  1. Woh woh woh... what are these high end resin kits "on par" that you speak of and where can I get them? lol The large kits and a lot of the very elaborate ones are beyond what most other companies produce. Haters? oO I have so many minis from so many companies and don't see a par, at all. Maybe you could explain why you think they are? I see par as Basix or MicroArts bases - so go from there. All I see from forgeworld is "premium." The only company I have yet to handle their stuff that I'm interested in is Infamy. Other than that I know what the resin offered looks and feels like... and I just don't see that "par." The only two companies that I have found that come close to FW is Mierce and Outlaw (Scibor is getting surprisingly good too, actually - dwarfs and ogres in particular are fantastic) - the resin these companies all use is much more consistent, smooth surfaces and deep details and there is less clean up (or even repair) then any other I've experienced but FW still pushes ahead - at least in my experience. Not sure where these magically amazing minis you guys speak of are but I have not had the same luck in finding them - a lot of resin kits come to you porous as hell, rough, and more bubbles than you can count. Them renders can be awefully deceptive. RobLo - Like I said in my original post - couldn't care less about the game from a hobbyist perspective, I'd say the game represents 10% of my hobby or less and 0% of my "giving a f*ck" -o-meter - so take what I said from that perspective. If its srs then give'r but if its a party game, I'll take it for what it is or just look at how pretty they are and take pictures. I guess that's why I don't get all the hate (unless its directed towards their company attitude?) they are a hobby comapny and from a hobbyist perspective, all I can say is that its above average in cost but I'm happy overall. /shrug If you don't like the game and choose to use their minis in your KoW games then I'd say that's win for them as well. It just strikes me as odd that other people went into the GeeDubs stores, looked at all of the set ups and displays... and wanted to play a game. Not following the train of thought - Kadeton has given me a pretty decent idea of gamer logic in a past post so I guess I kinda get it but I am forced to shrug again. /shrug
  2. Justin nailed it on the first page. ITT: An overwhelming majority of people who are more focused on the game rather than the hobby. Granted its a review of the rules, but their is an important consideration missing. Whenever I hear complaints about GeeDubs its always "the game" and "the cost" (or "they are jerks" or whatever). What people are forgetting is that they have consistently produced the most high quality line(s) of models over a considerable number of years (so long as you like big hands and big heads ). Add to that - Forgeworld produces, easily, the highest quality miniatures of any company - mindblowingly good stuff. It's never the hobby aspects that get complained over - its always the game and the cost. If you want a balanced tournament level game there are options out there (like Malifaux) but there's nothing quite like having two very well painted and modeled armies (armies!!!) facing off against eah other - its epic. I like to powergame as much as the next jerk but that's why I played Magic on the side all those years ago. WFB was always first and foremost "hobby." When I went into a store years ago I didn't buy "the game" to play - I bought the models to make look friggin' sweet. I saw the displays and I was sold on the idea of the hobby alone. The game is just something to do with all our pretty models afterwards - more to show them off than anything. If I was a "game first" type person - I would have never even gotten into this hobby at all - so much easier to just play good ol' vidyas or boredgames. AoS is an excuse to show off my minis - beyond that I am indifferent and have other options for tourney play. Also, I just got an email about the new (free) Chaos Dwarf list from Forgeworld. We survived the end of the world! And life is good. This is a hobby people - not just a "game." Go ahead and make up your own damn rules for all we care so long as you throw them pretty models on the table. Whatever then, play some other company's game - but you know you want to play with these pretty pretty models.
  3. It's okay.... I thought that the Drowned would look like those found on the arsenal deck cards. So I'm a bit surprised. I like how he looks like a "floater" though. I was really looking forward to the one that looks like he is under the water being held at the bottom by a concrete weight but still floating kinda.
  4. These are excellent points. I'd hate to say it but with Infinity and Warmahordes - Wyrd probably has a better chance invading the "epic" scale format - which is why I feel I won't be interested but would definently not be surprised if thats the case. Less serious competition... making a game meant to directly compete with 40k or WMH might be suicide... I'd much rather compete with Dropzone and FoW, if I had the choice. Similarly, with WMH being so established already, I see difficulty in attracting players when a "better" or more widely established game is already available. Personal example - I don't really want to play AoS all that much but I have far too much chaos dwarf stuff so I'm just not switching to another system ever based on practicality alone. And big hats, I guess, too.
