Haul of Eggs 4 - Sun 20th March - Daventry

Clousseau

Recommended Posts

Haul of Eggs is back for 2016 continuing its Easter theme, but at a new, larger venue. To give you all some more space, and a potential increase in the number of players, we will be moving to the new Battlefield Hobbies venue in Daventry.

Prizes will include Easter eggs, but mugs will depend on getting permission from Wyrd. I also have some Adepticon fate decks, and I'll be ordering one of the new tournament prize packs when they become available. And they'll be a War Wabbit as well.

Rulespack link is below. This will be a 3 round 50SS fixed faction event. Tickets £15 inc. a buffet lunch. Payment details in the rulespack.

Most important question: what colour will this year's scheme marker have?

I don't mind 3 or 4 rounds, probably prefer 4 if the venue opens early enough and doesn't want to kick us out too early (to keep a relaxed schedule)

It'll be green, assuming I get permission from Wyrd to produce it (and the mugs of course).

In the past you have managed to get 4 rounds in to your other events. But I do think the scene as a whole needs a mix of 3 and 4 round tournaments. So mix it up across your events for the year, and that will keep everyone as happy as possible =]

Also, I suppose I will come to your event...

I'm sure you have a reason for this I will agree with ( I'm just curious...) why do you think a mix is needed?(many/most people think 4 games means a clearer result).

I'd argue that four rounds often gives cleaner results at the event level by giving less clean results at the game level.  In other words four rushed/incomplete games rather than three complete ones.  I'm not sure that's really cleaner in totality, it's just moving the problem around.

For practical reasons there's no easy answer here. My personal preference is for complete games over more rounds. Others think differently.

So as Timmy says, mix it up.

Edit:  Plus, as always, everything Maria says above is very valid.

Yeah, 4 games gives a cleaner result of wins, but leaves some players (especially newer ones) not finishing their games. It also leaves less time for socialising, which is (and always has been), a big thing in the scene. So I think having a mix allows for tournaments where completion is important, and tournaments where socialising is important.

If it was a 2 day event, I would always push for as many games as possible (the Nationals easily got 7 rounds in for example), as you have the evening for socialising. But 1 day events should be a mixed bag.

I agree with all the points and in an ideal world I'd run 32 player, 4 round tournaments with 2 hour round times and plenty of time for socialising. However, life isn't always that easy, especially on a Sunday when an earlyish finish is necessary. Anyway, I'll make a decision after Troubleshooters has test run the venue. An early start is feasible (for me) as its reasonably local and I can set up the day before.

Don't forget that its Boarfaux the day before so make a southern weekend of it :)

Valid points all....! As I said, just curious. I just like playing games, so would have said 4, as is more. However, most of the better games I have played have been when I have had time to see the game through, and I I have had games of "man I wish we could have gotten in that last turn", so I take your point in particular James- an obvious yet maybe overlooked approach- quality of game over quantity. Malifaux is always usually fun- and is obviously the key reason we play!

ill be happy with either 3 or 4, but James' reasoning makes me maybe think 3...

I might be in for this.  In-laws live in Market Harborough which is only a short hop away and we might visit them that weekend so I have an excuse to get away for a day :D

Any decision on 3 or 4 games?  More importantly is there an approximate finish time please?

Rulespack to be made after this weekend's tournament.
