  1. Welcome to the fourms and the wonderful world of Malifaux. I wish you the best of luck bringing Malifaux back to your area. Love your avatar by the way.
  2. As a Resurrectionist player, I can tell you we have no anti-anything. The one faction that we do better against (only because they drop the most corpse counters and and are subject to terror) is the guild and the guild are pretty anti-resurrectionist. I think guild is about the only faction that gets a master to verse every faction and every other faction got what they need to verse Resurrectionist.
  3. It gives you a different master to play. Some have a pretty limited number of models they can take, but they are something different that the normal master. Also put a little more challenge to the game.
  4. All the tables looked great! You guys did a real proper job! Someone started a thread stated the tables had too much terrian, but I think on some, they had too little. Everything looked great. GW terrain is so much more useful with Malifaux that Fantasy battles. The terrain is wasted on Fantasy battles. Great job guys!
  5. Welcome to the forums and the world of Malifaux.
  6. If you check the rulebook, there is terrain traits. That is the real key to the terrain. A forest will block LOS for a ranged model but it will also block LOS for a melee model as it can't declare a charge. You can also have swamps that are severe that will not block LOS of ranged models but will half the charge/walk range of melee models. So a mix of different types of terrain with different traits is the real key. As Q'iq'el pointed out, you know what table you are playing on so unless you only have one crew, you only have yourself to blame if you hinder your own guys. I also agree completely with nerdelemental, that small terrian is very much need also. You just have to make sure it is being used in the encounter. When setting up terrain for my group, I always set up the big pieces first then fill in the gaps with smaller pieces. Terrain can really be used against either types of crews and the set is what really makes Malifuax fun.
  7. So my gaming group played all the Adepticon encounters on the 21st and I figured I would post up a small report on how it went. There were a total of 8 players, which was really good for a store that just starting selling Malifaux 5 months ago. The group included 2 Guild, 2 Neverborn, 3 Arcanist, and 1 Resurrectionist. The encounters were quite fun and everyone seemed to be having a good time. Some of the Arcanist felt the encounter were set up against them, but I think it was just the match ups. Over all, it was a success and the group seems to want to do more events, so be looking for them in the future in the event sub fourms. Thanks go out to players, which most have an forum account, so I can name them off and maybe even get some battle reports out of them. So thanks to Explorator, Ellraiser, Ironskullbo, EnternalVoid, and VonClausewitz. ---------- Post added at 12:58 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:08 AM ---------- One thing I hate for my players to have to put up with is the odd number of players and having to take a bye. So when this does happen, I will jump in the event also, just to keep the event even. When I do, I rarely play to my fullest abilities, no one wants to be wiped out by the EO in an event so I go with pretty fluffly list. Since there was an odd number I jumped in to even things out. I figured I would post up a battle report of my games and maybe get some of the other to do the same. So here we go! I ran the same list for the whole event, that way I was not picking on anyone one player (though I should have changed my list for VonClausewitz, more on that later). For the event I had finished painting up the Redchapel gang so I ran that. Seamus, Madame Sybelle, 3 Rotten belles (know as Cassie, Olivia, and Fiona) and the Copycat killer (known during the event as Wee baby Seamus by everyone). In the first round, I played one of our newest players using her Rasputina box set. My objectives were a claim jump, breakthrough, and eye for an eye. Things did not good for either of us as we flipped stampede for the event which happened twice and caught all the models in both our crews. In the end I won, as she was not able to get to her objectives in time. In the second round, I played the veteran in the group, VonClauswitz. As I am the most experienced members in our group (I was one of the two people that got everyone else into Malifaux) he did not pull any punches and even though I could have changed my list to help with the encounters I kept it as is and made due with what I had. My objectives were reconnoiter, hold out, and framed Madame Sybelle for murder. This was fun and tough game. I had little chance of pulling off reconnoiter with my crew, but I hoped to pull off the other two. Some high lights included Madame Sybelle lureing Lady Justice to finish her off, only to have Lucuis walk over and do the job. The two belles did their best to try and hold off Lady Justice, only to be cut down by her reposte and cb 11. At the end, I had nothing left and did not deal a single point of damage. Lucuis even walked over to my deployment to make sure I score no VP at all. Even for the fact I was totally wiped out, it was still a super fun game. Next time VonClauswitz gets the real deal! -laughs- In the last round, I played another one of the newer players, Ironskullbo and his Marcus crew. He was running Marcus, 3 silurids, and 3 molemen. The objectives were a shared claim jump (which moved around for the first 4 rounds), bodygaurd, and placing a grudge on one of the silurids (which is known in our group as Jazz hands). I know this guy well and always enjoy gaming with him so this was also a very fun game. Some highlights of the game include having the main objective stomp across my whole crew and part of his dealing 2 wounds to everyone. Madame Sybelle flurried twice in the encounter to wipe out the molemen, only to have them die on the first attack. Marcus took a flintlock shoot to the face with a red joker (which I then flipped weak damge after it) which he then realised he could pass off onto a moleman to save Marcus. At the end, I lost by 2 points. At the end of it all, it was so much fun. Malifaux is one of the only games I have ever played that even when I get floored, I still have fun with the game. I placed 5th in the event, but then again, I was not trying to get much higher. I am hoping some of the others will see this and post up their reports.
