  1. Need to ditch a card from your hand to power an ability? Don't necessarily ditch the 1 or 2 from your hand. Any card you discard will be shuffled back into your deck for the next turn. Maybe think about discarding the 6, 7 or 8 to power your ability (assuming you don't think you'll need them this turn). Then the 1 and the 2 can be dropped at the end of the turn and they're out of the cycle for a longer period.
  2. The problem we have Ratty is that your definition of "elevation difference" isn't specified in the rules. Nowhere does it say to involve a model's Ht.... If I'm stood on something Ht1 (independent of any other models), surely my "elevation" is 1". Another model may have an elevation of 3" because they're standing on something taller. You're telling us that the difference in the two models' elevations *isn't* 2". But I don't think you're using anything from the rulebook to justify that
  3. Attacking downwards is exactly the same I think. If the lower models Ht exceeds the elevation difference, only use the horizontal measurement. Otherwise the higher model has to spend some melee range "reaching" down. It's very abstract I grant you!
  4. PS. Wyrd have explained that the wording of abilities hasn't been 100% optimised, so we're directed to *not* assign any particular significance to words being used on one card but different words used on another. A plain English reading is recommended at a times.
  5. Applying reasoning like that just gets silly though. If I make a Walk Action and then (1)AP strike you, is the damage "due to" the walk action because I couldn't have damaged you without Walking first? The poison condition does damage at the end of the turn. That damage is damage due to the poison condition. The damage resulting from A sip of wine is due to A sip of wine. The only thing Poison contributes is to tell you what number to apply.
  6. Worth pointing out that the majority of this thread is from 2013 and relates to M1E, so a lot of the tactics mentioned are no longer in the rules.
  7. Nah, it's a pretty generic "starting" fluff book. There's a few chapters of "this is the world of Malifaux and this is its history" Every model gets a few paragraphs telling you who they are and why they do ehat they do. And there is a short story for each faction that advances the story a tiny bit, but is more intended to introduce some of the major players in the faction. Previous knowledge of past fiction isn't that essential. Previous books (storm of shadows excepted) have had one big story running through the book, but not so in the M2E main rulebook.
  8. Yea, don't get a pack of only Rotten Belles, or only Punk Zombies - buy the Seamus and Nicodem boxes (probably in that order) so you get the extra masters and Henchmen too! Much better value.
  9. Some models with Counterspell abilities can remove suits from Ca actions. I can't remember if it's the case for DMs, but if the crow is needed in the target number(?), and it gets removed by one of these abilities, the action is less likely to succeed.
  10. I agree. Although I doubt that Austringers will be released only in a campaign pack like the Transmortis Students were. Maybe he's an Austringer affiliated named Henchman or Enforcer...?
  11. The flesh construct isn't taller than the pillar, so he can't bypass the height difference. If he was ht1, ht2, ht3 or ht4 the result would still be the same: He measures 1" horizontal, and adds 4" vertical = 5" distance. His melee attack is out of range. If the flesh construct was ht5, he would be taller than the terrain, and therefore ignore the vertical component, ie. He would be 1" away. Wong's Ht2 doesn't come into it.
  12. Those are 1st edition rules only. They do have a lot of background fluff and stories though. Essential reading to get up to speed on the Malifaux characters and world. It's speculated there might be an upcoming fluff compendium that collects this stuff together, but it's not fully confirmed what form that will take. If you see the books for really cheap it's worth picking them up, otherwise it might be best to wait and see what materialises.
  13. Since models come packaged with their stat cards, you don't need arsenal decks. The main purpose of arsenal decks was for the M2E transition, to get cards in the hands of players who already had the models. Wyrd have told us that they sell the cards at essentially break even prices for this purpose - they're not a money grab. If you buy the main rulebook (and subsequent supplement books) you have all the model stats and rules that can guide future purchases. I would always recommend getting the big book. It has all the fluff in it for one thing. It's essential reading for that purpose. The mini rulebook isn't intended as a replacement, it's more of a "don't want to carry a big book around with you? Get this too!" Once you have the book, and you get the stat cards in the box with the minis, there's no issue surely? No need to pay any extras unless you really want to.
