  1. Hello everybody ! It's the end of the Year! We made it!

Important Announcement: As my Chefsupermainhost is leaving the scene, i also decided it's time to scram. No seriously i got other fish to fry and i rather participate for the next year than host. So you all have a month to step up and take over the challenge, it's doable and most of the Work has been done by @Shock & Awe anyway ;) so i am looking forward to nearly everyone volunteering.

I'll be cleaning house and tallying Soulsstone counts and so on, i thought about doing a Montage of this years works but i dunno if i have the time right now. Also getting a badge for completing would be nice, but these seem to be reserved for official business.

Anyhow, i expect you all will try to do your best to squeeze in some paintjobs next to the Madness that's december.

As for Masterclass: Do you manage to get gifts for your hobby from other people? How do you do it? indulge my curiosity :D

As for Pledge, I Pledge ZIPP and Crew and whatever i get done over the Holidays. Have good one everybody!

This Black Friday I am hoping to get Alt Barbaros as I don't like the original mini. I ha the old version and run it with Titania in M2E but sold it at some point, seeing no play. Now with the new keyword I think I may need it again. As for the practical side, we generally make a larger order within our meta and share the shipping / vat etc. costs among bigger group.

My November has been pretty busy so far and looks like I may stop here for now as I have some non-Malifaux stuff waiting too. 66 soulstones isn't bad anyway I reckon ;)

How did you do Mc Cabes Shirt?

  3. Yep GJ @Shock & Awe,

so i will join you saying it was a pleasure, it is always really great to see all the pictures of everyone and be part of the process organizing this.

I would like to pass on the torch as well because i am swamped in hobby related work. If nobody steps up i will emergency do this until somebody does step up or i just decide that i do not. If we do it with two people i would continue being host as well.

have a great November I need to get some Minis in for next tournament

@Hawkoon – I love the splotches on Serena, and best of luck in the competition!

@LinenMusician – the glass on the telescope and binoculars are frickin’ sweet!

@TimH – I second what Viruk said, the range of colors is really nice

@feagaur – sometimes those dynamic poses are hard to work with, but I think it came out nicely

@Gheist – I love the coat. If I can add in a tiny piece of personal feeling – the picture is a bit too dark. You’re a great painter and it’s a shame to miss out on the details.

@Kogan Style – SO many vibrant colors, and SO much dynamic work. Well done, all stellar pieces

@Caedrus – I love the unified feel of your models, and that blue is really beautiful.

@Strangely Brown – Quantity definitely didn’t hurt your quality. I particularly love how the bases pull it all together.

@Viruk – Man, I really love how vibrant those colors are! It gives it all a really wicked 80’s neon / cyberpunk feel. Amazing work as always – we can all see why they showcase your work 😉

@Cats Laughing – I really like that pink color you picked to pull the squad together. Nice work.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

As for me, I finally got around to taking pictures of my models for the month.

The standard Killjoy and the Erymanthian Boar are ready to join up with the Fae. I've got Titania 2 and some proxy Waldgeists left, and the keyword will be done :)

Poor Killjoy's chain snapped while I was painting him, so sadly it got a bit lumpy... have to be more careful with these wonky thin bits.

Yeah, i have the optimizing photography Setup point on my to-do, but i hardly get anything done right now but tournament practice and minimal amount of painting.

I don't have a neutral background and the Black one i have looks too much like the cloth it is unless you really lower iso and shutter Time way down. I'll try but right now i am a bit afloat on the mass of stuff that needs taken care of.

Nice Killjoy :) always loved that model

Done at last, that’s all my Malifaux Pile of shame finished, and what a great model to end on! This was lovely to paint, though my iPad has washed out the colours and subtlety a bit as always .
I have a couple of keyword gaps I can add to continue the challenge this year, and my eye on a couple of new masters too…exciting times!

I am painting an entry for the Wyrd contest, and I assume I'm not the only one here. As the deadline is november 6'th, I won't be able to show off my work here for quite some time (but I will get it finished by the end of this month), so I hope that a late reveal of this months quota will be accepted?

Yes, it's completely fine. It would be a bit dumb if you couldn't invest time to paint something to a high standard and partake in this challenge at the same time.

But we expect you to make us proud.

    So no pressure :D

  7. Hello Folks!

BIg sorry for the late post, but i am quite overworked and have run into too much no regarding my hobby lately so I slouched.

Anyhow: We are nearing the end of the year ! So it's the last ditch effort ;)

Regarding Masterclass: I want to now if there are any products like some specific glue or medium or varnish that has made your hobby-life easier since you discovered it, just post your favourite.

