  1. I think CRC has it nailed right there. Though I find one shikome is enough to get by (I haven't bought a second yet).
  2. The Kirai box really does not function at all, and the addition of Seishin is the bare minimum needed to play. With at least one pack of Gaki (and the seishin) things are a little better. Don't get me wrong, once you have some more spirits, Kirai is fantastic and awesome and everything, but her starter pack is awful. The Colette box works much better than the Kirai box, but it does really want a pack of doves.
  3. Even without this, the fact that he's been posting this in pretty much every forum section is a pretty big giveaway. It is, of course, his to do with as he pleases. The attempt at subterfuge is kind of cute.
  4. The endtime is defined by the rulebook. Anything that doesn't otherwise specify lasts until the end of the turn. The Nurse's Massive Dose is listed as one of the example effects in the FAQ.
  5. I think the Rider brings a lot to McMournings crew, but doesn't gain that much. Nicodem, being more likely to take a Grave Spirit, and with the ability to heal the Rider, is probably the best master for the Rider. Overall, he's really good with both.
  6. Yeah, that is an odd corner case. Fixing it would make gunfighter more complex, but leaving it creates an "unrealistic" scenario.
  7. Yeah, I can only remember it happening to me once in my last handful of games, and I think I've only done it to my opponent once lately, as well. I'd say it sounds like bad luck, but I haven't been tracking that carefully.
  8. While I agree that is almost entirely a matter of perception, that doesn't make the match-ups any more fun, in any system.
  9. If you have the Grave Spirit, you can't have Lost Love, so you can't make him a spirit (in scraps). But yeah, magical damage will still hurt.
  10. With Kirai, use Lost Love to give him spirit. Any attack of less than 7 damage will only cause 1 wound.
  11. Seconded (or thirded or fourthed or whatever). I like these changes. They are simple, elegant, and provide much more benefit than they first appear to. Cache 5 would be nice (hey, so would cache 8, but that'll never happen), but I think 4 would be reasonable. I don't feel that Seamus is meant to be a "huge ranged threat," so I don't really like the idea of removing the 1 shot limit from the pistol, mostly as an aesthetic thing. As far as Anathema goes, I really don't want to ever see that on something that isn't an avatar. Some other reworking of Terrifying or Morale duels I would look at, but I think that Anathema is something that should be reserved to keep avatars special.
  12. If I'm going to be summoning with Evolve Spirit, I tend to go with Onryo. They cost only 1 wd more than a Gaki (essentially nothing) and they have much greater versatility. I don't tend to start with them very often, but I play a fair number of 25 ss games, and I tend to start with mostly materials on the table (Seishin, dog, merc, Datsue). They're not fantastic, but they're a 5 point model (often for 2 pts and 2 wds) that has a melee attack, ranged attack, debuff, deterent (immediate revenge), and Haunt. The trouble with Shikome is the extra Seishin they cost, and now that they don't get prey when summoned, I'm using them much less.
  13. Outnumbering is good, but some crews (showgirls spring to mind) will play havoc with weaker minions and you won't be able to accomplish anything. Of course, Colette can just Disappearing Act big guys... I play a mix, and I actually prefer the mid-range minis. 5-7 points have some of my favorites.
  14. You could use any of the zombie puppets from Puppet Wars, if you wanted. They're Wyrd minis, and technically tournament legal.
  15. Stab him in the face until it stops being funny? Just remember not to Black Joker damage on the Peacekeeper when it hasn't activated yet.
  16. Howdy I will be back at The Game Castle on Friday, July 08/03 running Malifaux demos. I'll be there from 7 (or a bit before) until close at 10. Anyone in the area, come on down and say hi.
  17. Kirai - turn 4-5 to "mop up" in Contain Power, and maybe Slaughter. Kirai can actually play Contain Power...
  18. New episode is very nice, but you ought to look up Morale duels in more detail, you have Frozen Heart a bit backwards. Good luck with Raspy, my wife plays a Cult list, and hasn't had tremendous success with it yet, though she has blown Lady J away a few times.
  19. I don't know what a "wargrog" is, so I'm not sure whether I should be challenging you to a duel or not... Regardless, none of the "tricks" are mandatory, and developing the pure skill of estimation renders them unnecessary in any case. I also maintain that there is a large difference in scale between being able to calculate an unknown distance based on some known observations and variables and having access to perfect knowledge of all distances on the tabletop. Beyond that, I can't say I'm that interested in the far-reaching applications etc, etc. I understand your position, but I don't share it. If the game does someday change to allow pre-measuring, I'll pre-measure things, but I won't vote for it if asked.
  20. No, I think there is a large difference in scale as well as substance here. Also, on a loosely related note: while my opinion regarding pre-measuring isn't that strong, I think adding a random component to charges would make me quit playing. Not that anyone has suggested it, specifically, but it's been mentioned as part of the GW change.
  21. I think David Tennant would make a better Seamus than Hamelin.
  22. Yep, and all the players who don't know them yet should pick them up, too. I disagree, sort of? It is a slippery slope case to argue that pre-measure should be added to accommodate disabilities, and could then lead to other "fixes." However, a "slippery slope" argument is itself a logical fallacy, and should not be considered valid. Sorry, semester of philosophy compels me to point these things out.
