? My main opponent DOES tend to play quite killy, as opposed to schemey. Or I could (foolishly I think) decide that Soulstone Pool is for chumps, and go with something like this: 1 - Pool: 24 - Leveticus (Desolate Soul, Tally Sheet, Survivalist)0 - Hollow Waif0 - Hollow Waif14 - Rusty Alice (From Dust, Desolate Soul)11 - Lazarus (Oathkeeper)6 - Freikorps Trapper7 - Johan (Oathkeeper) 7 - Freikorps Librarian In this list the Librarian is good for healing with the Burn Out, I guess, but (to my mind more importantly) it can also babysit Alyce herself a little bit, to keep her healthy. Which she will need, because now stoning away damage is pretty much off the table.
  5. Messing around with a starting Leveticus list. By that I mean (once I finalise the list) that I will buy the models for this particular list, play it, and then expand my (outcast + pariahable) collection tweaking it from there. I currently play Neverborn 3 and have a few models there, so not really much cross-applicability. For my first list I don't want to dive in and go crazy with Pariah. I see loads of potential fun there, but for now let's stick with just the Outcasts. I want to go abomination heavy, but also not hire any abominations (unless I just happen to end up sitting on 4 spare SS). That means Leveticus' and Alyce's main jobs will be "summoning Abominations" and "killing things to summon Abominations". I need my 3 anchors. Alyce goes first. A construct would be nice, as I like scrap better than I do corpses. Some tough ranged support maybe? And definitely a beatstick. What I've come up with so far is this: 6 - Pool: 7 5 - Leveticus (From Ash, Desolate Soul, Tally Sheet) 0 - Hollow Waif 0 - Hollow Waif 14 - Rusty Alice (From Dust, Desolate Soul) 11 - Lazarus (Oathkeeper) 6 - Freikorps Trapper 6 - Johan This leaves me with 2 stones left over (or my count is off). I COULD stick an upgrade on Johan, but the only one that really seems attractive here is Oathkeeper, which then leaves me with 1 SS I literally cannot spend (all upgrade slots filled, already maxed out SS pool). The easy fix would be to switch the Trapper for a Hans, which was actually the previous incarnation of this crew, but I really like the Trapper better as he can also be in position to do a bit of scheming. Speaking of which, yes I realise this list has no dedicated scheme runners. Abominations can serve (poorly) as that if need be, but really the idea is that I'll pick whichever schemes available I think I can pull off the best with this particular list. It's made to be a playable list, but "this stuff is cool" IS being weighted slightly higher than optimisation. I will probably never see the inside of a tournament, and our casual games lean more toward slightly house-ruled story encounters than standard ones. So what do I do? I really don't want a SS going to waste. I really like the elements I currently have in the crew. Only thing I can think off is to drop 2 from my pool and get a 4-stone model. Maybe the Effigy? But between keeping Alyce alive and needing suits galore for all my summoning and murder-summoning, I reel like a 5 pool is scary. Is it? I'm a complete beginner here. Is 5 pool plenty? Is it stupid and suicide? Am I overthinking this?
  6. BBS over doppel because everything in the list has black blood, letting the shamen do decent amounts of AOE damage, some insane buffs and possibly heals to my big important elite beatsticks. With this few models I wasn't planning on blood sacrificing Killjoy in. Instead he would start om table close to Lilith > something else (Nekima or Mature) runs forward as far as they can > Lilith moves forward and uses Tangled Shadows to swap Killjoy for whatever ran forward. All of this (and this is the important part!) BEFORE Killjoy activates. Positioned right, Killjoy won't be close enough to any of my things that he'll be forced to charge, and can move up to be a threat. MAYBE he'll even be in a position to get a (1) Charge off, but I wouldn't bank on my opponent rushing anything forward like that (especially not with the activation advantage most likely being significantly in his favour). And even if I do get it off, I definitely wouldn't expect it to ever happen again in a subsequent game. So it's positioning, not a surprise Killjoy charge.
