  1. We will be running an Adepticon warm-up tourney at Nu Brand Gaming on Saturday March 19th. 3 Rounds - Arrive at 11:30am, first round at noon. Wrap by 6:45pm. 8-12 players expected - Prize packs are in! Strats are pulled directly from the Adepticon Rules Pack, rounds 1,2, and 3. Round 1 - Reconnoiter, Flank Deployment Round 2 - Extraction, Standard Deployment Round 3 - Collect The Bounty, Close Deployment As they aren't providing schemes this year, each table can flip their own. (It's just practice after all!) This is simply an excuse for folks to get in three games on a Saturday and offer a chance to try out new lists for Adepticon! No charge except the standard NBG Saturday entrance fee - paid directly to the store. ($5 for members, $10 for non-members.) Nu Brand Gaming Address: 194 31st Street, Brooklyn, NY 11232 Phone:(646) 696-4132
  2. Awesome to see Malifaux has finally made it to my ancestral homeland. Best of luck!
  3. So the initial fanfare of the pre-release is behind us, now on to fine tuning the details and other odds and ends. Some pretty epic prize support came in from Wyrd, so that's pretty legit. Also, a few folks have been asking about more budget concious lodging options. The default for most attendees has been to rent a double-queen room at one of the hotels listed and then shack up with three other attendees to keep costs down. However I've also checked out AirBNB, and there are quite a few rooms for rent within a few blocks of the venue starting as low as $45 per night - so if you are flying solo you may want to check that out. Finally, I will be updating the round timing slightly. Having played in a few events with GG2016 - it is clear that there is a longer decision making process involved in the list building phase, and folks need a few more minutes to get settled at the start of a round. Play time for each round will remain the same, but there will be buffer time added between the announcement of pairings and the official start of the round to handle list building, scheme selection, terrain definitions, etc. Still tickets left as of this writing - get them before they are all gone!
  4. Planning to come up with a car full of NYers.
  5. I should be able to make the TOGIT event! See you there!
  6. Hey dropdead - check out the Nu Brand Gaming Open Play group on Facebook. That's the primary way for arranging games at Nu Brand and one of us can definitely get you a demo in the future. (PM me a line with your FB details if you can't find it and I will add you.)
  7. Hi Mike,

Long time no see - but I heard it through the grapevine that you have moved a bit further North and are getting back into Malifaux.

I played you on table one in a local tourney down in Northern Virgina a few years back and recall a certain killer instinct combined with amiable personality.

I wanted to invite you to BKFaux, our first 2-day 'GT' style event in the North East, to be held May 14th-15th.  We are looking to keep growing the Northeast tournament scene, and this will be the largest event to date at 44-players.

All the details are on the event page linked above, but if you had any questions about logistics, feel free to drop me a line any time!

    Welcome back through the breach!

Yup, just moved up to PA a couple hours north of DC along route 95.  Found a store a bit south in MD that I go to now - the henchman down there is Maht.

Thanks for letting me know about the BKFaux - let me ponder this one.  I convinced my wife to give me a pass to GenCon this year, and another to visit with some of my old college buddies.  I will have to build up some good will to get another pass this year too.  Is this an annual thing?  Might be easier to convince the wife on a non-GenCon year.

Cool! I'm in Philly quite often (in laws) so maybe I can bring my toys and get in a game some time.

This is the first time BKFaux has been run as a two-day event.  I will definitely run other events in the future, but really trying to fill this one to set the precedent and keep the event as a two-day 'GT'!

