  1. Good to know. Guess the Sexy-cutioner will have to keep being his proxy for the time being.
  2. Good advice. Though, speaking of new waves, am I correct in understanding that the Wave 4 Witchling Thrall still doesn't have a model out?
  3. I feel like I play the Frank style wrong because he ends up not getting into the fight from needing to be 2" from Sonnia. though I tried this once with a Sanctioned Spellcaster and let Frank shoot through them and it was cute for a minute. I always run effigies. Regardless of what faction I play. I bought all 7 of them because I loved the idea of them, and I never build a list without them.
  4. Absolutely. That's what I save my last 20-ish stones for. Depending on the scheme/strat I can add to it to round it out. Maybe Pathfinder/traps/austringer combo - or a couple hounds - or a Death Marshal those last bits shift from game to game, but I'm trying to build a base group I keep with her from game to game.
  5. I'm a relatively new player (about 6 months) and I've had a bit of trouble finding a good base crew for Sonnia. At current my base 30-ish with her is: Sonnia (Cherufe's Imprint / reincarnation and/or badge of office) Malifaux Child Brutal Emissary (Conflux of Inceneration) Witchling Handler Witchling Stalker Brutal Effigy I liked the idea of using a DM to box Sonnia and then shoot with the Emissary, so perhaps I could dump the handler, but I like being able to drag the stalker around. Is there a better base crew to run with her? I like building burning lists with her, though I know that isn't always the most efficient way to play her, but what lists do ya'll have that really shine with her?
  6. I've gotten quite a bit of use out of the model, but I'll admit that I spent ages getting his paint just right and I force him in due to my desire to make that time spent worth it. That said, the flanker comment is exactly what I do with him, but I only take him if either Leave Your Mark, or Covert Breakthrough are in the scheme pool - if they're both in there, he's one of my favourite choices. Walk 6, unimpeded, and able to walk twice and still drop a marker means he can run these schemes on his own. If you give him a hound or some other fast moving thing to tar pit for him, he can drop, walk, push, drop in one turn. Are there other things that can accomplish this for less? Yeah. But I like the idea of having on of the four horsemen of the apocalypse on my team. My main goal with him is to start him out a bit back and toward the middle of whatever the deployment zone is so that I can see which way the bulk of the other side is going to go, or where their flankers are off to (if they have any). Then I pick a flank and run him up the side. The Pale Rider's good at taking down most other flanker models, especially if you keep him out of range of serious damage until turn 3. He shoots well, does decent damage, and by the time you get to turn three, he's hard to shift and has a pretty much automatic scheme dropping mechanism that will allow you to walk twice and still drop, or shoot once, walk once, then drop - you get the idea. Before turn three, he can be a bit squishy. I had Misaki stalk him on turn one once with that damnable Sensei Yu shoving her around and she took the PR out turn one. For 12 stones, you are in a world of hurt if that happens. Long story short, he's a 12 point flanker/scheme runner that can defend himself well in late game. Unfortunately there are much cheeper options that will accomplish the same goals and provide you with more flexibility. To answer the initial question, I run Lady J, Sonnia, and Perdita, but I've only really used the PR with Lady J. She runs a threat bubble tactic for me that provides a buffer for the PR to get up the side (relatively) unharassed (to get over to it they have to move into the threat bubble, or within range of it if they want to shoot at him - it's usually not worth it and they tend to focus on the bubble versus that expensive horse on the far side of the board). I haven't run Sonnia in a bit, actually since I painted the death horsie, but I use the Malifaux child with her a lot and putting up double flame walls gives you a shield the horse can run behind as well. Again, there are better uses of the stones, but I've definitely gotten use out of him as a flanker/scheme runner that hits hard up the side of the board and can run schemes by himself late game.
  7. I'm curious if anyone out there might know what is up with the Nephilim 3 pack box. It's been 'temporarily out of stock' at all the sites I shop from, and it's been the same with the Wyrd Web Store as well. Did the flying beasties prove too good for plastic?
  8. I am looking for game stores that carry Malifaux products in Japan that anyone might know, or wargaming communities as well. I've been able to find some great paint and hobby shops, as model painting is a pretty big thing here, but outside of random 40K stuff I have not been able to find any Malifaux or board game related things in Japan. If anyone knows of any or has any information, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!
  9. Awesome! I'll keep an eye out for those potential opportunities and have some samples and ideas written up.
  10. I'm in Suita, near the Expo park.  Whereabouts in Kyoto are you?