  8. I have to back up many of the ideas here also. I only play Resurrectionists and I love them. I don't even play the master that got me into Resurectionist, and I still love them. The real point is to play with what you like and don't let the fourms tell you what to play. If that was even true, no one would be playing Resurrectionists and the Wyrd warehouse would be full of Molly box sets in over stock (which I play as a master many times). Yeah, you might not win every game or walk away from an encounter without losing a single model, but when you do pull off that win, it is all the sweeter. So come to the forums for questions, ideas on models, or even find some new tricks others are using, but don't let the forums decide what you play.
  9. I personally like the idea of 18-24 pieces of terrain on the table, and not half of that barrels and a rock off to one side of the table. Big or small, the more terrain the better. As long as it is set up nice and with a theme, I am down with it. To me terrain hinders both melee and shooting.
  10. As a current Hordes player, I can tell you they are two very different games. The model count is much lower, even if you just ran all beast/jacks, you will still be using less models. Hordes always felt to me like a game based on 3d6 stat with 2d6 rules, in other words, not all that balanced. Units didn't seem to do much to the beast and the caster kill rule is one of the biggest rule that really kills the game for me. On the other hand, Malifaux is much smaller, very cheap to get into, all the models have some use against other models or the objectives. It is also very character driven, you have models that have proper names but are not over powered. Using cards and a control hand really makes it feel like you are in control of the game, not just putting all you got into a model and hopeing for the best. In my area, Malifaux was a no show also until Dec of last year. One of guys at the shop I host games got some Malifaux, one player got into it, I tried it and now, the whole gaming group plays it. This is including the guys who said they would never play or didn't like the rules. With it's cheap start up, characterful models, and card driven mechanics you really can't go too wrong. Plus, if you really wanted to (and don't tell anyone) you could easily proxy models and try it out, war machine using the same base sizes. That is all I got.
  11. Another thing to rememeber is the fact you are gaining fast, it is just being cancelled out. If you didn't gain fast, you never cancelled slow, so you had to at some point in the timing gained fast. Just because the ability is getting cancelled does not mean it didn't happen. It would be neat if it worked that way, but I don't think so. It is nice to have an ability to cancel slow.
  12. Guess it really depends on your play style. I normally go with schemes that match my strategy or my opponents. For example, if I flip Reconnoiter then I take stake a claim. If I flip plant evidence, I take breakthrough. If my opponent flips claim jump, I will take hold the line. I play with what is already there. There are also some schemes I would not take based on my play style also, even if it goes will with strategy. I wouldn't take assassinate, eye for an eye, or steal relic as I would never pull those off. Go with what you know.
  13. I agree on the fast to cancel slow, but I do not think the second part works. If that were the case, you could use all the body parts you had to keep gaining fast. I believe since it is an action, you can only do it once.
  14. That would be handy, but in what rulebook does it say "eye for an eye" is 3 points?
  15. I have always played it as being counters also, not zones. Of coarse, I am the only one in my group that uses crooligans. I don't think it matters too much anyways. On a standard 3' X 3' table and useing standard deployment, there is no way you could pull that off unless your opponent lets you. He starts 6" from the edge and put his models just spaced enough that you can't be closer than 12" and now you are starting 18" from his table edge which is your table half anyways. This also includes the fact that you take so many crooligans that you out number your opponent otherwise they can't claim the table quarter. It could be worded better, but there is not a lot you could do with it and crooligans anyways.
  16. Welcome to Malifaux and the forums. I am not a Murcus player so I can't help you out much, but I can give you one piece of advice I give all new players. Malifaux is a game of objectives. Always keep this in mind when you are playing. It might seem like fun to crush your opponent, but if that is not your objective, you will lose. I have been in games where I lost all but one model and pulled a draw. I guess I can also back up the claims on night terrors, I use them and they are great for grabbing objectives, just know when to launch the attack.
  17. You are a smart one. If only more people would quit playing theory games and play real ones, it would make soooo many game systems much more enjoyable.
  18. I normally run punk zombies with McMourning. Make a good combat mob. I hear Belles are great too, but I have no idea as to what you would use them for. Other than that, you got a pretty good start.
  19. Don't forget con day at the lair is this Saturday! Let's also wish the best of luck to all the Malifauxians heading to the real Adepticon! Good luck guys/gals and have fun!
  20. I mentioned Molly as she is the Resurrectionist's henchwoman and no matter how bad some thinks she is, she should still be included. Even if it is to just metion she has no real synergy, it would something to mention. If the guide is a beginners look into McMourning then it will help out and point out if she should be taken or not. For that matter, you could also include a small part about Von Schill. Taking a henchmen is just as much an option as taking totem or mercs.
  21. They are also good at blocking the path for a charge and as noted before, good for placing around an objective. No one is going to just walk over one, but you can at least try and force them over the counter.
  22. Looks pretty good. Got most everything covered. Are you going to add in a part about using McMourning and Molly?
  23. That makes a really nice "Welcome to Malifaux" for you. Hope you enjoy the game and welcome to the forums.
  24. I am by no means a master of Malifaux, but one piece of advice I can give to new players is to remember this: Malifaux is a game of objectives. You only get points for the strategies and schemes. As fun as it seems to run in your combat guys and tear up your opponent, if he is sticking to his objectives, you will lose. It took me a few games to get into that mind set, but now that I am thinking objectives first, I don't lose as much. Not saying I win every game, but I can at least pull a draw with the best of them.
  25. Guess that is true, if they are shooty or have a strategy that includes a moving objective. My gaming group is just really different because the Malifaux we play, my Resurrectionist are no where near as bad as the forums make them look.
