  1. Mercury is almost done; just a few touch-ups left. I didn't try to put eyes in, just dark shadows. May change my mind about this. Mouse was the half-done model that I finished up outside of the challenge. In taking a better photo to show Mouse, I lost the floor detail, which took much longer than the mini. Will try for a better compromise photo when I post the completed minis in the June thread. @kingmighty: nice work on the burned bricks! @Franchute: nice work on the weathered wood! That reddish-brown really works.
  2. That greenhouse looks great. Did it come with the planting benches or did you add them?
  3. That looks great, Nymie! Nice job picking out all the details. I really liked the headless dude peering over the wall as well. (Don't reply yet---keep painting!)
  4. I have been guilty of posting some terrible photographs of miniatures and related hobby stuff. I have a very cheap camera, a Kodak M1033, which does at least have a macro setting. As I have been posting photographs of WsIP and finished models, I decided to try making a light box to take better photographs. Today was the first step, using lighting that I already had on hand, and shining this through the translucent sides of a one gallon milk container that had the top and side handle cut off. I used my primed Mercury model as a test case, and already the quality of the image was better than without the box. I am therefore going to keep working on improving this set-up. The microscope was not adding anything except support, the left and right lights were the only ones used other than ambient room light. If you have any suggestions on how to improve this while staying with the cheap DIY mode, let me know and I will try to implement them. I think my next steps will be: 1) cutting out the sides into rectancular panels and reattching them together into a slightly larger, deeper, and more accessible shape. Will likely rout channels out of square stock plastic rod for the corners. 2) leave a slot in the back upper wall to allow some fabric for a background to be draped across the back. 3) maybe look at different light sources, like some small LEDs attached around the exterior.
  5. I am reposting my April model finished now, as I was away from the computer for a week and posted in the April discussion before leaving. Here is that same terrible photo of the copyphee duet. It is 14 SS. I have decided to stay in nightmare Mr. Cooper crew, and so will be working on Mercury this month. And hopefully finishing up Mouse as well, as he was my tag-along extra model last month but I didn't touch him. May is going to be much better hobby month any recent ones! Cheers all.

My May pledge for the painters challenge.
  7. Here is my April pledge for the painting challenge. The nightmare Coryphee Duet at 14 SS. This ended up being a real rush job---April has not been kind. But, I should have time in May to present something a bit more, ..., presentable. Cheers all!

My April 2016 challenge pledge. A real rush job.
  9. This could be a really interesting entry. I love the aRamos model, so I'm admittedly biased.
  10. @Viruk The cobbles in that base look great! The rest does as well, but really like those.
  11. I finally got my corephee duet assembled and based. The bases will be rough wood planking. The models are magnetized so that I can transfer them from single mode into the duet. I got the idea of cementing them to part of the base and magnetizing this from a recent post I saw on the forums, so once again, thanks for the idea, someone. I found that if you buy a pack of assorted plasticards, the thickest sheet matches the thickness of some small rare earth magnets, maybe 1/16? A 3 mm drill also makes a hole in the card perfect for gluing in these magnets. The same cement I am using on the models also works on plasticard, so this all came together rather well. Six days to paint!

My April 2016 entry, finally assembled. Magnetized to work separately or as a duet.
  13. I didn't expect that style. ... (wait for it) ...
  14. Ooooooo ... I quite like this idea! You could set it up so that the source of the data was a table with a row for each model, with their name. Should be every bit as motivating as the sweet sweet feeling of striking an item off a to do list. Hm, I think I will use this idea as the basis for a little R script. Malifaux and coding---life gets no better. Thanks for the idea, GOTH!
  15. Thanks, Viruk! I got one of the flying monkey -- corephee pairs assembled last night. That in itself was adventure with lots of pieces to line up just right. It went together pretty well, though. Hopefully will get it ready for painting this week. I am hoping to magnetize so that they can start separate and come together into the duet---four models on one base, including the monkeys.
  16. Hello fellow challenge painters! Here is my April task---the corephee duet nightmare edition. This one looks like a fun challenge. Mouse is my "not part of the challenge but the paint is out so go ahead and finish it already," model. Only had the base and his boots done for about 1/2 year now.
  17. All good points, BBVD. The light case is much larger than it needs to be. Maybe will try again once I am caught up with painting...
  18. Hi Aeglos, How about something like this? I use it for flame walls with my Kaeris crew. I started with Wyrd's orange transparent 50 mm bases, and cut out the center of them. I did this very carefully and slowly on a drill press, becasue the plastic is brittle. I then used epoxy to attach to these some tea lights with flickering LEDs. These were Hallowe'en lights, and so had an orange color to match the bases. I ripped off a small dome cover over the LEDs because it looked at me funny (and because it was too large). I bought some Reaper Bones orange flames, and drilled a hole in the bottom of the flame, just large enough to accept the LED. I glued these to the top of the light, over the LED. When I want to use them, I can access the power switch (and the battery case) from underneath---why I cut the base centers out. The sit on the table flickering away, distracting and intimidating my opponent while Kaeris leaps with glee behind the flames. At least, that's the way it plays out in my mind. Cheers.
  19. From the album: prof_bycid's materials randomizer experiment, entry #42

Orange transparent bases from Wyrd, center cut out + orange Hallowe'en tea lights with flickering LEDs + Reaper flames with hole drilled in bottom to accept LED.
