  1. Probably the biggest factor for game balance is your own skill at playing. Know your own team (note to self: read the errata a couple of times more, along the rulebook), know your enemy. The possibility to choose your crew after you know what you are supposed to be doing is a big factor too. During the game the biggest mistakes you can do are probably with the activation order. Activate a model too early and it might block your moves and LoS for the rest of your models or end up killed by the enemy. Generally speaking, as long as you know what you are doing the game should be quite balanced. You won't necessarily do great in every scenario if you only have one crew set without extra models, but even with that some strategies are certainly possible to win. As for certain masters that are plain better than others, it seems that the general consensus on the forums is that Perdita and Lilith are the more straight forward masters while Zoraida, Som'er and Leveticus are harder to figure out. Som'er isn't necessarily that hard to figure out (keep the gremlin and mosquito factory up and you can't go wrong) but because his choice of crew is very limited and the Gremlins (including Som'er) aren't the best fighters out there. Leveticus because he has to be precision killed every round or every second round to keep the cards coming to his hand so that he can lay waste on his enemies with spells. And Zoraida has to rely on her crew a bit more as she's not a master that wants to go into the middle of the combat to deal damage. She's more of a support master that does annoying things to the enemies so as to let her crew have it a bit easier during combat.
  2. The flames are a separate piece. I left it off.
  3. Thanks. The light is a bit harsh, being a normal fluorescent office lamp. I've been considering buying some el cheapo lamps to get a more even lighting. I tend to use "natural" colours and I use various colours for highlights and shadows. For example I used P3 Ryn Flesh (probably my favorite skin colour ever) as a base for Kade's skin but I mixed some olive green and grey in it, a similar mixture was used for Candy too. Most of the browns for gremlins were shadowed with a mixture of dark green and brown. Som'er even has some purple in the mixture.
  4. Here are some pictures of the models I've been painting for the last month. I didn't have as much time and motivation to paint as I would have liked but I still managed to paint quite a lot in the end. Some more pictures can be found Here. Some of them turned out really nice, some not so good. Som'er Teeth: Gremlins: Piggy: Pandora: Kade and Candy: Teddy: Group shots: I still have plenty of unpainted models left. Next up are the Piglets and Whisperer. Then there's Rasputina waiting in a box and the rest of the Neverborn models are on their way. They will probably arrive next week...
  5. I used the same list against Perdita. Too bad my Strategy was Slaughter. Luckily my opponent got a bit too excited with his Reconnoiter and also decided to kick my ass. At the end of the game Nino, Perdita and Pandora were the only models alive. Pandora managed to pull off some amazing moves in a forest pushing 4" to always keep Nino in melee range while at the same time making Santiago cut himself to death. I think she was there for two and a half rounds and I think I killed all enemy models with her Teddy worked fine too until Santiago decided to shoot him a little and pulled of a gazillion rams. I might give it a try to leave Candy or Kade out and throw in two more Sorrows or a Sorrow and Primordial Magic.
  6. I liked them too and made mine with Grey Stuff (it probably does not matter which putty you use). I closed the slot in the base with tape, then I flattened a small blob of GS on the base. It takes a bit of practice to find the right amount of GS but start with the size of a dried pea (~6mm). Use your fingers at first so it is spread some what evenly on the base and leave a small gap on all edges. The edges should also be ever so slightly thinner than the middle. Also make sure that the layer is a little higher than the edges of the base. Now take a smooth flat solid surface like a small mirror or the base of a polished metal box. Apply a couple of drops of water on both the GS and the surface you are using. Now stick the base on your preferred flat thingy and start rubbing it down in place by rolling your fingers on the bottom of the base. You can also twist it around a little but not much. If you start to move the base around too much it will create some ugly strings of GS that will make the surface a bit rough. Now let it dry for half an hour or so. Then grab your Exacto knife and make the pentagram lines. Use the whole edge of the blade to get straight lines. It should be long enough to cover a 30mm base. Move the blade a little bit sideways to make the gap wider. Watch out not to make them too wide as this might raise the edges of the cuts. If you need round cuts and are confident enough just cut the round line and use a toothpick or sculpting tool to widen it. If you are not so confident use the edge of a 50mm base or a similar round object with a sharp edge. I also made the cracks to the GS though they could just be painted. I used a needle-like sculpting tool. When the GS is properly dry you can make the base even smoother by using a fine sandpaper (I used 1000). Lay it flat on the table, apply some water and make small circles with the base. Not too much so you don't accidentally rub of the cracks if you made any. Now wash the base with water to get the dust off, prime and paint. Pin the model on the base through a spot that has plastic on the otherside of the putty (not through the slot).
