  1. A long long time ago I bought EBO through Kickstarter. It came, but baby Saemus didn't have a head. Two nerdfighteria expanions also showed up, but not the other expansion. It has sat lonely in a box waiting for my kids to play it. I've been told to make a damaged good order, so I did. I'm feeling lonely being left in the dark here for over two months, I would think someone should have emailed me by now. My kids don't remember my sales pitch about EBO, and my wife knows I've been ripped off. What is the best way of getting in contact with Wyrd? Being polite is taking a really long time.
  2. If you can get your hands on a Metal Gamin they are amazing. Raspy gets engaged and you're toast. The Gamin can cast Small but Fierce which forces a single target (wp resist) to direct attacks only towards it. Oh and the attacks will receive a negative flip ! If the target has a WP greater then your cast, you can instead cast Hard Case. Whenever someone suffers damage you can inflict up to 2 of those wounds on the Metal Gamin. If that's not enough, these metal monkeys start off with armor 2... so you're armor 4 with a cast of Decembers Touch. If it turns out you need to cast Decembers Curse on your own model, these guys get a positive flip on the resist duel so you can greater control over getting a positive flip for damage. There's actually more reasons to take them, but at this point I'm really just reading the card. Think of it this way: for one more soulstone then an Ice Gamin, you're getting more armor then an Ice Golem, self healing, faster. You're losing a range attack, shatter, and the Bite of Winter aura.
  3. I really like the colors on Collodi and his marionettes, nice work.
  4. The way you've explained it is perfect. If you're still experiencing problems, walk it through with the guy. Take a look at your card and see if his explanation makes sense. Just glancing at the Heart Stopper trigger: well that will never go off. If every Mask results in a 0, you can't get the requirments and have any casting total. Hangman's Knot is only cast-able by a 5 cards, a 12 or a Red Joker. That's a 9.25% chance of casting, that's pretty unlikely. Severed Ties is a Red Joker only. That's a 1.85% chance. If after explaining all that he still doesn't get it... congratulate him on walking upright and find better friends.
  5. Moreover Severed Ties has a cc of 14 and a mask/tome in the cast. Hmm, so with Jack Daw's ca of 6... Mr.Know-it-all theory is that the only way to cast this 0 spell is to use the inherent mask in your ca, making the total 0/mask, and then a Red Joker? Silly.
  6. Desperate Merc with Seamus nets you a card, corpse and a heal between 4-8, and all that's after hes unleashed hell on the enemy. If you combine them with a nurse you get even more bang for your buck. Hans can be amazing once you figure where to place him. With Nico you have undying wall that he can shoot through, and more importantly hit troops that try to avoid you. With Seamus at higher point levels combined with Bette you can sacrifice their entire crew or just make them discard their entire hand.
  7. You might want to consider what faction models you like the look and story the most. Because of the crossover of units it's often cheaper to buy another starter then individual packs. On Ratty's page http://malifaux.nezumi.me.uk/ you can read the three Malifaux Chronicle's, might help you get an idea of who you want to play.
  8. I like it! Always been a big fan of Harley Quinn and jesters in general.
  9. Santiago is a model I find hideous! The original McMourning is just bleh. If they put them into plastic won't change that. It does make it easier for me to convert it, but the easy of conversion didn't stop me from removing Nico's vulture. Nor did it prevent the replacement of McMournings claw with a scalpel. If you look at a lot of Malifaux mini's they are very two dimensional and have a more realistic per portioned sculpt then others on the market right now. I don't think that will change drastically. The alternate sculpts have brought more 3d aspects to the models and I think people are happy with that. The plastics are bringing options to our doors: you have the options of different arms/weapons and the option of posing the models a little more. I do hope they avoid giving us small easily breakable objects like Miss Terious's axe. I'm very worried about how the new Resser entrails-woman will come out.