Dont forget to fill in the Forms guys, have an awesome Octobre!

This looks amazing! What brand of magenta are you using to paint? I am on my third brand now and they are horribly blotchy and gnarly, but (given it is a "fake" color) it's extremely hard to mix it out of others. :( I have tried Vallejo, Liquitex acrylics (still working the best, but huge pigment for minis) and Louvre acrylics (same issue as Liquitex and it worked even worse).

Pictured: my fight against the paint to achieve a bright magenta silky smoothness on a kunoichi.

try kimera coulours, i think it's perfect for that, just get a good clean white for mixing

Cool Bandersnatch! i used a similar cotton web technique on my nexus stuff and also used some glue strands to make it look a bit more webby - it's quite delicate, but in a decent case should be ok. I sprayed it the whole model with matt varnish after applying the glue to hold it together and give it a matt look. I used the UHU all purpose adhesive. large.20220707_163325.jpg.141bc26e50842fe2b978a4f94e39303b.jpg

thats so good. I wanted to do that on mine but i rejected it as too time intense (i am lazy that way)

  10. So regarding this month masterclass topic: What to do when you lack motivation to paint, although these are my personal thoughts ;)

Do low key work, like building or priming or do bases, so you have progress even if you don't paint stuff, sometimes it's nice to feel good about small achievements

Keep your paint stuff accessible, like on a fixed space and, if that doesn't work with your place of living, put it somewhere on a movable tray or else, so you have the least possible resistance to actually sit down and paint

I try to have several models available for painting, so i can maybe just switch if i don't fancy the one or the other at that moment

Realistic time estimates are also kinda great, if you have 90% of the weekend into looking after your kids or going out or working and your part time goal is painting 2 keywords until sunday, well duh. Try to make appointments with people to paint or failing that, with yourself. No excuse Situation: Just sit down with your stuff and start, i feel that after that stuff takes care of itself. 1 Hour is often great to get something done, maybe two. 10 hours per day is not realistic

Don't get stressed by instagram or stuff, those people often are professionals. Being a professional artist can be it's own hell, so i wouldn't envy them too much ;)

And i think most important: It's your hobby and your fun and your refuge. If you get too stressed by stuff (like handing in Photographs for the Monthly Painting Challenge),screw that and take a break, if you don't make it one year there is a next year and you will always be welcome back whatsoever. This might sound cheesy but if you turn your hobby into a chore, you can't expect to feel love towards it

So now i said that, i made an appointment with myself on saturday to finish two models for the Pledge :D luckily my unmotivated former self had them built and primed by his next day version.

Have a good one, i love the pictures here

I'm just taking the dive into EVS and I'm thinking Hidden Agenda seems interesting on Calypso.  Anyone tried this?  If you have it in the thick of things it's survivable enough that it should proc "Backup Plan" with some regularity.  Plus, with Dr Beebe inside, your opponent can't be sure if you're cheating a throw away but reconfigured low card/9 or a severe.  With Armour 2, maybe you don't care!

    Thoughts?

I think it's okay to do it, question is why not put it on your master if you are playing maxine2 instead of on calypso. Otherwise its fine you can put out 4 attacks to pressure cheating and reconfigure is indeed kind of nice to lead your opponent astray.

However, there is stuff running around that can blow up calypso in one go and your rebuild calypso doesnt get the upgrade, so i would in those cases refrain from putting more eggs into that basket

Nearly halfway through the month already, and I haven't painted anything since first half of last month. Seems a bit ironic considering this months topic... 🤣

I'll have to do something about this...

To get some motivation I'm going to ask YOU people what YOU would like to see me paint from the following options:

    1. Insidious madness
    2. Coppelius
    3. Bandersnatch
    4. Widow weaver
    5. Daydream
    6. Lord Chompy bits
    7. Insomniac
    8. Serena Bowman

    I Vote for 2 :D

Now that the winners for the painting contest are announced, I can share my entry.

It got me 1st place in the singles category ^^.   I'll share it here even though it was my July pledge

I'm honestly really proud of how this ended up looking (to the point that i even shown the pics to non-painter friends 😬 )

Was my first time trying the "luz de recorte" technique (no idea how it's called in english, cutting light??? ), but is this thin blue line on the shadow bit that helps framing the otherwise very dark mini, and the results are great, will most likely use it from now on on darker minis.

Haha i was thinking about entering with the same mini, i reserved for when i would have time to work on OSL.

Well it will keep, congrats on the awesome work :D
