Gujozec
Izamu. Now I have finished all Yan Lo stuff available so far. I have pretty much nothing to work on until Toshiro and Yin come out. I still need to get the bits for the Samurai Punk Zombie conversions... So this month I'll be doing some work on my Freikorps crew. That's them: They need rebasing and some freshening up of their paintjobs. And a Strongarm suit. Thulis
Fantastic Yan Lo crew. Did you use some pre-existing resin bases or were they completely custom? I really like your "rugged landscape" feel to the bases. Edit* Also what bits do you mean to convert the samurai punk zombies with? ttsgosadow
Looking really good! The weathering goes very nice with the models. Also thanks for the tutorial!
underdog6750
I think this is the nicest izamu i have seen. I love how you have achieved the feel of him being a real suit of armour. Really amazing work on the crew as a whole. Loving the freikorps too
Gujozec
Thanks everyone! Fantastic Yan Lo crew. Did you use some pre-existing resin bases or were they completely custom? I really like your "rugged landscape" feel to the bases. Edit* Also what bits do you mean to convert the samurai punk zombies with? The bases are custom made. Sand, plaster, grass tufts and moss. For the punk zombies I was thinking undead samurai. They start off as Ashigaru (I already bought another Yan Lo box), whose heads are replaced by samurai helmets with masks (I love the look of those). They lose their yaris and get katanas instead. Some extra armour would be nice as well. I think some of these will do for the heads: Now I still need to find proper plastic hands holding katanas. Linus Mcmold
Are you going to graft any flesh on their bones? Or just give them different paintjobs as very skinny zombies...
Gujozec
I'm not sure yet. But I think they'll just be skeletons. Their paintjob (their banners will be blue and their clothes red; the ashigaru have the reverse), their weapons and the not so small amount of extra armour will be more than enough to distinguish between them and the ashigaru. Viruk
They work great put together as a crew, I really like the coherent look you achieved.
Gujozec
Finished my Convict Gunslinger: And I added a bit more colour to the Suit, on his shoulder pads. He fits better with the rest of the crew now. Samurai Zombies are next on the list. And I hope Wyrd online store gets the May releases soon, I need Yin and Toshiro ASAP. Viruk
Another great piece from you, the mask adds a lot of character to this model (not my favorite in Malifaux range truth be told). You painting style and the conversions you add make me think of a movie called "Worst Case Scenario". Well, it's never been released actually but the trailers are still there, thought you might find them interesting:
Gujozec
Thanks Viruk and Demonn! Awesome trailers, real shame the movie was never made. While waiting for Yin and Toshiro, I've started to convert my samurai zombies out of Ashigaru. Damn fiddly bits... First I tried to rearrange their arms to hold katanas I would make out of plasticard. That resulted in much breakage and frustration, so in the end I resorted to using Empire State Troop arms. I used Oyumaru to make copies of armour plates, which I then attached to the zombie's arms. This is the first one finished: The other two will probably have samurai helmets. I must have them all ready and painted up for Agram Arena Summer in July. Edited June 7, 2013 by Gujozec
Argentbadger
That's a pretty cool idea to turn Ashigaru into Samurai. The GW arms work much better than I would have expected. Does this mean that you've ended up with duplicates of Yan Lo, Chiaki and the Soul Porter? What plans do you have for them?
Gujozec
Indeed. The duplicate Yan and Chiaki will probably be painted up as the spirit versions of them, as they can both become spirits during the game. I have yet no plans for the Soul Porter. Here is the first Samurai Zombie painted, minus the base and the back banner:
