  1. Evening all, It may be a long shot, but my wife is looking is looking for an Ice Golem puppet. Hopefully someone has one they don't want - otherwise I may have to try my hand at sculpting one for her. The only puppets she has to trade are Ronin, Rotten Belle and Razorspine Rattler, or I can pay via Paypal. I also have some all manner of bits and pieces I've collected over the years including spare Inquisitor scale bits, a resin Plague Demon by Gribbly Miniatures, a part-painted Emperor class Battleship for Battlefleet Gothic. Regards, Dave
  2. I don't think it would be too difficult to file off the entrails and patch up the holes in their stomachs with some putty.
  3. Sure, but it was a few weeks ago so I may be wrong... I think the outside of his robes were Fortress Grey, shaded black then highlighted with a load of thin coats of Fortress Grey with more and more white added each time. I think the inside of the robes were Khemri Brown, shaded with Devlan Mud and highlighted with Khemri Brown and Bleached Bone. Thanks - it's been a while since I sculpted anything but a ragged sack of entrails with a face is a fairly good way to get back into sculpting - much easier than trying to sculpt a person anyway! I'd never liked Zoraida much as I was worried that I'd paint her and she'd just look like a pathetic wizened old woman, but when I hit on the idea of using the Voodoo Lady skull face paint from Tales of Monkey Island then the whole look fit into place and I saw how I could make her extremely creepy. Originally I was going to freehand voodoo symbols on her skirt, but on a whim decided to try them on the floor instead - and I'm glad I did as I think it really makes those bases fit the crew.
  4. Evening, I know it's been a while since I updated this thread but I have been keeping up with my painting. I finished my December crew the other week and have found them a lot of fun to play as well as fun to paint. Snow Storm in particular is one of my favourite models. After finishing that crew I decided to do a Neverborn crew. For some reason, despite really liking the Silurid models I really didn't enjoy painting them and I think it shows as they're not my best work. The rest of the crew were a lot of fun and I painted them in double-quick time. I sculpted myself a third Stitched - almost dead but dragging himself along by his hooks and refusing to die. Zoraida was the most fun character to paint - I based her paint scheme and face paint on the Voodoo Lady from Monkey Island. My wife bought me a Lilith box set for my birthday, so I'll be painting her next... - Dave
  5. They look great - very nice work. The bases are really great as well. You should curve a sheet of white paper under and behind the minature when you take photos - a plain background always looks better than having them stood in front of paint pots. And it would also help the camera focus on the model rather than the paint pots as happened in some of the pics.
  6. I agree with the last two posters - Square Orange Games were fantastic and I always used to buy my Malifaux stuff from there due to their good prices, fast delivery, and excellent service and communications. However my last order with them was never dispatched - I emailed several times over a period of about a month but got no response, and there was no answer on the phone either so I felt forced to put in a claim via Paypal. They couldn't get a response either and so I ended up getting a refund. Nothing 'false' or 'malicious', I'd have been happy to continue to do business with them if only they'd got in contact and explained what was going on and why the delay, but they didn't and so now I buy my Malifaux stuff elsewhere.
  7. I bought Puppet Wars for my wife last Christmas - she loves playing games and has had the occasional foray into wargames but prefers the boardgame-type (for example Blood Bowl has been a favourite). I've been wargaming for 20+ years. I say this to give some context to what I say below. We've played Puppet Wars a lot over the last year and enjoyed it immensely. We found the rules simple to understand and and get started with and there's enough depth that we're still finding new combos that work well and new tactics to try. We both love the fact that the puppets each have their distinct personality and rules, and although we've bought boosters my wife decided to only paint one of each to keep their individuality. I have to admit that we haven't played Unstitched, but have read through the rules and weren't impressed, so decided to continue with the game as it is. The changes to the puppets take away a lot of their individuality, which is one of the main things we love about the game. We also feel that having three of each puppet would also take away their individuality. I don't know about other people, but we really like playing fairly small games with just 8-10 puppets each, so having three of each and a larger board doesn't really interest us. I also agree with the comments about it not being clear who the game is marketed at - I can't imagine playing it with anyone else in my family - it's too much of a wargame for them - and the Unstitched rules seem too simplified to appeal to most wargamers. Not sure what direction I'd take the game in, but I thought I'd share our thoughts about what we like about the game and why it appeals to us. - Dave
  8. My wife has a few spare unpainted, unassembled puppets (with cards); Executioner, Death Marshall, Cherub, Rotten Belle, Ronin, Razorspine Rattler, Convict Gunslinger (She also has an extra Ronin card and a Silurid without a card that were miss packs in one of the boosters.) She'd love to trade to get hold of the puppet Hog Whisperer and Piglet (assuming they come with cards) - she says they're adorable! If you're interested, send me a PM. We're away from home for the weekend, but when I get back I can send you photos of the puppets. - Dave