  5. What henchmen do is consistently look better than their affiliated master, on average. ----- Wyrd has a Henchmen Program page on their website - I'd start by looking up details there.
  6. Math's post nails exactly how I feel about the schemes. Outflank and Protect Territory could be removed from the game and I wouldn't miss them at all. Protect Territory can only be denied constantly by board wipes and is a lame unexciting auto include whenever it comes up. Even with Ashes, if your opponent sniffs out your outflank you are screwed. The other ones Math mentions are what I consider the "gimmicky bullshit" schemes - ones that are average for most but laughingly simple for some masters - not much you can do about that. Spring the Trap is practically as useless in the game as Outflank but JD laughs at it (therefore I consider it gimmicky and can nail it consistently because no one thinks you'd ever take trap). I'm not a fan of distract and I think its just an AP sink, but my opinion I guess. Frame is a good in theory but in actuality it doesn't achieve what it seems to want to do. If you cater around not killing your opponent's models if you have a killy crew, you are screwing yourself more than if you just bite the bullet, play normally to your strengths and accept the 3vp loss. As such, I think of it as an unfun "penality" rather than a legit scheme. I ignore it and move on - from what I understand this is a common view - so I find it unfun, regardless. The rest are pretty legit - not a fan of LitS but I have taken it from time to time. From what I can tell, the rest of the opinions about schemes vary from player to player, besides outflank (spring trap, imo) and protect territory. The game would be much more challenging and overall better without them taking up potential scheme slots. I roll my eyes everytime Pro Terra comes up. It is rhe worst scheme in the game... Breakthrough is totally legit though.
  7. Well then... and here I thought MythicFox went on a ninja machinegun bahleetion rampage of my posts again. Sucky, but what can you do? Oh, and with all these updates, can we get a "dislike" button in the forums too?
  8. I've always kinda seen options as a half measure - with conversions you can literally do whatever you want. Come on people - get creative and put some effort in! I do appreciate options when it comes to models like the Nightmare Teddy - options with models like Miss Anne are a bit meh - esecially when you have the male/female build kits. Her spare hats are going to some models I deem more worthy, though.
  9. Dirial's suggestions are solid. Get Levy crew box and add Ashes and DE. From there you can expand however you want. If you feel like you want to powergame/get into Arcanists eventually - go Iron. If you want floating heads dragging their organs and dead hookers (of course you do) go bone. With Tara I'd suggest buying a Tara box and a Von Schill box. Then - Johan, Taelor, Killjoy and Bishop should round out a roster that is more than capable. From a solid core crew you can then expand in any direction you choose to. You will not regret buying a Von Schill box... at least not until you have to put the steam trunk together, anyway.
  10. Sigh... I was signed up and had everything scheduled then decided to drop out two days ago. Two reasons: (1) Work related involving a ton of OT (all about the Benjamins) and a "no vacation time" policy for the next 4 months and (2) the fact that Tough Mudder Alberta is going on the same weekend and requires me to take no extra time off at all. I've done two major conventions this year but only one TM. That's the way she goes... I consider it balancing my life. Have fun everybody - wish I could do both. ---------- MVBrandt/Mr. Matt Stanley - Will my "store credit" (that I got from dropping events) transfer over to next year when I actually can go? I'm not getting a response from novaopen@gmail.com. Thanks.
  11. Nonsense, the word Sh'long has been deleted and MythicFox enjoys evaporating my more provocative posts. I choose to believe it is because he just doesn't understand my unique feelings about particular subjects and won't allow me to express myself in questionable ways. Also, the forum clean up is cool but mobile mode is pretty much useless until the response field isn't white text on white background. Everything else looks good.
  12. 100% Geek + 100% Hard as Fuck! >8)

  13. You, sir, are crazy. Buy them from Micro Arts - they are cheap and come in three sizes. Pick your battles - scratch building barrels is not a good choice, hehe.
