  1. I have mixed feelings on the "best answer" green check in the forums. On one hand it is great to have some feedback from Wyrd to settle thorny issues. On the other hand. Wyrd stopped responding in forums when M2E came out since people had to search for forums for answers to rules questions. I could be very difficult to find the right answer and not practical during a game. All official responses come from the FAQ so you have one source to check and it is easily referenced during a game or tournament. Now we're getting back into the same situation. According to Wyrd the responses are not official, but they are marking the best answer and locking the tread so no further discussion can take place. Is that really different? IMHO: If the community cannot come to a consensus on a question and Wyrd thinks it is important enough to be addressed it should be in the FAQ. Thanks
  2. When our group uses terrain like in the second picture we always treat each straight line section of the wall a a separate piece of terrain for LoS/Cover purposes and as one piece for Scheme purposes.

  4. Sat, April 23rd 2016 Malifaux M2E Tournament Ascendancy 2 PFC Games 7528 Olympic View Dive Suite #106, Edmonds, WA 98026 (425) 670-0550 I plan on hosting a Malifaux tournament the fourth Saturday of Every month (except August and December 2016) at PFC games. Formats will vary depending on feedback. Most tournaments will be 50 SS fixed faction or “something different”. This event will follow the guidelines in Gaining Grounds 2016, with the following exceptions; Proxy, Conversion, and Painting Rules · Proxy models are not allowed if Wyrd has released the model (not counting limited releases like the Black Friday sales). Proxies are allowed for unreleased models as long as they are appropriate representations of the model they stand for. Wyrd models may only be used to represent what they are, unless they are converted. Please check in advance with the organizer for suitability. · Conversions are an excellent way to show off your modeling skills. If using a model that was converted with pre-made bits, only 30% of the model may be built from other game companies’ models, while the rest has to be self-sculpted or Wyrd bits. · Models must be assembled (glued) and fixed to the appropriate size base. However, there will be a prize for the best painted model (see below). Entry Fee $3 entry fee (waived for PFC members). Schedule Noon Registration 12:30 Round 1 Begins The tournament will consist of three 105 minute rounds with ~15 minutes between rounds. Crew Construction 50 SS, Single Faction Prizes Prizes will be awarded by lottery. Additional chances to win for: · Best General (Winner of the tournament) · Best Sportsmanship (voted by opponents) · Best Painted Army (voted by participants) · Fully Painted Crew (including bases) Setup Strategies and deployments have been predetermined (see below). For Corner and Flank deployments players will deploy in the left hand corner when facing the table. · Round 1 – Reconnoiter, Flank Deployment · Round 2 – Extraction, Standard Deployment · Round 3 – Collect the Bounty, Close Deployment We will be using the Gaining Grounds 2016 scheme table. At the start of each round a common scheme pool will be announced that will be used by every table that round. Terrain Terrain will be placed in advance by the TO and may not be moved by the players. Please be sure to clarify any terrain questions with the TO before the match begins. For encounter purposes (e.g. Plant Evidence) all terrain on a base is considered a single piece of terrain even if it is broken into multiple parts for LoS and/or cover purposes. · Buildings, Flat Roof: Ht is roof in inches (round down), Enclosed, Climbable, Blocking, Hard Cover. · Buildings, Sloped Roof: Ht is highest point in inches (round down), Impassable, Blocking, Hard Cover. · Forested Area Terrain: Ht 2, Sever, Dense, Soft Cover. · Lava: Ht 0, Sever, Hazardous and gives Burning +2. · Linear Obstacles, Hard (low stone walls 1” or less high/across): Ht 1, Blocking, Hard Cover. For ease of play, it costs 1” of extra movement to cross these obstacles. · Linear Obstacles, Soft (fences and hedges 1” or less high/across): Ht 1, Blocking, Soft Cover. For ease of play, it costs 1” of extra movement to cross these obstacles. · Ruined Walls: Ht is highest point in inches (round down), Climbable, Blocking, Hard Cover. Use the complex terrain guidelines so each section of wall is considered a separate piece of terrain for cover purposes only. Define the wall by where the base of the wall touches the ground, not the base the wall is mounted on. · Trees: Ht 5, Impassable, Blocking, Hard Cover. · Water Features (Rivers, Lakes): Ht 0, Severe. Strategies Reckoning (Crow Core) "Only one of us walks away from this alive," Perdita spoke through gritted teeth as she angled her shoulders to give the other woman a smaller target. A single index finger tickled the well-worn grip of her Peacebringer. Tara laughed, "Oh hun, I wouldn't call me alive, exactly." Victory Points At the end of every Turn, after the first, a Crew earns 1 VP if it killed or