  10. In some ways I agree with you enren37. The Wyrd plastics are pretty frail, and some are lacking quite a bit in detail. The two hanged are very low in detail, and yes a GW tree set is better quality: the grooves are deeper, it's studier and it takes up more space. Having taken a much closer look at the Miss Terious box I'm a little disappointed as well. Just looking at that axe and zombie hand... yup those are gonna snap right off. That said, I think you're arguing more about style than construction. For instance my Lazarus is perfectly made. It's made in the Wyrd style, which people either love or hate, but I'm not seeing any construction errors -Now if only my box had come with a "Card" my point would be better -. I can imagine your frustration, lord knows I felt it fixing my Papa Loco's chain, or my Hanged chain, Jack Daw, Rotten Belles umbrellas, even Leveticus's cane has been a pain. Had similiar problems playing with Moria Goblins (GW), and eventually found a way of working with it. omnivision6: I understand you're a henchman, and thus have invested some care and effort into this hobby, so when a person speaks ill of it a knee jerk reaction is to insult: but couldn't you get the name right? Sandwich did his little rant and took off, end story. Referring to ehren37 as Sandwich doesn't make the conversation any more adult, in fact I'm pretty sure it degrades it.
  11. With the change from metal to plastic (Puppetwars) and high cost of the Hanging Tree's do you have any doubts concerning future purchases? Do you see the inclusion of tournament awarded prizes (stickers), or the addition of Henchmen rewards (Santana), as a successful way of promoting the game? or is it a hindrance? (clique within a clique) How do you feel about adopting a strategy used in Brit tournaments: of each tournament goer encouraged to bring a piece of terrain? Have you enjoyed the stories from Book 4? Do you feel you have a good grasp of who the Ten Thunderers are, or is this a repeat of the Gremlins?
  12. Yeah Adepticon was first choice, but baby-Ray was born on April 2. That threw a little monkey wrench in that idea. When we left we straight to Naperville (went to Central 15 years ago), stocked up on Oberweis Milk some great deep dish, and fled northward - so trip wasn't a complete waste. Gencon's coupon book was the slap in the face. Now in all fairness, Wyrd had by far the BEST DEAL. Buy two terraclips, get a free clip pack. So spend $80, get $40 free. Great deal, but I have terrain, and I so wanted the new models. Some of these deals, wow just look: pg 11 CoolStuffInc.com - $2 off any board game. $5 bonus when you sell us $50 in Magic Minis or CCG's. $100 gift certificate raffle. pg 15 CrystalCastle.com 20% off Gen Con 2012 Anniversare Special Limited Edition Commemorative Dice Set. Plus (limited supply) a FREE Gen Con D6 Or the single greatest deal *rolls eyes* Pg 19. Visit booth #1743 for your FREE MINIATURE & PAINTING LESSON Games Workshop. I can't believe they even wasted paper on that.
  13. Well I'm in Scarborough, would have no problem going downtown for a game. I usually get together with my friend Steve over at X-Planet in Mississauga. BUT, would love a chance to get some fun games in. Mostly a Seamus player here, but I do own the other Ressers (and Levi). I have loads of terrain, forests, buildings, terraclips, castles... wow I have a lot of junk.