  14. Would you expect the Wave 2 book to have cover art featuring two of the unreleased Wave *1* models (Austringer and, [speculated] Waldgeist)? Wouldn't it typically have cover art depicting something new? Something from, you know, the inside of the book? Sounds odd to me. I'm thinking it could be something linked to the imminent (next few months, anyway) release of those two models. Maybe a mini campaign pack of some description... Crossroads is also a crap name for Book 2. I hope it's not called Crossroads.
  15. If I'm understanding what you're saying here, I think you might be misunderstanding what the mechanic represents. It isn't Levi in a dress and a wig, disguised as a Hollow Waif. Leveticus' powers extend to resurrecting himself, as long as he has Shackled his soul to a victim. When Levi dies, he does actually die, but because he left a part of his soul in the Hollow Waif, he comes back from the afterlife. I'm not sure how that is meant to manifest in real terms, and where his new body actually comes from, but presumably the Waif collapses in an empty heap as Levi re-materialises and extracts the soul fragment from her.
  16. Seems like you have the core of a strong Misaki crew there. Don't forget if Misaki is being played as Ten Thunders you also have access to stuff from Mei Feng's crew. Rail Workers and especially Kang (if you're playing against non-Living enemies) can be nice additions for her. Recalled Training is an awesome upgrade. I rarely play Misaki without it. From there it depends on your playstyle and what the scheme pool is. Stalking Bisento is nice for the free attack, but does make it possible for your opponent to direct where she moves to and catch her in an ambush. My most recent couple of blog posts cover my first forays into playing Misaki if you're interested. I really should get another update posted...
  17. A tip on interpreting the FAQ: The FAQ answer is only there to clarify the "from this Crew's deck" part of the ability wording. The fact that it doesn't mention "friendly model's activation" in the FAQ doesn't subtract the fact that this wording is in the text of the ability itself, so unless the FAQ specifically said otherwise, it still stands.
  18. Wyrd's stance on it recently changed. Nathan posted recently that a fluff compendium is in the pipeline.
  19. A duel can count as different stats for the defender and the attacker, depending on which stat they each use. When Pandora casts, for example, Self Harm, she is making a Ca duel and the defender is making a Wp duel.
  20. Jfivat has some good tips there. Generally you'll want to stick to that advice to start out, but I'd add the following. 1) When you apply a dark version of the colour I'd probably stay away from mixing in black to it. - it can tend to take away the vibrancy of your colour. For example red + black can be very very dark, but red + dark brown might be a more natural tone. You can experiment with this to get the tone you prefer. 2) My own method involves painting one area at a time rather than doing all the dark tones at ones, then all the mid-tones etc.. So I would do all the skin first (dark tone, mid tone, then highlight), and then move onto the shirt (dark, mid, highlight), then the trousers, then the weapon, or whatever. I find this keeps me focused on one colour rather than always having multiple colours on the go at once. 3) Some areas of the model you might want to treat differently. Metal armour and weapons usually works best over black, and then you could use either a drybrush method (look that one up), or you could paint the metal colour over black and then use a wash (basically an ink with lots of pigment) as the final coat. Human skin tone is another one that some people prefer to handle with a wash - usually dark brown over a base skin tone.
  21. I agree. I also think that this reasoning is inconsistent with a belief that "damage suffered" = "the number of Wds you subtract from the target after mitigation is applied"
  22. I'm looking at this tentatively... Is anyone staying over in a hotel on Saturday night that might appreciate a contribution to the expense (in exhange for a surface to sleep on, of course)? It'd mean a 5am start for me on Saturday morning, but if I can wangle somewhere to stay, I might be able to make it down...
  23. That purely depends on what "suffers damage" means. I take it to be the inverse of "dealt damage". If I deal you a mighty blow to the head, you just suffered a mighty blow to the head. The fact that you're wearing a helmet doesn't negate the fact that you still suffered the blow. In that context, regardless of what happens to the victim (mitigation or no mitigation), the shooter's damage is the same.
  24. I'd expect Leveticus to be one of the first Wave 2 masters to come out (probably shortly after GenCon). He was pushed back from Wave 1 into Wave 2, so he will have been further along in the development queue than some of the other Wave 2 masters that wouldn't have been prioritised. We've already seen his full crew art, for example.
  25. I'll bring a decent selection, probably including Flashpoint, Takenoko, Braggart, Survive, etc etc