  7. I was planning to go with some combination of Nurses, Kade, Teddy, Sorrows, Hamelin, and when the models come out, Hooded Rider, Doppleganger and Waldgeist.
  8. Woops!: Unmodified damage flip of 1/2/3. No blasts there Disregard that, I suck... edit. Blaargh, I should read the errata more thoroughly...
  9. Has anyone tried Zoraida+Pandora in a brawl? If I add Hamelin to that, do I need anything else but an insane amount of Sorrows and maybe Primordial Magic in addition? Or maybe Candy too for healing and more Wp-duel spam?
  10. I know you are probably not serious but I have never seen a game that did not get an errata at some point (or a new edition of rules, reprint with corrected rules etc. etc). And if a certain game did not get an errata, most of the time it would still have needed one. The community and game designers discussing things here on the forums are probably the reason we have that huge errata already. I for one would rather take a huge errata over gentlemanly discussion in middle of a game on how a rule should be interpreted in some situation. Each of us players is such an ass when there is a possibility to find a completely game breaking combo.
  11. Maybe I should make the Teddy wear a penguin suit.
  12. I hate the original film. This seems even worse.
  13. I hope we'll get all the minis in the first book before an expansion comes out...
  14. Especially when we are all supposed to be miniature gamers who are supposed to be able to do things with paints too. Of course a correction for an ability that's completely rephrased is a bit too much of work to do but fixing stats and other numbers shouldn't be much of a chore. And even the longer texts can be fixed by printing them in the correct size and gluing over the original.
  15. There are some good melee beatsticks in Malifaux already. Still, with those you need to think before throwing them in middle of mountains of enemies. And even if you've designed him to be standing in middle of a huge group of enemies, he doesn't have to. He has other troops for support just like any other master. He can just go stand next to a troublesome model (except for McMourning) and laugh at any puny attempts at his life. That Df7 with HtW1 pretty much guarantees a negative flip on damage against most enemies, especially when he can try to get rid of the bad cards with Test of Faith. And then there's the Armor to take care of the few damage that get through.
  16. Overall it seems that games other than Warhammer are finally reaching people who have never even seen any other (better) miniature games. Probably the biggest problem for smaller companies making skirmish games is keeping the sales up for longer periods of time. Hopefully this doesn't lead to more and more powerful expansions and larger game sizes. Most likely the good ones will still stick along. What I really like about skirmish games is the small amount of miniatures needed. I just can't find the time to paint a couple of hundred minis.
  17. I managed to take my eyes off the tits. The jeans are really well painted too, as is the whole model.
  18. True, he was talking about the spines. Didn't even realise that. Constrict gives you a :rams on the flip but only against the model in your melee range and when using fangs. It doesn't help with the shooty Spines. Maybe in some future expansion then. Or the mystical FAQ/Errata that should be up soon.
  19. Just like the other triggers work, you'll get the :tomes from your CB and you flip/cheat the others.
  20. Are the old painting articles that used to be hosted on Wyrd pages around a year or two ago still available? I can't seem to find them.
  21. Dear Seamus, I'll make you squeal like a pig. Weeeeeeee! Love, So'mer
  22. Miniature games: Bloodbowl (couple of teams) Warmachine (largish Khador army I haven't used for a while) Uncharted Seas (Thaniras Elves) Helldorado (Westerners) Necromunda (A league starts soon, Delaque) Monsterpocalypse (haven't played for a while now) De Bellis Multitudinis (a semi-abstract historical game) Boardgames: Way too many to list, mainly a eurogamer (look at the BGG top lists). Space Hulk (it is a boardgame in my opinion) MTG (only casual, cheap, stupid decks) I own way too many boardgames, some I haven't played in the last two or three years. I also have an unassembled small Eldar army for 40k, some Epic:Armageddon Eldar and two small fleets for Aeronautica. Then there's also the Wii and PS3... Bloodbowl is pretty much the only game that has really stuck to me, along many boardgames. Malifaux will probably also be around for a long time unless the fellow gamers vanish. I really like the idea of using only a few models and still having a game with many many possibilities. The biggest drawback Warmachine had, was the power creep and also the game sizes slowly bloating. MkII was better, taking many models back to the Prime style and also making the 'jacks more powerful.
  23. Hi, Some how I got myself into yet another game that I will buy miniatures for and probably rarely play (hello there warmachine, necromunda, bloodbowl, helldorado, monsterpocalypse etc.). I've actually been eyeing the Wyrd miniatures for a while now and finally justified buying some along the rulebook (I bought the Gremlins, Pandora and Rasputina crews... and am also in the process of giving some meaningful looks at Lady Justice, Leveticus and Lilith). I got the rulebook yesterday. Read most of it and liked pretty much all of the rules so far. I am really looking forward to getting to play the first few games. The card mechanic just looks like it could work really well.