  14. Hi, I'm Ray. I was at Gencon, where I only signed up for Wyrd events (6x total). I came in 3rd in the first story event and ended the second story event winning table #4. I never lost a game, nor changed my list... which makes my choice of Seamus a fun one and profitable one. That said, I'm not coming back -not without some major changes, and then there's the trust issues. 1) Time: Sucked. Never prevented me from getting to know my opponent, making a new friend, and having a fun time. It really rewarded a player who got a good hand, and could score easy vp's fast. 2) Terrain: I remember hearing praises about the Terrain at Adepticon (pretty sure it was on the Gamers Lounge). How people came over and were really impressed by it, and wanted to play on it. With the exception of a "fighting pit" (table #8 if memory serves) all I saw were Terraclips: city. No color, no flash, so it's very hard for me to get excited. You helped release the new Terraclips stuff, and I never saw it (outside of demo table). It's pretty short sighted, as you guys even offered a cupon : buy two Terraclips and get a free connector box. 3) Painting: On Thursday around 11:00 I ended up at your booth (with wife and son in tow) and awaited my turn to purchase. I overheard someone asking if he could play today with "an" unpainted model. The guy responded with "Oh you're making me into the bad guy here/gonna get me in trouble. Sure, it's ok." That didn't bother me, accidents/memory/life happens. However when we look ahead 3+ hours (my 3rd game of the tournament, story encounter), I end up against a gremelin crew sprayed white. This wasn't the same guy in line. Now let me preface this by saying the guy was a great opponent, had a blast playing/trash talking against him, oh and I won! I even got prizes, prizes which I gave away to my best opponents. But what would have happened had I lost? Losing to an unpainted army is cheating. Half the fun of coming to a tournament is to see the paintjobs. So this was the 3rd table, that means he had to score very well on his last two games. How is that fair to them? 3) Beginners aka Ringers tournament: Wow. So I showed up 45 minutes early to this one. As I sat reading the rules, I overheard some people talking. They were going into an serious discussion of how they choose crews, picking adaptability, speed and damage over durability. How that was crucial to playing in tournaments like this. One mentioned he had collected the full range of Neverborn and most of the Outcasts. The conversation turned to obscure rules questions before the tournament started. At that point I wasn't surprised when they're names were called out for the "Beginners of Malifaux" tournament. I tried to put that behind me. What right did I have to comment? I came in third in the story encounter, I started to feel bad and wondered if I should back out. I told myself I wouldn't pick the same list and try some less optimal choices/schemes. First opponent was a ringer. He was a dick. The rules marshall's called over 6x in less then 2 full turns (and we were playing fast, we're talking 20 minutes here). I let him use an aura through an object, and walked away from the game/tournament. But what were my options? The goal of tournaments is to meet some people, challenge yourself, and lose yourself in the game/friends. I knew exactly how bad I would feel if my next opponent I turned into that dick. It took a lot of convincing, but I showed up the next day. I had a fun time, and asked my opponents about their experiences in the "Beginners" tournament. VERY similar. 4) Story Encounters: For those that don't know the rules: they weren't that good. Sounds like I'm being such an ass, but here is my reasoning why. If you dedicated yourself to accomplishing these very silly objectives, you would do it. The enemy could not get to you in time. By the time they did get to you, they couldn't kill you in time. Assuming they brought the right counter units, and even did get the perfect firing angle, open terrain, etc. you still wouldn't die, because chances are it was your master and you'd just use some stones. If you had six turns to do it, maybe, but games didn't go beyond the start of 4 (most, halfway through third). Three of the story encounters had a monster, all the encounters required some marker, either a Breach Marker/Grave Marker/Hanging Tree. For the first Story Tournament: no markers, no monster. We weren't told we needed them ahead of time... that would have just been intelligent. At the beginning of the battle we had to come up with stuff (My "Teasdale Ghoul" was an unpainted Goblin Catapult). Now the rules for these guys... they were dumb! Way too complicated. Especially considering the time format we had to work with. Also the control aspects of these monsters are silly. They can switch sides at the drop of a hat, require you to spend a lot of soulstones or just effort to even make them work for you. Both winners of table 2-3 took one look at the rules are realized the same thing: You have no control over this thing, it's easy to kill, and it's gonna go rogue when it's beside your models... let the other guy invest in this. (That's what we did, it worked just as we saw, we both won). 