  8. Great move - stepping up to the big leagues! And I think you made the perfect choice with Curtis - his style is quite different from those 'other' game companies and uniquely showcases the style that makes Malifaux so great! Onwards and upwards!
  9. Hi all, I've been corralled into showing one of our local Warmachine aficionados the way to the Breach. A few other locals have inquired about Malifaux, so I will be taking this opportunity to give a group demo to walk everyone through the core rules followed by paring up for the real deal. No worries if you don't have models, I will have a bevy of crews to choose from, and now is as good a time as any to jump into one of the fastest growing mini-games at Nu Brand! We will be running demos from 6-10pm this Wednesday, 2/3/16 at Nu Brand Gaming. Address: 194 31st Street, Brooklyn, NY 11232 Phone:(646) 696-4132
  10. Sales are open! A scant 2 early-bird tickets left from the pre-sale as of this writing! https://www.eventbrite.com/e/bkfaux-iv-fauxgeddaboudit-tickets-20949240743
  11. I was able to lock down the final details - so I kicked off the pre-sale moments ago. Previous attendees, check your inboxes for details. I'll open it up to the general public on Saturday. So excited for the biggest NYC event yet!
  12. Absolutely - I just finalized all the key details and updated the main page. A pre-sale link will be going out to previous attendees soon and general release will commence next week!
  13. I'm curious why you don't offer a direct retail channel? Is it sort of the HBO Now vs. digital cable conundrum? You don't want to bite the hand that feeds? Just because essentially all of New York City is throttled by shitty distribution and we've basically given up and just order on line. Which is fine for my crew but makes it harder to grow the player base.
  14. Announcing BKFaux IV: Fauxgeddaboudit - a 44-player Malifaux 'Grand Tournament' that is open to the public on May 14th and 15th, 2016. It will be taking place at Nu Brand Gaming, a tabletop gaming venue in New York City. What do I mean by Grand Tournament? Simply a wargaming extravaganza that fills your weekend with Malifaux goodness - not to mention the largest stand-alone Malifaux tournament held in the US! Expanding to a two-day format is a major step forward to BKFaux, and was not a decision made lightly. Thank you to all previous attendees for your input and feedback that led to this exciting change. As we continued to grow, it was clear that more rounds were needed to create seperation in the field and allow players to face a wider variety of opponents. At the same time I want to keep the BKFaux vibe of a fun, relaxed and comfortable experience. This means not forcing players to rush towards unrealistic time-limits nor creating a gauntlet of an event with 5 rounds in a single day. Therefore I hope this expansion is greeted as the natural next step forward for Malifaux in the North East! Event Ticket Cost: The cost of the Event is $35. Early bird discount tickets will be available on a first-come-first-served basis, with the initial call going out to previous attendees in the BKFaux tradition. The event is expected to sell out. You must purchase a ticket via the Eventbrite page to secure a spot: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/bkfaux-iv-fauxgeddaboudit-tickets-20949240743 Tickets are non-refundable but are fully transferable up to the start of the event. If you face unforseen circumstances and can not attend, simply email me via the 'Contact' link at the bottom of the Eventbrite page and let me know the name of whomever you'd like to transfer your ticket to. If purchasing multiple tickets for your group, please send in their names as well via the Contact link. This is not mandatory but will speed things up at check in. There is no need to print out your tickets, simply arrive at the venue at 10:00am on 5/14. The Glittering Prizes: BKFaux Champion - Only one may lift the stein of glorious victory! Winner on Table 1 in the final round. The Renaissance (Man or Woman) Award - Only the most pedigreed and honorable may claim the chalice showing well-rounded expertise in Tournament Points + Painting Prowess + Sportsmanship 2nd Place (Maid of Honor/Best Man) GG Standard TP, Diff, VP 3rd Place (Bridesmaid or Groomsman #2) GG Standard TP, Diff, VP The Lofty Award - A goblet showing mastery and commitment to the craft of hobbying, painting and showmanship, suitable to display in a loft converted from an abandoned warehouse next to a Superfund site Peoples Choice - Player-voted Best in Show for painting and hobby skills Guy Smily Award - Denoting those who take their lumps with a smile on their face (Best sports - exclusive of other awards) Spoon - not necessarily wooden, because losing all your games doesn't mean you can't be classy Venue Information: Nu Brand Gaming is located at 196 31st Street Brooklyn, NY 11232. A significant build out of the space is in progress, and we are hard at work making sure all participants and guests will have a comfortable amount of space and amenities, including an outdoor seating area for lunch and breaks between rounds. Hotels: Numerous hotels are located within walking distance of the venue, many with rates starting below $100. 