  24. Now stop asking questions so that they can concentrate on answering them!
  25. 1) Favorite: Color of paint (the specific paint color listed on the lable) Hard to say. There are so many good colours. Maybe P3 Thornwood green or Moldy Ochre. Maybe Vallejo Russian Green. Meaning, I prefer non-bright colours most of the time. 2) Favorite: Brand of paint Vallejo Model Color, the bottles are easy to use and the paints cover and give an amazingly smooth surface. I'm slowly making a switch to these from the P3. 3) Favorite: Sculptor None really. I rarely even look at whose sculpted something I like. 4) Favorite: Painter Not many of the painters I've seen really strike the eye with each of their models. Maybe that adso2 guy whose painted much of the Enigma Firstborn line. Whoever he might be by his real name. 5) Favorite: Mini Company (other than Wyrd, we all know it's everyones #1) Enigma, Smart Max 6) Painting Preference: Metalics vs. NMM Metallics, NMM just looks too soft and pastel in my eyes most of the time. I've seen some amazing work done with good quality metallic paints. 7) Mini Preference: Fantasy vs. Sci Fi Fantasy most of the time 8) Mini Preference: Male vs. Female I do not really care if the model is male or female as long as it looks good, as in some what realistic. Some how the female models tend to go to the direction of huge boobs in chainmail bikini. 9) Mini Preference: Human vs. Monstrous I'm leaning towards humans usually. Not that I care much as long as the sculpt catches my eye. 10) Favorite: Paint Brush you use the most Currently I use Army Painter Regiment brush for most of my real painting. I've been trying out some different brushes but have not found a real favorite yet. With Vallejo paints being more liquid I like to use brushes made of Kolinsky hair, with P3 I like to use sturdier synthetic brushes. They seem to work better for me. It might just be that I'm bad at diluting paints properly 11) Favorite: Paint Job You've Done (provide link if possible) Probably this WM Berserker. It was supposed to be a practice on rust but turned out to be a generally nice paint job. A lot of mistakes I might fix if I turn my eyes to WM again. And sorry for the shiny picture. 12) Favorite: Paint Job Ever (provide link if possible) I think this Brom, Hard Bark would be my ideal paint job. Everything seems to serve a purpose on that paint job. It almost looks like a painting, instead of a miniature. This Dire Avenger Exarch looks amazing too but it has a little bit too much of the fine details added and that makes the model inferior in my opinion. Maybe it is showing off a bit too much. 13) Desire: A mini company from which you've never painted a mini, but want to That would probably be Smart Max. I have not been able to convince myself to buy a model that would not serve any gaming purpose because I know that my painting skills are not yet up to the showcase standards I'd like. 14) Desire: A mini you most want to paint, but haven't Too many to choose one. 15) Favorite: Mini related forum (again, other than your obvious favorite; Wyrd) CMON 16) Favorite: Site you find most useful in terms of helping learn mini painting/Sculpting CMON most of the time 17) Desire: A sculpt you would love to see, but doesn't yet exist Maybe some of the missing Wyrd miniatures Or generally more miniatures that resemble realistic proportions. 18) Ambition: What would you most like to achieve in the painting hobby I'd really like to be able to do a really convincing paint job. Something that would not necessarily strike the eye as the best paint job ever at first, but also something that most people really could not find anything to complain about. Subtle shading that would just look good, some fine detail etc. Something along the lines of that Brom. There is way too much of the freehand "Look what I can do" attitude going. 19) Least Favorite: Thing you most dislike about mini painting (think eyestrain, back ache, being socially outcast, lost time, costs, etc...) Accidentally pouring a bottle of paint on my pants/shirt. Luckily, that rarely happens with the Vallejo bottles. And BASECOATING! 20) Least Favorite: Paint Brand you've tried I really despised some of the older Citadel paints. They just didn't work. In fact, I've bought one bottle of the normal Citadel range after those black screw-on caps came out. Those were drying up a lot faster than one could use them, turning into mostly useless gels. At least the old white capped bottles were okay. I still have some left that are just fine. The Foundation paints seem to be okay though. The only bottle I've bought recently from the normal range was bleached bone and those buggers had changed the color to a more greenish gray shade. 21) Least Favorite: Mini Company who's sculpts/style just don't make you want to paint them. Hasslefree or Impact! miniatures. Pretty much of the models strike the eye as something I'd like to paint.
