gamesmistress
Hi all, now i have finished whipping and beating ghostwalker until he bled...(well painted my crew for me hehe). I thought i would show pics of my current favourite crew in this great game. Many thanks to Mark aka ghostwalker Red Chapel Gang Seamus Copycat Killer Madam Sybelle Trio of Belles
Ravager
They look good, but did you dip them? They're all shiny.
ghostwalker
They look good, but did you dip them? They're all shiny. Thanks, but no not dipped, thats the result of GW's Purity seal. Think i may need to get some matt varnish from somewhere and give them a blast. Main thing is they are protected from chipping for now! DireTrollJake
I always hit my models with Krylon UV protective gloss coat and then Matte varnish. No chips and no shine after the Matte.
Malcontent
The shine works with Madame Sybelle – cool pvc look – but omg her rear is scary lol!
AvatarForm
I almost asked if he painted with oils or enamels due to the shine. very nice.
CrimsonWraith
The dull coat will take the shine off. Using the gloss coat give a better protection, but can hamper the look of the model. Dull coat after will bring back to matte, while not affect the glosses protection. But, beyond the shine, they look fantastic! Kudos to Ghostwalker! Drake
Yeah they look good mate. nice tabletop standard, very effective. Once Matted they will look great. Now just to get a hold of your camera so I can get some pics up here too, much better pics than I can take!! lol
LonelyPath
Great paint jobs all round, I like them a lot, but I think I would make my Rotten Belles a little paler. I would also (like others on here) hit them with some anti-shine to dull them down a little bit.
ghostwalker
The dull coat is in hand...well in process of trying to find a decent one from a UK retailer. With the rotten belles i went for a more 'recent dead' rather than manky old woman look loL (Sybelle has anough of that for 10 crews!) Hayleyish
I use Testors Dullcote on my models, I get it from Firestorm Games. Love the colours on Seamus, and a great job all round :-)
tattyted
Are you sure that is purity seal? I use it regularly and it is a satin/matte finish not a gloss. I have never had models sprayed with purity come up as shiny as that.
ghostwalker
Yeah its definately Purity seal. Pics were taken in natural daylight which may have added a touch to the shine but even indoors they shine. Not what i was hoping for. Now im torn between testors dull coat or army painter matt varnish. Have heard good things about both.
tattyted
Definitely looks (and sounds) much more like 'ardcoat! :dontknow:
ghostwalker
Yeah definately purity seal. Will post a picture of the can when my camera charges again.
Leggo
This might help you GW http://www.maelstromgames.co.uk/index.php?act=pro&pre=tst_hob_mod_spr_101_000 Free shipping over £10 so if your just after one can that might cause an issue. However be of note that the cans themselves are quite small, compared for instance, to Purity Seal. It's like picking up one of the small mixer cans of Coca-cola, after your used to drinking out of a 2l bottle.
ghostwalker
Thanks leggo, i didnt realise maelstrom did it as im a regular there. Nevermind i have ordered 2 cans of testors dull coat from Antenociti's Workshop. So hopefully in a few days i will be able to post some less shiny pics. LonelyPath
Ah, I can understand the healthier look to the Belles now, thanks for explaining your reasons I've had a fair bit of success with the Army Painter matt spray in taking off any shine on models, but others I know have had bad experiences with the stuff. I'm seeking a different product myself after I finish the last of my army painter sprays.
ghostwalker
After some liberal use of Testors Dull Coat (i love the stuff), may i re-present gamesmistress's Red Chapel Crew....without the pvc look.
Leggo
Thats really done the trick, and they do photo much much better. It's amazing how much effect, one single product can have on you work, until you see it first hand.
gamesmistress
That is very true Leggo and in person it is just as noticable. So i am very happy with the crew and gratefull to ghostwalker for painting them up for me. Now i just need to get the brush confidence to try something myself.
