  1. Thanks DarcXON. Those are the kind of tips I'm looking for. Now all I have to do is learn how to put them into practice... My main concern with bring Von Shill to the table is his cost. If I bring him, then I'm almost forced to leave Taelor behind. But from what I'm hearing Von Shill is the better choice in most situations.
  2. Ah. I stand corrected. Then let me amend my last post by saying 'virtually the same cost' I played two games recently. Lost both. Big time. The first was against Seamus. I managed to kill his flesh construct and get my sword Vic in past his hookers. But I took a pounding. He just healed up all the damage I did to him. It was horrible. My plan from the start was to get in and hit his Master hard. What if I changed my tactics and tried taking out his zombie girls first? That seems counter intuitive for me, but I'm always open to new ideas... The second game was against Perdita. The game was close... until we got near the end. Then Nino killed the two guys I had in base contact with the objective. I'm not sure what I could have done differently that game. He killed one Vic, then got the red joker on his damage flip against the ronin next to her. It was just bad luck I think.
  3. I agree with the first couple of posters. Go with Seamus or Rasputina. They have what your looking for without having to expand into a new faction. I've played against Seamus, and I've seen Rasputina played. Both are very effective on the table with some great options, but are somewhat straightforward. At least compared to some.
  4. Ahhh... Very true. I just reread the rules on special forces. That begs the question, how does Von Shill compare to Taelor? Both cost the same, so subbing him in place of her lets me take more Freikorp. Is it worth it? In a large scrap it might be worth it because I can take advantage of having more Freikorp. But in a smaller game I may not want more than 2. In a brawl (of any size) I assume it would be a great idea.
  5. If that's true, then definitely a rider with a bow (or gun, as this is the world of Malifaux!) Although a rider carrying scales reminds me of Lady Justice. I can see a guild rider having scales.
  6. Hey! That's exactly what I take. We play at the 30ss pretty regularly so I've run the list above with Misaki more times than any other list. From those games I can say one thing for certain. Misaki dies really quick. Even with her extended range she takes a beating and almost always drops first. When I finally get my Von Shill crew painted I'll try the list with the Librarian. From everyone I've talked to that's the way to go. Lists I want to try out sometime are: Victoria 1 Victoria 2 Librarian Specialist Trapper Freikorpsman Freikorpsman 4ss Victoria 1 Victoria 2 Taelor Librarian Trapper Convict Gunslinger 3ss
  7. I think this is very true. In fact, it is SO true that people seem to be overcompensating by NOT voting for Hamelin! I don't think he's that bad! As of the writing of this post, he only has 1 vote, the Victorias have 9, and Leveticus 10. Only 1 vote out of something like 25! However, after saying that, I voted Victorias. : I think they are less straight forward and more tactical than most people give them credit for. They've got mobility and they pack a punch.
  8. Interesting. I had assumed when reading the rule book that the action would go off as he was taking the damage. What I mean is, if I had one wound left and you do 3 damage to me. Then lets say I healed 2, I would take 1 and still die. I would need to heal all 3 in order to take no damage and stay alive. However, I read the slow to die entry in the rules manual and you are correct! That's a nice tidbit to know.
  9. I suggest Colette. As already mentioned they both have great movement potential. But Colette is light on the pocket book! I'm in the middle of painting a Kirai crew and it's adding up fast. The fig count is more than I expected when I first started painting the Kirai box. Now... when I finally get them all done and start playing I might be singing a different tune! So take what I say with a grain of salt!
  10. Has anyone tried running Hamelin under the Victoria's? (And by Hamelin, I mean the non-master from book 1.) Obviously it could work, but my question is, how well? He's pricey, so in a smaller game I'd have to fill up on Ronin and a Gunslinger so I'm not overwhelmed by numbers. I love taking Taelor, but would it really be possible to fit them both in a 30ss list? I guess if I tried, it would look something like this: Victoria 1 Victoria 2 Taelor Hamelin Convict Gunslinger Ronin That only leaves me with 3ss.
  11. A lot of people are mentioning Lady J. I admit she would make a great heroin. But if your going to go with her, you gotta get Christina Hendricks to play her! There's just no other choice! Oh... and someone mentioned Penelope Cruz as Perdita. That's awesome! Now I can't decide between wanting Selma Hayek or Penelope Cruz to play her!
