Hawkoon
Last day of may todayđ So many colourful minis we have so far. @Moinetbeard really takes the prize for vibrant coloured gremlins that's really striking. @MestreGuilderius has some convincing coloured OSLđ @TimH's Hinamatsu also bolsters a really colourful kimono, freehand patterns and all! While still colourful, @Diddick's robot got some serious weathering going. Love itâ¤ď¸ @Gheist also got quite the vibrant repeating turquoise theme for his Oni. I particularly like the magic effect on Asami. Good work everyone. Me? I'll be posting up some images of my own very very soonđ 2

Hawkoon
As promised, here are my models for this month. Moinetbeard
One last model, squeaked in at the end of the month. Wanted to try out a base design for my next crew so this was a test model. relatively simple but I like how maxine came out. This was also my first foray into using oils for my malifaux minis and was really pleased how it turned out! I started with acrylics, then did a layer of oils and then went back to acrylics for a few details at the end, which I think worked particularly well. I'm particularly pleased with the face on this one. Â Ps I almost forgot I whizzed through Beau and some piglets for a tournament a couple of weeks ago- proper speed painting I'm afraid, but may go back to them at some point. That brings my total for this month to 101SS painted!

What with needing solvents for thinning and cleaning. As a painting medium I think it looks ace, but how do you handle workspace, cleaning, thinning and fumes?

So I have a fair bit of experience of using oils as I did a fine art degree many many years ago. đ the process for mini painting is obviously very different though.  With regards to my workspace, I don't have a dedicated area for painting in my house. When I paint I get a big box with all my stuff in out, assemble what I need onto a lap tray and normally sit in front of the TV when I paint. I can't do this with oils, as the risk of spilling something nasty is too great. But i have managed to condense my workspace down quite a bit. I have a different set of brushes which I will use just for oils as well as a metal pallet. The thing I found was that when not doing a wash I didn't need to thin the paints at all. So no big bucket of thinner needed, I literally had about a thimble-full of thinner in a small shallow dish for just cleaning my brush. I used low odor artist thinner and you can barely smell it at all. You also only need the tiniest amout of paint- like literally a single dot, applied to the area that you want it in, before using a clean brush to gently spread it out smoothly. Because of this there is almost no cleaning of brushes involved, just a quick dip in the thinner and wipe on a towel followed by brush soap at the end. Despite many people saying it's not necessary I would advise using a layer of matt varnish between layers of oils and acrylics or vice-versa just to ensure no unexpected reactions. @Virukis the man to speak to about oils though- I absolutely love his painting and he really manages to get the most out of the medium, retaining the character and vibrancy of oils without the dullness they can be associated with when overworked. From watching his videos he uses a wash technique that I haven't tried yet- that will be on the cards next. I haven't painted with them in about 10 years but this is definitely reminding me why I loved using them when I was studying painting! 2

MestreGuilderius
So, I suppose we have to wait until votes are closed to reveal what mini is to be added when submitted for HM contest ?

Yeah... It's supposed to be anonymous, but looking at the gallery, I'm not sure everyone actually got that part... (Think it's quite clear who's the painter in atleast 4 of the entries). I personally don't think it's a very big deal, but you should probably wait until voting is closed before posting here.
MestreGuilderius
So, for the last submission of the month, I'm entering my HoodedRider who got wrecked in May contest xD Still very happy with out it turned out, considering I almost never do metallics as I hate this xD First attempt at TMM, took me way more time than it should have and I did with what I had in storage in terms of paints^^ Thanks for the people who posted comments on it, I'm always here for advices
Brad Maynes
Now that voting is closed, here's the conclusion of my May commitment: It didn't do great, but it was a good exercise for me to spend that much time on a single model.

Your color sense on the OSL was really on point, and your brush control is great. If you work a bit on highlight placement, your stuff is really going to be incredible!

Can't hurt if you're only going to throw it away anyway, and sometimes it will reconstitute. Thanks for the tip. Now to look into gloss medium and what else it is used for.
