Jonas Albrecht
By game, I mean a single encounter. What's the largest number of players you've had in a single game? What Strategies were most accommodating to games with 3+ players? We're you playing teams, or free-for-all? Could the game accommodate as many as 8 players in a single encounter? Rathnard
The largest I've been in would be 4-player games. In such games you tend to run the risk of the players pairing off and it just becoming two 1v1 games on the same board. Making sure that everyone's playing a strategy that requires them to converge into the centre helps alieviate this though. So the best strategy I know of would have to be a shared claim jump. In theory I think an 8-player game would work, but it'd take a while and you will definitely get crews pairing off against each other and ignoring the objective, especially if they realise that they won't be able to compete. Uncle
Could the game accommodate as many as 8 players in a single encounter? The Little Wars guys just held an 8-player "team" big battle. 25 SS each. I like the guys and enjoyed the game, but big battles like that really don't do it for me. The more players at a table, the longer the wait between "active" parts of the game, which means that you can be sitting there fore quite some time waiting for something to happen. Like I said, I enjoyed the game, but I'd much prefer 2-3 player games, maybe 4 at most.
WEiRD sKeTCH
4 Players. Shared Destroy the Evidence. Colette vs. Kirai vs. Seamus vs. Lilith. Holy smokes!
karn987
6 Player team battle for shared Treasure Hunt. Leveticus + Ramos + Seamus Vs Colette + Nico + Sonnia Lots of things died and came back =D I think in the end, a spider barely managed to run off with the chest under covering fire from Levy and Seamus. Jonas Albrecht
Well, its sounds like four and six player games work. Cool beans. The reason I ask is because I want to try and do an event style Encounter. I call it The Battle for Downtown. It may or may not involve the Governor General himself. Ratty
Played 2 v 2 and 4 free for all over a treasure in the center. with 4 player you get the usual king maker situation though.
Jonas Albrecht
With teams, have you been keeping things limited to factions, or are you going with whatever you want?
Ratty
We had McMourning & Kirai vs Marcus and Viktoria as that made the most sense out of the pairings but if we hadn't had that split we would have played with whatever we had. karn987
I think it's fine to mix factions on the same team. Just watch for abusive combos because there are some big ones out there. Also I take it your doing a custom strategy? If not, careful on some of the strategies and schemes, they sorta explode when done with 2+ players. Ratty
Treasure hunt works well. I think Wagons could be fun. I think you would have to be careful but your having to make up the rules as you go. including things like initiative order.. for the 2 v 2. we all drew cards and then the highest card went first, then the highest card of the opposition, then the 1st players partner then the the last person. So you didn't get 2 activations from one side in a row in a turn. For the 4 way we drew for initiative and then went clockwise from the the highest draw. Jonas Albrecht
I think yes, a custom strategy might be necessary for free-for-alls, unless I want to keep doing Treasure Hunt. The trick is preventing the kingmaking and dogpiling that can happen. A think a larger board might be an answer, or one that has levels, and a lot of obstacles. jmp_mydog
We've played 6 player free-for-alls several times and have noticed that you'll quickly burn through your hand and deck. 4 player games seem to suffer from the same problem but still work well. The biggest issue as with any game "built" for two players that can be played multiplayer is the increase in the time it takes to play. deadboy
Free for all is rough. I've done a lot of 4 player multiplayer games and they TEND to wind up devolving in to 2 players gang up on 1 guy while the 4th hangs back and tries quietly to accomplish his objective. No matter how you slice it Dopplegangers are great in multiplayer games.