3 Star: Hotel BPM http://www.hotelbpmbrooklyn.com/ Best Western http://www.bwplusprospectpark.com/ 2 Star: Comfort Inn https://www.choicehotels.com/new-york/brooklyn/comfort-inn-hotels/ny391 Days Inn http://www.daysinn.com/hotels/new-york/brooklyn/days-inn-brooklyn/hotel-overview Red Carpet Inn http://bookroomsnow.com/property/red-carpet-inn-coney-island-brooklyn-ny/ Public Transit: To reach NBG via public transit - take the D, N or R train to the 36th Street Station in Brooklyn and walk 5 short blocks north to 31st Street. Train: If coming to New York via Amtrak, Exit Penn Station on the Seventh Avenue side and walk one block east to the Herald Square subway station, catching a Brooklyn-bound D train to 36th Street Station. Air: A fast public transit link from JFK is available - take the Air Tran to Jamaica Station where you can catch the LIRR to Atlantic Terminal. Nu Brand Gaming is one stop away via the southbound D or N subways to 36th Street, Brooklyn. If arriving at Laguardia, I recommend taking a taxi or car service - fares typically run approx. $25 + tip and up. From Newark Liberty, NJ Transit provides a rail link to Penn Station. From their follow 'Train' instructions above. Driving: Street Parking is generally accessible within a block or two of the venue, and it is custom to double park in front of the venue for a brief time to unload terrain fellow travelers. Please be courteous to our neighbors and be sure not to block any driveways when parking your vehicle. Dining: Menus for local restaraunts that deliver are available at the venue, and we can recommend both casual and fine dining spots nearby - just ask! Also there will be a loosely organized bar crawl in the neighborhood on Saturday night for those who wish to attend. Tournament Rules: All games will be played at 50SS. Please review and familiarize yourself with the 2016 Gaining Grounds document - It has everything you need to know! http://www.wyrd-games.net/s/Organized-Play-Formats-17km.zip We will be enforcing all Gaining Grounds 2016 Rules to the letter, Including painting requirements and proxy rules with the exception of pairings, dice usage and game length. I will be doing a Swiss pairing system that matches GG2016 except that it will prevent any player from pairing against the same opponent twice. You may use of any shape of polyhedral dice if you choose to use dice for tracking as described on page 4 of GG 2016, just be consistent and make your opponent aware of what type of die you are using if not a D6. All games will be played to 5 turns. (No random game length/flipping for additional turns.) The Final Round on Table 1 only: Play will continue for an additional turn if the score is tied at the end of round 5 and so on until there is a clear winner. Players must accurately note down the schemes they selected prior to the start of the match to recieve points for said schemes - absolutely no exceptions. Please bring a pen. We will be setting a relaxed 2 hour round time, with 15 minutes between rounds for pairings, reviewing strats & schemes, etc. All players are expected to complete their games in the allotted time. Strategies and schemes will be revealed to players at the end of each round when they receive the score sheet for the following round. Yes, this means there is a miniscule advantage for players who arrive on time or finish rounds early. Deal with it. Schedule: Saturday, 9:30am Doors Open - Early arrival for those contributing terrain. 10:00 Registration - Please arrive by 10:00am. Those arriving after the start of Round 1 will take a loss and then be paired accordingly in Round 2. 10:30 - Round 1 Pairings 10:45 - 12:45pm Round 1 12:45pm - 2:00 Lunch Break and Paint Judging 2:00 - Round 2 Pairings 2:15 - 4:15 Round 2 4:30 Round 3 Pairings 4:45 - 6:45 Round 3 7:00 Round 4 Pairings (To allow adequate bar crawl trash talking) Sunday, 9:00am Doors Open 9:30 - 11:30 Round 4 11:30 - 12:30pm Lunch Break 12:30pm - Round 5 Pairings 12:45pm - 2:45 Round 5 2:45 - 3:00 Award Ceremony Paint & Hobby Judging - For the awarding of the Renaissance and Lofty awards - participants display a legal 50SS crew along with the score sheet provided in the tourney packet over the lunch break on Saturday. Display bases and other accoutrement is allowed and encouraged. Participants should also use this time to record their vote for the 'Players Choice' award and turn their ballot in to the designated ballot box. Scores for the Lofty award will be awarded on a 15 point scale via a rubric with a median score of 7.5 and 15 for the winner. For the Renaissance award this aligns to a maximum tournament score of 15 for 5 wins and a Sportsmanship score of 5 for 5 best opponent votes, totaling 35/35 available points with Tournament points as the tie breaker. Players Choice is awarded simply to the player with the most votes, using the paint score as a tie breaker.
  15. Blaine played Yan Lo round 1 at Captaincon - I know this because he beat me handily that game!! :-o
  16. BKFaux was very close, but Ressurs eeked out a win followed by Arcanists. Ressurs was a diverse mix of McMourning, Molly and Tara. Arcanists was mono-Rasputina.
  17. Hmm my only question is do I need one pack or two??
  18. We tried to set up USA rankings based on warscore.net after malifauxrankings.com scrapped USA rankings, but it proved unworkable. Wanna program that up for us to? Cuz Tournafaux is amazing and I use it for all my tourneys! I will buy you a beer when I go to Stockholm.
  19. They sell a 3-day Malifaux pass and events are listed, but there are no details anywhere and I've heard nothing but radio silence. It is a bit disconcerting.
  20. So tickets are for sale for three days of Malifaux at this event on the Frontline Gaming website, but there is no post on the forums with additional details. Does anyone know what the deal is? Who is running it this year? I expected to see a lot more promotion at this point with the con only two months away.
  21. Associated to me means anything coming in to the duel, included suits added by other models abilities, vs. literally printed on the card. The example that came up in my game was Lenny granting Rams to other gremlins. That would be lost via 'associated' but remain via 'printed on card'.
  22. I used my gremliny pull to get Frank in the top 16 (I put him 5th), but sadly my other favorite old major missed the cut :'( Taking the survey was a great thought exercise, looking forward to doing this for other sets. Two suggestions: Best musician - 8 man bracket of the Crossroads 7 and Sue Best 4SS minion - so many great models in this bracket, and taking the SS cost factor out would help clarify the issue and streamline discussion.