5) Quality: This ticked me off the most. I saw very briefly the gorgeous demo tables. They had color, they looked amazing, they had style! Effort had been made! When it came to the tournaments, you failed me. Tables were grey. The models you did eventually provide... were also grey. Because you didn't paint them. In fact, you didn't clean the mold lines off, nor did you glue them together properly as my "gift" of a Hanging Tree will attest. There's a 4 mm gap seperating the base from the trunk. You didn't provide Story models! Even look at Puppet Wars, the models were only inked! You provided the models and all you did was spray white, red ink for guild, green for ressers, yellow for outcasts. The gaming was held up by a painting competition, which is just idiotic but more then enough has been said on the Time. Everything felt rushed. I remember hearing that 80% of the new book was to be available at Gencon. I never saw that. In fact, since I didn't show up Sunday I never even got a chance to buy the Arcanist box. I'm not sure I will now. The Hanging Tree was a silly buy on my part and I regret it. The whole sticker thing... well I don't know, since it's not up yet. Even the story for book 4, which I finished reading yesterday, just seemed rushed. Didn't inspire me outside of Lucas's. I drove from Ontario to this tournament. I dragged my beautiful wife, and my screaming four month old a 12 hour drive through the most boring countryside to play here. I took a day off work just so I could convert, base, and paint my models. Hotel, gas, food arn't your concern. However I shelled out $140 for tickets for the both of us, and another $32 for my events (my wifes were free). What I wanted, were all the new resser stuff $200? Puppet Wars $85, Nightmare Lord Compy $200 books 1+4 $30/$35 any models for the story encounter $50? I could have been persuaded to pick up the necessary models for The Dreamer $150? So that's around $600. What I ended up buying was Book 1+4, Lazarus and the trees, $180. That's a horrible sale for you guys. Especially when you consider how much I spent at Privateer Press booth, those were great deals! My wallet and I would have had a better time going to a semi-local tournament and purchasing from http://www.miniaturemarket.com/ . Had it not been for the Bike show, the amazing WW2 museum, and the really friendly people I met I would have really been angry. To summarize: Gencon sucks, 4/10 stars, I doubt I'll be back.
  15. I'm pretty stoked about Book 4. Also I thought they were re-releasing Book 1, but maybe I'm mistaken. Then there's the models for the story encounters, and I remember something about a few nightmare Lord Chompy's still kicking around. Miss Terious has to be up there too, and shouldn't be that difficult. Oh, and I'll have to try and bribe/imbibe any Henchmen who aren't attached to the Santana model. Puppet Wars should be up there too! Hmm, well this is starting to get a little long and I can feel my wallet shrinking, so I'll end with this prayer: please don't let my wife see this post. (forgot the Hanging Tree!)
  16. My toughest battles are always against varied crews. When you get that sweet combo of speed, strength, and endurance together, you have a good crew. If you can combine it with a beautiful paint job and be a fun opponent, that makes an amazing game. Ignoring paint, or you being a nice guy, if I saw you setting up that crew across from me I'd be less then thrilled. Reminds me a lot of the Aethervox episode about Nicodem, where the guest suggested picking up 6x Punk Zombies. It might work, you might even kick some serious butt, but I can't see it being interesting to play against. It's really just 6.5 Stalkers and a beat stick. I'd give it 3/5 Stars, more if amazing paintjob!
  17. Heh, actually I don't find him that effective, just flexible. So more on what i did a poor job explaining earlier: Molly gives Seamus +3 walk. Seamus then uses up to two ap to get in an ideal position (within 4" of 2-3 models). He then uses Face of Death (Terror 14) and activates No Escape on lowest WP. Assuming it's turn two and you've cast Face of Death already, you manifesting is almost assured. Even if he resists the terror, chances are you have a belle (or two) in your crew and you have a few lures. If you have a nurse, you can pull off a turn two manifest. -I do not think it's worth it, because Necrotic Ministrations is that good. No Escape lets you charge, not just attack! You can now reposition Seamus and move that beautiful 4" Terror 14 bubble around. Block los to Seamus, or engage a further target. At this point your opponent has used a lot of high cards. I rarely bother cheating Seamus's defense. It's average. I assume that every time hes hit he should be losing 3 wounds, but occasionally you are out of position and get hit by something silly, like Lady J. You can expect to lose 10-11 wounds if the cards really go her way. She should never get that last one. If you use a stone to try to increase your defense, you're already behind by 3. Even more if once you consider that you will most likely be losing the duel first, have no defensive triggers, and Lady J can cheat and stands a 25.92% chance of dealing a further point of damage. (it's even WORSE with onslaught!). Now what if you just do a damage prevention flip? The best damage she can do vs you is 10. No matter what happens, it'll take another 2 hits to kill Seamus. Regaining wounds! If you're still engaged, you won't be shortly. Belle's, Copycat, Dead Rider you have options to be pulled from combat. Assuming you have a desperate merc, dog or even the belle that just saved you, you life drain it. Typically I life drain twice, then Drain Soul. At a minimum I've just gained 6 wounds, a stone and another card from a Belle. On an unlucky flip you can go right back to full from a single desperate merc (5 Drain life, 2 Necrotic Ministrations, then the healing flip). Going back to the typical 3 wounds a hit, it'll take another 4 hits to kill you. That's if no one else dies within 6. McMourning is our melee master. Nico has his horde. Kirai has her movement. Seamus is the poor misunderstood boy in the corner.