  14. Holy shit... I had a feeling we were the same person when you revealed your crazy enough to do stroke by stroke fur but now I am sure we are the same person. I've "watched" Nightmare Before Christmas over 100 times and I marathon my favorite TV shows - specifically Spartacus (no surprise, I'm sure), or my most favorite of all time - Tales From the Crypt. I think I've gone through all 7 seasons of Tales over 10 times back to back I'm sure (the british season sucks, btw ). I can't watch anything I've never seen before because its distracting. I also marathon a bunch of my favorite horror films. Best of all, with Tales I know exactly when to look up for my favorite parts (including any nudity, of cooooouuuurse >8) ). Like when Kyle McLaughlin's hand rips off and he falls to his eminent demise in "Carrion Death". 10-4 asshole, indeed. Or when Joe Pesci gets "shared" by twins. Or when Demi Moore gets violently stabbed to death... mostly because I don't like her. But my favorite Tales of all time? " 'Til Death" - if it has voodoo in it chances are its wins for me by default. Other than that it is podcasts and music when I'm not in the mood for movie/tv noise. I also watch a bunch of my favorite anime too - Berserk, Hellsing, FMA, etc. Oh and hey - Fate/Zero? Good pick! EDIT: Oh, and Starship Troopers? I can watch that shit in my head - I don't even need the background noise.
  15. Sounds like hard mode - the new micro arts bases are beyond fantastic. I just received my kickstarters bundle and am most pleased - highly recommended.
  16. Urban slang - Sh'long. Most excellent. I'll even like it myself.
  17. I dunno, I think Sh long shall suffice (maybe Shenlong?) - much like Klown so you're not saying penguin. :/ I figure Sh is short for Shen and then you just add the rest. At least, that's how I justify it within a reasonable non-offensive degree.
  18. Woh woh woh... whenever I type Sh long into the forum it auto corrects to Shenlong! I don't like this game - not fair! /pout I do believe that it is in fact Wyrd's fault for naming him that and not anticipating the potential exploitable nature of the name. I take no responsibility.
  19. It certainly is. Lots of modelling potential with that one. You just wait. Remember, the thing is that if they give you a bunch of stuff you can always decide what you want to do with it and take away what you don't like. When they give you Shenlong - then you're just kinda screwed. See what I did thar? Just want to make sure that Wyrd knows I appreciate the extra excess in opposition to all the plain masters. The Hamelin crew is actually solid overall - can't wait for the rat pack. >8)
  20. When I think about it... other than 10T - Guild/NB are the two last decks I'd want to have. >8) Gimme them sweet Arcanist/Gremlins. Pretty please, or whatevs.
  21. What I am wondering most of all is how many Malifaux models can serve as proxies or direct "comversion." I understand that the games won't be compatible, but a model is a model. That may sway my reluctance to start a new game.
  22. Gonna throw my vote in for the scale "issue" too. I'm almost positive I don't see myself playing a new game anyway but I might buy some models just to paint - if it is epic 40k/dropzone style count me out for good. Aaron said its normal scale anyway so it should be cool.
  23. So as it turns out - Hamelin is actually a combo breaker for the "boring master" situation I find myself in. His new plastic is actually really awesome and that big cloud of scary shit is much better IRL than it looks in the renders. In fact, it is the perfect proxy for hungering darkness. Hamelin, himself, has a dynamic pose and an interesting, unique face + he is large enough and detailed enough to be able to paint him with ease. Seriously though, don't let the render fool you - the new hungering darkness is awesome - I would never use him with Hamelin (its friggin' huge) but you best believe that its going on a fiddy as the new Huggy.
  24. It's going to make one big dude. Otherwise maybe the other Johan is just really tiny? How big is everyone's Johan (no homo )? Which one is the messed up one? The big guy is going to be really tough to put on a thirty but the little one is actually really really damn small - no way am I getting that face painted up half decent without just converting it out (which is what I was going to do). EDIT: I lied - the big one was from the brewmaster sprue not the wong sprue.
  25. I pulled my Wong out today (for reals) and low and behold I found a plastic Johan attached to it. Yeay, lucky me right (my second of which will not be replacing my metal one )? It wasn't just any Johan though... Pictured is the free Wong pull on the left and the actual normal version on the right. You can't see it for comparison but I'm willing to bet that Johan isn't supposed to be as big as Killjoy and have trouble fitting on a fiddy. At least this way I'll be able to paint his eyes. Expect a possibly klown related conversion inc with that big boy... and no Wyrd, you can't have it back. Hey Panzer, can you deal with that big hammer?
