1. Colour me interested. Probably travelling with the rest of the Scottish contingent.
2. Hence the reason I specifically stated the doorway in the building and you would have to be playing rules for locked doors which need AP to open. I think the thing that makes it 'nuts' is the confusion between everyday English meaning of the term within and the rules definition of 'within' easy to mix common sense with rules. Scenery can be blocking and dense or a combination of, these are LoS Terrain Traits stated on p40 (Little book). Impassible terrain prohibits entering and moving through it (Incorporeal allows models to work around this rule). As for being 'within' the terrain, that's why I've asked really. It's more about non-impassible terrain that can be moved into but models choose to stop touching OR are stopped once they are in base to base contact (e.g. a push).
3. That was my thought but the 'Within' text box actually only states this is when an 'Action' refers to within. Is it listed elsewhere within the rules? Yeah I was just trying to think of a situation where it might be relevant for impassible terrain pieces too as it's harder to argue being 'within' those. Raspys ability states touching I think but if you've opened the door (say prev turn) but not moved into the room are you 'within' the building?
4. When is a model considered within a piece of terrain? Specifically non-impassable terrain e.g. an area of wood. The rules I have found for this (there may be more I've missed ): The terrain section (p73 small rule book) states every piece of terrain has a base and (in the case of Lilith's Illusionary forest) Dense - "Models can see into this terrain, but not through it. Models outside the dense terrain may draw LoS to targets within the terrain. Models may ignore the dense train of terrain that the are within, when drawing LoS. Otherwise, the terrain is considered blocking." Lastly, and this is where the core of the question really lies, the 'Within' text box in the LoS section (p40 small rule book) states "When an Action states that an object must be within a distance, if any portion of that object's base is AT that distance or closer it is considered within the stated distance". The Question: The confusion is the use of the general language use of within and the specific M2E terminology of 'within', which is defined for Actions. So, I guess explicitly, my question is "Is the definition for 'Within' the same throughout the game as it is for Actions?" So, if a model is touching Lilith's Illusionary Forest is it 'within'? Can another model on the other side of the forest draw LoS to the model (say it had been pushed into/against the terrain by some ability ) and/or vice-versa for the models melee attack/engagement range. The Waldgeists' 'Tangling Roots' Attack action states "While this model's base is touching severe terrain, increase the range of this attack to {claw}4". Can a Waldgeist which is touching (i.e. base to base) Lilith's forest see and be seen by models the other side and so be engaged with and by the Waldgeists 4" melee? Aside: I suppose this may also have consequences for doorways and Rasputinas 'Freeze Over' ability. I'm not sure when exactly you might need to be touching a doorway without being in it, maybe if you were playing locked door rules...?
5. Email sent. Bit late to the party but hopefully I'll still be allowed back in
6. As today was your deadline for master entries (and I am looking to solidify weekend plans) do you know if you will be needing anyone on your reserve list Mr Brown?
7. Ok, I'm going to have faith and ask to be put on the reserve list please. Not backing out of it again even if it means travelling down from Scotland by train! Kicking myself I missed last year.
8. Can I get a reserve place please?
9. Yay, thank you Wyrd! The rules pdf is now available for download in the download section of the website. Here's the link for those not wanting to scroll up! http://wyrd-games.net/community/files/file/59-puppet-wars-unstitched-rules-and-pattern-book/
