  1. I'd like to echo SurreyLee's thoughts above. It was my first Malifaux event and has definitely left me wanting to play in more.
  2. The mannequin is awesome, very Voldo indeed. I quite like Colette also, she has something of the artful dodger about her. Must. Not. Start. Arcanists
  3. I'll be taking Lynch as neverborn. My name is Dan Tetley. Also, although we are not members of a club I will be travelling with James Harvey and Shaun Tetley (my 2 regular opponents). If we could avoid each other in the first round that would be great. Cheers
  4. These are amazing!! Love me a Monday preview and I think this is the best one yet!
  5. This bayou doctor idea is all kinds of awesome. I love the pig with Sebastian's face, just the right level of weird for me!!

Hey, are you guys on this Tuesday? I may pop down for a game.
  7. This sounds like a lot of fun and I will be following your progress. Who knows I may be inspired to write the campaign I've been threatening for years!!
  8. Recently I've been thinking about Lynch for interference. Depleted get positive flips to disengage and their Ml goes up to 5, they are also hard to wound and kill (and at only 4 stones). This I imagine will set them up nicely for keeping enemy models engaged. Beckoners have lure/push shenanigans which could also help with engaging enemies and disengaging themselves/friendly models. Huggy has a 3" engagement range. I appreciate this is a bit double edged but used carefully could be epic. I have yet to play interference but these are my early thoughts.

    candy?

To be fair his hand had been pretty drained (lots of terrifying and manipulative duels) and he did use a soulstone to prevent but only reduced the damage from wail to 1 and so there was nothing he could do about the condition. It was the first time my opponent had faced Candy and so a bit of it may have been inexperience on his part and not being fully aware of what she could do. I appreciate that what happened was a best case scenario, but I was merely trying to illustrate Candy's potential as the original post was asking to be convinced about why she was good.

    candy?

I used Candy for the first time today on Vassal and I have to say I'm impressed. In turn two she was activated late in the turn. She used her ranged Ca ability (wail I think) to target Francisco (who had already activated) and hit the trigger meaning I could choose when to activate him the following turn. She then used her final 2AP to charge Francisco and used his own Ml attack to take him down to his hard to kill threshold. At the beginning of the next turn I obviously chose to force my opponent to activate Francisco first, paralysing him and allowing me to dispatch him at my leisure!!!
  11. To be fair that does seem a popular opinion and I fully intend to go back to trying it out, but both neverborn and Lynch are brand new to me (new faction for a new year and all that!!) and so I am just in the stages of learning what my models do. Having to be extra careful about activation order etc. is just a headache for me right now. Anyway I didn't mean to derail the thread. Back on topic I fully echo what Joel said regarding Ronin. Armour appears to be the bane of my life since moving away from my beloved Outcasts!!
  12. To be honest I hated it at first but I think the more games I play with it the more it's growing on me. That said I would buy a nightmare huggy in a heartbeat!!
  13. Ok. I was just trying to clarify as until the FAQ I had personally played it wrong (skim reading cards is the bane of my life!!). It went from being an auto include on Huggy to an upgrade I barely use these days
  14. Fears given form also forces tests from friendly models. It's in the FAQ/errata I believe
  15. Hi, I am beginning to think about my 100SS pool for this and have a quick question regarding mercenaries. Do I pay the "mercenary tax" in the pool or do I only pay the extra soulstone when hiring the mercenary into the crew? I've checked the rules pack and can't find anything about this and as it's due to be my first tournament I don't have any prior experience to fall back on!!
  16. Thanks for the quick response ezyryder. So just to clarify (as my initial question was worded poorly), armour would still reduce damage done via the voodoo dolls hem ability. Thanks again Dan
  17. I have just had my first game with Zoraida and I have to say I had a blast!!! The ol' gal has some mad skills. One question did crop up however, does damage done via voodoo doll get reduced by armour etc? For example if my voodoo doll suffered 4 damage and Gracie was the hemmed model, would Gracie suffer 2 or 4 damage?

Ok no worries. I'll try and make it down in the new year.

Is this still going on? I'm thinking of seeing if I can make it down this Tuesday.

What time does it begin and end? I live in Plymouth and as there is no "scene" as such here (at least not one I'm aware of) I may try and pop down. It's a 2+ hour round trip though so I don't want to get there just to have to turn round and come back
  21. I am completely on board with having a set of guidelines in order to deal with certain situations that may arise out of the mistakes made. A TO "handbook" if you will What I was saying is I just think potentially excluding people based on them making mistakes seems harsh, I agree with McDoodle that the kinds of punishment being talked about seem more in line with punishing cheating. @mcdoodle - I have every faith that the scene is all it's cracked up to be That's why I don't want to be excluded for making mistakes!!
  22. As a new player (I will be attending my first tournaments in 2015) I can say that the "new player fallacy" is not entirely a fallacy. This blacklisting/penalising makes me feel quite uncomfortable. As a relatively new player I am assuming that I will make some mistakes (this is after all how we learn) but by this token if I make 3 in a year I will be suspended from the rankings. Surely there is a better way to deal with mistakes "in tournament". For example if you record a scheme incorrectly, you don't score from the scheme. This penalises the player for the mistake without ostracising them for it. Also, what happens to players who are removed from the rankings? How will ranked tournaments work if some players are ranked and others not? Will this mean if you make 3 mistakes you are no longer allowed to attend ranked tournaments? This seems a harsh penalty for making a few mistakes and will lead to a lot of ill feeling methinks. One of the reasons I want to get into the tournament scene is that through forums, podcasts etc. it comes across as a really friendly scene, in my mind this seems contrary to the spirit of that. Just my two cents
  23. When I was trying to get my gaming group interested in Malifaux, we played 35SS and stripped back the standard encounter to only include the strategy and no schemes. We then introduced schemes one at a time, before beginning to increase the size of our games. I think having one objective and not three, helped us to grasp the core rule set quicker and also helped us form opinions on what play style most interested us (turns out only one of us stayed with the faction they were initially interested in). Malifaux is quite complex tactically, but the core rules are fairly simple. By stripping back the tactical aspect to begin with, it will allow your new player a better understanding of what he is doing and hopefully mean he returns for more. Edit - I realise this in no way relates to Yan Lo, but let's face it if your friend enjoys the core game he's probably gonna end up with about 5 crews anyway!!!
  24. You can only have one limited upgrade regardless of if it's a master or not. Unfortunately this means you can only pick one of Levi's pariah upgrades.
