Madaxeman.com - Mei Feng vs McCabe

In the 2nd ever Malifaux report on my site, Evil Steampunk-magic-using Marxist Drug-runner Mei Feng takes on a man on a horse and his big fat Edward Scissorhands best friend in a strangely inappropriate urban cowboy landscape as two newbie players struggle again to get to grips with what the hell they are up to ..

There is kung-fu, there are dogs and eagles, there is a Sikh with a machine gun and there is a lawyer (sending guns and money..?). Who knows what it all means - but as long as everything gets set on fire, and there is a post-battle analysis that is built on the basic principles of scientific socialism and underground insurrectionists drug running and crime in an all-round way which upholds the lofty ideal of communism and its ultimate values and goals in the face of undue provocation from the forces of reactionary Guild censorship and oppression, what's not to like?

Terrific report.  I really like the style of writing, and the witty captions are highly entertaining.  One thing I did want to point out was about the Badge of Speed (McCabe's upgrade).  It has different effects depending on where it is.  On McCabe, he gets the Black Flash spell, which can give Reactivate to a Minion (i.e. not an Executioner); effectively trading one of his AP for two of theirs.  On anyone else, it gives them Nimble.

I hope you'll keep sharing these.

They were getting reactivate and nimble for one of two possible reasons.

1. I was cheating.

2. I am as incompetent at this game as you are and I missed the 'only a minion bit'.

Was probably to busy trying to figure out how to build a milk bar for my droogs. This news is a real shame, as Edward and Snodgrass were both really very funny reactivating. Now they will be demoted to medium arsed funny. On the plus side for you I also managed to miss a reasonably funny 0 action on the lawyer - wont tell you what it is as I wouldn't want to spoil the surprise.

I suppose it is good that we are finding these mistakes out now rather than in the company of some semi competent gentlemen in the competition in Bristol. But by then we should have 4 games under our belt and be ready to kick arse (our own....)

OK, reading it, we may have gotten it slightly wrong. It looks like the upgrade works like this:

1. McCabe spends 1AP on Badge of Speed / Black Flash, to give a Minion (not an Enforcer or Henchman) "reactivate"

2. McCabe does the "give an upgrade away" thing to give Badge of Speed to a non-master (as in anyone!), which could in theory be the reactivate minion

3. The non-master who now has the Badge of Speed gains Nimble for as long as they have the upgrade.

Mr Axeman

That was exactly what happened, so we (I) did it right apart from the 'only a minion' thing, which admittedly is a rather big thing. Think that they got reactive every turn was in your head. Mind you I think I gave it to the lawyer 2 turns in a row so he dud reactivated for two turns. McCabe has a thing that lets him take back any upgrades he has handed out at the begging of his activation. So for the second turn, he took the badge back, cast reactive again and then passed the badge back to the lawyer again. This is perfectly legal (I believe, although I am half expecting someone to tell me something I missed), apart from the minion thing of course.