10. Is this going to be affected by the announced closure of RankingsHQ or is there another suitable product?
11. 4 events and max points at 32 players
12. Reading through this thread the situation got me thinking... As events get larger more rounds will be required to clearly and fairly differentiate players scores for 16+ player events. The major problem is, of course, the time required to play 4 or more rounds. Is it really unfeasible to run 4 round tournaments in 1 day? I for one would rather have an earlier start/finish later and do a full, 4 round day to have a clearer winner/points spread. As mentioned above count backs on TP and VP can often be brutal in bigger tourneys. The alternative, as I see it, which allows for some future proofing of events growing and requiring 2 days, is to have a split system. 1 day or 2 day categories and scaling based on the number of rounds AND players. For most cases at present will be a typical 1 day, 3 round tournament will have it's points capped by the number of players as suggested already throughout the thread i.e. 26/28/30. However (and this is the simplest system I can think of off the bat) is that if the tournament runs for 4 rounds (in 1 day) then there is a scale multiplier applied to all scores e.g. 1.2 times the relevant 3 round tourney score for that number of players. And an equivalent multiplier used for 2 day or higher round event. This allows for big events to run for one day with the 3 rounds (or eventually the required 2 days to separate player scores more fairly) while smaller events that can fit in an extra round (concentrating longer) aren't penalised. This accommodates more (smaller) events to be run keeping the choice for people to attend when fits in with outside life. To make this system work the max player numbers cap for full points would need to be quite high and discounting for number under max to be harsh or the extra round multiplier not very generous. As I said, this is me just thinking about this on the hoof so would need to sit down with some numbers to figure out where the 'fair' scale lies. I've not been involved in the twitter discussions so don't know if any of this has been said and dismissed but would be interested to know what others think. Is it too complicated? Would it be better left for another year (or two) down the line when it is actually required. Until then make the gradual increase that this current proposal is to the old system? IMO an increased scoring scale is obviously required, if not immediately then in the near future. I agree that this is often better done ahead of awkward scenarios arising rather than once someone has had a negative experience on the bad side of one. There are two questions in the poll: how many events and how may player for max points, I'm going for 4 events and proposing the above alternative if RankingHQ can accommodate (max numbers would then have to be calculated for optimums. As an aside, MTG events have base 2 numbers of rounds ( 8 players = 3 rounds, 16/4, 32/5 etc ) and points for match wins and event multipliers, big events are harder to do well in so have bigger multipliers. But the rounds are only typically 1 hour or so... Wow, that ended up longer than I expected, sorry
13. I was wondering if there was any movement on making the Unstitched Rules available for PDF download? (This is a plea to any Mods out there who may have the ear of Wyrd directly) I have the original Box game and at least 2 of each of the expansion boxes along with some of the ltd ed models (teddy etc) so I was really hoping to play with the new rules but having to keep referring to the website is a bit awkward. I would like to take this moment to say that love that it's now a Vassal module too. I was a huge fan of the 1st ed Malifaux Vassal module from the get go and am looking forward to using it for Puppet Wars now too.

Sorry for the delay, just sending payment now.
15. Interesting to see no-one has taken Lucas, Levi, Marcus, Seamus or Sonnia even once yet. What's more surprising is that Kidnap hasn't been used either. Maybe those Neverborn players aren't as filthy as everybody makes out *cough* Sabotage *cough*

Ok, I'm in. I'll probably be travelling down by train with Joe (Euclid) and staying in town with my brother so may be up for some apres tourney drinks too. Looking forward to a 4 round 25ss starter box tourney, not tried one of these yet.
17. Pop me on the waiting list too please!
18. +1 thanks to guildmonkee (and the rest of York Garrison Club) for a great event. I'll definitely be back. Great day, 3 good tactical games against 3 top opponents. It was good to meet some more people in the community and I look forward to seeing you all again at the next big shin-dig.
19. Yep, Misaki or the Dual Gremlin/Ten Thunder master (if they exist!) please.
20. Personal preference is for 4 rounds, my reasons: I'm travelling quite a way and more games = happier me. With this many people there could be multiple people on the same TPoints and VPdiff More games = more peopleI've never played I need a kick up the ass to play faster. ---------- Post added at 10:37 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:27 AM ---------- Just thought I'd throw out the idea to change it to 4 rounds at 30ss if that might make it easier for all?
21. Loving the Streets of Blood map I made one of my own. This map has had quite a few games on it and I think works quite well. Again any feedback would be appreciated. Town Mapv2.vsav.zip
22. I wasn't very impressed with the pre-provided Master of the Hill maps so have given designing a new one a go. Please give it a try. http://www.wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?37834-Map-vsav-Shares&p=541550#post541550
23. I didn't particularly think either of the MotH maps were in keeping with the setup guidelines and/or were very easy to use so I've had a go at making my own. Give it a try and please give some (constructive) feedback. Edit: Inserted the image and updated the map with height on the building on bottom left. New map zip file is 46.1 KB. MotH.vsav.zip MotH.vsav.zip
24. Payment sent. Thanks again Craig. Will you be at York on the 11th May?
25. Can't make it to Sheffield the following weekend so will probably be down for this, I'll ask at DWS if there's anyone else interested.