sacrificed two or more enemy models during that Turn. At the end of every Turn after the first, if a player has no models in play (buried models are not considered "in play") then her opponent earns 1 VP. A player may not earn more than 1 VP from this Strategy per Turn. Extraction (Ram GG) Rumor was he discovered something valuable during his last excavation, something that anyone would kill for. It's our job to make sure we're the only ones who hear what he has to say. Set up Place an Informant Marker at the Center of the table. Special Rules At the end of every Turn after the first, after scoring VP, the player with the most non-Peon models within 6" of the Informant Marker may place the Marker up to 3" from its current location, not into terrain or base contact with a model. Victory Points At the end of each Turn after the first, a Crew earns 1 VP if it has two or more non-Peon models within 6" of the Informant Marker. Collect the Bounty (Jokers GG) "You're telling me that thing is only worth 10 Scrip?" he whined. "That's what I'm telling you." "It's one of those Hanged! No WAY that's only worth 10 Scrip!" "I don't make the rules, bud. Take it or leave it." Special: Whenever a model is reduced to 0 Wounds by a non- Peon model, the Crew which reduced it to 0 Wounds gains a number of Bounty Points depending on the type of model which was reduced to 0 Wounds, so long as the Crew considered the model an enemy. Models are worth the following number of Bounty Points: Peons: 0 Minions: 1 Enforcers: 2 Henchmen: 3 Masters: 4 At the end of each Turn, after calculating VP, reset each player to 0 Bounty Points. Victory Points At the end of every Turn after the first, the player with the most Bounty Points scores 1 VP. Either player may also score 1 VP if the opposing player has no models left in play. No more than 1 VP may be scored from this strategy per Turn. If both players still have models in play and they are tied for Bounty Points, neither will score any VP.
  5. Guess I missed that. Explains the proxy rules in GG2016.
  6. Does that include avatar models or just the "official play" models?
  7. I placed an order for $200+ and it doesn't show the two free models on my order. I checked my old orders and the free promos are listed. Is this an issue, or is that normal?
  8. The three TT models finish off Wave 2 for them. I'm not as familiar (and too lazy to check) the rest of the factions. I'm curious does anyone know if there are any wave 1 or 2 models that are not out (at least as a pre-release) yet? Edit: I really need to proofread my stuff.
  9. Correct, except it is actions that have a range of 0". Also keep in mind if you Prompt a paralyzed model to take a they will take the action, but will have to be in base contact with the target to be in range to hit the target with the action.
  10. Yeah. That story was the first time I felt "bad" about my faction. I know they were Mafia, but I always saw them more like freedom fighters doing what the had to to protect the Three Kingdoms and stand up to the guild. But I guess they are more like the Mafia, out for themselves with no regard for the rest of the Three Kingdoms. Not heroic in my eyes.
  11. I'd make your proxies and paint up the official models. Carry them both around as a backup if a TO won't let you use your proxies.
  12. Looks like Taelor does need LoS, and since Dismounted McCabe is summoned before the dead McCabe leaves play I would say your idea works.
  13. I might have to try a Smoke and Shadows list in our next campaign. I like to take models I either don't like or just haven't figured out how to use yet in campaigns. It forces me to figure out how to use them better. I also like to take models that are "missing" a key component (say Archers with no Blot the Sky) so I have to figure out how to use them in ways I'm not used to. I never take Torakage (don't fit my play style) or Oiran (IMHO there is always a better option for the points) I think a Yamziko, Smoke & Shadows, Hidden Agenda, Oiran and Torakage list to start will be perfect for my next campaign.
  14. The closest thing I've found is Pandora's Fading Memory, which happens "after this model wins". I think can can consider "after this model wins" and "when this model succeeds" (from Sensei Yu's Brutal) to mean the same thing. I'd say Brutal would take effect immediately before Fading Memory ("when" vs. "after") when resolving a Duel. The FAQ does address the resolution of Fading Memory. It occurs immediately after success, and Brutal would occur immediately prior to that. Brutal is definitely performed before any triggers, but is it before or after the results of the duel are applied? I'd say before. This is the only rule I could find about the timing of the resolution of a Duel with regards to the timing of the success. To me it seem like "when this model succeeds" would be when success or failure is determined. The next step is ti discard cards used in the duel, then the results are resolved. I'm not 100% sure of that though. EDIT: Was typing my response when Adran replied, and didn't see it till after posting. It seems we are in agreement.
