Mr Oogie Boogie
im currently using army painter and the vallejo but i fidn they make things a bit shiny for some reason
Rubyhathunger
Maybe it's a bit unpopular, but I use Citadel colors only. I like that they are a bit thicker and more covering. Even the famous Contrast Paints work very well with Malifaux miniatures because of the many details they have.
Butch
I usally recommend Vallejo Model Color. These are great for beginners and advanced Painters. I use Scale Color, but I find them a bit tricky. I learnt to love them but I don't recommend them for unexperianced painters. If you don' like the shine but you're happy with the colors use AK Interactive or MIG matte varnish. Works well wurh brush or airbrush and you don't have to buy new colors (Scale Colors are very matte...) 1
captaingrizz
do yall seal your minis?
Mossmanxx
Really starting to stick with vellejo but pro acryl through an airbrush is amazing. Scale 75 is nice but as a brush licker it's terrible

DavesMiniMenagerie
I use a Winsor and Newton matt varnish which I airbrush on, it brings down the shine quite a bit and should protect the paint job. ( I use Army Painter and Citadel paints at the moment)

If it's a game model (and not just a display piece) I think you're better to protect your mini. I'm using W&N matt as well (but in rattle can). If I wan a different finish I often airbrush AK interactive / Vallejo matt/satin... If you just want to kill the shine, you can also airbrush a thin coat of matt medium.
Nudelpullover
I think you can make a case for almost all of the brands. It depends on what you want. Value wise i would mostly stay away from citadel and look toward Vallejo or almost all other manufacturers. I mostly use Vallejo, with a little bit of Scale 75 and Citadel mixed in. But my favourites by far are Kimera Kolors, with the caveat that you have to mix all your tones yourself. Other then that, they are the best in value and quality IMO. 1
Nudelpullover
Concerning the "shininess": I cant speak for Army Painter, but i usually dont have problems with my Vallejo colors. But not diluting enough could also be the reason.
SEV
Kimera colors are awesome! I used a lot of ink and oil paint, so I often feel the need to bring everything on the same level, hence the coat of matt medium/matt varnish... Inks, especially if you are airbrush glazing are a great tool.
DavesMiniMenagerie
Also to do with shine, my washes were really really shiny until I realised it was because they weren't mixed up properly. Once I really shook them (used a vortex mixer) they were back to normal
