Chev Chelios
Is there a hand out for the 2nd edition rules that could be given out to prospective players? Also is the QR sheet that is in downloads up to date?
0 Adran
I don't think there are quick learn rules anywhere. Whilst the Quick Reference in the Downloads section is probably for V1, Oathus has made a quick reference sheet. I will find the thread and link it here http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?47090-M2E-Cheat-Sheets

Also is the QR sheet that is in downloads up to date? Could you give us an example of quick learn rules? just trying to figure out if it is something a fan could do, or if it is something we would need Wyrd's permission for. Otherwise, there are some quite good resources to use for in game that might help. Oathius cheat sheets(referenced by Adran) and smoothWD40's stuff here :http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?45384-Couple-of-downloads are both good resources. ---------- Post added at 06:58 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:55 AM ---------- I could see making something like: AP are {definition} Every master starts with 3AP, every other model starts with 2, unless they have abilities that increase AP. Page:XX in the Rulebook. AP may be used to:{list of General actions}, or to use abilities and attacks with (number) in the stat line. Pg: XX Basically, a short 3-10 page document that provides references and general rules to make learning the game easier.
0 Chev Chelios
Something that someone could read instead of trying to look through a rule book.
0 Gyouza
I believe he is looking for something like what some RPG's and other tabletop games offer(though far less commonly) I know Shadowrun, Heavy Gear and Battletech have such rulebooks. They are generally some what dumbed down get playing style books. Removing more complicated aspects and intended for more simplistic characters/units(or crews in this case) Enough to have an idea how to play and even possibly proxy a game. This would probably be something that at the minimum requires Wyrd's permission to create but for reference I believe he means things like this: Battletech(note this one also includes paper units to try with): http://d15yciz5bluc83.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/BattleTechQuick-Start-Rules.pdf Shadowrun: http://cdn.shadowruntabletop.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/E-CAT27QSR_SR5-Quick-Start-Rules.pdf Heavy Gear: http://dp9.com.s3.amazonaws.com/downloads/HeavyGearArenaQuickStart.pdf
0 Dracomax
Yeah, I wouldn't expect anything like that from Wyrd. Not saying they wouldn't ever do it, but it seems unlikely, given their stance on Pdf, the rules themselves, and such. the closest I saw in M1E was the small rulebook, which was still a complete rulebook, just smaller and updated. 0 Mister Shine
I'd say the closest was the rules pdf they released? http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?20564-Malifaux-Rules-Manual-PDF-%28Update%29 Probably taken down because it's 1.5, but it wouldnt surprise me if they released another for 2.

It was literally just a pdf of the small rules manual.
0 Chev Chelios
Privateerpress made a handout that had the basic rules in it that could be used for demos. I have some acquaintances that might be interested and was looking for something like this as a way for someone unfamiliar with Malifaux to get an understanding of it. 0 Dracomax
Wyrd will do what Wyrd feels comfortable with, regardless of what Privateer press or any other company do or have done in the past. They have proved willing to do so in the past, and the same people who were in charge then are in charge now. That being said, If you have a reasonable grasp on the Rules, We could make a quick list with short descriptions and page numbers to reference. Then, run a henchman led 15-20 SS game. They run quick, can show off most of the rules, and generally only have 2-4 models to worry about. Honestly, I might make something like that, pregenerate a scheme pool, and put it up on the forums at some point myself, if for no other reason than to help me with demos. 0 Cats Laughing
Privateerpress made a handout that had the basic rules in it that could be used for demos. I have some acquaintances that might be interested and was looking for something like this as a way for someone unfamiliar with Malifaux to get an understanding of it. They pack these quickstart rules in the starter battleboxes, which I think is a really good way to get players into the game and started playing. Hell Dorado does the same. I can't speak for other games. That said, the rules for those two games are fairly simple and fit onto a few sheets of paper. it might be possible to do the same for Malifaux. For those wanting to do a homebrew Quickfaux handout, the WarmaHordes & Hell Dorado quick start rules are available online here: (not direct links to the pdfs) http://privateerpress.com/warmachine/the-game http://privateerpress.com/hordes/the-game http://cipher-studios.com/downloads/
0 Spifferson
I think that in essence the malufaux rules are fairly well laid out and "user friendly". It is the introduction of the complex models that makes 'quick start' rules a difficult proposition.