  11. I'm curious how you go about fielding writer/editors for your storylines. I'd love to volunteer in supporting that somehow if I could. Not looking to get paid, just want to contribute to my newfound obsession. Sorry if this wasn't the place to post this
  12. I had a question about dealing with Nico, but found the other thread talking about it. Sorry to waste everyone's time! I'll search better next time before opening my mouth...
  13. I'm in the same boat. Living in Osaka means I may have to get super creative to get a hold of that Sybelle.... grrr. It's not even about strong arming here, LGSs don't exist. We have hobby shops, but all they carry are huge robots or scantly dressed anime girls (though they do have the citadel paints, oddly enough... otherwise I'd be screwed from both ends). Anyone want to trade a receipt for random souvenirs from Japan
  14. I'll qualify this by pointing out that I've only been playing since January, but I always run Lady J with Badge of Office and Last Stand. Those are her staple upgrades for me. But, again, newbie... so what do I know really? Thus, in my greenness, this would number 3
  15. Good morning,

sorry to drop in out of the blue, but I've been told you're one of (or perhaps the only) Henchmen in Japan and I need some help/advice.  I live in Osaka and I'm really hoping to find a way to get a hold of that alt Madame Sybelle... but that's going to require a LGS.... which I know of nothing in Japan that sells Malifaux.  Do you have any advice or ideas that could help with that?  Thanks for your time! PS-whereabouts in Japan do you host?

Just noticed my last reply was 'restored' and that you never saw it...oh well.

Anyways -- I've found out that you indeed need a receipt from a store that is a retailer for Malifaux.  No one here in Japan is that sort of store.

However -- there will be a chance to get this model later after the August Promotion.  You'll be able to use Guilders to get it.  Also, it may appear as item during the Black Friday Sale.

Yeah, I had a feeling this was the way it would turn.

I actually decided to focus on getting Miss Deed instead and dumped my purchase money into the Gen Con sale anyway, so it's not big deal.

I assume they will offer her up at some point in another sale (as you pointed out) and I'm not planning on getting Seamus until next year, so I can wait.

Thanks for the follow up though, and I'll have to see if there's a way to get the model store near me to order out for some of the Malifaux stuff in the future.  It sucks being locked out of all the LGS goodies!  It screws us out of free stuff....

      Nice!

My GenCon order got messed up a little -- so they're sending an extra Miss Deed with the replacement bitz.

The upgrades for the various Masters seem really cool and will certainly mix the game up.  I've got demos tomorrow and possibly more games after that.

  16. The 0 is going to be amazing, it's a slightly more expensive 'stalking bisento', but you don't need LOS to get it off (which, hello blind fighter). The hopping reposte shenanigans sounds interesting. Since it's 'place', you could name a model on the other side of a wall, place on the other side of it, smack the model, and hop right back. The possibilities sound like this will be the third default upgrade for LJ.
  17. Lady J was my first master, and she's still my favorite. My base 30 (well... 32) with her is: Lady J - Badge of Office & Last Stand Frank - Wade in & Hermanos Master Queeg - Promises DM Recruiter Brutal Effigy Then I usually add in all the pieces everyone has already suggested depending on the schemes & strategy; hounds (awesome for activation control and tar pitting), austringers, pathfinder, death marshals, or the lone marshal. I've actually run her a lot with the pale rider. It's an expensive model stone wise, but if you keep it alive until turn 3 it's really hard to shift and can serve as both a killing machine and a scheme runner at the same time. If you want to get the most out of the inspiring swordplay though, stalkers are great for that. It also depends on how aggressive you like to play.
  18. New to the game and have been obsessively buying models and now I have something new to digest! I just went to RPG and downloaded the whole library... so I've got some reading to do. I obviously have no idea what's happening in the fight with Lady J and Nico, but Lady J was my first purchase and Nico is the master the player in my metta used to smack me around with... so I REALLY hope she kills his a$$.
