  1. Both of Ozz's suggestions are good for a demo crew as not only are they good models but they both teach important aspects of the game (totems and objective grabbing).
  2. Either way, the specific rule about abilities trumps that. They are always active unless they specifically state otherwise.
  3. The spell is "Reinforcements." He does not target with the spell, it is simply "place a friendly model in its controller's deployment zone within 4"' with a Rg of 18.
  4. Johan is generally considered slightly sub-par while Convict Gunslinger is a top notch 5-stone minion.
  5. This is inaccurate. Per RM32 "All action and spell effects which do not indicate a duration" end during the resolve effects step. The rider's purposes are abilities and thus are, per RM12 "Always active unless otherwise indicated." In this case the "unless otherwise indicated" would refer to the specific rules for gaining the new purpose. The old purpose, therefore, only ends if the ability indicates that it ends, which it does (when it gains a new purpose because the rider can only be affected by one purpose at a time.
  6. I should be able to make it. I'll talk to my regular gaming group and see if they are interested as well.
  7. To clarify my statement that desperate mercs are not an auto-include, I don't consider any models to be auto-includes with the three book one Guild masters. I think you pigeon-hole yourself by allotting points to a specific model rather than building your list for the strategy, faction and terrain you are dealing with. The reason I play Guild (aside from the awesome fluff) is that I believe the faction rewards intelligent list-building more than any of the other factions, hence my reluctance to label models as "auto-includes." That being said, i think desperate mercs with aSonnia are about as close to auto-includes as any model gets.
  8. I prefer two, but I am a proponent of max SS cache with Sonnia, especially with a henchman. That game was very terrain heavy so I wanted two austringers and a drill sgt so I only had enough stones for one.
  9. For me they are not an auto include but they are very high up on my list of minions to include. I end up taking at least one in nearly every aSonnia game. So far they have always been more than worth the two stone investment, especially from an activation perspective, which Guild generally suffers at. As an example of their awsomeness, last game I payed with her I brought lucius and a single desperate merc. I was able to out activate my opponent, who was playing Leveticus, and turn two I reinforced a pumped up desperate merc into a position where he got four shots off on my opponent's Dead Rider, killing it single handedly.
  10. As have I. I find that the Handler/Stalker list works much better with Lady J than with Sonnia even though Sonnia is able to generate more stalkers. Bringing a governor's proxy allow's you to make a couple stalkers melee experts every turn which, in combination with increased wk/cg and a 4" push from the handler makes them 4 stone nuclear warheads.
  11. It isn't actually an ongoing effect, it is an ability, which is always active, but is only applied when called for in the rules. In this case that is when a model is killed, but because it is applied simultaneously with the summoning effects of blessings/violation, the active player's effect would be applied first and the stalker/SPA would be summoned.
  12. I like the sculpt a lot but i don't think it really fits into Malifaux thematically. I think it is a little too fantasy and not enough victoriansteamgothicwest.
  13. Go to Mako's painting thread, he has an amazing tutorial on doing monochrome painting. ---------- Post added at 10:54 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:53 AM ---------- Btw, great job on the crew Jewomie.
  14. I really lean toward Blessings/Violation summoning a model based purely on the fact that they resolve before voracious rats so the "no other model may be summoned" clause has not been put into effect at the time the SPA/Stalker is summoned.
  15. They are effects and you can remove them with Dispel Magic.
  16. In my opinion Krylon Indoor/Outdoor primer is superior in literally every way to Citadel primer and it is only like $4 a can at your local hardware store. Recently I have been using a Krylon grey primer and while i like the quality of the paint i think I will be switching back to black. Black is really nice if you are layering/glazing because you get a defined dark line while only marginally losing the vibrancy of a white basecoat (due to the sheer number of layers of paint).
  17. I was wondering when you were going to chime in, seeing as how you are probably the most vocal proponent of the SoC/Lucius slingshot on the forums. *wink*
  18. Because student must use an (all) action to grant (+1) fast he is typically left in the dust by the rest of your crew, so he usually only gets one to two turns of actual use. With Lucius you can either leave models in your DZ to get fast from the SoC then reinforce them into position, or you can reinforce the student into a central position where he can grant fast to nearby models.
  19. Only in specific situations or in combination with particular models. I personally would not take Student in a guild crew unless it also had Lucius.
  20. If your friend is going to be using the Justice sling-shot on a regular basis it would be wise for her to invest in a Student of Conflict. Putting Justice in a vanguard position by herself is extremely dangerous unless she can be 100% sure of killing the biggest threat. SoC is the best way to do this. SoC can also make the other Guild heavy hitters like Executioner and Judge into absolute monsters. Sending in a 'roided out 7-stone model with Lucius carries much less risk than sending in Justice but can be just as rewarding. Doing this also leaves Justice in your DZ as a threat or in a flanking position to eliminate your opponent's objective runners. Paradoxically, Justice being one of the most straight forward masters in the game means she is one of the more complicated to use effectively. A lack of tricks, escapes, or movement shenanigans means that a slightly misplaced or ill-timed attack with Justice can be disastrous. The key thing to remember about Justice is that because she can kill basically any other model at will you do not need to rush her into combat. The patience to hold her back or move her into a strategic position rather than run headlong into your opponent is paramount for success with Justice. In a game I played recently I kept Justice in my DZ the entire game except for turn 4 when i reinforced her into a position to kill my opponent's last Silurid to complete my Exterminate scheme, after which i promptly moved her back into my DZ (I won the game 6-0). The threat of Justice nearly anywhere on the board will drastically alter your opponent's own attempts at board control.
  21. Unless dead rider was already set to his 3rd purpose when lady justice activated he should not have had hard to kill. The purpose is not automatically changed when he loses wounds, it is only at the beginning of hours activation or if he casts adjust purpose.
  22. Based on how rapid fire randomisation works I also believe it would be option 2.
  23. Desolation engine cannot be summoned due to his Desolate rule.
  24. Scurry has it right. One Special forces group is not an ability.