  18. It's the +3 movement. Utilizing that 14 rush and and popping your terrifying up to 14 with your 0 action. Nice threat range but the fun hasn't stopped. My defense doesn't have to beat the total of the shot, it has to beat what the defense of the guy I'm in close combat with. That'll mean he using 3 cards in a best case (for Seamus) scenario. 1x for the terror, 1x for the hit, 1x for the schmuck's defense. With 14 movement you should have positioned so you're blocking Los, or at worst minimizing cc retaliations. Maybe your opposing master is a cc guy: little different, same principal. 1x card for the charge and 2 ap for the charge, leaves Seamus with 12 wounds with at best (Lady J) one straight flip, then a double negative. He will survive and models will die around him, healing him like crazy! I haven't used any Ss yet. Hard to kill, 4 soul stones and 12 wounds, one hit should never kill you. More detail later, in car on iPhone.
  19. I picked Saemus, but not due to thinking hes the weakest, more because hes the easiest to play wrong. Nico's concept is pretty simple. Advance toward objective and create the right units, while disabling and or buffing your own. A lot like Montgomery in WW2. So long as you're good at thinking ahead, and getting the right mix down (and not getting caught flat footed!) you win. Saemus has a one-shot weapon with a range of 8. It's easier to counter the one-shot aspect with a high card, soulstone, or just cover. If it fails you're left 8 inches away and you don't have anymore offensive abilities since Drain life has a range of 6. Plus to get the really amazing ability of an additional card and some life you have to be within 6 anyhow. If I decide that I'm going to deal out damage I have to put a lot of effort, and some pretty high cards to get what I want. That'll usually leave him pretty exposed, and you'll start going downhill fast. The comments about a low cache.. eh.. I don't need more then 4. I don't see the validity in more, he should never be in position to use that many ap's (or take that many hits). Finally terrifying... you people know he can get up to Terrifying 14/16? Average wp is 6, so that's about 31.48% chance of survival. Biggest problem is his 0 action stops working at the end phase, so you gotta commit him early. Saemus's plays best when hes teamed up with Molly who offshoots all of his weaknesses (and gets him Avatar state pretty quick, which is just AWESOME). The fact that he needs Molly to do it, pushes Nico further ahead. People get confused playing him turning him into a "summoner", which isn't his focus.
  20. There's a great podcast on Perdita tactics the Aethervox made a month ago, Episode 15. I've listened to it three times trying to get a leg up on my main opponent, and it's helped tremendously! Perdita's fast, can lock down a section with her "quick draw", and due to her range doesn't need to rush in recklessly. She can use those additional actions going into defensive stance or utilizing Obey to help the crew, while waiting for them to get in position. Her avatar is beautiful, but hard to get the requirements off vs me (Saemus crew). Avatars interesting, Executioner when he connects is amazing, but the sleeper-hits have been the Guardian (on Santiago) and Pale Rider. Having that much speed, durability and power really makes me second guess my positioning. Perdita can be pretty tricky, not just a point and shoot model. Also a good painting tutorial for her on YouTube
  21. Wow, no love for Hammy? While I have been on the receiving side of Hamelins bad-touch a time or two, it's important to remember that it requires a fair bit of talent to get the most out of Hamelin. Sure it can feel like Hamelin is walking around with "god-mode" on, but once you realize your goal isn't to just kill him, he's actually fun to play against. Even more so if you stop thinking of him as the Master of a crew and more like the Tyrant of Plague that he is. Malifaux's brief description is, "A character driven skirmish game", and baby does Hamelin have that. His story in book two sold me on the game. It was so awesome I'm having to bite my tongue here and not rob you people of its ending. Suffice to say, the secret to beating Hamelin is on page 237. The only word of caution I'll give is that Hamelin (much like Pandora) has a very powerful ability. So when you start becoming proficient with that ability, if your opponents don't start learning their own tricks and how to counter yours it can seem like things are unfair. Try swapping crews and playing again. There is a rumor that Hamelin's due for an update, and that may be true. I've only found three things that are silly (not broken!) with him. 1) If things go your way early, your turns can get pretty long 2) a wp 13 duel to shoot a rat catcher, but shooting zombies or Simulacrum 29 is ok? Heck his armor ability has him covered in rat! Why would you not see this guy as a threat? 3) Avatar of Contagion melee is a 2/3/5 flip, Master of Plague is 0/3/9. 10 damage feels wrong. Whew, this is way too long. Play Hamelin, be a good sport, have fun.