  9. Nice work. What did you use for the base? And how did you do the icicles?
  10. Thanks for all the nice comments. I thought for a long time about whether to glue the tree in place, and in the end I decided I would, mostly because with it fixed down I was better able to use static grass, tufts etc to disguise where it joins the base. Next off the painting table is the Silent One; I've also started the December Acolyte - he shouldn't take too long to finish and then it's onto Storm... - Dave
  11. Evening all, As planned I got back to painting my Rasputina crew and have managed to finish three models in a weekend which is really good going for me. First up, Rasputina's totem - the Wendigo; Next was the Blessed of December; And finally Snow, who I've magnetised so she can be used as a Silent One or based along with Storm. Now I just need to use Ratty's templates to make a card for her. I've also started on the other Silent One - hopefully it won't take too long to finish her and then there's just the December Acolyte and Storm to go... - Dave
  12. Thanks. Do you mean the ivy around the stone? If so that's Army Painter Poison Ivy. I also used a few small clumps of Woodland Scenics Clump-Foliage.
  13. Evening all, I decided to take a break from painting my Rasputina crew to build and paint my Hanging Tree. I decided that I was going to put in a bit more effort and make it the centrepiece of a creepy overgrown graveyard. As you can see, I decided not to use the small hanging trees as Hanged and instead used them in the graveyard (with one chopped down to just a stump). And here are a few shots of my Nicodem and Lady Justice crews going about their business... Building this was fun I'm really looking forwards to getting back to painting my Rasputina crew - I used them in a game the other week and really liked them so am keen to paint her some new minions - so expect more updates soon... - Dave P.S. Apologies that the photos are a bit grainy - it's just too big to fit in my usual lightbox setup.
  14. What scale are they? I couldn't see one on the site, but they look 28mm - is that correct? EDIT: Sorry, I see it now; 'Care will also be taken to size the figures so they will be compatible with other models from the most popular manufacturers within the 30mm range.'
  15. And, after a short break during which I finished her base, I'm back with Miss Terious - the latest member of my Lady Justice crew. Now that I've seen her photographed I'm going to go back and tidy up the front of her vest and maybe add a little more ivy to the gravestone. I plan to start playing Rasputina and Justice in the near future, so once I finish the December Cultists I'll probably paint a couple more Guild models. Maybe a Warden? Or another Austringer? Or perhaps some Riflemen when they're released? Not yet sure what would work best with this crew... - Dave
  16. Evening all, It's been a couple of weeks since I last updated this, but during that time I've started a new crew - Rasputina. So far I've painted the boxed set and a totem... I've also assembled Snow Storm, Wendigo and a December Acolyte, and am waiting for a Silent One and Blessed of December to arrive to round out the crew. I've also magnetised Snow so she can be based separately to Storm for use as a second Silent One. It might be a while before these get painted as I'll be busy for the next couple of weeks, but I should have another update shortly as I have one more model finished who I'll go photograph shortly... - Dave
  17. Or, if you're in the UK, Heresy Miniatures do a set that's perfect for pinning miniatures; http://www.heresyminiatures.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=66_70
  18. I have drill bits in a range of sizes, so drill a hole roughly the same size as the trimmed down tab - then I file the tab down so it fits perfectly.
  19. I'll second this suggestion - this is the method I tend to use.
  20. They're slightly smaller than Inquisitor models - they're 1/35 (about 50mm) compared to Inquisitor's heroic 1/32 (54mm). That said the difference is not so great that they can't be used for Inquisitor but, in my experience, tend to look like adolescents or weedy adults. Shame they're too big for Malifaux and too small for Inquisitor - they are great models so I might get a couple anyway...
  21. The rules manual says; If one or more, but not all, straight lines drawn from the model to the target cross an intervening item, then the model's LoS will be obstructed. The model can see its target, but the target will receive cover (see p.41) against the model's ranged attacks (z) if the target is within 1” of the intervening base. If the intervening object has the obscuring trait, the target receives soft cover; if it has the blocking trait, the target receives hard cover. So applying that to this example... One or more lines cross an intervening item and the target is within 1" of the intervening base - the base has the Obscuring trait, therefore the target gets Soft Cover. At least, that's how I'd interpret it...
  22. Has this changed or been errataed somewhere? The Rules Manual states 'A model falling at least 3” suffers a Damage Flip of 2/4/6 for each full 3” fallen' - so is in terms of inches rather than Ht.
  23. I printed Ratty's counter sheets onto A4 sticky labels, then stuck them to pre-30mm or 50mm diameter and 2mm thick pieces of MDF and cut them out. It took a couple of hours to do them all (I made a whole load of them - everything from blast markers to corpse and scrap) but they look great and were pretty cheap. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2mm-MDF-Round-Bases-for-Wargames-suitable-for-all-scales-periods-and-genres-/120974885708?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL&var=&hash=item1c2aaa434c#ht_930wt_922
  24. I'm still pretty new to the game so would like to understand why it does not (or does) apply - so far I've not used an avatar but plan to in my next game or two...