  15. I'd say we are at an impasse. Both views are sound and there is no strong evidence to support either side.
  16. I see your point, and I agree that you do need a mechanic to change the order of actions if the resolution order is restricted. There are some Actions that clearly state "Do X and then do Y" (e.g. Rush of Magic). They have a mechanic applied to them that says you must do the effects in a specific order. So there is a mechanic used to restrict resolution order, and had been explicitly applied to some Actions. Other Actions say "Do X and do Y" (e.g. Stones on the River) there is no explicit restriction on the resolution order. So in my option there is no need for a mechanic to alter the resolution order since none has been specified. I think we understand each other. Where we differs is you say there is an implied restriction on the resolution order. I say there is no general rule restricting resolution order, so I am free to resolve in the order I choose, unless stated otherwise. Would you say that is accurate?
  17. I always assumed that after completing was meant for timing and as long as you were able to declare a trigger it satisfies the requirement for the extra attack action. Complete doesn't necessarily mean successful. So you declare Our Power Grows, but if nothing died you did not meet the "After killing target..." requirement and it fails to do anything. Then the trigger is complete. That said I'm not 100% sure that is correct, and even if it is legal it seems cheesy to me and I would not do it.
  18. I always wondered if Combo is subject to "once per turn" restrictions on the target action. For example if you successfully use a (0) action attack and complete a trigger can you use Combo to take that attack again? Would you say Combo is more specific so it over rides the once per activation restriction on a 0 action? I could see this going either way, so I've been playing it that I cannot use it on a 0 action, but I am in no way sure about that. Same question for actions that say "This action may only be taken once per turn/activation."
  19. If a rule says I CAN do (A and B ) then in my mind it is satisfied if I do (A and B ) OR (B and A ). In both cases I did what is said I CAN do (A and B ) without doing anything a rule said I cannot (such as determine the order). If a rule says do (A and then B ) then I must do (A and then B ). Since there is an actual restriction to be obeyed in this case.
  20. We're going around in circles at this point. We agree you can do what a rule allows you to do as long as you don't do anything the rules restrict you from doing. You say since there is no explicit rule stating the order effects within an action are resolved you must resolve in the order listed. There are no rules stating you can choose the order, so you cannot. Even though this does not break any stated restrictions. I say since there is no explicit rule stating the order effects within an action are resolved you can choose the order. I would do what the action said to do without breaking any restrictions.
  21. Explain why you are adding a restriction that is not stated anywhere in the rules. By removing the condition then healing I am doing what the rule explicitly told me to do and I am not doing anything any rule explicitly said I could not. Which is exactly the logic applied to dropping a scheme marker. As for Wong, that seems pretty thin. It does resolve the action in the order listed on the card, but the question has nothing to do with resolution order. I only asks if the damage is combined or taken discretely. There may have been absolutely no thought given to the order when writing the answer. I agree that we should apply the FAQ to similar situations, but in my mind since the two questions are completely different it make the connection very week. If you are going to look to the FAQ then it makes more sense to apply entries that have to do with resolution order. From the big rule book: Neither of these give strong support to being able to choose A then B, or B then A, but Wong doesn't give strong support to a restricted order.
  22. That is my point. If the rules do not restrict you from doing so, so you can. The same logic should be applied to all rules equally, and not be arbitrarily applied to some and not to others. Stones on the River does not say it can be used on Tuesdays any more than it says the effects must be performed in the order they are listed. There is also no rule saying that you are NOT allowed to choose freely in which order you want to resolve the effect of an action. I would also like it explicitly stated if you can choose the order or not, but currently it is not. Just as it is not explicitly stated whether it can or cannot be used on Tuesdays. Since it is not the assumption is you can use it on Tuesdays, so why is the assumption different for resolving the order of effects? This may change everything for me. This is the first I've heard and any rule that backs up why there should be an implied restriction on the order the effects are resolved in. Can you tell me which FAQ entry it is? I have not been able to find it.
  23. "The majority of them tell you what you can do, not what you can't do." I don't think I explained my line of thinking very well on that point. When a rule tells you what you can do I assume there are no restrictions than are stated. Stones on the River says you can do X and Y. There are no other restrictions listed. - My stand is if you are not restricted from doing something then it is legal to do so. Stones on the River does not say I can not change the order so I can. - Your stance is, it does not say you can change the order so you cannot. I picked random rule (dropping a scheme marker) and applied both our assumptions to it to see how they would affect that rule. I read the rules for Placing Scheme Markers (p 39) and Markers (49) in the big rule book. To paraphrase when you take an interact action you drop a scheme marker in base with yourself and not within 4" of another scheme marker. No where did it say the marker can be placed in base contact with another model or that it can be placed in terrain. - My stand is since the rules does not prohibit you from dropping a scheme marker in base contact with another model, or from dropping a marker in terrain, so you can do so. - If we apply the restrictions to dropping scheme markers that you have applied to Stones on the River then you cannot drop scheme a scheme marker if it would be in base contact with another model, and you cannot drop it in terrain of any type. The rules do not say you can, so you cannot.