  7. (Figured this should be in the proper subforum) Working on a swamp table for my first set of Malifaux terrain. Have a beautiful Deepcut studios mat on the way, and making some terrain pieces to go with it. Group shot of what I have so far (will be updated as that expands) Done so far: Alligator Statue (Ht 1 blocking/hard cover/severe) Serpent Statue (Ht 3 blocking/hard cover/impassible) A standalone tree (Ht 5 blocking/hard cover/impassible) A 12" straight river section (Ht 0 severe) Picture coming Soon(TM) An oval pond/lake about 9x7" at the biggest points, which can either be used standalone or connected to rivers (Ht 0 severe) with a small "boat bridge" (Ht 1, possibly 2, vantage point) Picture coming Soon(TM) A forest of "reeds" about 8x4" (Ht 4 dense/soft cover/severe) In the working: Another 12" straight river section (Ht 0 severe) with a tree around midway (Ht 5 blocking/hard cover/impassible) Have a small stack of wooden crates that just needs a decent paintjob and they'll go just fine on any Malifaux table (and speaking of that, I need to find a good way to paint Guild insignia for those) Planned: Raised swamp hut to optionally go in the middle of the pond (Ht ? blocking/hard cover/enclosed) 1 or 2 more standalone trees 45 degree river section (possibly 2) "split" river section 1 or 2 free-standing "walkways" which can optionally be used as bridge across river sections Stonework ruins, halfway sunk into the swamp (Ht 2-3-4, blocking/hard cover/climbable) To go with the ruins: a few toppled pillars (Ht 1, blocking/hard cover) Appropriately sized toy animals (snakes, gators and maybe some tentacles) to place on terrain pieces to indicate hazardous terrain. Possible ideas: Another, non-raised, swamp shack Another "reed forest" Guild drainage pump station, attempting to lower the swamp for exploitation purposes Sewage/drainage pipe coming in from off-table and ending in a pool of Ht 0, severe/hazardous sludge "Hills" or more accurately just wide areas of shored up/reinforced "raised ground" (would basically just serve as a large area where the play area is raised 1", so technically vantage point and probably blocking/hard cover as well) A small (smaller than Ht 1) hillock with a hole/tunnel leading into it, on a fairly wide base. Thinking a "monster lair" terrain piece that has no other effect than Hazardous. Very happy to take some feedback/input, as well as ideas for other cool things that might be found in the Malifaux Bayou!
  8. Haven't gotten my hands on any of their Malifaux-appropriate stuff yet, but these guys make gorgeous looking stuff: https://www.facebook.com/groups/WLterrain/ I DO have the chinatown line from them, and it's pretty great. Well cut, nicely detailed. I was apprehensive at first. They are based in Ukraine, do not actually have a website/shop (they only accept order through facebook) and would only accept payment through some transfer service I had never heard of. All in all enough to give pause to anyone. I decided to risk it and go ahead, however, and they were just fine to deal with. The only issue I had was a slight mispack snafu, which was quickly rectified by them without any fuss.
  9. Did some messing around with this idea, and here's what I came up with for my own take on this: *Lilith -Beckon Malifaux -Living Blade -On Wings of Darkness *Nekima -The Mimic's Blessing *Mature Nephilim -The Mimic's Blessing *Killjoy *Black Blood Shaman 4 SS Pool Kinda teeter-tottering on whether to give Lilith On Wings of Darkness or Wicked Mistress.... charge over terrain without LOS, or lure enemies into forest and murder them. Decisions, decisions...!
  10. I don't know the game well enough to declare a singular "strongest". But looking at Titania and what her themed crew/options have of synergies, I fully expect her to emerge over the next year or so as a VERY dominant Master
  11. The original post mentions Seamus as being a cross between Jack the Ripper and the Mad Hatter. I'd say yes, but with more than a tiny splash of DC's The Joker thrown in there as well.
  12. That is a disgusting crew! I always feel like I'm going "too elite" if I don't have at least 7 models, and even that feels a bit short. Screw it! I'm going to take inspiration from this and try fielding a beat-sticky elite crew myself! Will have to proxy as all hell, but that's not an issue with the people I play with. What are your plans, in a crew like that, to not get completely screwed over by number of activations? Seems like it would be easy for our opponent to just activate chaff and bait until we've moved all our dudes, THEN strike with their 1-2 big beaters and hope for initiative on the following turn (or just charge right in if we took the bait already and went after any of their chaff models). How do you plan on getting around that? I want to steal your strats here.