  12. I'm with you on the Victoria's. They are surprisingly flexible and tactical. They are not as one dimensional as you might first think. I've really enjoyed playing them. However, my vote was for Lady Justice. She strikes me as the polar opposite from the master you've been playing. Game play will be totally different. And I for one love variety. And yes. Another reason is that the miniatures look amazing!
  13. I read that and had no idea what you were talking about... then it hit me. You're asking about my spell aren't you?! A bunch of my friends play 40k (I still do too, I guess.) so I wanted to make a joke at their expense.
  14. Rathnard, you make a good case. I really like your thinking! I bet Jackie Earle Haley would play a good Seamus. But I'm at a loss on a Victoria. But that's not the best Malifaux movie there is. The best would have to be... Perdita vs. Lilith. I think that would be truly classic. Western gunslingers vs. monsters. That sums up Malifaux quit nicely. I'd want Selma Hayek as Perdita and Carrie Ann Moss as Lilith.
  15. No. No. No! Don't use this model for Perdita. This is your opportunity to let your creativity shine. I'm already thinking of home brew rules to fit this girl! When I get a few ideas I like I'll post 'em up here.
  16. Thanks guys. This is just the kind of advice I was looking for. I had believed that teams were the way to go. Free for all games usually end up two separate one on one games then the winners have at it. Or two guys beat up on one before turning on each other. But the idea of using shared strategies that force people into the middle (or into enemy deployment zones) solves that problem. At least a little. I think that's what I'll recommend.
  17. The group of guys I play games with has been getting into Malifaux one by one. So far I've been teaching people to how to play and the games have been one on one, or two guys playing one crew. They just split the guys up between themselves and as a team decide what they are going to do. As they start buying pieces and all of us meet up to play each week I am concerned how to arrange the games. Should we just play one on one games and have two or three games going, or should we try having teams? I'm not sure how I would organize a larger game with everyone playing their own crew. Does anyone have experience playing multiplayer games and if so, how do you do it?
  18. I'm a big fan of the Victoria's. Other than some demo games I've played, they are the only crew I've used. I think the guys you've picked are pretty solid. So far, I have not tried teaming the girls up with Von Shill and the Friekorp, so I can't speak on that point except to say I believe it's a great idea. The librarian's healing alone will make it worthwhile. I have used the rest of the guys you've mentioned so I can talk about them. Convict Gunslinger and the Ronin are great for their points. I've been using them more and more. Don't expect to get back another Vic by sacrificing a Ronin. That is nearly impossible to get off (I've never succeeded at it). But as far as combat goes they are well worth it. Don't over look the Ronin's Harmless. When I started paying attention to that it helped me out. Johan I love. Solid with decent damage. Misaki is a hard hitter... sometimes. She's fairly tricky to use right, and far more fragile than I would like. If your opponent knows to target her early, your out a big hitter and there's nothing you can do about it. By my calculations (double check, I don't have the cards in front of me) you can drop Misaki and get Taelor. She an absolute beast! I rarely leave home with out her... now that I think about it, I NEVER leave home with out her! Great damage, great reach. She can take a pounding and still see another turn. In any given game you can use her or Johan to supply the muscle and take a few hits.
  19. I have to say, I don't think any of the factions I identify with. At least not as a faction. I find the individual masters much more interesting. Right now I play the Victoria's. The next crew I've been painting is Kirai. After that who knows... maybe Lady J, maybe Collette. I seem to be all over the place as far as the factions go! However, I ended up voting Outcast, because that's my first (and so far only) crew.
  20. Sweet! thanks for the help guys. i've taken some pictures of my figs. expect to see some posted up here in the next few days. as for the friekorp, i've heard people like using the librarian with the victoria's, but what about the rest of the von shill crew? do they all work well under the girls?
  21. i've been playing malifaux for a few months now and so far all i've got painted is the victoria crew and a few extra guys. not much really, but i've started thinking about what new guys i can get to build up my options. so naturally i turned here to get some opinions from you guys! expect me to drop by the outcast board and ask a few questions from time to time. one quick question: i've seen people with little pics of their masters at the bottoms of their posts. where is everyone getting these images from? i'd love to put the twin girls at the bottom of my posts!