  22. Just so we're on the same page here, page 9 to be exact: "Constructs: Modls with the Construct Characteristic are non-living and are immune to Moral Duels (pg 56)" And Carrion Effigy, pg 181, Twisted Fates: "(1) Diminished Resistance, (no resistance, 4 aura) Enemy models cannot ignore effects and lose all immunities" So how exactly are they ignoring the terror?
  23. If you want the focus of your army to be fear, it can still be done. Try the carrion effigy. Hes worked well for me in the past, with removing those immunities and sniping from afar. I've found it a perfect fit for Seamus due to his lack of summoning focus. So if you are going the terror route keep focusing on your strengths, don't try to make up for your weaknesses. Canines, Hanged, and Desperate Mercs all help with fear, out activating, and putting as many corpse tokens out on the field.
  24. A standard box set costs $20-30. This (typically) gives you a good idea of the master, and a glimpse where your future purchases could take you. This doesn't apply to any of our masters! Mostly due to our factions ability to bring new models on the field. Now the closest master that does follow the standard template of box set + blister = DONE, would be Seamus. Once you pick up some dead doxies ($12-15) you have yourself an army, with all options covered. So after a few games you should have a good idea what a Resser master is, right? Well no, not exactly. The problem is you've picked the master in an army of summoners, who isn't really a summoner. This can lead to a lot of confusion as to what your role is. Lets use Lilith as an example as she has some of the greatest appeal from a new arrival of Malifaux. 1) Box set + blister = done! 2) Limited model specialty 3) Clearly defined role. So Lily is cheap to start, you know exactly what you should be buying, and you know what you're supposed to do. You aren't debating melee vs range, or endurance vs speed, magic vs physical. Everything is fast, melee focused with high damage. Also the few magical or range attacks available to you are through unique models, so you'd only be getting one anyhow. Points one and two apply to Seamus, but clearly defined role... nope. You don't have the uber cb of a melee master, nor the raw damage dealing (from afar) of most casters. Even your greatest used skill (terror) is limited by models immune to it's effect. So instead of a clear cut easy to access master, you've actually been given a subtle master who relies a lot on the interaction and adaptability of his force. One who rewards you for being very close (but not engaged) in the action. For the most part that's what Ressers do, rely a lot upon the interaction of their troops. So when you don't have flesh constructs, mindless zombies, or rogue necro's, etc. etc. etc. you aren't getting the full effect of your faction. The biggest obstacle a Resser faces is jugging three resources: corpse tokens, models in your kit, and crows in your hand.
  25. There are three ways I know of where you can get information for building crews. I'd suggest you just take a peak at the first two and pick up a box set of the one you like the most. You also could pick up "Rising Powers" for more options (great background), or "Twisted Fates" for advance options (current story). pullmyfinger.wikispaces.com/home - gives a tactical breakdown of 95% of the units out there, but doesn't give the points value. malifaux.netzumi.me.uk/ - listed by faction, full point cost but missing a lot of the newer stuff.
